In an exciting development, especially for European Samsung users, the company has launched its highly anticipated Self-Repair program in nine European countries. Following a successful debut in Korea, this expansion enables Galaxy customers in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the UK to take care of their device repair on their own terms.

Multiple components of devices such as Galaxy S20, S21 and S22 Series can be self-replaced

By offering repair kits and authentic Samsung parts, the Self-Repair program allows users to maintain a healthy lifespan of their devices through proper maintenance. Galaxy owners can now enjoy an optimized experience on their devices for longer periods of time. The program covers the popular Galaxy S20, S21, and S22 series, as well as the Galaxy Book Pro and Galaxy Book Pro 360. Samsung’s commitment to enhancing user experience and device longevity is evident in their statement. TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung Electronics, stated, “We are dedicated to scaling access to our Self-Repair program worldwide while simultaneously improving our products’ repairability.”

Originally introduced in the United States in 2022, the Self-Repair program’s expansion into Europe involves strategic deals with prominent smartphone parts distributors in the region. Major partners include ASWO, a leading Germany-based after-sales service and electronics specialist for Europe, and 2Service, a Dutch electronics parts supplier and Samsung authorized distributor.

Galaxy users in Europe can now replace essential components themselves, such as phone screens, back glass, and charging ports for the Galaxy S20, S21, and S22 series. Additionally, Galaxy Book Pro series owners gain access to seven genuine parts, including the case front, case rear, display, battery, touchpad, power key with fingerprint reader, and rubber feet. Customers will receive the necessary repair tools and retain them for future use, ensuring a convenient and hassle-free experience whenever repairs are needed.

Samsung’s future plans for the Self-Repair program involve expanding the range of supported devices, providing additional repair tools and manuals, and exploring new markets. By doing so, Samsung aims to empower Galaxy customers with a wider array of options to repair their technology and reduce their environmental impact.

For more information on Samsung’s Self-Repair program, Samsung.com offers a detailed set of resources and guidance on maintaining and repairing their Galaxy devices. With this innovative initiative, the South Korean tech giant continues to redefine the face of consumer electronics.

This is said to be the the lowest first quarter shipments for nearly a decade. Ongoing component shortages and COVID-19 related lockdowns in China are the main culprits here. Samsung remained as the region’s top OEM, with its highest market share since Q3 2020.

A report by Counterpoint research says that European smartphone shipments reached 49 million units in the first quarter of 2022, marking a 12% percent year-on-year (YoY) decline. This is the lowest first quarter total since Q1 2013.

Several factors such as component shortages, COVID-19 related lockdowns in China, deteriorating economic conditions and the ongoing of the Russo-Ukraine war are responsible for the decline. The report says Europe will witness more such drops in future due to the “Deteriorating macro and geopolitical environment”.

Samsung remained the largest contributor to smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2022 with shipment share of 35 percent, the report states. Apple took the second spot with a shipment share of 25 percent. The Cupertino company saw a year-on-year decline of 6 percent.

Xiaomi ended up in the third spot in terms of smartphone shipments in Europe. The company recorded a 36 percent annual decline with a 19 percent market share.

Oppo and Realme captured the fourth and fifth spots in the European smartphone shipments market with 6 percent and 4 percent shipment share, respectively. Realme became the only OEM to register annual shipment growth in Q1 2022.

“Existing issues such as COVID-19 and component shortages have been exacerbated by new economic and geopolitical challenges,” said Counterpoint Research’s Associate Director, Jan Stryjak. “Rising inflation levels across the region are impacting consumer spending, while Samsung and Apple, Russia’s first and third ranked smartphone vendors, halted all shipments into Europe’s largest market in early March 2022,” Stryjak added.
