<p>Further, the company has now started Flyme 9 Internal Beta Registration for the Meizu 16s Pro, 16s, 16th Plus, 16th, 16T, and 16X models. The original beta users of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flyme-8">Flyme 8</a> will be automatically joined in and the new participants can go to the &#8220;System Update&#8221; section in the app and register for the same.</p>

<p>The latest Flyme 9, which was announced last month, comes with several improvements and new features. As this is a major update, it features significant changes in the design, <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/privacy">privacy</a>, functions, efficiency, and other aspects.</p>
<p>The desktop icons are now in square boxes with chamfered edges and there are beautiful color schemes that blend well with the background. Each third-party application can also rely on algorithms to achieve consistent icon styles.</p>
<p>The notification and control centers have been redesigned and are displayed side by side in a horizontal screen orientation, which is convenient to operate. The company has also visually simplified the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/fingerprint">fingerprint</a> icon and application interface, removing the decorative elements and retaining only the necessary elements.</p>
<p>There are some interesting screensavers and wallpapers as well as new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/themes">themes</a>. Alive wallpaper supports dark and light color modes and can be transformed through different levels. The interface is also embedded with dynamic effects, covering screen fingerprint unlocking, facial recognition, screen rotation, gestures, etc.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-381469 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021.jpg?x10805" alt="Meizu April Fools Day Prank 2021" width="1080" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021.jpg 1080w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/Meizu-April-Fools-Day-Prank-2021-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px" /></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">These days, phones from all OEMs have identical hardware. They only differ in terms of their design and software. Each Android handset maker has its own UI to differentiate itself from the competition. In fact, software plays a key role in purchase decisions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">But unfortunately, despite improving their UIs, some companies have been lately ruining the UX (user experience) by introducing ads, bloatware, push notifications, and whatnot. The most popular OEMs known for this are </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Xiaomi/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Xiaomi</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> (</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/MIUI/"><span style="font-weight: 400">MIUI</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">) and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> (</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/One-UI/"><span style="font-weight: 400">One UI</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">).</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Taking a dig at such companies, Meizu posted an April Fool’s day prank on Weibo. In this post, the Chinese smartphone maker trolled companies with ads in their UI by announcing a new version of its latest flagship phones called </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-18/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu 18</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> Ad Edition and </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/meizu-18-pro/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu 18 Pro</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> Ad Edition respectively.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_374650" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-374650" style="width: 1333px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-374650" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured.jpg?x10805" alt="Meizu 18 Featured" width="1333" height="888" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured.jpg 1333w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-1068x711.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Meizu-18-Featured-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1333px) 100vw, 1333px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-374650" class="wp-caption-text">Meizu 18</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The company goes on to say that this new variant of the Meizu 18 series will prompt users throughout the day by pushing notifications. Further, it will ship with 999 apps pre-installed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">The last and best feature of the new </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Meizu/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400"> 18 series is that the full-page ad on these phones can be closed after 999 seconds. The company claims that this can help youngsters who are addicted to smartphones.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">One might be wondering why Meizu is focussing on these three points specifically. Because with Flyme 9, the company has cut down ads, push notifications, and pre-installed applications to offer a ‘</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/24/meizu-17-series-flyme-9-os/"><span style="font-weight: 400">pure OS experience</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’.</span></p>

<p>The device runs the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/android-10">Android 10</a> operating system out-of-the-box with the company’s own Flyme OS 8.1 on top. Ever since the launch of the phone, Meizu has been regularly pushing updates and introducing new features. The phone is powered by a 4,500mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging technology.</p>

The company has now unveiled the Flyme 9 custom ROM which has been a long time coming. The new ROM takes over from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/28/meizu-announces-flyme-8-os-all-visual-performance-upgrades-detailed-here-with-availability/">Flyme 8</a> which was released in 2019 although Meizu pushed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/08/meizu-announces-flyme-8-1-based-on-android-10-eligible-devices/">Flyme 8.1</a> to some models last year.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374394" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png?x10805" alt="Flyme 9" width="532" height="342" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png 532w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2-300x193.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px" /></a></p>
<p>The long wait will likely not be in vein as the new ROM comes with several imrovemnets and new features. Since this is a major update, it features significant changes in the design, privacy, functions, efficiency and other aspects.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374393" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png?x10805" alt="" width="698" height="382" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png 698w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-300x164.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-696x382.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of the design, the desktop icons are now in a square boxes with chamfered edges and beaiutigful color schemes that blend well with the background. Each third-party application can also rely on algorithms to achieve consistent icon styles. Some system-level plug-ins have been added, and some plug-ins can be dragged into the negative screen (Aicy overview).<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374402" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png?x10805" alt="" width="699" height="522" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png 699w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-300x224.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-696x520.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-562x420.png 562w" sizes="(max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px" /></a></p>
<p>The notification and control centers has also been redesigned. At the same time, the notifications and control keys are displayed side by side in a horizontal screen orientation, which is convenient to operate.</p>
<p>Meizu has also visually simplified the fingerprint icon and application interface, removing the decorative elements and retaining only the most direct page logic and necessary elements.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374396" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png?x10805" alt="" width="667" height="532" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png 667w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4-300x239.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4-527x420.png 527w" sizes="(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></a></p>
<p>You also get some interesting screensavers and wallpapers as well as new themes. The Flyme 9 also includes Flyme 8 themes allowing users to travel through time and space and reminisce about the classics. Alive wallpaper supports dark and light color modes and can be transformed through different levels.</p>
<p>The interface is also embedded with dynamic effects, covering screen fingerprint unlocking, facial recognition, screen rotation, gestures, etc. The icon self-layering algorithm can have smooth and smart animation even if the application is unpopular. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374397" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png?x10805" alt="" width="599" height="258" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5-300x129.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Flyme for Watch</strong></p>
<p>In addition to Flyme 9, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/meizu">Meizu</a> also unveiled the all-new Flyme for Watch which is specifically designed for smartwatches. The smartwatch and fitness tracker manufacturing sector is growing very fast.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374398" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png?x10805" alt="" width="598" height="418" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6-300x210.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>Starting from the hardware features and interaction methods, Meizu has newly defined the design language, and extended the sense of order of Flyme 9 to the small screen. It is equipped with a redesigned launcher, notification center and shortcut switch, which brings easy and convenient interaction.</p>
<p>In terms of vision, Flyme for Watch supports highly customizable dials and provides more than 30 small components. Users can freely use their creativity to match. It supports album dial settings for dynamic and static pictures. It also has a unique art dial to choose from, anytime, anywhere.</p>
<p>For functions, Flyme for Watch not only supports conventional notification synchronization, music control and other functions, but also supports eSIM independent call function. Tat means it allows the watch to function ireespective of a phone. There is also a Find My Phone feature onboard.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374399" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png?x10805" alt="" width="598" height="308" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>At the same time, Flyme for Watch also comes with the custom Aicy voice assistant and it functions in the same way as on a obile phone. That is, it provide users with a real smart watch experience. The introduction of the Meizu Pay payment tool also expands more usage scenarios for Meizu watches.</p>
<p>The custom watch ROM also supports the installation of third-party apps. The most advanced apps include Air Travel, Baidu Maps, NetEase Cloud Music, Alipay, Sogou Input Method, QQ and many other watch-side apps.</p>
<p>Aiming at the two natural pain points of smartwatch performance and battery life, Meizu also introduced the OneMind smart engine on the watch side to customize the core capabilities in depth according to the hardware characteristics and usage scenarios of the watch, including as many as 300 special optimizations.</p>
<p>Meizu announced during the event that it will release its first smartwatch equipped with Flyme for Watch in May this year.</p>

<p><em><a href="https://reameizu.com/meizu-watch-meizu-18-and-meizu-18-pro-batteries-pass-cqc-certification/">Reameizu</a></em> has come across the battery capacities of the Meizu 18 models through the China Quality Certification Center (CQC). It found that the battery with model number BA181 and 3,910mAh capacity may belong to the Meizu 18. The BA191 battery with 4,855mAh capacity could be powering the Meizu 18 Pro.</p>

<p>Meizu is also <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/26/meizu-watch-gets-certified-has-support-for-lte/">working on a smartwatch</a> called <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/08/meizu-trademarks-meizu-watch-flyme-for-watch/">Meizu Watch</a>. The BA007 battery with 420mAh capacity that has appeared at CQC’s database seemingly belongs to the Meizu Watch. It is unclear whether it will go official along with Meizu 18 models.</p>
<p>The rumor mill is yet to spill accurate information on the specs of the Meizu 18 series. A recent report claimed that the Meizu 18 could be featuring the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-870">Snapdragon 870</a> mobile platform, 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage, and 64-megapixel +12-megapixel + 5-megapixel triple camera system. Probably, the Meizu 18 Pro could be featuring the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-888">Snapdragon 888</a> SoC. Both models are expected to Samsung E4 AMOLED punch-hole displays that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/27/meizu-18-series-display-and-battery-details-emerge-in-a-new-leak-ahead-of-rumored-q1-launch/">support FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate</a>.</p>
<p>The Flyme 9 UI will be succeeding the Flyme 8 UI, which was announced back in August 2019. The Flyme 9 could be based on Android 11 for newer models and Android 10 for older models.</p>
