Amazon has introduced the Fire TV Stick HD (2nd Gen), a smaller and updated version of its entry-level streaming device. It is built to bring smart TV features to older televisions, with a focus on better speed and a simpler interface.

The new model is noticeably slimmer, making it easier to plug in behind a TV or carry while travelling. Amazon says it is over 30 percent faster than the previous HD version, which shows up in quicker app launches and smoother navigation.

It supports 1080p Full HD streaming, with fallback to 720p at up to 60 fps. HDR formats include HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG. On the codec side, it handles H.265, H.264, VP9, and AV1. Audio support includes Dolby formats such as AC-3, E-AC-3, and E-AC3_JOC through HDMI pass-through.

Under the hood, the device runs on a quad-core 1.7 GHz processor with 8 GB of storage. It also brings Wi-Fi 6 support for more stable streaming on compatible networks, along with Bluetooth 5.3 and Bluetooth Low Energy for accessories.

The updated Fire TV interface reorganises content into sections like movies, TV shows, live TV, sports, and news. Alexa+ support is included in the US, Canada, and the UK, allowing voice search, smart home controls, and quick access to details like cast information. The device also supports cloud gaming services such as Amazon Luna and Xbox Game Pass.

An Adaptive Display feature is expected to roll out soon. It will allow users to adjust text size and scale the interface for better readability.

The Fire TV Stick HD can be powered directly from a TV’s USB port or through USB-C if needed. It comes with an Alexa Voice Remote that supports voice commands and can control power and volume on compatible TVs, soundbars, and AV receivers using IR. The device measures 91.5 × 21.1 × 14.5 mm and weighs 35.8 grams. It works with TVs that support 1080p or 720p output over HDMI.

Amazon has just announced a couple of new smart TV models under its Fire TV branding. The new launches include three new sizes for the Fire TV Omni QLED series and two variants for the Fire TV 2 lineup.

Fire TV Omni QLED Series

Talking about the Fire TV Omni QLED models first, the e-commerce giant has launched the new smart TVs in three display options, namely 43 inches, 50 inches, and 55 inches. These new models promise to offer an immersive viewing experience with its 4K Quantum Dot technology panel that arrives with up to 96 zones of full array local dimming. It also supports Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive for an improved cinematic experience.

Apart from all this, the device has also been built with hands free control from Alexa. The Omni QLED series also offers Fire TV Ambient Experience. Thanks to a bunch of built in sensors, the TV is capable of detecting when a person is in the room to switch to the Ambient Experience. This mode basically has the television show helpful information powered by Alexa. Other key information includes notes, schedules, smart device control, and audio streaming.

This mode can also turn the Omni QLED series TVs into an art gallery as well. One can expect to see to see hundreds of new high quality art pieces with over 1,700 free artworks. The collection also includes pieces from famous institutions like the National Gallery of Art and The Art Institute of Chicago, National Galleries of Scotland, National Museum of Wales, Munich’s Pinakothek of the Modern, and others.

Fire TV 2 Series

Alongside the new Fire TV Omni QLED series, the company also launched the new Fire TV 2 series as well. It will be available in two display size variants, including 32 inches or 40 inches. Furthermore, the new smart TVs are powered by Alexa and bring access to over 1 million movies and TV episodes from major online streaming platforms like Prime Video, Netflix, and more.

The 32 inch model offers an HD resolution while the 40 inch version offers FHD resolution. Both models support HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Audio. This is paired with Fire TV Alexa Voice Remote to control the content or check the weather and other details. Notably, the new Fire TV supports the open source ASHA protocol.

As scheduled, Xiaomi launched the first Redmi-branded Amazon FireOS-powered smart TV in India today. The product officially goes by Redmi Smart Fire TV. The television currently arrives in a single 32-inch variant.

For the unaware, this is not the first FireOS TV from Xiaomi. The company sells a couple of models in Europe. But those televisions are Xiaomi-branded and not Redmi like this one.

Let’s check out what this new Redmi TV for India has to offer.

Redmi Smart Fire TV 32 Specifications

The TV sports a 32-inch LED-backlit LCD panel with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels (HD Ready), and a 60Hz refresh rate. The display supports up to 6.5ms response time and a 178° viewing angle. Just like all Xiaomi televisions, it comes with the company’s proprietary picture profile called ‘Vivid Picture Engine’.

The screen is further paired with 20W (2 x 10W) speakers. There’s support for Dolby Audio, DTS-HD, and DTS Virtual: X. The TV has a metal frame but other parts of the body, including stands, are plastic.

It is powered by an unnamed chipset comprising a quad-core CPU (4 x ARM Cortex-A35) and an ARM Mali G31 MP2 GPU. The silicon is paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage.

The device boots Amazon Fire OS 7 with support for all the leading streaming platforms, free live TV channels, Alexa, Miracast, and Apple AirPlay. It ships with a new voice-enabled remote control, which is different from the one included with the firm’s Android TV-powered televisions. This latest remote includes useful keys for playback controls, mute, guide, apps, and Alexa.

On the connectivity front, the TV offers dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, and Ethernet. It comes with all the essential ports, such as 1 x AV, 2 x HDMI (one of them is ARC compatible), a 3.5mm headphone jack, an antenna, and 2 x USB.

Last but not least, the television ships in an eco-friendly box that can be repurposed for DIY furniture.

Redmi Smart Fire TV 32 Price and Availability in India

The Redmi Smart Fire TV 32 is priced at ₹13,999 (~$170) in India. However, for a limited time, it will be sold at ₹12,999 (~$158). Customers can avail bank discount/coupon to further lower the price to ₹11,999 (~$146).

The TCL CF6 Series 4K Fire TV has just been announced in some European markets. This new model brings with it QLED display technology that has a bezel less design. So let’s have a look.

The company has just launched the new TV in the UK, Italy, Spain, and Germany. It sports a QLED panel that delivers vivid images thanks to HDR Pro. It also brings support for HDR10+. HDR10, HDR HLG, and Dolby Vision as well. As the name suggests, the new CF6 Series also comes with an integrated Fire TV, which basically lets you access content from various popular streaming platforms and services, like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube.

The new CF6 model can even be controlled by Amazon Alexa through voice commands. These voice commands can allow users to adjust the volumes, open apps, and more without using a remote control. One can even link other smart home products as well with the new TV. For audio, the CF6 houses built in speakers that support Dolby Atmos. It offers an HDMI 2.1 port and has a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. Notably, the QLED panel is surrounded by a near bezel less design.

The TCL CF6 Series 4K Fire TV comes in two sizes, namely a 50 inch and a 55 inch variant. The smaller of the two is available for a price tag of around 394 US Dollars, while the larger 55 inch model costs around 452 US Dollars. The CF6 Series 4K Fire TV is currently avaiable for purchase on Amazon.

Fire TV Omni Series

The Fire TV Omni Series will be available starting on October 27, and when it launches, buyers will be able to pick it up in 43”, 50”, 55”, 65”, and 75” sizes, all of which have a 4K resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Digital. The more premium 65” and 75” models also have Dolby Vision.

The designs of the TVs are a bit different but they are not unlike what we have seen from other brands. Amazon has adopted the same design for the 65” and 75” models with bezels that measure just 1.1mm in size while the other smaller models have a less-premium appearance.

The Omni Series have hands-free Alexa support, so you don’t need the remote to watch your favorite content. All you have to do is call on Alexa to play your favorite show or movie, or control that smart appliance, thanks to the built-in microphones. If you are concerned about privacy, Amazon has added a switch that electronically disconnects the microphones. The Omni series also supports two-way video calling with Alexa Communications but you will have to purchase separately a compatible webcam.

Fire TV 4-series

The Fire TV 4-series are Amazon’s more affordable line of TVs and they are available in 43”, 50”, and 55” sizes. All three have 4K LED screens with HDR 10 and HLG. They also have the same port selections as the Fire TV Omni Series and the same dual 8W speakers. So what’s different?

There is no hands-free Alexa, which means you are stuck with the Alexa Voice Remote or the Fire TV app. There is also no support for two-way video calling with Alexa Communications.

The Fire TV 4-series will also be available starting on October 27. The 43” model will sell for $369.99, the 50” model is $469.99, while the 55” model is $519.99. All of the TVs are available for pre-order now.

Amazon has not announced when and if the TVs will be available in other regions.

Just like we have seen on the remotes of numerous Android TV streaming devices, the new Alexa Voice Remote has preset app buttons for not only Amazon’s own Prime Video service but also for Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu. Considering a lot of people subscribe to only one streaming service, some of these buttons may never be used. Sorry HBO Max users and the other streaming services that don’t have a shortcut button.

Another change is that the microphone button has been replaced with a dedicated Alexa button. After all, it is called an Alexa Voice Remote. Also, the mute button has been moved to the left side of the volume buttons and an additional button called “Guide” is on the opposite side. Below are the devices the new remote is compatible and incompatible with.

The 3rd gen Alexa Voice Remote is already listed on Amazon US but it doesn’t have a price tag yet. When it goes on sale, it will come with two AAA batteries.

The new user interface, which is more personalized, was announced in September and began rolling out in December 2020 to some of its streaming devices (Fire TV Stick Lite and 3rd Gen Fire TV Stick) but will just be arriving for the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Cube next month.

Some of the changes that the new UI brings include a profile selection screen. This is a feature that Android TV users have been demanding for years. Fire TV users will be able to create up to six different profiles, four of which can be kids’ profiles.

Another feature is the addition of a Find tab that opens up a card-based interface for categories and genres. By clicking on a genre, content related to that genre from multiple sources is presented to the user. This is not only faster but better than having to go through individual apps to find what to watch. The Find Tab sits inside the Nav Bar at the top which has other tabs such as Library, Home, and Live, as well as your favorite apps.

Alexa is still an essential part of the experience and using it (voice) to find shows is faster than having to manually search for a show or movie. Of course, you can still use it to control compatible devices too.

There is no specific date for when the update will arrive on these two devices but if you own either of them, you should get a notification once the update lands on your device. The source also adds that the new user interface will be made available for TVs running Fire TV OS and older streaming devices in the coming months.

Five of the products are Echo related and the last is a new Fire TV.

Amazon Echo 2nd Gen

The Amazon Echo was the first Alexa powered device released by the retail giant in 2014. Then it announced the Amazon Tap and Echo Dot. While the Echo Dot already got a second gen model almost a year ago, the Echo is just getting its own three years later.

The new Amazon Echo is smaller with a height of 148mm but wider with a diameter of 88mm. The biggest change is in its appearance as it now comes in six new styles – Heather Gray Fabric, Charcoal Fabric, Sandstone Fabric, Oak Finish, Walnut Finish and Silver Finish.

[envira-gallery id=”150942″]

It still has 7 microphones that can pick up instructions from all corners of the room in addition to 360° audio. The top is different as you now have volume buttons in addition to the microphone off and Action buttons. You also do not have a microphone grille for the 7 microphones.

The 2nd Gen Amazon Echo will sell for $99.99 and will start shipping in November.

Amazon Echo Plus

The Echo Plus is just like the first gen Echo. However it has a built-in ZigBee smart hub for controlling your home. It is perfect for those who do not already own a smart hub.

The Echo Plus is priced at $149.99 and is available in black, white, and silver. It will ship next month and buyers will get a free Philips Hue bulb.

Amazon Echo Spot

The Echo Spot is a blend of the Echo Show and Echo Dot. You get a smaller circular screen in a compact body along with other features of the Show such as the front camera.

It has a 2W speaker but external speakers can be connected via the 3.5mm audio jack. It comes in black and white and will sell for $129.99 and will be available in December.

Echo Connect

The Echo Connect is a black rectangular box for voice calling. Since Amazon already added voice calling to its Echo speakers, those who have a home phone service and want to connect it to their Echo device need to buy this. All you have to do is plug in your phone line into the Echo Connect and sync your contacts with the Alexa app.

Ask your other compatible Echo devices to call a contact and it places the call using your home line number. It will sell for $34.99 and be available in December.

Echo Buttons

The Echo Buttons are a fun way to use Alexa. They are the first of the Alexa Gadgets and are deigned to provide users with a physical way to interact with other Echo devices.

Other Alexa gadgets will be released and they will be able to perform actions just like the buttons, sync, react to notifications, and send input to your echo device.

The Echo Buttons for now can be used during an Alexa trivia game just like on a Quiz shows. It will come in a pack of two for $20.

Fire TV (4K)

Details of the new Fire TV leaked two weeks ago. The Chromecast-like device will provide 4K content at 60fps as well as HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. It comes with the same remote we saw in the image which has voice control for Alexa once you pair any of your Echo devices to the TV.
