Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch owners are in for a treat as the company is rolling out new features for the wearables. The new additions arrive from a software upgrade, which brings the Wear OS 3.5 build.

Fossil Gen 6 Smartwatches Wear OS 3.5 Update

The new update was released and it adds new features along with enhancements to the smartwatches. These Gen 6 smartwatches include models like Standard, Wellness Edition, Skagen Falster, and Diesel Griffed. With Wear OS 3.5, Fossil claims that users can expect to see improved battery life, although no specifics were revealed. So the end user experience could vary.

The Fossil Gen 6 smartwatches will also run up to 30 percent faster thanks to a more optimized experience. Furthermore, these models will support more third party apps now. There are changes to the UI as well, with a Tile layout for the home screen, a Google Home shortcut, and gesture controls for more intuitive navigation. Notably, the enhanced performance is also paired with better fitness tracking thanks to Fitbit integration.

This is not surprising considering Google acquired Fitbit a while back. Just earlier this year, we had also talked about the Gen 6 watch lineup receiving the Wear OS 3 update. Fossil is no newcomer to wearables. The company has been involved with smartwatches since the early 2000s, and it has garnered a fair amount of praise for its products worldwide. Back when the Wear OS 3 update was released, Google Assistant mysteriously disappeared from many smartwatches, including Fossil smartwatches. Only the Pixel Watch and Samsung’s newer Galaxy Watches had support for the feature. However, Fossil is now stepping in, ensuring that users no longer have to switch brands just to have the convenience of talking to Google on their wrist.

This month, Fossil is rolling out an update that adds Google Assistant to its Gen 6 smartwatches running Wear OS 3. This update extends to not only Fossil’s own models but also to counterparts from Diesel, Michael Kors, and Skagen. There is a small catch, though – the smartwatch needs to be paired with a phone running standard Android with Google apps.

If you’re already familiar with using Google or Samsung smartwatches, the functionality of the Assistant on Fossil’s Gen 6 watches will feel quite similar. You can activate the AI helper by saying “hey Google,” holding a button, or tapping a watch face complication. This feature allows you to answer texts, control music, and perform various tasks that typically require your phone. In late August, Fossil announced the Gen 6 smartwatch, its latest Wear OS-powered wearable with a Snapdragon 4100+ processor. Nearly a month later, it launched the smartwatch in India. It has now followed it up with the Michael Kors Access Gen 6 Bradshaw which is practically a more premium version of the regular Gen 6.

The Michael Kors Access Gen 6 Bradshaw series have the same specifications as the Fossil Gen 6 but differ with respect to design. They are targeted at those who want a smartwatch with a more premium design. So unlike the Fossil Gen 6 that comes in both stainless and leather variants, the Michael Kors Access Gen 6 is available with only stainless steel bands.

The smartwatch comes in only one size – 44mm – which has a 1.28-inch AMOLED display with a 326 PPI pixel density. There is a Snapdragon Wear 4100+ under the hood along with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Just like on the Fossil Gen 6, users should experience faster app load times and a reduction in power consumption when compared to the last generation.

The smartwatch has a 24-hour heart rate monitor, a blood oxygen level sensor, sleep tracking, voice-activated Google Assistant, NFC, GPS, 5 ATM water resistance rating, music playback control, app notifications, support for Bluetooth calls, and support for fast charging.

Just like the Fossil Gen 6, it is modeled after, it too doesn’t run the new version of Wear OS but it should get the update when it begins to roll out.

The starting price is ₹25,996 for the Michael Kors Access Gen 6 Bradshaw and it goes up to ₹32,495

American watchmaker Fossil has launched its latest Gen 6 smartwatch in India. The Fossil Gen 6 was first launched for the global market a couple of weeks back and now, it is available in India. The watch comes with a higher price tag than what it sells in the U.S. The watch starts at Rs. 23,995 (~$325) for the 42mm model and goes up to Rs. 24,995 (~$339) for the 44mm model. For reference, the Gen 6 starts at $299 in the US.

Fossil Gen 6 arrives as the first smartwatch to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ processor. This is said to bring up to 30% performance improvement compared to the Gen 5. The processor is paired with 1GB of RAM and there is 8GB of storage onboard.

The watch sports a 1.28-inch touchscreen AMOLED display. The watch is encased in a stainless steel case and is available in 44mm and 42mm case size options. The 44mm variant comes in four color options while the 42mm size is available in 3 color options.

Further, the Fossil Gen 6 comes with a swim-proof, 3 ATM rating. It also features a fast-charging battery and has an Sp02 sensor that allows users to measure their blood oxygen levels. You also get upgraded heart sensors that allow continuous tracking. The watch also has a minute speaker which allows users to make or receive calls and also play music. The watch runs on WearOS 2 but is eligible for an upgrade to WearOS 3 in 2022.

As for the availability, the Fossil Gen 6 will be up for pre-orders in India via Fossil.in and Amazon. The wearable device will go on sale from September 27.

After announcing the Gen 5 in 2019, Fossil has announced its successor today which is dubbed the Gen 6. The new smartwatch brings key upgrades including a more powerful processor but doesn’t ship with the latest version of Wear OS.

The Fossil Gen 6’s main upgrade is the new Snapdragon Wear 4100+, one of two chipsets Qualcomm announced last year for smartwatches. The smartwatch is the first to feature this new chip. Fossil says that the new processor brings a performance improvement of up to 30% when compared to the Gen 5. Users should see faster app load times and reduced power consumption.

Another new feature is the addition of a blood oxygen level monitor (SpO2 sensor). The watch also has a 24-hour heart rate that provides continuous heart rate monitoring. Fossil claims the sensor has been improved and it works better in more situations.

The Fossil Gen 6 has Google Assistant built-in, so with the “Ok Google” wake word, you can ask questions, control smart home devices, and set reminders. There is also support for Google Pay, music playback control, and the ability to make and receive calls when connected to a smartphone. Unfortunately, the smartwatch runs the older Wear OS 2 out of the box. If you don’t mind waiting until next year, you will get the Wear OS 3 update.

Samsung already launched the Galaxy A52s 5G in some markets this month and now it is ready to unveil it in India come Wednesday, September 1. The Korean giant confirmed the launch date earlier today via its social media channels. The launch is scheduled to begin at 12 PM (IST).

Redmi 10 Prime – September 3

Fossil for a long time was expected to launch its upcoming Gen 6 smartwatch succeeding 2019’s Fossil Gen 5. Today, the company has officially revealed the launch date of the upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch and has teased the watch’s features.

According to a landing page from Fossil’s official website, the Fossil Gen 6 will launch in two days i.e. on August 30. The company has also started sending media invites for the launch event and has also posted a teaser video. The teaser gives us a glimpse of its design.

It shows the bottom and right side of the smartwatch confirming that it has a solid built with a matte finish over the dial. It has a heart-rate monitor at the rear and boasts three buttons on the right side.

Moreover, the teaser video shows a fast-charging branding at the end of the video hinting at fast charging support. Reportedly, the upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch will have other key features like the SpO2 sensor and built-in GPS connectivity.

The current Fossil Gen 5 has a 1.28-inch with an AMOLED panel. It features a 316 x 416 pixels resolution and 328 PPI. The LTE variant of the smartwatch comes with a 4G connectivity and has NFC, GPS support. The device has 5-meter water resistance and supports magnetic charging technology.

If you own a Fossil Gen Watch and are hoping it will get updated to Wear – the new operating system borne from the merger of Google’s Wear OS and Samsung’s Tizen, then there is bad news for you.

The company granted an interview to CNET where it revealed that it has no plans for upgrading the software on its current version of smartwatches to the new operating system. Folks who want a Fossil watch with all the bells and whistles of the new OS will have to look to the Fossil Gen 6 watch coming later this year.

Greg McKelvey and Steve Prokup, Fossil’s chief commercial officer and vice president of connected devices respectively, disclosed in the interview that the Gen 6 smartwatch will boast “all of the software benefits that Google’s talking about and launching with the unified platform…”.

The smartwatch will also feature hardware upgrades too that will bring faster performance, better battery life, and advanced health features reports CNET. With respect to design, Fossil didn’t reveal key details about that but it said that its watches will continue to feature a variety of designs that include buttons and crowns. The screen will also remain a major way to interact with the watch with buttons and crowns providing secondary input and acting as shortcuts.

The new Fossil Gen 6 watch will not be cheap. The premium features will also attract a premium price tag, positioning it as a competitor to Apple’s next-gen watch and as alternatives to watches from Google and Samsung.

It was also revealed in the interview that its hybrid watches may evolve in the future “as experimental models for other wearables”. The manufacturer also plans to integrate Fitbit into its product and believes its customers will love it.

Fossil, the well-known watchmaker has also launched a smartwatch and the latest product from the company is Fossil Gen 5 which was announced over a year ago. Now, the company is set to launch its successor.

The upcoming Fossil Gen 6 smartwatch has been spotted on the FCC website with model number C1NF1, reports GoAndroid. This is the same device that appeared on Bluetooth SIG along with the DW11 smartwatch earlier this year.

The FCC listing of this next-generation Fossil watch also revealed that the product will come with support for LTE connectivity. Along with that, it also features support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC.

Further, the device seems to be powered by an APP00310 battery that has 2.85Vdc and 0.4Ah power rating. The battery is revealed to have been built by a Taiwan-based battery manufacturer – APack Technology Co., LTD.
