<p>For those unaware, the EMEA region includes Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. According to an <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prEUR147835521" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>IDC</em> </a>report, the EMEA smartphone market recorded a growth of 20.9 percent year on year in Q1 2021. During this time, the region brought in 31.676 billion US Dollars in smartphone sales, which marked a sizeable growth of 29 percent over the first quarter of last year. In Europe alone, the region saw an increase of almost 33 percent year on year.</p>
<p>The South Korean tech giant led the EMEA smartphone market followed by Xiaomi in the second spot. Samsung accounted for 32.8 percent market share during the first quarter, which marked a 34.7 percent growth year on year with shipments reaching 30.6 million units. On the other hand, the Chinese smartphone maker held a 15.4 percent market share, with shipments reaching 14.4 million units. Notably, Xiaomi even saw a jump in rankings, coming second in 2021, up from the fourth spot from a year prior by beating both <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/transsion-holdings/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Transsion</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a>.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-392790 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile.png?x23692" alt="Samsung" width="877" height="472" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile.png 877w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile-300x161.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile-768x413.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile-696x375.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/getfile-780x420.png 780w" sizes="(max-width: 877px) 100vw, 877px" /></p>
<p>Furthermore, the growth in EMEA arrives despite the region facing new lockdowns over the resurgence of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/coronavirus/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Coronavirus</a> pandemic. Amid this, Samsung recorded a strong first quarter performance, accounting for nearly two fifths of all European smartphone shipments in this period. This also marked its largest quarterly market share in the last six years.</p>
