<p>Now, details about the front-facing camera of the Apple <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/apple-iphone-14">iPhone 14 series</a> models have leaked online as analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed what improvements will be made to the front camera of the devices.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-437140 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders.jpeg?x10805" alt="Apple iPhone 14 Pro Render" width="3642" height="2234" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders.jpeg 3642w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-300x184.jpeg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-768x471.jpeg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-1024x628.jpeg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-696x427.jpeg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-1068x655.jpeg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-685x420.jpeg 685w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/iPhone-14-Pro-Renders-1920x1178.jpeg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 3642px) 100vw, 3642px" /></p>
<p>As <a href="https://twitter.com/mingchikuo/status/1516420597861003274">per the new report</a>, all four models &#8212; iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max will have an upgraded front-facing camera sensor with f/1.9 aperture and support for autofocus.</p>
<p>In comparison, all the models in the current-generation Apple iPhone 13 series come with a front-facing <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/camera">camera sensor</a> having an f/2.2 aperture and fixed focus.</p>
<p>With a wider aperture, the smartphones will be able to capture more light. It is also said that the camera upgrades will result in an improved depth-of-field effect for the Portrait Mode photos and videos. On the other hand, the autofocus support for the front camera will enhance the focus during FaceTime calls or video calls using third-party apps.</p>
<p>The Apple iPhone 14 Pro and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/apple-iphone-14-pro-max/">14 Pro Max</a> are also expected to come with an upgraded rear camera configuration and possibly feature a 48-megapixel wide lens as the primary sensor with support for 8K video recording. This is expected to result in a thicker camera bump for the smartphones, as revealed in the recently leaked renders.</p>
<p>If the reports are to be believed, then there will be a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/03/14/apple-iphone-14-pro-specs-difference-rumors/">significant difference between the Pro and non-Pro models</a> this year. The iPhone 14 and 14 Pro are expected to be powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which is said to be a slightly improved version of the A15 Bionic while the Pro models will be powered by the Apple A16 Pro processor.</p>

The teaser image shared offered us a small glimpse of the notebook, which is confirmed to feature a webcam on the front.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class=" wp-image-367689 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/20210126_101930_225.jpg?x10805" alt="Xiaomi" width="470" height="626" /></p>
<p>For those unaware, back in 2020, the Chinese tech giant had launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmibook-14/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">RedmiBook 14</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/redmibook-16/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">RedmiBook 16</a> laptops. These notebooks did not feature a front facing camera, which had led to quite a number of its prospective buyers being disappointed. While buying an external camera might offer better clarity, but it does incur an additional cost to the user. But now, it seems like Xiaomi has listened to its customers and has included the webcam again in its laptop offering.</p>
<p>Looking at the promotional image, we can observe that the front camera will be housed on the top, as is the case with most laptops. So, we can expect to see it on the top bezel region. Talking about the specifications of the laptop itself, the company&#8217;s previous teases had pointed at the laptop featuring an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/11th-gen-intel-processor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Intel 11th Gen Tiger Lake series</a> processor, with a display that features 2K resolution.</p>

<p>For storage, Xiaomi is said to offer an NVMe solid state hard drive, along with a Type C port, which supports PD protocol charging as well. Furthermore, other features include fingerprint scanning for biometric security, backlight keyboards, and a new metallic body. Unfortunately, that is all we have to go on at the moment, so stay tuned for more as we will be providing updates when additional information is available.</p>

<p>On the camera front, the company had then informed us about a dual rear camera but as you can see in the video and photos, it has been upgraded to a triple rear camera. The rest of the info talk about an 8MP selfie while the battery will probably have 3900mAh capacity. It is expected to hit the market in August so we expect more details to surface soon. The technology is still being developed by a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/03/xiaomi-shares-video-under-display-selfie-camera-looks-great/">number of smartphone manufacturers</a> in the market right now, including OPPO. In fact, OPPO revealed its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/03/oppo-under-display-camera-technology/">under screen camera prototype a few days back</a>. While we saw the real phone in action, we didn&#8217;t get any specific details about the technology. Today, OPPO&#8217;s R&amp;D team engineer sheds some more details about the development of this next-gen technology.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">For those seeking the perfect, notchless smartphone screen experience – prepare to be amazed. <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f4f2.png" alt="📲" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>
<p>You are taking a very first look at our under-display selfie camera technology. RT! <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f92f.png" alt="🤯" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://t.co/FrqB6RiJaY">pic.twitter.com/FrqB6RiJaY</a></p>
<p>&mdash; OPPO (@oppo) <a href="https://twitter.com/oppo/status/1135393369113280512?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 3, 2019</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>According to an engineer working for OPPO, the company started studying under-screen cameras as early as 2017. To recall, the industry&#8217;s obsession with full-screen displays really kick-started after the launch of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2016/10/25/xiaomi-reveals-concept-phone-mix-6-4-inch-pure-display-experience-91-1-screen-proportion/">Xiaomi Mi Mix around late 2016</a>. There have been multiple solutions for a truly bezel-less smartphone since then, with the recent emergence <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/24/oppo-k3-hands-on-pictures-stunning-beauty-pop-up-selfie-cam-and-its-not-even-a-flagship/">of pop-up front cameras</a>. But it&#8217;s clear that under-screen cameras are the future of smartphones. And it&#8217;s only a matter of time until we see a commercial device sporting this technology.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><div class="su-note" style="border-color:#e5e5e5;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"><div class="su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim" style="background-color:#ffffff;border-color:#ffffff;color:#333333;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;"></span><b>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/09/qualcomm-backs-sifive-open-source-alternative-to-arm/">Qualcomm Backs ARM&#8217;s Competitor!</a></b><span style="font-weight: 400;"></div></div></span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">OPPO&#8217;s</a> engineer reveals that the biggest challenge in implementing this technology is that no one has actually managed to successfully do it yet. He compares its development to crossing a river by just feeling the stones under it as there are numerous difficulties associated with bringing it to a commercial smartphone.</p>
<p><img class="aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/oppo-under-display-camera.jpeg?x10805" alt="Oppo Under-Display Camera" /></p>
<p>The under-screen camera has to work with other hardware flawlessly and algorithms are needed to perfect the camera experience. But if implemented properly, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/under-screen">under-screen</a> cameras will perfect the smartphone screen experience. The engineer adds that it doesn&#8217;t add any weight to the body and even the display area above the camera functions perfectly. So, there&#8217;s no need for any ugly notches or moving parts to bring a truly full-screen experience.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, it looks like it will still take some time before someone manages to perfect the technology. We know companies like OPPO, Xiaomi, and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/03/honors-in-display-camera-prototype-experiencing-problems-reveals-zhao-ming/">Honor</a> are working on a prototype, but what they revealed last week was just a proof of development. It&#8217;s similar to how Xiaomi demoed the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/04/17/xiaomi-working-hard-for-100w-super-charge-turbo-technology-mass-production-claims-xiaomi-president/">100W fast charging technology earlier this year</a>. It&#8217;s still in development and a commercial release is at least a few months away.</p>
<p>So for now, it looks like companies will focus on tweaking existing pop-up camera solutions similar to what we saw in the<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/06/07/asus-zenfone-6-goes-official-in-taiwan-for-nt-17990-575/"> Zenfone 6.</a></p>
