Samsung has officially unveiled its latest mid-range mobile processor, the Exynos 1580.

CPU and GPU

Built on Samsung’s third-generation 4nm EUV FinFET process, the Exynos 1580 introduces a new CPU architecture. It uses a tri-cluster design with one high-performance Cortex-A720 core clocked at 2.9 GHz and three additional Cortex-A720 cores running at 2.6 GHz.

Rounding out the CPU are four energy-efficient Cortex-A520 cores clocked at 1.95 GHz. The switch to ARMv9 cores brings better efficiency and performance compared to the ARMv8 architecture in the Exynos 1480.

The Exynos 1580’s graphics processing unit (GPU) also gets an upgrade. Based on AMD’s RDNA 3 architecture, it features double the Work Group Processors (WGUs) of the Exynos 1480, delivering a 37% boost in peak performance and a 20% improvement at the same power level. The GPU has also increased the GL2 cache to improve graphics performance further.

NPU

The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) in the Exynos 1580 offers 14.7 TOPS of performance. Though Samsung hasn’t revealed major differences in architecture from the Exynos 1480’s NPU, both use “6K MAC” units, suggesting similar core performance. However, the Exynos 1580’s larger 2MB NPU cache improves AI processing efficiency for demanding applications.

Connectivity and Display

For connectivity, the Exynos 1580 includes support for 5G (both sub-6GHz and mmWave), Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.4. Notably, the chip lacks an AV1 decoder, a feature more common in higher-end processors.

Display and camera support remain similar. The chip supports displays with up to 1080p+ resolution at 144Hz and cameras with up to 200MP for single sensors or dual 32MP sensors at 30fps.

While a 200MP camera on the Galaxy A56 is unlikely, Samsung claims the Exynos 1580 offers improved image processing capabilities compared to its predecessor.

Samsung was already actively testing the Galaxy A56. Almost 2 weeks after this leak, the smartphone was spotted in the latest Geekbench database. Earlier leaks rumored that the Galaxy A56 would come with an Exynos 1580 SoC. We can confirm this with the Geekbench result that appeared today. The Exynos 1580 with the internal codename Santa is now shown running on a smartphone. However, this does not indicate that the device will be launched early.

Galaxy A56 will come with Exynos 1580 SoC

In fact, Samsung was working on the Galaxy A56 when it started working on the new Exynos 1580 SoC. Because this processor was the chip to be used in the next Galaxy A56. The Geekbench database revealed that the Galaxy A56 runs on the Exynos 1580 SoC. The Exynos 1580 performs similarly to the Snapdragon 888. This is another indication that the new 2025 mid-segment models will perform similarly to the 2021 flagships.

Exynos 1580 was spotted in July with model number S5E8855. The smartphone scores 1341 in single-core and 3836 in multi-core. 3 years ago, Snapdragon 888 came up with a similar geekbench result. The Galaxy A56 has the model number SM-A566B. The letter B at the end of the model number indicates that it is a device exclusive to the Global market. Samsung is also developing another Galaxy A series smartphone. We will share information about it in the coming days.

Apart from these, there is no different information about the Galaxy A56. The new members of the Galaxy A series are expected to be introduced in Q1 of 2025, i.e. March 2025. We will inform you when there is a new development.
