The 2024 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show was opened in South China’s Shenzhen on June 1-9. Gizmochina went there for a visit. If you want to know more about Chinese electric cars, read until the end to see all of them!

BYD

First up, let’s see what BYD has in its lineup. If you know BYD, you know they have many cars ranging from high-end ones to more price-friendly ones, also buses for commercial use. So this time, there are the Yangwang U8, U9 at one big booth, these two are truly luxurious, not just about the appearance, the power and components inside are also beastly. One thing that’s also very unique about it is that, there is a DJI drone kit made just for the U8, the drone can do everything automatically, once you set it all up on the screen in the car. The U9 as an electric supercar, has a lot of tricks in its sleeves. Some simple facts about it, there are four motors built-in, and the suspension has a special structure that allows the car to respond to potholes really quickly, almost like it can jump over them really fast. And the sensors on top of the front glass will smartly monitor the road ahead, to make sure the suspensions are ready for a quick move. So this is a supercar that is not just built for tracks, but also daily driving.

Now moving up to these more conventional sedans or SUVs. Just several days ago, many people did range tests on the new BYD Qin L-DMi, they all topped the EV range test by finishing at around 2500KM/1500Miles, with one full charge and full tank of gasoline, of course the speed was not that high, but still it’s a record. I think nobody can resist a car with such a range and low cost, isn’t it? Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to take a shoot on that one, but we did take some photos of these two, the Dolphin and Seal. These two are actually the star models overseas, they have been running on the roads in many countries already, such as Asian countries like Thailand, many EU countries, Pacific islands, and South American countries, you should definitely check them out later.

BYD also has a sub-brand called Fangchengbao, it is a brand that focuses on off-roading cars, and there is one called Fangchegnbao 5. As you can see, the appearance and build are all for outdoor driving, if you are interested, you can check out more details about it.

AITO ft. HUAWEI

The HarmonyOS from HUAWEI has been running on many car brands, AITO is the most famous one. The CEO of HUAWEI has shown his face in every AITO car release event, which really means that HUAWEI and AITO are in a very tight relationship. Several months ago, the AITO M9 was released, as a large SUV made for all types of use, it has achieved a sales record of 80k since. So what’s under the hood is the tech behind it, such as the HUAWEI ADS, HUAWEI SOUND, HUAWEI Intelligent Cabin, etc. Some other cars like the M7 and M5 are smaller cars, but basically not that different.

Anyway, unlike Apple which just abandoned the car project, HUAWEI has a more serious approach to the car business, they are quite dedicated to it, and they are moving fast. AITO is the perfect example, and more and more brands are on the way to doing so.

IM

Another brand named IM is also here. For the cars themselves, there are sedan and small SUV, such as the L6 and L7, the LS6 and LS7. The design language is quite unified, with soft lines and more vibrant colors. I think the cars will be more attractive to female users, you can also leave your opinions here.

NIO

NIO is one of the brands that started global sales early, they have gained a good reputation, and also achieved a good sales record in the EU. If you get up on the website, you will see that there are many languages to choose from, which means something. Personally, I think the cars all have really nice aesthetics, we are talking about the ET and ES series. They are all made with the signature front and back of the car, the lights. And there is one special thing about NIO, it is the only car brand that has a swapabble battery built-in, which means they can have infinite range, if there is enough battery station to support that of course, and they are making it happen right now. Funny story, the CEO has tried to have XIAOMI make cars with swappable batteries.

ZEEKR & GEELY

Now ZEEKR is a very interesting brand, it is a sub-brand of GEELY, and you may know that GEELY is the company that purchased VOLVO many years ago. As you might have guessed it, as a brand that is positioned to have an excellent driving experience, ZEEKR has the best chassis originating from VOLVO. The ZEEKR 007 as the best performer from this brand, is a real track beast, it ranked second as an EV on a famous Chinese track, just behind the ZEEKR 001. Speaking of ZEEKR 001, I have been in one, it was a speed demon, and it really scared the lunch out of me.

Although the driving experience is the highlight, and people always compare the ZEEKR 001 to the XIAOMI SU7, because they are positioned almost the same. BUT the operation system, I mean the smart features and stuff, it is not the best, but they are working on it though, we will see.

And for GEELY, it is a car company with a long history, their cars I would say are not that high-end, but reliability and affordability are still its tags, and VOLVO’s tech helped a lot, let’s just put it that way.

Li AUTO

As a car brand created by a middle-aged aged, who worked in the car media industry man, it carries that gene in the cars. The L7 8 9 are all made for a whole family, they are not made with harsh lines, and color choices are safe also. But the interior is just splendid, yes that’s the word for them, you have excellent screens and speakers, big screens, sofa-like seats, and a fridge. Funny, right? And that’s how the Chinese see them. These models are also selling globally, you can check them out later. There were a lot of car influencers driving these cars to Thailand, Alaska, and some really remote places in China, so they have been through the most serious tests, certainly very reliable and comfortable.  

The new one, MEGA, has received a lot of comments, good and bad, since its debut. It is shaped like a bullet train if you can tell, and it is also a very good choice for traveling or business use.

Hyper & AION

A few days ago, we posted a short video sharing our thoughts on Hyper recruiting former Tesla Supercharger team members, it is a really smart move and they are moving quickly. As you can see, the cars in its lineup are more flashy, and can be very attractive to many people. So if they make it to land in the USA and EU successfully, it will be about the cars and the supercharging stations.

So behind this brand, is AION as its mother company. AION is more of a brand that makes commercial use cars, we see a lot of the cars running on the road as taxis. The cars are not the best-looking ones, but they have excellent room inside, and a really good range packed.

Other Brands

It’s a pity that XIAOMI is not here this time, but I mean they have only one car so far, and the heat is still there, they don’t need to make a presence here. But Leijun did show up on the first day, joining hands with the CEO of HUAWEI, quite a harmonious picture, isn’t it?

You may also want to see some traditional car brands, right? So Volkswagen, BUICK, Mercedes-Benz, showed up with some old models, and some new EVs. And to be honest, they are far less interesting than other innovative electric cars.

And there are actually many brands that are selling cars globally, and we wouldn’t be able to show all of them here. Also with so many people around every car during the show, we can’t get in them to show you every detail, sorry about that.

GAC is gearing up for the global launch of their Haobo Hyper GT electric car on June 6th. This powerful sedan boasts features designed to impress international markets. The Haobo Hyper GT prioritizes long journeys and fast charging. Thanks to 800V high-voltage supercharging technology, it can travel up to 710 kilometers on a single charge. Incredibly, GAC claims that just 15 minutes of charging can add enough power to drive an additional 450 kilometers.

Another key feature is the car’s “mapless global communication” intelligent driving system. This suggests the ability to navigate anywhere in the world, regardless of local mapping systems. Prior testing in various countries like Italy, Thailand, and China seems to support this claim.

Performance isn’t sacrificed for efficiency. The rear-wheel drive single motor delivers a healthy 340 horsepower and 434 Nm of torque, launching the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a speedy 4.9 seconds.

Built on GAC’s AEP 3.0 platform, the Haobo Hyper GT measures 4880mm long, 1885mm wide, and 1455mm tall, with a generous 2920mm wheelbase. A previous model, the “GT 710 rear-wheel drive high-end intelligent driving 3L version,” launched earlier this year for 259,900 yuan (approximately $38,800). This model sported a comprehensive suite of sensors including a three-laser radar system, 12 cameras, 6 millimeter-wave radars, and an infrared night vision camera for exceptional environmental perception.

With its extended range, advanced navigation capabilities, and powerful performance, the Haobo Hyper GT Global Model appears to be a strong contender in the international electric vehicle market. The official launch on June 6th will likely reveal more details about pricing and availability in specific regions.

In a pivotal stride towards its foray into the automotive industry, Xiaomi has secured crucial approval from key regulatory bodies to commence the production of 100,000 vehicles annually. This green light from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) represents a noteworthy advancement for the tech giant’s ambitious venture into electric vehicle manufacturing.

While this approval signifies a significant step forward, Xiaomi’s electric cars still need the endorsement of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which rigorously assesses technical and safety aspects before granting its consent.

Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, unveiled the company’s entrance into the smart electric vehicle market in 2021. Pledging an impressive $10 billion investment over the span of ten years, Lei Jun set an ambitious target of commencing mass production of the inaugural batch of vehicles by the first half of 2024.

Amid an 18.9% year-on-year decline in first-quarter revenue, Xiaomi’s bold foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market comes as a strategic response to diversify its business beyond the smartphone sector. With smartphone demand facing a slump, the tech giant aims to leverage its extensive network of stores, planning to transform them into EV showrooms.

However, the realization of this timeline remains contingent on the progress of regulatory approvals. Comparable challenges are evident even in established companies: Tesla’s application to expand its Shanghai facility is pending approval, while the prospects for U.S. luxury electric automaker Lucid Group to commence production in China appear uncertain.

The NDRC’s cautious approach in approving new electric vehicle production plans stems from concerns about potential overcapacity and a deceleration in demand within the sector. This cautious stance has led to meticulous evaluations of each proposal to ensure a balanced market.

Xiaomi’s founder, Lei Jun, revealed that the EV venture will mark his final major entrepreneurial endeavor. In a recent Weibo post, Lei Jun shared images of Xiaomi Group executives, including partner and president Lu Weibing, displaying banners adorned with the rallying slogan, “Championing Xiaomi Cars.”

This move underscores Xiaomi’s determination to reshape its business landscape and establish a stronger foothold in the ever-evolving automotive industry. As the company confronts challenges in its traditional market, its entry into EVs showcases a resolute commitment to innovation and adaptation.

As expected, Polestar has now officially revealed its upcoming electric vehicle — Polestar 4, at the Shanghai Auto Show 2023. The car is a coupe-style SUV, making it the second SUV car from the brand.

The car is expected to go on sale in the Chinese market towards the end of this year, while its launch in the North American market could take place next year.

With the Polestar 4, the company has taken a bold decision in terms of design. The car doesn’t have a rear window, and instead, the rearview for the driver is powered through a camera. The company says that it is aiming to offer “a new kind of immersive rear occupant experience.”

It is built on Geely’s open-source Sustainable Experience Architecture and comes in dual- and single-motor versions. The driver-assist (ADAS) system will run NVIDIA‘s Drive computing platform, using 12 cameras, one radar, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. Out of all these cameras, one is dedicated to monitoring the driver’s head and eye movements to check for fatigue or incapacitation.

The long-range dual-motor version offers a maximum power output of 544hp (400 kW) and 506 lb-ft of torque while the single-motor version offers 272hp (200 kW) and 253 lb-ft of torque. Both the long-range dual- and single-motor models come with a 102 kWh battery pack. The company adds that the car can go from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.8 seconds.

It has a 15.4-inch screen up front, which acts as the infotainment system, which is powered by Android Automotive OS and Qualcomm Snapdragon Cockpit Platform. It comes with Apple CarPlay and built-in Google, along with apps like Google Assistant, Maps, and Play, among others.

There’s also a 10.2-inch driver display mounted ahead of the steering wheel that shows speed, battery, and range information. It also offers a head-up display with a 14.7-inch projection area. During snowfall, the HUD text color can automatically switch from white to yellow for better visibility.

The production of Polestar 4 is planned to begin in November this year and is expected to cost around $60,000. As noted earlier, the car will first go on sale in China later this year and then launch in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, sometime next year.

However, BYD has recently released new official pictures of the U9 with several changes, including a linear-style light strip, extended side skirts, and a large fixed rear spoiler. The new-style U9 will make its debut at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18, equipped with the Yisifang power system and boasting acceleration from zero to 100 in just 2 seconds.

The performance capabilities of electric vehicles are becoming increasingly impressive, with many electric supercars boasting acceleration times that surpass those of traditional gasoline-powered sports cars. Electric supercars also offer environmental benefits, as they produce zero emissions and have a smaller carbon footprint than their gas-powered counterparts. Additionally, as the technology improves and becomes more widely available, the cost of electric supercars is likely to decrease, making them more accessible to a broader range of consumers.

Hongqi, the Chinese luxury car brand, has released the official images for its latest fully electric concept car called the E202. The EV which will be launched under the Hongqi New Energy Brand is a medium to large SUV and will come with the luminous Hongqi New Energy LOGO. 

The concept images of the EV, show a closed layout and a brand-new logo on the front. The vehicle features concave and convex facades, with a smooth and shiny finish that gives it a futuristic look. The side windows extend directly from the A-pillar to the rear of the car, giving it a simple and crisp finish. The waistline extends from the taillight to the front door and outlines downwards, gradually changing from the sculpted lines to the smooth concave surface. 

Hongqi E202 will come with advanced features like an intelligent four-wheel drive system, air suspension, automatic driving system, HAC intelligent driving advanced safety chassis, and more.  It will feature CATL’s Qilin batteries, an 800V platform, and battery swap technology. 

Other interesting features include electronic exterior mirrors, a two-color body, a dot-matrix decorated D-pillar, and a LiDAR-equipped roof to support the autonomous driving system.

The company claims that E202 can be charged within 5 minutes for a 300km drive thanks to its 800V fast charging system. The car will be unveiled in December this year and will launch in the market in 2024.

Hongqi’s Electric Vehicle Brand

Established in 1959, Hongqi is one of the oldest Chinese passenger car brands. Originally made for high-ranking Chinese officials and leaders, the brand moved to the open market and become commercial in the 1970s. In 2018, the Hongqi brand released a new strategy and design concept, which led to a surge in market sales and the gradual realization of global exports.

Recently, the company launched its Hongqi New Energy sub-brand for Electric Vehicles. The new brand will focus not only on the Chinese market but also on global options, especially in Europe. The company is planning to launch 15 new EVs under the New Energy Brand.

Xiaomi has asked for 1 Million Yuan ($148000) from Beijing Molding Technology Co. Ltd as compensation and penalty for leaking the company’s yet-to-be-launched Electric Car design. 

On January 22, Beijing Molding Technology accidentally leaked the design of the front and rear bumpers of the yet-to-be-released MS11 Xiaomi Electric Car. The company said that the drafts were leaked by sub-vendors, and it was not directly responsible for the incident.

However, according to the confidentiality agreement signed between Beijing Molding Technology and Xiaomi Auto, the former will be held responsible for the incident. Beijing molding will have to pay a hefty fine of 1 Million Yuan to Xiaomi for breach of contract and tighten the security measures with its downstream operations. 

CEO Lei Jun said that Xiaomi had zero tolerance for leaks and hoped that all partners and suppliers would abide by the Confidentiality Agreement. The hefty fine was a lesson to all partners that Xiaomi will not accept or allow such incidents and will deal strictly with defaulters. 

Apart from the fine, Xiaomi has asked Beijing Molding Technology to also submit a detailed rectification plan that can upgrade and improve the existing security measures. 

Chinese social media went berserk last week when the images of Xiaomi’s upcoming EV were leaked. The leaks showed a sleek and sophisticated image of a sporty Sedan that was named MS11. 

The EV has been spotted multiple times in China with CEO Lei Jun behind the wheel test-driving the car. However, all test drives were done under wraps with utmost secrecy. 

In March 2021, Xiaomi announced that it will join the EV sector and planned to invest $10 billion over the next 10 years. In August 2021, it acquired the autonomous driving company Deepmotions for $77 million. 

Last year CEO Lei Jun said that autonomous driving was the future of EVs and Xiaomi is planning to develop its own self-driving technology. The company expanded its R&D team in 2022 and is all set to mass-produce its cars in 2024.

At the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show, electric vehicles startup Fisker has showcased the production version of its first EV — Fisker Ocean SUV. In terms of design, it seems quite similar to the first prototype that the company had unveiled at CES 2020.

It has been revealed that the Ocean SUVs will be manufactured using sustainable materials and the whole interior is made from recycled items. As mentioned by the company earlier, it also has a solar roof, which will be able to capture enough energy from the sun to power up to 1,500 miles of driving per year.

There’s a massive 17.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display that is positioned vertically  by default but with just a touch of a button, the screen will rotate horizontally and enter what the company calls “Hollywood Mode.”

The Fisker Ocean SUV, which the company has described as dynamic and driver-centric, will come in three trims that span a broad range of price and range. The Sport edition will be the most affordable among the three, starting at $37,499. It will have 275 horsepower driven through the front wheels and stands as the entry to the Ocean lineup and will be offering 250 miles of range.

The second model is Ultra, which starts at $50,000 and comes with 540 horsepower, and offers 340 miles of range. The top-end model in the lineup is Extreme, it offers 550 horsepower and 350 miles of range. The cars are expected to be available for purchase by customers late next year.

Fisker says that all three versions of the Ocean SUV will be able to charge other electric cars or an owner’s home, which is a part of its larger mission of promoting clean energy.

Electronic manufacturer Foxconn has been making effort to enter the emerging EV market. The company recently announced the acquisition of the Ohio factory of embattled US EV startup Lordstown Motors in a deal worth $230 million. Apparently, the Taiwanese company is in the advanced stage of its car manufacturing journey. It has now emerged that the brand’s first electric vehicle will be unveiled in a few days’ time — precisely on October 18.

The Original Device Manufacturer (ODM) had a few days back released a couple of teasers giving us a silhouette view of the EV. The front view of the new car has the name “FOXTRON” inscribed, suggesting that will be the name of the car brand. The company is said to be planning to unveil not just one EV but three electric cars.

According to the teaser images, the car is a sedan incorporating sports car elements into the body shape in the style of a four-door coupe. According to visual inspection, the size is expected to be equivalent to that of electric vehicles such as the Weilai ET7. In detail, the new car adopts through-type light strips at the front and rear, which is very technological. In addition, the vehicle will also support remote updates and different levels of automatic driving assistance functions.

In terms of performance, FOXTRON will launch battery packs with capacities of 93Wh, 100Wh, and 116kWh. The output power of the front motor of the model built is 95kW, 150kW and 200kW, and the output power of the rear motor is 150kW, 200kW, 240kW and 340kW.

Peugeot has an impressive track record of some pretty iconic cars that were matched with durability and endurance. The French carmaker has revealed its newest hybrid hypercar that packs some innovative designs. The company will debut the new hypercar at the Le Mans 24 hours race and the World Endurance Championships in 2022.

The new hypercar packs some power and beauty into its design. It is a beauty to behold and seems to be a speed racer capable of endurance races. However, it looks Peugeot is revamping its aerodynamics design with a wicked wing glass and lacking in the traditional rear wing commons in prototype racing models. The rear wing serves the vital purpose of providing aerodynamic balance and downforce, making the car highly competitive and fast.

Peugeot will join several traditional automakers like Toyota in the Le Mans Hypercar races as the field continues to swell with carmakers of different hues. Ferrari is also primed to join the 2023 Le Mans, as it continues work on its first prototype-class racing car in more than 50 years.

The Peugeot 9X8 hypercar has a 680 HP V6 engine, a 2000KW electric motor powered by a 900V battery developed by the French automaker in collaboration with Saft, another French company. It is yet unclear how Peugeot will balance the massive combined power available for the hypercar to fit championship regulations of a maximum of 680HP. Possibly Peugeot would have conceptualized a mechanism for the hypercar’s powertrain to dynamically balance the power output of the two power sources to meet race requirements.

The Le Mans Hypercar class series affords flexibility in the rules that encourage innovation, like Peugeot’s wingless design. Indeed the greater flexibility allowed by the sport’s new technical rules relating to aerodynamics, according to Peugeot Sport, has permitted radical new thinking that is driving the emergence and development of innovative cars. There are still some details not yet revealed about Peugeot’s concept car, especially what its top speed would be. We await Le Man’s 2022 and the World Endurance Championships series to see the Peugeot 9X8 in action.

An electric car from Xpeng caught fire in China, earlier this week. It was the G3 model, which was parked at a charging station in the Tianhe District, Guangzhou, where it spontaneously combusted into flames.

According to a Zaobao report, the Xpeng G3 model caught fire at a charging station on 14th April 2021. The reports state that the fire was intense with a lot of white smoke being emitted. This incident also arrives on the same day the Chinese electric vehicle maker released its third new model, the Xiaopeng P5. Furthermore, the company even confirmed that the report was true and that it will be forming a team to investigate the accident and find out the cause of the fire.

Notably, the owner of the vehicle is safe and there was no harm to any other individual either. Looking at the statistics, the recent events marks the seventh accident of the company’s car since 2019. Out of this figure, two of them are related to fires as well. Unfortunately, finer details regarding the matter and the Xpeng’s investigation is still unknown at the moment. China-based Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), which is a global leader in lithium-ion battery development and manufacturing, has announced that it has partnered with Huawei and Changan Automobile to create a new high-end smart car brand.

The new brand aims at creating a world-class high-end self-controlled smart electric vehicle platform and launch a range of smart cars, along with a super “human car” as a part of smart life and smart energy ecology.

It is said that the companies formed the partnership about a couple of months ago and will be launching new products as a part of this long-term strategic cooperation agreement. It also aims to jointly promote the development of China’s new electric vehicle industry.

Along with that, they have also announced a new technology named “Ark Architecture” and has said that around 105 models will be launched in the coming five years, which would include 23 new electric products.

Ark Architecture developed by Changan Automobile Research & Development 4.0 is quite important for the company to improve the basic performance of the smart vehicle using artificial intelligence and Big Data.

It covers all A0-C models and is said to be compatible with eight engine states, displacement covers 1.2-2.0L, compatible with 48V low voltage mixing (LV-HEV), high-voltage mixing (HV-HEV), plug-in mixing (PHEV), three electrification power, matching eight transmission models, and 16 power combination modes.

The Baojun E300 electric car is all set to be unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show on 26th September. The car, which will have support for Xiaomi‘s ecosystem, is built by Chinese carmaker Baojun along with Suning.

The E300 series electric car includes six months and the company claims that it is the world’s first smart electric vehicle that comes integrated with the Xiaomi ecosystem and XiaoAI smart voice assistant.

The car will come with support for features like remote car control, humanized interactive experience, car home interconnection, and several other functions. The company is focused on offering a full ecological link of travel with a strategy of “people + car + home.”

The E300 car has 39 horsepower and body shape of fewer than 3 meters, which is very similar to the Hongguang MINI EV aka Chinese version of K-Car. It is equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, a 30kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, and an NEDC battery life of 305 kilometers.

It also has a model that integrates the Huawei 5G ecosystem and is touted to be the industry’s first smart car to implement voice-controlled ADAS systems. The pricing for this Baojun E300 Electric car ranges from 65,800 yuan (~$9,721) to 85,800 yuan ($12,676), depending on the model.

Chinese tech titan, Huawei has been claimed to be working on electric cars similar to what the American automotive company, Tesla makes. However, in a recent interview with CNMO, Huawei’s rotating chairman, Xu Zhijun confirmed that the company will not be getting into the business of building automobiles. Instead, Huawei will channelise its resource to develop new technologies which will help existing car manufacturers to build smart cars.

It was also revealed that the company did plan to build an electric car until as recent as October 2018. But the company observed that the market is already laden with capable automotive makers across the globe that could build refined products with the technological solutions that Huawei currently offers or the ones that are currently under development.

In the month of May this year, Huawei had showcased a smart car solution which stands atop five main aspects which are as follows:

• An intelligent network that will help smart cars to connect to the cloud, which can help them locate nearby vehicles, pedestrians or any obstacles on the road.
• A refined driving experience.
• A sophisticated cockpit i.e the layout of an automobile’s interior.
• Credible provider of electrical solutions including components such as motors and EESD (Electrical Energy Storage Devices)/ Batteries.
• Provide a series of cloud services to help car companies to come up with new innovation and pay for travel services.

All the elements laid out above will essentially allow any car manufacturer to develop and build highly advanced automobiles via Huawei’s off the shelf intellectual property and technologies.

The senior Huawei official also said that the company will utilise its 5G expertise to develop mm-wave and laser radar using optoelectronic technology to solve the cost and performance problems faced by existing solution providers. This technology will ultimately help in building true driverless vehicles, similar to what Tesla is currently aiming for.

It is clear that Huawei does not want to enter a market, which as previously mentioned, is already crowded and could only reward marginalised profits. Instead, it is carving a completely new industry which also falls in line with its existing role that is of a B2B supplier.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2018) will commence on January 9 and run through to January 12 but there are usually several activities few days before the commencement. One of such active companies is Chinese electric car startup Byton which unveiled its Concept car at the sidelines of CES 2018.

The Byton concept car is the company’s vision for the automobile industry and this is a concept that may soon hit our doorsteps as the company promises to deliver an “intuitive and intelligent” car to global markets starting next year from around $45,000. The car has a dynamic design that was manufactured for aerodynamic efficiency. The Concept car is powered by electric and it comes with a “digital” lounge featuring a very attractive panoramic user interface which acts as a hub for navigation, entertainment and even has the capability to monitor the health of occupants of the car.

The touchscreen panel in front of the dashboard is intuitive and offers convenience for the driver. There is also voice control with Amazon Alexa integrated which acts as an alternative method of communication. In addition, there is face recognition which ensures the car adapts to the driver’s profile and stored settings. The car is also integrated with flat antennas on the roof bringing onboard the greatest bandwidth possible and this would be 5G compatible in order to allow the heightened connectivity the company promise. Byton is also taking steps to ensure the connected gadgets on the car won’t make it susceptible to hacking by introducing a smart gateway which will protect it. A second safety feature is the Tire pressure monitoring ability which notifies the driver when the tire pressure is low and also when the battery is low.

Talking of the battery, the car comes in two models and one of them packs a 71kWh battery which produces up to 272bhp and a range of 250 miles. The second model features a 95kWh battery which produces 476bhp and has a range of 325miles on a single charge.

The company is led by former executives from Tesla, BMW, Apple, and Google, and it hinted that it expects to launch in China by 2019 and in the United States and Europe by 2020.

Xiaomi today released a teaser on Weibo that seems to tease the launch of an unknown, unnamed new product which is billed to go official on December 12, another popular sales day in China. We  do not know exactly what the product is, but the teased poster contained what looks like a car’s tire tracks as well as other clues.

Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun had last year categorically stated that the company has no plans for an electric car in the next five years. In addition, the official Weibo post hinted that the product isn’t likely an electric car. But then, all the clues on the poster point to an electric car / bike. This isn’t the first time talks of a Mi electric car is coming out, Xiaomi had been rumored to be working on an electric car named  Mistla since 2014.

The poster contained likely features of the electric car such as E-ABS (electronic anti-lock braking system), cruise control, perforated brake discs, integrated die-casting motor and so on. All these are features of a car, not necessarily an electric car, though. So, it’s likely an electric bike. However, we’ll wait to see what it turns out to be. December 12 is the launch date.

LeEco is making sure its entrance into the United States is grand and is seeing to that with the unveiling of series of innovative products at a go. The latest product unveiled is the eco-friendly LeSEE Pro autonomous(self-driving) electric car which joins the Le Pro 3, Le S3 smartphones as well as the 85-inch uMax85 4K TV which were also unveiled at the event held San Francisco yesterday.

The LeSEE concept car was first unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show last April but LeEco says the LeSEE Pro is more intelligent and more connected than the original concept car. Make no mistake, the LeSEE Pro isn’t a concept car even though it looks like one. However, LeEco didn’t reveal the cost of the car, production plan and other important details, saving those details for later perhaps.

The electric car comes as a self-driving car and one that can make use of a driver at the same time. The steering wheel is capable of retracting into the dashboard when it is in autonomous or self-driving mode, thus creating room for the driver to relax and enjoy LeEco’s streaming entertainment contents. LeEco says the LeSEE is not only a car but is an ecosystem for mobile connectivity.

The car also features an exterior  light display that shifts between five different colors to signal what drive mode its in. According to LeEco, depending on the color the car will inform drivers and pedestrians when the vehicle is driving autonomously, sees a hazard, is charging, or is car-share ready.

The car is said to have arrived the exhibition ground right from London where it is being used for the filming of “Transformer 5” and according to news from China LeSEE Pro mass production will likely commence soon. LeEco is reported to have partnered with the government of Zhejiang province in China to establish an assembly plant worth nearly $ 20 billion.

LeEco also revealed another interesting information during the event that the Faraday Future electric car project that it is bankrolling would unveil its first car at CES next year and as is the case with the LeSEE Pro, the car would be production ready and not just a concept.
