In a recent briefing, Samsung executive Park Yong-in (President and Head of the System LSI Business) confirmed that development of the Exynos 2700 is “proceeding without setbacks.” He made it clear they want to use it in their top-tier smartphones. While he didn’t name specific models, most people expect it to power the Galaxy S27 series, which should arrive in early 2027.

This is one of the strongest official hints we’ve gotten about the Exynos 2700 so far. It’s expected to go up against Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (or whatever the next high-end chip is), and Samsung will probably stick with its usual dual-chip strategy: using Exynos in some regions and Snapdragon in others.

On the technical side, there are some promising improvements. Unlike the previous generation, the Exynos 2700 is expected to use a side-by-side (SBS) layout where the processor and DRAM sit together on the same substrate. A special Heat Path Block (basically a better heat sink) will cover both, which should bring better thermal management, up to 30-40% higher memory bandwidth, improved efficiency, and more consistent performance when the phone is working hard.

Samsung has had some past struggles with Exynos chips in flagships, things like manufacturing yields and overheating, which is why they weren’t used everywhere. The new chip, built on an enhanced 2nm process, is aiming to finally close the gap with Qualcomm, especially in single-core speed, while potentially doing even better in multi-core and sustained tasks.

Challenges like high manufacturing costs and Qualcomm’s strong ecosystem still exist. As the Galaxy S27 lineup comes together, how well the Exynos 2700 performs will be a major factor in Samsung’s ability to deliver great flagships that are also profitable.

Samsung looks like it’s leaning more seriously into its own chips for 2027. New reports suggest the company plans to increase the use of Exynos processors in the Galaxy S27 series, mainly to reduce how much it depends on Qualcomm. The reason is pretty straightforward, Snapdragon chips are getting expensive. For the Galaxy S25 lineup, Samsung went all-in on Qualcomm’s flagship chip, which ended up costing the company around 3 trillion won.

If Samsung continues down this path, things don’t really get easier. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, expected to power the Galaxy S27 Ultra, is said to move to TSMC’s more expensive 2nm process. That would likely push costs even higher. At that point, Samsung either absorbs the hit, passes it on to buyers, or leans more on its own chips to keep manufacturing costs in check.

So the shift toward Exynos isn’t exactly surprising. That said, real-life performance tests paint a mixed picture of the Exynos 2600. It performs well in some areas, but still trails Snapdragon in power efficiency, thermals, and battery life.

As for the Galaxy S27 series, Samsung is said to be aiming for roughly a 50% split between Snapdragon and Exynos. That’s a noticeable jump, and it suggests the company is more confident this time around.

Of course, this isn’t without some risk. Exynos hasn’t always had the best reputation, especially when compared to Snapdragon in real-world use. That said, recent versions have improved, and Samsung clearly has a strong incentive to keep pushing in that direction.

In a way, this feels like a long-term correction. Relying too heavily on Qualcomm turned out to be expensive, and now Samsung is trying to rebalance things.

How well this works will depend on the power efficiency and stability of the Exynos 2700. If it can hold up in everyday performance, not just benchmarks, Samsung might finally get closer to that balance it’s been aiming for.

Samsung just rolled out the Exynos 2600 in late 2025, shipping it in Galaxy S26 devices starting in February. As usual, the rumor mill has now moved to what’s next, and Samsung seems ahead in this journey.

The Exynos 2700 has already surfaced in Geekbench listings months before its expected debut alongside the Galaxy S27 series.

Exynos 2700 on Geekbench way before launch

The listing reveals a chip carrying the model number S5E9975. On paper, it features a 10-core CPU, but not in the configuration we’re used to seeing. Instead of the standard three-cluster design of Exynos 2600, Samsung seems to be experimenting with a four-cluster layout for the Exynos 2700.

That breakdown includes a single core clocked at 2.30GHz, four cores at 2.40GHz, another single core at 2.78GHz, and four more cores pushing up to 2.88GHz.

These aren’t peak clock speeds, of course, but the early numbers are still respectable. The chip scores 2,603 in single-core and 10,350 in multi-core on Geekbench 6. Interestingly, the multi-core result closely matches what the current Exynos 2600 can deliver, even without reaching 3GHz clock speeds.

On the graphics side, the chip is paired with what’s listed as an Xclipse 970 GPU. Early GPU benchmarking results show an OpenCL score of 15,618.

The test device itself is equipped with around 12GB of RAM and a newer version of Android. That’s fairly typical for early benchmark sightings.

As you might expect, early benchmark leaks rarely tell the full story. These chips are often tested before final optimizations are in place, and performance can change significantly by the time they are ready for actual devices.

Samsung is expected to begin mass production of its Exynos 2700 processor in the second half of 2026, according to a report from The Korea Economic Daily citing Kiwoom Securities. Analyst Park Yoo-ak stated that the chip will be manufactured using Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2nm GAA process (SF2P), with initial yields reaching approximately 50%.

The Exynos 2700 could mark a significant shift in Samsung’s mobile strategy. The chip is projected to power around 50% of the upcoming Galaxy S27 series smartphones. This would be a sharp increase compared to the Exynos 2600, which currently powers about 25% of the Galaxy S26 lineup. The Galaxy S26 Ultra exclusively uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip across all markets.

Park Yoo-ak noted that yield improvements and growing customer demand for cost-effective solutions are expected to help the Exynos 2700 gain more traction. Samsung has reportedly asked its partners to promote the SF2P process, which indicates confidence in the chip’s production readiness.

Samsung completed the base design of the Exynos 2700 in 2025. Benchmark leaks suggest a 10-core CPU layout using a unique 4+1+4+1 cluster configuration and a new AMD-based Xclipse 970 GPU. The early test results showed lower clock speeds and performance figures, but the chip appears to be in its engineering phase.

Kiwoom Securities expects Samsung’s non-memory division to post a 21% year-over-year revenue increase to 36.4 trillion won ($24.8 billion) next year. The firm also forecasts an operating profit of 1.8 trillion won ($1.22 billion) for the division.

Samsung aims to cut reliance on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips and turn its mobile processor business profitable by expanding Exynos deployment in future flagship phones.

Just a month after the launch of Samsung‘s latest flagship processor, the Exynos 2600, it looks like the brand has already started testing its successor. This upcoming processor, dubbed the “Exynos 2700” has appeared in an early Geekbench listing, showing a big change from the current Exynos 2600.

The new chip uses a four-cluster CPU design with 10 cores total. It has one core at 2.30GHz, four cores at 2.40GHz, one core at 2.78GHz, and four cores at 2.88GHz. This is different from the Exynos 2600’s three-cluster setup, which has one core at 3.8GHz, three cores at 3.26GHz, and six cores at 2.76GHz.

Tipster Abhishek Yadav identified the chip as the Exynos 2700. The test device ran Android 16 with 12GB of RAM and featured the new Xclipse 970 GPU. This GPU replaces the Xclipse 960 from the Exynos 2600. The Xclipse 970 looks weaker on paper. The listing shows four compute units, a 555MHz maximum frequency, and 1GB of device memory. The Xclipse 960 has eight compute units, a 980MHz peak frequency, and 4GB of device memory. The OpenCL score dropped to 15,618, compared to roughly 25,791 on Exynos 2600 devices.

This result likely comes from an Engineering Reference Device board. These boards are used for early internal testing and run at lower clock speeds with unfinished software. Final retail performance should be higher. Samsung launched the Exynos 2600 in December 2024 with the Galaxy S26 series in select markets. The Exynos 2700 is expected to power future flagship models, though Samsung hasn’t confirmed which devices. The switch to a 10-core, four-cluster design shows Samsung is still testing new processor layouts before launch.

Earlier reports called the Exynos 2700 a key 2027 flagship chip, codenamed Ulysses, likely for the Galaxy S27 series. Previous leaks said it would be built on Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2nm SF2P process, using Gate-All-Around architecture to improve performance and power efficiency. Rumors also mentioned next-generation ARM C2 CPU cores, advanced thermal packaging, a new AMD-based Xclipse GPU, LPDDR6 memory, and UFS 5.0 storage.

Exynos 2700 Specs (Rumored)

According to recent leaks from tipster Kaulenda, the Exynos 2700 will be built on Samsung Foundry’s second-generation 2nm process, known as SF2P.

This cutting-edge node utilizes a refined Gate-All-Around (GAA) architecture, which is projected to deliver a 12% performance boost and a massive 25% reduction in power consumption compared to the upcoming SF2-based Exynos 2600. The transition to SF2P could allow the chip’s prime CPU core to reach a stable clock speed of 4.2 GHz.

Architecturally, the Exynos 2700 is rumored to adopt ARM’s next-generation C2 cores, likely labeled as C2-Ultra and C2-Pro. This shift could result in a 35% gain in instructions per clock (IPC), pushing Geekbench 6 scores to an impressive 4,800 in single-core and 15,000 in multi-core tests.

To tackle heat, Samsung is reportedly introducing FOWLP-SbS (Side-by-Side) packaging. Unlike traditional vertical stacking, this layout places the die and DRAM horizontally under a unified copper-based Heat Path Block. This design increases the contact area for the heatsink, significantly improving thermal dissipation during heavy workloads.

The graphics side will also see a transformation. Pairing a next-gen AMD-based Xclipse GPU with LPDDR6 memory (supporting up to 14.4 Gbps) and UFS 5.0 storage, the chipset could see data transfer speeds nearly double.

This synergy is expected to yield a 40% jump in graphics performance, positioning the Exynos 2700 as a formidable rival to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a potential ticket for Samsung to regain its silicon independence.
