Last week, Black Shark announced the Black Shark 3 and Black Shark 3 Pro, bringing the number of its gaming smartphones to 6 since it was founded in 2018. More gaming smartphones will launch in the coming months such as the Nubia Red Magic 5G which is scheduled for a March 12 release. We are also expecting the ROG Phone III and Lenovo’s first gaming smartphone which will launch under its Legion gaming brand.

Gaming smartphones pack the same hardware (read chipset) as regular flagship phones – so you get a largely similar performance between devices from the two categories.

However, gaming smartphones have other features that are practically what gives them their name. Such as a display with a high refresh rate, a high touch sampling rate, a large battery capacity, faster charging, gaming-oriented optimized software, physical/capacitive shoulder buttons, superior cooling technology, and a matching design (color-changing LEDs, extra ports, etc.).

While a regular flagship doesn’t usually have all of the bells and whistles of a gaming smartphone, it will handle any of the games you throw at it with ease. You can also buy accessories that can improve the gaming experience such as a controller or a cooling fan.
