The new renders have revealed the Midnight Black, Emerald Green and Prism White editions of the Galaxy S10 duo.

Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ Color Variants

The Midnight Black edition of the Galaxy S10 and S10+ has no color gradient and has a simple appeal. The Emerald Green has an aqua-like that is brighter on the top and appears darker towards the bottom. The Prism White has a mix of blue and purple hues with white undertone. Apart from these colors, the S10 and S10+ phones may come in a Blue variant, but it may not be released immediately.

Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ Design

The Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ are equipped with curved AMOLED Infinity-O panels on the front. The upper and lower bezels on both phones have been significantly reduced. The launch event will be held in San Francisco, U.S. The South Korean company is working on a strategy to regain popularity in China. It has recently launched Galaxy A9s, Galaxy A8s and Galaxy A6s in the past few months. It appears that the company is now preparing itself to launch the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+ phones in China since these phones have 3C certification in China.

Before a smartphone goes official in China, it is required to receive approval from many certification bodies and one of them is China Compulsory Certificate (CCC). The China variant’s S10 and S10 Plus phones with respective model numbers SM-G9730 and SM-G9750 have been spotted on the database of 3C which indicates that these phones will go official in China in the near future.

Last year, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus were made official on Feb. 25. These devices were official announced in China on March 6. Since the Galaxy S10 series are launching five days earlier then the S9 models, there is a possibility that China may receive the new flagship phones at the beginning of March.

The box package of the Galaxy S10 duo will include EP-TA200 charger which supports 9V/1.67A and 5V/2A charging rates. It is the very same charger that comes bundled with other flagship phones from Samsung such as Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+

The Galaxy S10 is rumored to feature a 6.1-inch punch-hole Infinity-O AMOLED display. It will be packed with a 3,100mAh battery. The S10+ may house a larger screen of 6.4 inches and it may feature 3,500mAh battery.

Both phones are expected to come equipped with common features such as Exynos 9820 / Snapdragon 855 chipset variants, in-display fingerprint scanner and triple rear cameras. The S10 will have a single camera on its front while the S10 Plus will be featuring dual front-facing shooters.

An entry-level version of the Galaxy S10 dubbed as Galaxy S10 E is also expected to debut alongside S10 and S10 Plus phones on Feb. 20. The S10 E phone hasn’t appeared on 3C which suggests that the country may not receive it.

Rumors have it that the South Korean company will be unveil the Galaxy S10 series on Feb. 20. Today, the Galaxy S10 Lite smartphone has appeared on Geekbench to confirm it key specs.

As it can be seen in the below image, a Samsung phone with model number SM-G970U has appeared on Geekbench. Recent reports have revealed that the model number belongs to the S10 Lite which is the lowest configuration model in the Galaxy S10 series.

The Galaxy S10 Lite is fueled by “msmnile” processor. Leaks from last year have revealed that the 7nm Snapdragon 855 is codenamed as “msmnile.” The SoC of the Galaxy S10 Lite is assisted by 6 GB of RAM. The handset is loaded with Android 9 Pie OS.

In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the smartphone has respectively scored 1986 and 6266. These benchmarking scores are lower than what the Snapdragon 855 and 6 GB RAM powered Xiaomi Cepheus scored on Geekbench. The Cepheus believed to be the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 9 phone.

The new chipset from Samsung is manufactured using 8nm LPP FinFET process, which the company says consumes 10 percent less power compared to the 10nm process. For comparison, Huawei‘s Kirin 980 and Apple‘s A12 Bionic chipsets are manufactured using the 7nm process.

Samsung Exynos 9820 has a tri-cluster architecture with the fourth generation custom designed CPU cores. It consists of two custom cores for processing power, two Cortex A75 large cores for optimal performance, and four Cortex A55 small cores for greater efficiency.

As per the company, compared to the Exynos 9810, the multi-core performance increased by 15 percent and single-core performance increased by 20 percent. The overall performance of this new chipset is 40 percent better than its predecessor, claims Samsung.

The chipset comes with the Mali-G76 MP12 graphics processor, which has more execution units and double channels. It is claimed to offer 40 percent better performance than the GPU in Exynos 9810 and is also said to be 35 percent more energy efficient. For comparison, the Kirin 980 chipset features Mali-G76 MP10 GPU.

For the first time, the Exynos 9-series chipset from Samsung comes with Neural Processing Unit (NPU) which is said to offer seven times artificial intelligence-based computing power compared to its predecessor.

Coming to the photography, the Exynos 9820 chipset has advanced ISP that supports up to five sensing elements, including infrared sensors for enabling facial recognition. For the front-facing camera, it supports camera sensor of up to 22MP and the same 22MP for the rear camera. It also supports dual-camera setup with a maximum of a 16MP camera sensor. For video recording, the chipset supports 8K 30fps and 4K 120fps and also supports 10bit HEVC/H.264/VP9 codec.

For the display, the chipset supports 4K resolution. The U.S.-based chip maker has confirmed that it has already provided samples of the upcoming 7nm chipset to its OEM partners.

Since the smartphone OEMs have received samples of the upcoming 7nm Qualcomm chipset, they can now test and build news phones powered by the new SoC. As mentioned above, Qualcomm is expected to announce the new chipset by December. Hence, phones are powered by it are expected to go official by early 2019.

The smaller sized chipset that is based on 7nm architecture will deliver better performance and consume less power than Snapdragon 845. However, as of this writing, the exact specifications of the new chipset are not known. However, what is known about it is that it will be pair with Snapdragon X50 5G modem which means powered by the successor of Snapdragon 845 will be able to support 5G connectivity. According to Qualcomm, it is the first 5G-capable mobile platform for premium tier smartphones.

The South Korean giant is expected to use the Samsung Exynos 9820 octa-core chipset to power the Galaxy S10, but there isn’t much known about this new processor. However, the latest information coming from Ice Universe suggets that the company might follow MediaTek’s footsteps.

According to the latest report, Samsung could be opting for a three-cluster CPU core arrangement which will feature four lightweight Cortex-A55 cores, two Cortex-A75 or A76 cores for medium tasks, and two fourth-generation custom Mongoose CPU cores for heavyweight tasks.

Thus, the processor will still have eight-cores but instead of the usual four heavy cores and four light cores aggangement, the company will be opting for 2+2+4 arrangement. This arranagement is similar to MediaTek Helio X-series chipsets which has its ten cores arranged in cluster of lightweight/medium/heavy cores.

According to MediaTek, such cluster arrangement of cores could help in improving the battery performance on the smartphone. While it’s unclear whether MediaTek’s approach is indeed better than solutions from Qualcomm and Samsung, it looks like an interesting take.

However, there are few concerns, including whether Samsung has access to Arm’s DynamIQ tech, which makes these flexible CPU core arrangements possible. Arm’s DynamIQ technology allows silicon manufacturers to mix and match Arm’s own CPU cores but it doesn’t apply to Samsung’s own cores on paper.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is reported to come with a display capable of emitting sound. The South Korean firm had showcased its sound-emitting display concept at the Society of Information Displays (SID) 2018 where instead of an earpiece, the vibration and bone conduction of the display panel carries the sound.

Further, it is also speculated that the Galaxy S10 could also be Samsung’s first phone to come with 3D facial recognition similar to iPhone X and Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
A new info has surfaced regarding the SoC’s GPU. According to IceUniverse, the Exynos 9820 will come with a Mali-G76 MP18 GPU. This is ARM’s latest GPU that was announced back in May.

The Mali-G76 will be ARM’s first 7nm GPU and it brings a 30% increase in performance, 30% better energy efficiency, and 2.7x improvement in machine learning. The GPU can have between 4 to 20 cores but Samsung is going with 18 cores just like it did with the Exynos 9810’s Mali-G72 GPU.

Samsung’s decision to use ARM’s GPU is borne from the fact that its own in-house GPU which is in development won’t yet be available for its flagship device(s).

The first generation models of its (Samsung) GPU will first be used in its low-range devices. The second-generation models will be used in its high-end phones, self-driving cars, and machine learning. So, we don’t expect to see Samsung use it in its flagships until 2020 at the earliest.

Rumors have it that the SoC will be equipped with Samsung’s Mongoose 4 CPU. Popular leakster Ice Universe has today revealed the performance of the Mongoose 4 processor that will be present inside the Exynos 9820 would be more powerful than recently unveiled Cortex A76 by ARM.

The Cortex A76 can deliver a maximum processing speed of 3.30 GHz. However, according to the Chinese leakster, the Mongoose 4 will be far beyond A76 and also it will deliver better energy efficiency.

The upcoming 2018 iPhones will be powered by Apple A12. It is a 7nm chipset designed by the Cupertino company and mass produced by TSMC. The unannounced SoC was spotted last month on Geekbench benchmarking platform with an outstanding multi-core score of 13,000. If the performance of the Mongoose 4 is supposed to be far better than A76, it is likely that the Exynos 9820 chip may end up clocking close to the benchmarking scores of Apple A12. By the way, initial reports of A12 have revealed that it consumes 23 percent more energy than its predecessor. This issue will be fixed before the official unveiling of the new iPhones in September this year.

At the moment, it can only be found in the international variants of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. However, a new finding has revealed that the Korean manufacturer has already begun work on a successor, the Exynos 9820.

The finding comes from an employee’s bio where it is listed under the accomplishment that he/she is working on the Exynos 9820. So not only do we know that the new chip is already under development but we also know its name.

The bio also reveals the individual is involved in the development of a 5G RF chip. While he/she started work on the RF chip back in May, 2017, work began on the Exynos 9820 in January, 2018.

There are no details of the Exynos 9820 available but it will likely be Samsung’s first 7nm chip. It probably will not be officially announced until next year before it appears in the Galaxy S10 or whatever Samsung decides to call its next flagship.

RELATED: Samsung Building New 7nm Foundry, Announces Partnership With Qualcomm for 7nm 5G Chips

Qualcomm is another manufacturer already working on a 7nm 5G chip and mobile processor. Its 5G modem is the Snapdragon X50 and will appear alongside the Snapdragon 855 in mobile phones in 2019.
