Oppo has officially kicked off the ColorOS 16 open beta program that brings the latest Android 16 OS. This update is arriving in select regions in Asia to owners of the Oppo Find X8 Pro and the Reno 14. So here’s everything you need to know.

ColorOS 16 Open Beta Arrives for Oppo Find X8 Pro & Reno 14

The Chinese tech giant confirmed on a recent community post that the ColorOS 16 Open Beta is live now. This update is available only to users in India, Malaysia, and Indonesia. For those interested, the application period for the open beta is already live, with the last date set for 13th October 2025. So you have a couple of days if you wish to try out the Android 16 OS based ColorOS 16 custom skin.

It is worth noting that the major software upgrade is seeing a limited release. Only the Oppo Find X8 Pro and Reno 14 are eligible for the open beta. The flagship model is receiving the CPH2659_15.0.0.860 build, while the mid range model is getting the CPH2737_15.0.2.602 or CPH2737_15.0.2.502 build version. If you are planning on applying for the ColorOS 16 open beta, here are a few quick and easy steps.

On your Find X8 Pro and Reno 14, hit Settings > About device > Tap the top of the page > Click the top-right button > Select Beta Program > Fill in your information > Tap on Apply Now. After you’ve finished this process, you’ll have to be patient for the application to be approved, and once that is done, head to About device in Settings again and click on Download Now to install the update. Oppo is set to unveil the ColorOS 16 in China on 15th October 2025, so stick around for more.

Oppo’s latest flagship lineup, the Find X8 series, has reportedly added an impressive new feature that’s sure to grab attention—“Powered Off Finding.” As the name suggests, this innovative functionality allows users to locate their phone even if it’s turned off.

Introduced with the Pixel 8 series by Google, this feature is now expanding to other flagships. Back in November last year, the feature was discovered in OnePlus’ Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 custom skin. Now it’s rolling out to Oppo’s Find X8 and Find X8 Pro. The Oppo Find X8 and X8 Pro, which were launched in India last November featuring MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 chipset, are reportedly the first Oppo phones to adopt Google’s new Find My Device Network feature.

The Power Menu on the Find X8 series now displays a message stating, “You can locate this phone with ‘Find My Device’ even when powered off.” Similarly, the ‘Find My Device’ section in the settings adds, “Find My Device can also use the network to help locate this device when it’s powered off or out of battery.” This ensures that users have an extra layer of security to locate their lost or stolen phones, even under challenging circumstances.

How does the feature work?

Powered Off Finding feature tackles one of the biggest limitations in Android—a phone’s inability to broadcast its location when turned off or dead. Here’s how it works:

The feature lets the phone store pre-computed Bluetooth beacons. This is how the phone continues to transmit encrypted location data even when its turned off. The data is then processed via the Find My Device Network and relayed to the device’s owner.

For this to function, the phone reportedly relies on a reserve battery system that powers essential components like Bluetooth and ultra-wideband chips, even after the main battery is depleted.

We just put up our Unboxing and Hands on video of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro. This smartphone is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone. But how does it compare to some other premium phones from China, which recently had their global debut? Here’s a quick comparison of the Mate 70 Pro with the Oppo Find X8 Pro and Vivo X200 Pro.

Design & Display

All three models are flagship grade smartphone models, which offer a premium feel. The form factor and screen are subjective, so it’s harder to find an objectively better phone here. The Mate 70 Pro, Find X8 Pro, and X200 Pro feature an aluminum frame and glass body. The smartphones support an IP68 and IP69 rating for water and dust resistance. These devices have a large circular camera module on the rear.

Although there’s a slight difference in screen size. None of these are compact flagship phones, but the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 4500 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, the Mate 70 Pro packs a taller 6.9-inch LTPO OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, and 2500 nits of peak brightness. So while the other two are brighter, one has a slightly taller display panel.

Specifications

Both the Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro are premium smartphones with cutting edge specs. The duo are equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 SoC. These make it one of the fastest Android phones. However, the Mate 70 Pro is powered by a Kirin 9020 chipset. This processor isn’t bringing a major upgrade in performance. So the Mate 70 Pro still trails behind in this regard.

With the release of the HarmonyOS Next, Huawei is finally moving away from Android. A massive 6,000mAh battery pack powers the X200 Pro, while the Find X8 Pro has a 5,910mAh cell. Once again, the Mate 70 Pro lags behind with the smallest but still respectable 5,500mAh battery pack. But Huawei leads the pack with a 100W wired and 80W wireless fast charging. Oppo’s Find X8 Pro supports 80W wired and 50W wireless while Vivo X200 Pro offers 90W wired and 30W wireless fast charging.

Camera

Photography is one area where Huawei is renowned. But in recent years, many Chinese brands have started catching up. The Vivo X200 Pro and Oppo Find X8 Pro placed an emphasis on camera performance, with the former’s Zeiss APO Telephoto lens offering impressive zoom photography on a smartphone. For the main sensor, the Sony LYT808 on the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro should offer similar levels of performance. But without a doubt, these are two flagship level camera phones.

Huawei isn’t bringing similar levels of ground breaking camera tech upgrades on the Mate 70 Pro. But it seems to be refining the overall experience. Its telephoto lens isn’t as versatile as its competitors, but the 50MP main sensor with a variable aperture gives it an edge in still shots in varying lighting scenarios.

Pricing

Last but not least, we have the pricing of these three phones. Huawei’s Mate 70 Pro is the most expensive out of the lot with a 6,499 Yuan (roughly 892 US Dollars) starting price. However, the Find X8 Pro and X200 Pro have an identical starting price of 5,299 Yuan (roughly 727 US Dollars).

So depending on your preference, your choice between the three might differ. If you want a true flagship experience with a display, camera, and more, the Mate 70 Pro could be for you in China. Although, the X200 Pro and Find X8 Pro are more affordable but still offer impressive performance, bigger batteries, better zoom, and much more.

On the front, the X8 Pro feature a display with 2,160Hz PWM dimming technology, while the standard model supports 3840Hz PWM dimming from Tianma, both of which minimizes flicker even at low brightness levels. In other words, this helps reduce eye strain that can help lower headaches as well.

The Chinese brand brings this technology to offer a more comfortable viewing experience to sensitive users like children and pregnant women. It also pairs this with two other technologies, namely Adaptive color temperature and TÜV Rheinland Eye Comfort 4.0 certification. The former basically adjusts the screen’s color to match the ambient lighting to prevent harsh contrasts and reduce eye fatigue.

On the other hand, the TÜV Rheinland certification basically means that the device went through strict standards of testing for blue light reduction and flicker minimization. Apple has made impressive improvements in the overall design of the iPhone 16. The base model is a compact flagship with a slim 7.8mm body that weighs just 170 grams. Performance

While Android phones were behind iPhones in raw performance, the gap has more or less been bridged with the recent Dimensity 9400. This high end chipset from MediaTek easily matches Apple’s A18 Bionic and even surpasses it in some scenarios. So there is a noticeable upgrade in performance and battery efficiency in the Android rival.

This is further bolstered by the sizeable 5,910mAh battery pack, which supports 80W wired fast charging, 50W wireless fast charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging. Apple lags behind in not just the battery capacity, but also in terms of fast charging support, as we discussed recently. While the exact charging speed of the iPhone 16 is unclear, it is expected to be around 25W for wired and 15W for wireless. Meaning, Oppo simply outclasses Apple’s flagship here.

Cameras

This is another department where Oppo has a better overall package. Comparing the quality of images from the main cameras would need a dedicated article of its own, but the Oppo Find X8 Pro has a more versatile setup. It features four 50MP sensors for the main, ultra wide angle, and two periscope telephoto shooters. Apple only offers a 48MP main and 12MP ultra wide angle lens.

In other words, you can’t take lossless zoomed shots on the iPhone 16, while the Find X8 Pro offers 3x and 6x optical zoom. It even supports 120x digital zoom and a bunch of AI powered features like AI Eraser, AI Super resolution, AI De-Blur and more.

Pricing & Verdict

One of the biggest advantages of the Oppo Find X8 Pro was that it launched for just 5,299 Yuan in the Chinese market. This amounts to around 744 US Dollars, making it over 50 Dollars cheaper than the Apple iPhone 16, which costs 799 US Dollars. But Apple’s flagship is more accessible across the globe and Oppo is only just rolling out the Find X8 series outside of China.

To make matters worse, the Find X8 Pro comes with a steep price hike in India. It is listed for 99,999 INR, which is about 1,184 US Dollars. This is a massive difference in price since it now loses its biggest advantage as well. Apple launched the iPhone 16 in India for 79,999 INR, which is 947 US Dollars.

So it might seem like the better deal to many now as Chinese flagships while surpassing Apple’s, aren’t as accessible as they used to be. So depending on your use, budget, and preference, the iPhone 16 might be the better option. But if you like a bigger screen, telephoto shooters, and can pay the premium, the Find X8 Pro is a better feature set.

The Find X8 boasts a thin profile at 7.85mm and a lightweight build of just 193 grams.  Meanwhile, the Find X8 Pro offers a larger display at 6.78 inches compared to the Find X8‘s 6.59-inch panel. Both displays feature ultra-narrow, symmetrical bezels measuring 1.45mm.

Each model in the Find X8 series includes a 50MP sensor for every lens. The standard Find X8 has three lenses (main, ultrawide, and telephoto), while the Pro model adds a second telephoto lens, totaling four.

Battery sizes also vary between the models. The Find X8 holds a 5,630mAh silicon-carbon battery, while the Find X8 Pro features a larger 5,910mAh cell, supporting longer usage between charges.

Color options include Star Grey and Space Black for the Find X8, while the Find X8 Pro comes in Space Black and a unique Pearl White with a shimmering finish. Additionally, the Find X8 Pro has a new Quick Button feature for faster access to camera functions like instant photo capture and zoom.

Oppo announced the Find X8 and X8 Pro smartphones in China yesterday and confirmed they’ll launch them globally soon.

The report claims that there are two storage configurations for the base Find X8, while the higher end Find X8 Pro variant will launch in a single storage option. For the vanilla variant, buyers can reportedly choose between either a 12GB + 256GB version or a 16GB + 512GB model. Meanwhile, the Oppo Find X8 Pro may launch in a long 16GB + 512GB option.

Beyond the processor, the listing confirms other high-end specs for the Find X8 Pro. It’ll pack a hefty 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM for smooth multitasking and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage for all your files and games. The phone will also run the latest Android 15 operating system and feature a smooth 120Hz display.

These details align with previous leaks, including a Geekbench listing for the Find X8 Pro that revealed similar specs. Additionally, a certification on China’s 3C website suggests the phone will support 80W fast charging, further solidifying its flagship status.

Oppo‘s upcoming Find X8 Pro Satellite Edition appeared on Geekbench last week with a somewhat weaker performance of the Dimensity 9400 chip against its rival.

Now, the regular Find X8 Pro has also surfaced on the same benchmark and the results are even more disappointing this time. The smartphone scored 2,818 in single-core and 8,847 in multi-core tests on Geekbench.

These scores are lower than Find X8 Pro’s previous sighting where it scored 3010 in single-core and 8686 in multi-core tests. And the gap widens even more when you compare it to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4.

The 8 Gen 4-powered Galaxy S25 Ultra reached 3,069 and 9,080 points in the same tests. The OnePlus 13 went even further, reaching 10,049 points in the multi-core test.

The difference in benchmark score is likely due to the lower clock speed of the Dimensity 9400’s CPU. The benchmark shows a CPU with a base clock speed of 2.40 GHz and a maximum frequency of 3.63 GHz. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4-powered devices tested on Geekbench show speeds of at least 4.2 GHz for its most powerful core.

Geekbench also shows that the Oppo Find X8 Pro packs 16 GB of RAM and runs Android 15. The rest of the device’s key specifications are currently unknown.

The Oppo Find X8 lineup is expected to include three models — vanilla, Pro, and Ultra. The first two have already passed multiple certifications, including IMDA, EEC, and SGS Fimko.

Find X8 series may include three models

Publication MyDrivers, which cites reliable leaker Digital Chat Station as its source, claimed that the Find X8 series will include three models: the standard version, the Pro version, and the Ultra version. In other words, the lineup may comprise the Find X8, the Find X8 Pro, and the Find X8 Ultra.

In 2022, Oppo launched the Find X5 series, comprising three models: the Find X5, the Find X5 Pro Dimensity version, and the Find X5 Pro. In 2023, the brand launched only two models, the Find X6 and the Find X6 Pro. In January of this year, the brand announced the Find X7 and the high-end Find X7 Ultra, with no intermediate model.

This time, the Find X8 Pro version might return and launch alongside the standard version. Both models may break cover in October of this year. On the other hand, the Find X8 Ultra version may compete with other “Ultra”-branded flagship phones in Q1 2025.

It is already known that the standard Find X8 will come equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chip. However, there is no clarity on whether the Pro version may come with either the Dimensity 9400 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Both chips are built on TSMC’s 3nm process.
