Tesla has commenced the rollout of its FSD (Full Self-Driving) v12.5.1 update to select vehicles. This latest iteration promises big improvements, including the integration of urban and highway driving capabilities, previously separate functions.

Tesla’s Cybertruck will be the first model to receive the new update.

The update, bundled with software version 2024.20.15, marks a milestone in Tesla’s autonomous driving development. Key features of the v12.5.1 update include earlier and more natural lane changes, enhanced driver monitoring, and expanded compatibility, with the Cybertruck being the first model to receive the FSD feature.

Elon Musk has previously expressed optimism about the v12.5.x updates, highlighting expected reductions in driver interventions per mile. Additionally, the upcoming “Actual Smart Summon” feature will be introduced in this version, operating independently of the core FSD system.

While the initial rollout is focused on Model Y vehicles equipped with HW4 hardware, Tesla plans to expand FSD v12.5 compatibility to other models in the future.

Self-driving vehicles have been a part of our lives for some time now and their popularity continues to grow. However, as their usage increases, so does the number of incidents involving them. A recent study by J.D. Power found that consumer confidence in fully automated, self-driving vehicles has declined for the second consecutive year. On a scale of 100, trust points went down by 2 points to 37 this year, after already dropping by 5 points last year. The report says people are not ready for self-driving cars in many ways.

They feel least comfortable riding in one or using self-driving buses and trains. Despite the decline in consumer confidence, the study also found that consumers are more open to self-driving cars if they have had experience riding in one. For example, 67% of respondents who had ridden in a robotaxi expressed confidence in the technology.

Of course, this fear won’t change anything. Autonomous-driving vehicles are already reaching more users every day, and it doesn’t seem like users’ fears will alter this trend. Admittedly, this technology isn’t perfect today, which explains why people might feel this way. However, it’s worth noting that self-driving is a relatively new technology. There’s still much room for improvement, and regardless, the future belongs to autonomous technologies.

In a surprising move during the Q2 2023 earnings call on July 19, Tesla‘s CEO, Elon Musk, announced a development that has left car owners and EV enthusiasts thrilled. For the first time ever, Tesla is allowing owners to transfer ownership of its coveted Full Self-Driving Beta (FSD Beta) – a decision that could have a significant impact on how this cutting-edge technology is accessed and utilized in the near future.

The Full Self Driving package is priced at $15,000 in the United States

Tesla’s offer allows existing owners to transfer their FSD Beta to a new Tesla vehicle during the third quarter, which runs until the end of September. This exciting development aims to incentivize current Tesla owners to upgrade to the latest models without the burden of repurchasing the costly FSD package, priced at $15,000 in the US or available as a monthly subscription at $199 for Basic Autopilot and $99 for Enhanced Autopilot-equipped cars.

The terms and conditions for the FSD Beta transfer program have been laid out for eligibility. To qualify, owners must have Full Self-Driving capability in their current Tesla vehicle at the time of delivery of their new vehicle. Furthermore, this offer is only applicable to new Tesla vehicles delivered between July 20 and September 30, 2023.

For those eager to take advantage of the offer, they must either forfeit the FSD capability on their current Tesla or choose to trade in their vehicle directly with Tesla when purchasing a new one. Tesla will then remove the FSD capability from the original vehicle up to one week before the scheduled delivery of the new Tesla, with a short automatic reboot during the process.

It’s essential to note that this transfer can only occur once and cannot be transferred to another vehicle or another individual, even through private sale. Additionally, the offer cannot be combined with other promotions and becomes non-reversible once the new Tesla vehicle is delivered or the FSD capability is removed from the existing vehicle, whichever comes first.

Tesla launches Full Self-Driving subscription package that costs $199 per month

Tesla, one of the leading electric car manufacturers, has officially launched its Full Self-Driving (FSD) subscription which costs $199 per month. Those who previously bought the Enhanced Autopilot package will get it for $99 as the package is now discontinued.

The company is currently selling the Full Self-Driving package for a one-time payment of $10,000 but those who don’t want to pay such a large sum of money upfront can now opt for the monthly subscription plan.

The Full Self-Driving package currently includes several automated driver-assist features, including Navigate on Autopilot, Auto Lane Change, Autopark, Summon, Full Self-Driving Computer, and Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control.

Tesla notes that FSD is not the same as fully driverless technology, and adds that “the currently enabled features require active driver supervision and do not make the vehicle autonomous.” Ultimately, the company hopes to deliver a true full self-driving system but people buying the package can only hope and wait for Tesla to achieve that goal.

It’s noteworthy that the new subscription plan requires version 3.0 of the FSD hardware, and upgrading to that will cost $1,500. That hardware — containing a new, more powerful chip — has been standard in Tesla cars since mid-2019.
