<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> recently released the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a55/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy A55</a> smartphone with the Exynos 1480 processor. However, the company didn’t reveal many details about the processor during the launch. However, Samsung has now revealed a full picture of what this chip is capable of.</p>

<h2><strong>Samsung Exynos 1480 Specifications</strong></h2>

<p>The Exynos 1480 boasts a hybrid CPU configuration featuring four powerful Arm Cortex-A78 cores clocked at 2.75 GHz for demanding tasks, alongside four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.0 GHz for better power efficiency.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The star of the show, however, is the Xclipse 530 GPU based on AMD&#8217;s RDNA architecture. It improves graphics performance by 53% compared to the previous generation says Samsung.&nbsp;</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-1024x683.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Exynos 1480 Launch Specs" class="wp-image-614326" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Samsung-Exynos-1480-Launch-Specs.jpg 1080w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Jumping on the AI bandwagon, the Exynos 1480 features a built-in AI Engine with a 6K MAC NPU. While seemingly a less powerful version than the flagship Exynos 2400&#8217;s AI engine, it makes the Galaxy A55 capable of supporting AI-powered features found in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s24/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy S24</a> series. However, it depends on whether Samsung will roll out the relevant <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/one-ui-6-1/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">One UI 6.1</a> update to the device.</p>

<p>Wireless connectivity is well-covered with the Exynos 1480, supporting Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, sub-6 GHz 5G, mmWave 5G, and cat.18 LTE for fast, versatile connections.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Moreover, the chip can handle displays up to FHD+ at a smooth 144 Hz refresh rate and packs the necessary power to handle a single 200MP sensor (64MP at 30 FPS, 32MP + 32MP at 30 FPS).</p>

<p>The chip can even encode and decode 4K 60 FPS H.264 videos with ease. Memory and storage support extends to LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage for snappy performance.</p>

<p>Built on a 4nm manufacturing process, likely Samsung&#8217;s own 4LPP+, the Exynos 1480 looks to offer improved power efficiency over previous-generation chips.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table is-style-stripes"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Specification</strong></td><td><strong>Details</strong></td></tr><tr><td><strong>CPU</strong></td><td>&#8211; 4x Arm Cortex-A78 cores @ 2.75 GHz<br>&#8211; 4x Arm Cortex-A55 cores @ 2.0 GHz</td></tr><tr><td><strong>GPU</strong></td><td>AMD RDNA-based Xclipse 530 GPU</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Manufacturing Process</strong></td><td>4nm (Samsung 4LPP+)</td></tr><tr><td><strong>AI Engine</strong></td><td>6K MAC NPU</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Display Support</strong></td><td>Up to FHD+ (1080p) @ 144Hz</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Camera Support</strong></td><td>&#8211; Up to 200MP single camera mode<br>&#8211; Up to 64 MP @ 30 FPS single-camera<br>&#8211; Up to 32 MP + 32 MP @ 20FPS dual-camera</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Video</strong></td><td>4K @ 60 FPS H.264 encode/decode</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Memory / Storage</strong></td><td>LPDDR5 RAM / UFS 3.1 storage</td></tr><tr><td><strong>Connectivity</strong></td><td>Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 6E, sub-6 GHz 5G, mmWave 5G, cat.18 LTE</td></tr></tbody></table><figcaption><em>Samsung Exynos 1480 Specifications</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>The Galaxy A55 is the only device to feature this chip for the moment. But Samsung may bring new devices powered by the Exynos 1480 in the coming days.&nbsp;</p>

<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung </a>is not giving up on Exynos chips; in fact, it is coming back stronger next year with new Exynos processors. Recently, the company made the Exynos 2400 SoC official, featuring an RDNA 3 GPU. This chip is intended to power the Galaxy S24 series and is expected to compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Samsung might also be planning to refresh its mid-range lineup, as a new Exynos 1480 chip has appeared on Geekbench. Here are the details.</p>

<h2>Exynos 1480 performs better than Exynos 1380, of course</h2>

<p>Exynos 1480 has appeared on Geekbench with model number S5E8845. The listing reveals the chipset will get an octa-core architecture with four efficiency cores clocked at 2.05GHz and the rest four performance cores at 2.75GHz. Exynos 1480 will have a base frequency of 2.05GHz and will be paired with Samsung’s Xclipse 530 GPU, possibly designed on AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture similar.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="637" height="838" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Exynos-1480-Geekbench.webp?x10805" alt="Exynos-1480-Geekbench" class="wp-image-576422" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Exynos-1480-Geekbench.webp 637w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Exynos-1480-Geekbench-228x300.webp 228w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Exynos-1480-Geekbench-319x420.webp 319w" sizes="(max-width: 637px) 100vw, 637px" /></figure></div>

<p>Geekbench reveals the Exynos 1480 has achieved 882 points in the single-core test and 2808 points in the multi-core test. These scores may not be very impressive, especially considering that the chipset will power the Galaxy A55, a premium mid-range smartphone. However, when compared to the Exynos 1380, the performance is not too bad. For reference, the Galaxy A54 with the Exynos 1380 scored 776 points in Geekbench 5&#8217;s single-core test and 2599 points in the multi-core test.</p>

<p>The Geekbench listing confirms a recent <em>Galaxy Club </em>report that the Galaxy A55 with Exynos 1480 is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/09/24/galaxy-a55-tested-exynos-1480-chipset/">already being tested</a>. The phone is expected to debut in the first quarter of next year, just like the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-a54">Galaxy A54</a>. Apart from the chipset, you may not see many upgrades to the phone.</p>
