Now, the company has confirmed that the upcoming wearable device from the brand, named Meizu Smartwatch, will be made official in China on 31st May.</p>
<p>The poster of the upcoming Meizu Smartwatch reveals a square-shaped dial for the device, which is in line with the previous leaks. This gives it a look similar to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-watch">Apple Watch</a> but details about the screen parameters haven&#8217;t been revealed.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-390604 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Meizu-Smartwatch-Launch-Date.jpeg?x44794" alt="Meizu Smartwatch Launch Date" width="690" height="1227" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Meizu-Smartwatch-Launch-Date.jpeg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Meizu-Smartwatch-Launch-Date-169x300.jpeg 169w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Meizu-Smartwatch-Launch-Date-576x1024.jpeg 576w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Meizu-Smartwatch-Launch-Date-236x420.jpeg 236w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /></p>
<p>From the leaks so far, it has been revealed that the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/meizu-watch">Meizu Smartwatch</a> will come running the Flyme operating system and will also allow users to download and install third-party applications on the device.</p>
<p>It will offer several different types of functions, including playing music, offering activity tracking, mobile payment services, and support for <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/eSIM">eSIM connectivity</a>, allowing users to make and receive phone calls.</p>
<p>While not yet confirmed, we expect the device to come with support for current-generation features like blood oxygen level monitoring (<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/spo2">SpO2</a>), heartbeat tracking, and more. So far, the device&#8217;s specifications are not yet known but we expect the company to share more details in the coming days through teasers.</p>
<p>To know more about this upcoming Meizu <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/smartwatch">Smartwatch</a>, including the specifications, features, variants, pricing, and availability details, we will have to wait for the official launch in China in the coming days.</p>

The company has now unveiled the Flyme 9 custom ROM which has been a long time coming. The new ROM takes over from the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/28/meizu-announces-flyme-8-os-all-visual-performance-upgrades-detailed-here-with-availability/">Flyme 8</a> which was released in 2019 although Meizu pushed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/08/meizu-announces-flyme-8-1-based-on-android-10-eligible-devices/">Flyme 8.1</a> to some models last year.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374394" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png?x44794" alt="Flyme 9" width="532" height="342" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2.png 532w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-2-300x193.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 532px) 100vw, 532px" /></a></p>
<p>The long wait will likely not be in vein as the new ROM comes with several imrovemnets and new features. Since this is a major update, it features significant changes in the design, privacy, functions, efficiency and other aspects.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374393" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png?x44794" alt="" width="698" height="382" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9.png 698w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-300x164.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-696x382.png 696w" sizes="(max-width: 698px) 100vw, 698px" /></a></p>
<p>In terms of the design, the desktop icons are now in a square boxes with chamfered edges and beaiutigful color schemes that blend well with the background. Each third-party application can also rely on algorithms to achieve consistent icon styles. Some system-level plug-ins have been added, and some plug-ins can be dragged into the negative screen (Aicy overview).<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374402" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png?x44794" alt="" width="699" height="522" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8.png 699w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-300x224.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-80x60.png 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-265x198.png 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-696x520.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-8-562x420.png 562w" sizes="(max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px" /></a></p>
<p>The notification and control centers has also been redesigned. At the same time, the notifications and control keys are displayed side by side in a horizontal screen orientation, which is convenient to operate.</p>
<p>Meizu has also visually simplified the fingerprint icon and application interface, removing the decorative elements and retaining only the most direct page logic and necessary elements.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374396" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png?x44794" alt="" width="667" height="532" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4.png 667w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4-300x239.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-4-527x420.png 527w" sizes="(max-width: 667px) 100vw, 667px" /></a></p>
<p>You also get some interesting screensavers and wallpapers as well as new themes. The Flyme 9 also includes Flyme 8 themes allowing users to travel through time and space and reminisce about the classics. Alive wallpaper supports dark and light color modes and can be transformed through different levels.</p>
<p>The interface is also embedded with dynamic effects, covering screen fingerprint unlocking, facial recognition, screen rotation, gestures, etc. The icon self-layering algorithm can have smooth and smart animation even if the application is unpopular. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374397" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png?x44794" alt="" width="599" height="258" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5.png 599w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-5-300x129.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px" /></a></p>
<p><strong>Flyme for Watch</strong></p>
<p>In addition to Flyme 9, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/meizu">Meizu</a> also unveiled the all-new Flyme for Watch which is specifically designed for smartwatches. The smartwatch and fitness tracker manufacturing sector is growing very fast.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374398" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png?x44794" alt="" width="598" height="418" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6-300x210.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-6-100x70.png 100w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>Starting from the hardware features and interaction methods, Meizu has newly defined the design language, and extended the sense of order of Flyme 9 to the small screen. It is equipped with a redesigned launcher, notification center and shortcut switch, which brings easy and convenient interaction.</p>
<p>In terms of vision, Flyme for Watch supports highly customizable dials and provides more than 30 small components. Users can freely use their creativity to match. It supports album dial settings for dynamic and static pictures. It also has a unique art dial to choose from, anytime, anywhere.</p>
<p>For functions, Flyme for Watch not only supports conventional notification synchronization, music control and other functions, but also supports eSIM independent call function. Tat means it allows the watch to function ireespective of a phone. There is also a Find My Phone feature onboard.<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png?x44794"><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-374399" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png?x44794" alt="" width="598" height="308" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7.png 598w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/flyme-9-7-300x155.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 598px) 100vw, 598px" /></a></p>
<p>At the same time, Flyme for Watch also comes with the custom Aicy voice assistant and it functions in the same way as on a obile phone. That is, it provide users with a real smart watch experience. The introduction of the Meizu Pay payment tool also expands more usage scenarios for Meizu watches.</p>
<p>The custom watch ROM also supports the installation of third-party apps. The most advanced apps include Air Travel, Baidu Maps, NetEase Cloud Music, Alipay, Sogou Input Method, QQ and many other watch-side apps.</p>
<p>Aiming at the two natural pain points of smartwatch performance and battery life, Meizu also introduced the OneMind smart engine on the watch side to customize the core capabilities in depth according to the hardware characteristics and usage scenarios of the watch, including as many as 300 special optimizations.</p>
<p>Meizu announced during the event that it will release its first smartwatch equipped with Flyme for Watch in May this year.</p>

The Meizu Light Smartwatch didn&#8217;t get a successor neither did Meizu release any other watch or even a fitness tracker afterward. Almost five years later, the Chinese manufacturer is back with a full-fledged smartwatch that will launch soon as the Meizu Watch. Ahead of the announcement, the watch has been spotted at a Chinese certification agency.</p>
<p>The Meizu Watch was seen on the website of the China Quality Certification Centre which issues the popular Compulsory Certification of China a.k.a. 3C Certificate.  The certificate shows that the watch has model number M007W and has support for 7.5W (5V 1.5A) charging.</p>
<figure id="attachment_367835" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-367835" style="width: 690px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-367835" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Meizu-Watch-3C.jpg?x44794" alt="Meizu Watch 3C certificate" width="690" height="316" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Meizu-Watch-3C.jpg 690w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Meizu-Watch-3C-300x137.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 690px) 100vw, 690px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-367835" class="wp-caption-text">Image via: Digital Chat Station</figcaption></figure>
<p>It also states that it has LTE support which means it either has a space for a SIM card or has an eSIM. With LTE support, those who pick up the Meizu Watch will be able to make and receive calls without the need o be tethered to a phone. Users will also be able to connect to the internet to use apps and features that require an internet connection.</p>
<p><img class="lazy aligncenter" title="Meizu’s first smartwatch goes online: running smart systems, supporting eSIM independent calls" src="https://wx2.sinaimg.cn/large/9471dbc1gy1gm5vv8n7z7j20r60c3jrp.jpg" /></p>
<p>The Meizu Watch will run <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/08/meizu-trademarks-meizu-watch-flyme-for-watch/">“Flyme For Watch”</a>, a special version of its Flyme OS designed for smartwatches when it launches this spring. A poster released for the operating system shows a smartwatch with a square face alongside a larger circle. Our guess is that Meizu may launch both a square-faced watch and one with a round dial.</p>
<p>We expect the smartwatch to have an AMOLED display, heart rate tracking, SpO2 level measurement, and support for tracking various sports.</p>
<p>The Meizu Watch will be announced in China. We do not know if there will be an international release seeing as Meizu is yet to launch a new phone for global markets in more than a year.</p>

And going by the recent development, it seems that there will be more than one wearable device from Meizu.</p>
<p>Meizu has registered a new Weibo account named Meizu <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/smartwatch">Smartwatch</a> or &#8220;Flyme for Watch&#8221;, which has also been certified and validated on the platform. The company has also confirmed that the first product will be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.</p>

<p>Earlier, it was reported that the company had <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/08/meizu-trademarks-meizu-watch-flyme-for-watch/">applied for trademarking</a> two names in July this year &#8212; Meizu Watch and Flyme for Watch. Flyme is the company&#8217;s own custom skin for the Android smartphones used on the company&#8217;s mobile phones.</p>
<p>Additionally, a smartwatch was hinted by the company in the eighth-anniversary poster of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/flyme">Flyme OS</a> but nothing much is known about the same at this time. However, we expect to know more about this in the coming weeks, as the launch date nears.</p>
<p>Notably, the company has already entered the wearable devices market with the launch of a hybrid smartwatch called ‘Meizu Smart Watch Mix’ aka ‘<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/08/18/meizu-light-smartwatch-launches-taobao-crowdfunding-platform/">Meizu Light Smartwatch</a>’. But the said Meizu Watch will be the company&#8217;s first actual smartwatch.</p>

<p>Flyme is the name of the custom skin uses in Meizu its smartphones. At the moment, the trademarks are currently under the process of registration. Unfortunately, not a lot of information is currently available regarding the company&#8217;s upcoming first smartwatch. Although certain things are known, like the smartwatch will run Flyme (custom skin) for the watches, but it is unclear if it is built based on the Android Wear platform or the AOSP.</p>

There is still time for the launch so we will have to wait for further leaks for any additional information. The availability of the product in markets outside of China is also unknown at the moment. Thus, we will have to wait for the official launch date to be announced as further news or leaks should arrive close to that time. So stay tuned for more updates.</p>

According to the latest teaser on </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Flyme"><span style="font-weight: 400">Flyme</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’s (the company’s Android skin) official Weibo account, the brand’s first proper smartwatch will be finally launching in Q4 2020 with Flyme For Watch software on board.</span></p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Meizu"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">is known for smartphones with standout designs. Since its inception, its hardware and software have been different from other companies. However, the company has not launched a proper smartwatch in its 12 years of existence in the smartphone industry.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">But that’s going to change soon as the brand officially teases the launch of its first-ever proper smartwatch in Q4 2020. Additionally, it also confirms that it will be running Flyme For Watch.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Having said that, the base OS underneath the Flyme For Watch is a mystery. <p><span style="font-weight: 400">Also, you might have noticed by now that we are calling the upcoming Meizu wearable as ‘proper smartwatch’. That’s because the brand already launched a hybrid smartwatch called ‘</span><a href="https://www.meizu.com/en/accessory/mix.html"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu Smart Watch Mix</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’ aka ‘</span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/08/18/meizu-light-smartwatch-launches-taobao-crowdfunding-platform/"><span style="font-weight: 400">Meizu Light Smartwatch</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400">’ in 2016.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400">Although the launch of Meizu’s next wearable is months away, we can expect it to start leaking days or even weeks ahead of its official announcement.</span></p>
