Garmin Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro, Tactix 7 AMOLED, and more watches now support ECG

Garmin is rolling out support for ECG for a number of its smartwatch models. The company announced the Marq Carbon Collection of premium smartwatches a couple of days ago and has now released Garmin’s electrocardiogram (ECG) app for its existing wearable models.

Garmin ECG app launched for Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro, and more

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the brand’s electrocardiogram application, which brings support for the feature on Garmin smartwatches that were recently announced. The FDA approval now expands the app’s usage to the Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro, Venu 3, and even the Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition. So now, it is possible to record heart rhythms with these smartwatches to check for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib).

This feature doesn’t require any add on. In an official announcement, Garmin added that the software records 30 second ECGs. Notably, the ECG app will be offered to Epix 2 Pro, Fenix 7 Pro, Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition, and Venu 3 series of watches that are paired to smartphones that have Garmin’s latest software. Users can view this on any of the smartwatches listed above or from the Garmin Connect smartphone app.

However, it is worth noting that the feature is only being rolled out in certain regions at the moment. As of right now, the smart wearable maker has released this support in Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the US. Furthermore, Garmin has made the ECG app for users who are at least 22 years old. In other words, the ECG feature support isn’t rolling out globally.

The Epix 2 Pro, also known as the Epix Pro (Gen 2), presents a range of options with its three different sizes, catering to various wrist sizes and style preferences. Two new metrics, Endurance Score and Hill Score, have been introduced. Endurance Score evaluates the impact of training on overall endurance levels, while Hill Score assesses uphill running capability based on VO2 max levels and training history.

In terms of battery life, the Epix 2 Pro series offers extended usage times depending on the model. The 42mm edition provides an impressive battery life of up to 10 days, while the 51mm variant boasts an astonishing 31 days of usage on a single charge.

However, it sets itself apart with a more power-efficient MIP display that ensures excellent visibility even in bright sunlight.

One notable addition to the watch is the built-in LED flashlight, offering different intensities, along with a red safety light and strobe mode. The Fēnix 7 Pro Series includes sensors for tracking activities such as hiking, running, swimming, and more.
