Huawei and its Honor brands have been updating its smartphones regularly. The company promised to bring the new EROFS file management system on all EMUI 9.1 based smartphones this year and today, 8 new models, including the ones from the Huawei Mate 9 series and P10 series are getting this new update.

The 8 models in question are the Huawei Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, Mate 9 Porsche Design, Huawei P10, P10 Plus, Nova 2S, Honor 9, and Honor V9. All these models will get the new EMUI 9.1 update which brings two major features: EROFS file management system and GPU Turbo 3.0.

To recall, EROFS is a new file management system developed by Huawei that brings improved compression to boost performance and speed. The new file system also manages to save disk space, proving to be a significant upgrade to previous technologies such as the EXT4 file system.

As for GPU Turbo 3.0, the new update adds support for more games in China, adding 51 new titles for Android, taking the total supported gaming titles to 60! Huawei’s GPU Turbo reduces power consumption by 10%, improves the average frame rate during gameplay and lowers power consumption. It’s definitely a handy feature for Android gamers.

The EMUI 9.1 update is already rolling out to the said devices in China.

Huawei’s 2018 flagship, the Mate 20 Pro is still a hot-selling model and an awesome device in all aspect. The company has been consistent in pushing update to the phone and that isn’t expected to stop soon. The Mate 20 Pro started receiving the much-touted  EMUI 9.1 update at the end of June. DC dimming wasn’t one of the features the new update brought but right now, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has started getting another update that brings this feature. DC dimming is gaining widespread popularity with each passing month especially among the Chinese smartphone makers. Most of them have already pushed updates or included DC dimming on their models  sporting an OLED screens. The Huawei P30 Pro had earlier gotten its update ushering DC dimming earlier in June. The Mate 30 Pro update delivers the firmware version EMUI 9.1.0.135 and is currently on the China ROM. When it starts rolling out globally, you can enable it on your Mate 20 Pro by going to Settings > Display > Eye comfort > Enable Flicker reduction.

DC dimming essentially controls the brightness of the display by varying the power supplied to the circuit. There are two methods to control the screen’s brightness — Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Dimming and DC Dimming. In PWM, the width of the light pulse is varied to control the brightness of the display panel while in DC dimming, the power supplied to the circuit is varied to control the brightness. Just a week after launching in India, the Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) is receiving a new update that brings EMUI 9.1.

EMUI 9.1 boasts features like GPU Turbo 3.0 and the new EROFS file system which allows apps to load faster. The EROFS file system replaces the F2FS file system and it brings a 20% increase in random read speed and even leaves you with more space on your device.

GPU Turbo 3.0 brings support for 25 of the most popular games. It also reduces the power consumption of the processor by 10%.

EMUI 9.1 also brings Huawei Phone Clone which allows you to easily copy your files from your old phone to your new Huawei phone in moments. There are also new wallpapers and app icons, so your phone should also loom different.

The update is rolling out in India already which is a bit surprising since the phone is just going on sale today (offline sales is August 10). So if you are one of those who already picked up this phone, you should get the update after initial setup or over the next couple of days.

The update should also begin to arrive on the phone in other markets like Nigeria. So if you are outside India, you may want to check for the update too.

The Huawei Y9 Prime (2019) is one of the few Huawei phones with a pop-up selfie camera. It has a 6.59-inch FHD+ display that covers nearly the entire front and is devoid of a notch or a punch hole. There is a Kirin 710F processor under the hood that is paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

The Y9 Prime (2019) has a 16MP pop-up selfie camera and triple rear cameras which has another 16MP camera paired with an 8MP ultrawide angle camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. It also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, Dual SIM support, an audio jack, and a 4000mAh battery that charges via USB-C.

The Huawei P10 Plus was released in February 2017. It is now over two years old but it is not yet done receiving updates. Huawei has released EMUI 9.1 for the 2017 flagship and one of the new features it brings should increase system speed.

EMUI 9.1 is built on Android Pie, so the Huawei P10 Plus is getting its second major OS update as it launched with Android Nougat back in 2017. The update arrives as EMUI 9.1.0.252 and is rolling out in Asia already. Below are some of the new features listed in the changelog:

• Add the EROFS system function which improves app speed and fluidity.

Incoming call video

• Customizes incoming call videos for your contacts.

GPU Turbo 3.0

• Huawei’s GPU Turbo 3.0 acceleration technology supports dozens of more games, allowing you to to enjoy an improved gaming experience.

The update should arrive in the next few days or weeks depending on the region. If you don’t get the OTA, you can go to Software Update under System Settings and select Check for Updates. Huawei‘s EMUI 9.1 update has been out for months now, though not every device has seen the update. Huawei’s now come out with a new list of devices that will be receiving the update later on the 25th of August. Among the list, we’ve got the Huawei Nova 4, the Huawei Nova 3i, Huawei Maimang 7 (Honor 20 Lite), Huawei Enjoy 9 Plus and the Honor 8X.

EMUI 9.1’s big draw is that has Huawei’s new EROFS super file system. This can allegedly increase the read speed by an average of 20%. On top of that Huawei also has GPU Turbo 3.0 on board. This update is currently available for the Chinese variants of these devices, though we’re sure it’s fully possible to install them on global units as well.

If you’re device isn’t on the list, then it’s highly possible you’ve already received the update. You should be looking forward to EMUI 10 instead, which will based on Android Q. EMUI 10 is the true successor to EMUI 9, whereas EMUI 9.1 is mainly just an update for EMUI 9 that’s still based on Android Pie. We expect to see a list of devices getting EMUI 10 at HDC 2019.

EMUI 10 will feature a new design philosophy, or at least an updated version of the current design direction. We’ll also allegedly see a lot of improvements when it comes to the camera interface in terms of features, speed and features when it inevitably launches later at HDC 2019. Huawei has today released yet another batch of models that would get the EMUI 9.1 Public Beta update. This is the third batch of models that are getting the models and this batch is comprised of 8 models. The earlier two batches were made up of a total of 19 models. Thus, with this new entrants, the total number of Huawei/Honor models that have got the new update is now 27. Recall that Hauwei had promised to push the EMUI 9.1 update to a total of 49 models.

Chinese telecom giant Huawei has shared a new teaser image on social media networks in India, hinting about the arrival of its latest custom user interface EMUI 9.1. Recently, Huawei said that its smartphones will be getting the new Android Q update in the near future and also shared a list of at least 17 smartphones eligible for the upcoming major Android update.

Huawei recently announced the EMUI 9.1 upgrade which would usher in a number of new features for the Mate 20 series. The Chinese tech giant has now released a list of 49 models that would receive EMUI 9.1 upgrade in no distant time.

The models are categorized based on the release plan the company has for the models. The Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X and Mate 20 Porsche Design edition are listed as models that support the public beta. Recall that Huawei has already rolled out the upgrade to the Mate 20 series.

The second category consists of models billed to participate in internal testing exercise (closed beta). The Mate 10 series, the Mate 9 series, the P20 series and the P10 series models. Huawei recently announced that the Mate 20 series would be getting EMUI 9.1 beta update. The update will hit selected users of the Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X, and Mate 20 RS Porsche design. The update will also hit other models as time goes on.

Huawei is known for innovations and the new EMUI 9.1 is stuffed with several new features worthy of note. Among them, the most striking is Huawei’s new self-developed system performance innovation tool – EROFS (Super File System) and Ark compiler.

The Ark Compiler brings support for architecture level optimizations resulting in significant performance improvements. It will make the Android system more responsive and robust against different actions. Yu reveals that the new compiler can improve system fluency by 24%, system response by 44% and enhance operations of third-party apps by 60%. It will further strengthen multitasking by optimizing several processes and resulting in better speed and performance. Improved battery performance, faster execution speeds and compatibility across all new Android devices term Ark as the best alternative for ART (Android Runtime).

Huawei won’t hold any usage rights for Ark Compiler, which means it will be open source for the industry. Huawei expects app developers to soon start using the new refined compiler for Android.

Currently, Android is using the inbuilt ART virtual machine to compile the application code into machine code. The virtual machine dynamically loads and execute the machine code on the Android system. It is 2x faster than the Dalvik VM which was found in the earlier Android builds.

On its part, EROFS (Extendable Read-Only File System) that is also being introduced on EMUI 9.1 is aimed at replacing the EXT4 file format of the system partition (equivalent to the computer’s C drive) with Huawei’s newly developed read-only file system. The new system increases the average read performance by 20% on average. The application startup speed is faster, especially in the heavy load scenario. Another advantage of of the EROFS is that it brings additional space savings on the system ROM by 2GB. Furthermore, since EROFS is a read-only design, the system partition cannot be rewritten by third parties bringing additional security to the Android system.

EMUI 9.1 also comes with an upgrade to the new GPU Turbo graphics acceleration technology. The feature adds support for 51 domestic games in addition to the already supported 60 domestic games, bringing a low-power full-frame gaming experience.

Furthermore, EMUI 9.1 brings improvements to Huawei’s voice assistant as well as smart dual 4G SIM card switching, automatically switching SIM cards based on the one with the best internet coverage. The new EROFS file system increases the reading speeds by up to 20% than the EXT4 file system. Moreover, the new GPU Turbo 3.0 accelerates the graphics processing by ensuring lower power consumption with a higher frame rate.

To successfully install the new update ensure the device has 6GB free space on its internal storage and is running on EMUI 9.0.1.

Last year, Huawei introduced GPU Turbo technology, a software-based feature which energizes gaming performance on several Huawei and Honor smartphones. It offers a smoother gaming experience and improved battery performance while gaming.

Since its launch in June last year, the feature has been updated a couple of times for performance improvements and the inclusion of more titles. And now, the company has announced the third iteration of the GPU Turbo mode with support for 19 Android games.

The third generation of GPU Turbo comes as part of Huawei’s latest firmware version i.e. EMUI 9.1 which is based on Android 9 Pie operating system and was released with the company’s latest flagship smartphones — Huawei P30 and P30 Pro.

The company claims that GPU Turbo 3.0 cuts down on SoC power consumption by 10 percent and optimizes “the underlying system performance to provide a continuous gaming experience.” Currently, the GPU Turbo 3.0 is exclusively available on the P30 and P30 Pro smartphones, it will be rolling out to other Huawei as well as Honor smartphones with the EMUI 9.1 update soon.

Along with system optimization, it also comes with a number of Android game titles which can utilize GPU Turbo. The list of supports games have now been increased from 6 to 25, which includes Fortnite, Knives Out, Battle Bay, Crazy Taxi, Real Racing 3, Into the Dead 2, NBA 2K19, Dragon Nest M, Duel Links, PES2019, DRAGON BALL LEGENDS, FIFA Mobile, Free Fire, Minecraft, Helix, Plants vs. Zombie Heroes, Subway Surfers, Brawl Stars, Speed Drifters.

One of the interesting thing about the GPU Turbo from Huawei is that the company has not limited it to just flagship smartphones and is also pushing it to budget devices such as Honor 7X and Honor 9 Lite for a better gaming experience.

The latest version of EMUI is version 9.0.1 which began rolling out to some devices and shipping with others right out of the box. However, the Huawei P30 series will be coming with a new version called EMUI 9.1.

The info was revealed by the official EMUI Weibo account today along with a teaser poster.

It has become a sort of tradition for Huawei to release a new version of its OS when it launches a new flagship phone. EMUI 9.1 is expected to bring lots of new features but will still be based on Android 9 Pie. We have no info yet but we bet a lot will have to do with AI and new ways to interact with your environment using your phone. The good news is some of the features will be available to older models while some may not due to hardware differences.

The Huawei P30 series will be unveiled in Paris tomorrow. Over the past few weeks, there have been tons of leaks and info about the phones which include the P30 Lite, the P30, and the P30 Pro. One of the most anticipated features of the new series is the 10x optical zoom which lets you take clear and detailed images after zooming in.
