Vivo Nex 3 5G was launched in September of 2019 with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC paired with Snapdragon X50 5G modem. The phone came with Functouch OS 9 based on Android Pie out of the box. But now, it is finally receiving stable Android 10-based Funtouch OS 10 update.

The Chinese smartphone maker started beta testing Android 10 on Vivo Nex 3 5G last month. Now, within a month, the company has started rolling out stable Funtouch OS 10 update for all the regular users of the phone.

Vivo announced Functouch OS 10 in December and even revealed the list of eligible devices for the update. The Nex 3 5G is one of the devices in the first batch to receive the update. As promised, the company is finally delivering a stable update to all the units of the device.

Anyway, just like any other OTA update, it is being rolled out in a phased manner. Hence, it might take time to reach every unit of the Nex 3 5G. Also, do note that this update is only being seeded out to the devices with model number V1924A.

The Functouch OS 10 stable update based on Android 10 for the Vivo Nex 3 5G bumps up the build version to 6.10.1 with March 2020 security patch.

Vivo, which planned to launch its new JoviOS custom user interface for the company’s smartphones dropped the plan and instead launched a new version of its existing FunTouch custom UI, dubbed FunTouch OS 10.

Now, Xiao Zhuge, Project Manager for the Vivo FunTouch OS has revealed that the team is currently working on a new weather-related feature for the custom operating system — Earthquake Warning.

He has also revealed that the feature, which is currently under development, will undergo internal testing at the company in a couple of weeks. This hints that the official rollout of the said feature isn’t very far away and could be rolled out soon if the internal testing gets passed successfully. However, no specific date for the rollout of this ‘Earthquake Warning’ feature has been revealed yet.

Further, he added that the FunTouch OS 10 introduces positioning areas which can provide forecast every minute for the next two hours and with the “distant love” feature, it can display the time and weather of two different places at the same time.

This new feature from Vivo is similar to the Earthquake Warning feature that Xiaomi rolled out with its latest MIUI 11 custom user interface. Xiaomi had said that the smartphones running MIUI 11 and even Mi TVs could be notified “seconds to tens of seconds” before the earthquake hits the place.

The idea is to give users a few seconds of head-start in order to better protect themselves before the actual earthquake. Also, the alert could also provide information about the nearest emergency shelter, emergency contact details, medical contacts, and the rescue information to help in a critical situation.

The latest FunTouch OS 10 from Vivo comes with a minimal user interface and is based on the concept of “Original Design”. Apart from offering minimal UI, the company has also added new desktop icons. There’s a new off-screen clock and Vivo has added new live wallpapers too. It also brings changes to Jovi virtual assistant which can now provide users with a variety of thoughtful services, help users manage their smart devices, and more.

A few weeks ago, the product manager for Funtouch OS shared a font design image with the words “Jovi OS”. Originally believed to be a teaser for a new OS, it turned out to be a rebranding for FunTouch OS. Then it got canceled, and today we saw Vivo launch the latest version of FunTouch OS, that being FunTouch OS 10, at the Vivo X30 launch conference.

Now, while the Vivo X30 will come with FunTouch OS 10 by default, users of other devices will need to wait for an update. Thankfully, Vivo have also announced an update roadmap, with three batches of updates coming. Updates begin in February 2020 which isn’t too long from now, and they cover a decent amount of devices.
