Nobina, the local transport operator of Finland has ordered 70 more e-buses.</p>
<p>Out of the 70 new electric buses, 42 of them are 13 meters long while 28 of them are 15 meters long. The company has said that these new buses are to be delivered in the summer of 2022 and will mainly operate on city routes in the greater Helsinki area.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-427130 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus.jpeg?x10805" alt="BYD Electric Bus" width="1200" height="673" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus.jpeg 1200w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-300x168.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-768x431.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-1024x574.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-696x390.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-1068x599.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/BYD-Electric-Bus-749x420.jpeg 749w" sizes="(max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px" /></p>
<p>The 13-meter models are relatively close to the 12-meter buses that are common in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/europe">Europe</a>. The 15-meter buses with double axles at the rear are mainly used in Scandinavia for intercity transport.</p>
<p>Both these variants ordered by Nobina are equipped with LFP batteries from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/byd">BYD</a>. In the 13-meter bus, one charge can cover a distance of around 400 kilometers while the 15-meter bus is rated to cover 450 kilometers on a single charge.</p>
<p>Commenting on this, Petri Auno, CEO of Nobina <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/finland">Finland</a>, said: <em>&#8220;We continue to select BYD eBuses based on their excellent track record for reliability, operational efficiency, performance, safety and of course, for the comfort they provide to our passengers. BYD eBuses now account for 25% of our Nobina Finland fleet and we look forward to enhancing this in the future.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>As noted, this is another order from Finland for BYD as the country had previously ordered 76 <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/electric-vehicle">electric buses</a> for use in Helsinki and Turku, which were delivered by the company earlier this year in August. With this new order, the total number of electric buses to be delivered by BYD in Finland stands at 119.</p>

<p>According to a <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/smartphone-market-rebounds-netherlands-denmark-finland-q4-2020/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter24feb2021&amp;utm_source=Counterpoint+Research+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=e0064312e9-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_08_06_11_19_COPY_01&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_0c8d75a0f8-e0064312e9-88263331" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>CounterPoint Research</em></a> report, that the rebound arrived despite a few regions still remaining under partial lockdown. Furthermore, Netherlands recorded the highest degree of recovery with a 19 percent quarter on quarter rise in smartphone shipments, over the other regions, followed by Finland and Denmark with 14 percent and 10 percent QoQ growth respectively. Notably, 5G enabled handset&#8217;s shipments also grew by 50 percent during this time in all three nations.</p>
<p>This was higher than the overall European average. Meanwhile, the iPhone 12 lineup was the most popular 5G device in these regions, which is also what led to the positive growth in Q4 of 2020. Similarly, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s20/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung Galaxy S20</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-note-20/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Note 20</a> lineup also performed well in the countries, while the mid tier segment had the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oneplus-nord/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus Nord</a> emerged as the highest selling 5G Android device in Finland and Denmark.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-372843 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Smartphone" width="4000" height="2250" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured.jpg 4000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-300x169.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-768x432.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-696x392.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-1068x601.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-747x420.jpg 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/OnePlus-Nord-Blue-Marble-Gray-Onyx-Gray-Ash-Featured-1920x1080.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px" /></p>
<p>Interestingly, popular Chinese brands also played a role in the markets. With <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oppo</a> being the third largest brand in the Dutch market, recording great performance thanks to its Reno 4 series. This also marked a 123 percent year on year growth of the brand. Samsung was also one of the major players in the mid range segments, with its A series seeing strong sales, but Apple still led the 5G handset market overall.</p>

<p>The Chinese smartphone maker recorded its highest ever shipments in a quarter, which was backed by its smartphone range within the 250 to 399 US Dollars price. The company saw great success through this range, which was mostly accredited to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-nord-n10-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">OnePlus Nord</a>. According to a <a href="https://www.counterpointresearch.com/oneplus-targets-upper-mid-tier-in-denmark-finland-and-netherlands/?utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=newsletter2020wk49-a&amp;utm_source=Counterpoint+Research+Newsletter&amp;utm_campaign=a79a64f34a-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_08_06_11_19_COPY_01&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_0c8d75a0f8-a79a64f34a-88263331" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>CounterointResearch</em></a> report, the company saw the fastest growth in Finland during Q3 2020, noting a 209 percent sequential growth. Notably, it was the only brand apart from <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Xiaomi</a> to also record positive growth within the declining market. This even had the company become the top 5G smartphone brand in terms of units in the region with a 53 percent market share, beating <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Samsung</a> with its 35 percent market share.</p>

<p>In Denmark, the company was again one of the fastest growing OEM, marking another doubling growth over the previous quarter. However, Samsung managed to still stay ahead of the Chinese brand in this market with a 38 percent market share for Android smartphones compared to the 25 percent market share of OnePlus. The Nord helped make the brand the second largest 5G smartphone brand in Q3 2020 in the region.</p>

<p>Arriving to the Netherlands, the positive trend continues as the company recorded strong growth in another declining market. Here, OnePlus marked an impressive 412 percent annual growth in Q3 2020 despite the Dutch market falling by 8 percent. The region is dominated by the South Korean tech giant with a 52 percent market share, while <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Oppo</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Apple</a> arrived second and third respectively. Despite not making the top 3 spots, the Nord still managed to become the third most popular smartphone in the region, accounting for 11 percent of the total shipments during this period. Looking at these results, we can only expect the brand to grow further in all of the three regions.</p>

<p>According to a<a href="https://tech.sina.com.cn/roll/2020-07-20/doc-iivhuipn4128124.shtml" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"> new report</a>, the known chipmaker has begun work through a 6G research and development center in <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/nokia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Nokia</a>&#8216;s home country Finland. For those unaware, Nokia is a Finnish company that is a known figure in the global communications and networking fields and 6G networking is the next generation of telecommunications, which is being researched by MediaTek through academic sites in Finland.</p>

<p>The Finnish government and local universities have already begun research and plan to commercialize the networking by 2030. Although, it is to be noted that the development for 6G is still very much in its nascent stages and at the moment, there are no defined technical indicators. Hence, the next few years should bring some interesting new developments in the field and possibly reveal some technical capabilities as well.</p>

<p>In response to the news about OnePlus&#8217; layoffs in Europe, the company clarified that it was a strategic restructuring move limited to its European division. In an official forum post, Tuomas L., head of OnePlus&#8217; Strategy in Europe, revealed that around 20 employees were affected by this restructuring in Germany, France, and the UK.</p>
<p>You can read the forum post <a href="https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/update-on-strategic-changes-in-europe.1218391/">here</a>. An excerpt from the post has been added below.</p>
<p><em>&#8220;As part of our strategy, we are looking to capitalize on opportunities in the Nordic region and Benelux by hiring for new positions, relocating some existing European staff and further enhancing our capabilities in these strategic markets. At the same time, we are making organizational changes in some existing markets, specifically Germany, France and the UK.&#8221;</em></p>
<p><em>&#8220;We are doing everything we can to support the approximately 20 total employees in these three markets who will be affected by this restructuring, including offering redundancy packages per local regulations. We highly value the contributions of these staff members and will do our best to ensure a smooth transition through this process.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus just launched the OnePlus 8 series, consisting of</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> OnePlus 8 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, the company’s most ambitious smartphone till date. However, the same cannot be said for its employees. According to a report by Engadget, the Chinese smartphone company has reportedly laid off several workers in Europe.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is not the first time OnePlus has downsized in </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Europe/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Europe</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. Last year, staffs in Spain and Italy had to face the same and as of now, the company has not a single worker in those regions.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The current lay-off includes removing up to 80% of employees (around 20 employees) in the regional offices of France, Germany, and the UK. To this, </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/OnePlus"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">responded that it is carrying out some strategic restructuring in Europe and even confirmed to be hiring in the region.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to a source close to the matter, the teams in Denmark, Finland, Netherlands and Belgium seem to be unaffected. The company considers these markets to have more potential and thus even asked some of its employees to relocate to Helsinki, which is expected to replace London as OnePlus’ European headquarters.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The primary reason for OnePlus to make such decisions lies in its new philosophy. As the company raced towards premium 5G smartphones, carriers like O2 and EE discontinued their partnerships with the brand in the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/UK/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">UK</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. The new </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/oneplus-8/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">OnePlus 8</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> series is only available on 3 in the region.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As per Ben Wood, Chief Analyst at CCS Insight, ‘OnePlus has fallen into the trap of over-promising and under-delivering’. The company is struggling hard to maintain relationships with carriers in Europe and has even turned back on core fans by stepping into the premium range.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Anyway, before the recent layoff, OnePlus had over 2,000 employees worldwide. The current tally of workes is unknown at the moment.</span></p>

Xiaomi has recently registered a research and development company in Tampere, Finland to focus on camera technology. The city is home to camera experts, thanks to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/nokia/"><strong>Nokia</strong></a> having a research center for years in this area.</p>
<p>Xiaomi follows the steps of Huawei which in 2016, also opened a development and research center in this Finnish city. At the time, the Chinese manufacturer has been hiring several Nokia experts for its ranks and has also partnered with Leica, putting its top-of-the-range smartphones as the best smartphone cameras on the market as proven by <a href="https://www.dxomark.com/category/smartphone-reviews/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">ranking DxOMark</a>, that places four Huawei smartphones in the top six.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-264152" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1080" height="1079" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland.jpg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-768x767.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-696x695.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-1068x1067.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/xiaomi-finland-420x420.jpg 420w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p>This may also be part of a Nokia and Xiaomi collaboration from two years ago. Both companies has a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2017/07/05/nokia-xiaomi-announce-business-collaboration-agreement/">collaboration agreement</a> which was centered around licensing patents between the two companies. Nokia agreed to provide network infrastructure equipment to its Chinese partner and give access to its patent-rich portfolio. This new expansion by the Chinese company might be a result from that partnership to at least some extent.</p>
<p>Xiaomi will definitely be doing research on products inside this facility as well, but the company has decided to start the R&amp;D arm with camera technology research. This means in the near future, it&#8217;s fully possible that we&#8217;ll be seeing Xiaomi devices with vastly better cameras on the company&#8217;s devices. Until then, stay around on Gizmochina.com for all you Chinese technology news.</p>
