Vivo has been doing good work lately with software rollouts. In fact, last year, it released the Android 15 update well before other brands, even before Google released it to their Pixel devices. That was surprising. Vivo users may be expecting a quicker rollout this year, too, and the good news is that the brand is already working on it.

The Android 16 update for Vivo phones will come with Funtouch OS 16 skin on top, which will likely bring a host of new features and improvements. The update will soon start rolling out to Vivo phones. Unfortunately, for some devices, Android 16 will be the end of the road. In other words, these Vivo phones will spend the rest of their lives running Android 16.

We’ve prepared a list of Vivo phones that will receive Android 16 (with Funtouch OS 16) as their final major upgrade. Review the list to find out if you’ll need to upgrade sometime next year.

Vivo phones getting Android 16 as their last major upgrade

Vivo has not officially confirmed the list. So, this is based on the current update policy and a little bit of guesswork.

Vivo X90, X90 Pro, X90 Pro+, X90s

Vivo V40, V40e, V40 Pro, V40 Lite, V40 SE

Vivo V30, V30e, V30 Pro, V30 SE, V30 Lite 4G

Vivo T3, T3 Pro, T3 Ultra, T3 Lite, T3x

Vivo Y300, Y300 Plus, Y300 Pro

Vivo Y200 4G, Y200e, Y200 Pro, Y200+, Y200 GT, Y200i, Y200t

Vivo Y100 4G

Vivo Y39

Vivo Y29 4G, Y29s

Vivo Y19

iQOO 11, 11 Pro

iQOO 11 Pro

iQOO Z9, Z9x, Z9 Lite, Z9s, Z9s Pro

While this list will be mostly accurate, I still recommend double-checking with the official announcements next year for the final confirmation.

If your device is on the list, expect no major upgrades beyond Android 16. However, the device will continue to receive security updates for a while. To keep receiving new features and the latest enhancements, you may need to upgrade to a newer model next year.

What does Vivo’s software update policy look like?

While the brand has been pretty consistent with software rollouts, its update policy is a bit of a mess. Vivo phones lack a transparent software update policy, particularly for mid-range and cheaper models. This means no certainty about future OS updates.

Premium models, however, get a nice treat — faster updates and extended software support. Take the X200 series, for example: it promises four OS updates. Previously, flagship devices were limited to 3 OS updates. Several iQOO models, such as the iQOO 13 and iQOO 12 series, have also been promised the same extended software support.

The Vivo V50 series also received an additional OS update, previously limited to just two. Meanwhile, the Vivo T and Y series phones usually get just two. The iQOO Z series follows the same trend, but recent Neo models now receive up to three major updates.

While Vivo is gradually improving its update policy, it still falls short compared to industry leaders like Google and Samsung. Both these companies now offer up to seven years of updates on premium models. More importantly, they have a transparent update policy for every phone.

On the plus side, Vivo is a reliable brand when it comes to software updates, and it has recently started offering extended software support on various models. However, there’s still a big room for improvement — especially when it comes to transparency and consistency for lower-tier models. Hopefully, things will continue to improve over time across all price segments.

Google usually releases a new version of Android around October, but this year, Android 16 has arrived a lot earlier in June. That’s an early treat for Google Pixel users, and this also means your Vivo phone should receive Android 16 faster than usual.

Vivo has been working on Android 16 for months now. It was also part of the Android 16 beta partners list and started offering early access to the software in May. It should be preparing for a stable release very soon. Here, we have compiled every bit of information about the Android 16 upgrade for your Vivo device.

Vivo Android 16 (Funtouch OS 16) release date

Vivo hasn’t announced a release date or rollout timeline for Funtouch OS 16, which will be based on Android 16. However, if past releases are anything to go by, it shouldn’t be more than a few weeks down the line.

Last year, Vivo was the quickest brand to release the Android 16 update to its devices. What’s more surprising was that it released the update even before Google. The Android maker regained its spot this year, but Vivo shouldn’t be a lot behind.

The Chinese brand has already released Android 16 beta for some devices, including the Vivo X200 Pro and iQOO 13. There’ll also be a Funtouch OS 16 beta program before the stable rollout, which will give us a better look at the new features and upgrades.

While we don’t the official roadmap yet, the Android 16 rollout will likely begin with recent high-end phones from Vivo’s X and iQOO’s number series, followed by mid-range lineups, such as Vivo’s V series, T series, and iQOO’s Neo series, and then gradually making its way to the more affordable phones.

Which Vivo devices will get Android 16 and Funtouch OS 16 update?

Vivo hasn’t announced which devices will be upgraded to Android 16-based Funtouch OS 16. So, we had to rely on the software update policy and a little bit of guesswork to prepare the following list.

Vivo devices

Vivo X series

Vivo X Fold 5

Vivo X Fold 3 Pro

Vivo X200, X200 Pro, X200 Ultra, X200 FE, X200 Pro mini, X200s

Vivo X100, X100 Pro, X100 Ultra, X100s, X100s Pro

Vivo X90, X90 Pro, X90 Pro+, X90s

Vivo V series

Vivo V50, V50e, V50 Lite (LTE/5G)

Vivo V40, V40 Lite, V40 Pro, V40e, V40 SE

Vivo V30, V30 Lite 4G, V30 Pro, V30e, V30 SE

Vivo T series

Vivo Y series

Vivo Y400 Pro

Vivo Y300, Y300 Plus, Y300 Pro, Y300 Pro+, Y300 GT, Y300t, Y300i

Vivo Y200 4G, Y200+, Y200 Pro, Y200e, Y200 GT, Y200i, Y200t

Vivo Y39

Vivo Y29 4G, Y29s

Vivo Y19, Y19s Pro

Vivo Pad series

Vivo Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro

Vivo Pad SE

Vivo Pad 3, Pad 3 Pro

iQOO devices

iQOO number series

iQOO 13

iQOO 12, 12 Pro

iQOO 11, 11 Pro, 11s

iQOO Z series

iQOO Z10, Z10x, Z10R, Z10 Lite, Z10 Turbo, Z10 Turbo Pro

iQOO Z9, Z9 Lite, Z9x, Z9s, Z9s Pro, Z9 Turbo, Z9 Turbo+, Z9 Turbo Endurance

iQOO Neo 10, Neo 10 Pro, Neo 10 Pro+, Neo 10R

iQOO Neo 9, Neo 9 Pro, Neo 9S Pro, Neo 9S Pro+

iQOO Pad series

iQOO Pad 5, Pad 5 Pro

iQOO Pad 2, Pad 2 Pro

Please note that this isn’t the final list. We still recommend checking out the official list for the final confirmation. We’ll also update this list as soon as an official announcement is made.

What to expect from Android 16 and Funtouch OS 16?

Google has added numerous features and enhancements to Android 16. Oppo will likely integrate most of them with its own custom touches. One of the standout additions is Android Protection, an array of security features that’s designed to protect users from online attacks, harmful apps, unsafe websites, scam calls, and other online threats.

The Android 16 upgrade could also bring Live Updates, which is nothing but Google’s version of iPhone’s Live Activities. This feature supports ride-sharing and food delivery apps. It shows the information on the lock screen and in the notification panel. A deeper integration with support for always-on display and floating window could come as a part of the next release.

Additionally, the update could bring the Notification Cooldown feature that lowers the volume and minimizes alerts when you receive multiple notifications from the same app in quick succession. For tablets and large-screen devices, there will be a new Desktop Windowing feature that offers a desktop-like multitasking experience, allowing users to open, group, and resize multiple app windows.

We’re also expecting new AI tools and upgrades to the existing AI features. On top of that, Funtouch OS 16 could offer new features, visual tweaks, more customizations, new widgets, and new clock styles. We’ll have a better look at the upcoming features and upgrades once the Funtouch OS 16 beta goes live.

The stable version of Android 16 just went live for Google Pixels, and it should soon start rolling out to devices from other brands. Vivo is also preparing for the stable rollout. It’s usually quicker with software rollouts and often among the first brands to release the stable version of the latest Android OS.

While the Chinese brand hasn’t announced a release date yet, we expect the rollout might kick off as early as next month, as Vivo usually doesn’t take too long once Google releases the newest OS. With the Android 16-based Funtouch OS 16 release drawing near, you might be wondering if your Vivo or iQOO device will get the update. Take a look at the list of eligible devices below and see if yours has made the cut.

These Vivo/iQOO won’t get Android 16 (Funtouch OS 16) update

Vivo hasn’t announced which devices will be upgraded to Android 16 yet. Therefore, we had to use the current software update policy and a little bit of guesswork to prepare the following list.

Vivo devices

Vivo X series

Vivo X80

Vivo X80 Pro

Vivo X80 Lite

Older X-series models

Vivo V series

Vivo V30 Lite 5G

Vivo V29

Vivo V29e

Vivo V29 Pro

Vivo V29 Lite

Older V-series models

Vivo T series

Vivo T2

Vivo T2 Pro

Vivo T2x

Older T-series models

Vivo Y series

Vivo Y200

Vivo Y100 5G

Vivo Y100i

Vivo Y100t

Older Y-series models

iQOO devices

iQOO flagship devices

iQOO 10

iQOO 10 Pro

Older iQOO flagships

iQOO Z series

iQOO Z8

iQOO Z8x

iQOO Z7

iQOO Z7 Pro

iQOO Z7x

iQOO Z7s

iQOO Z7i

Older Z-series models

iQOO Neo series

iQOO Neo 8

iQOO Neo 8 Pro

Older Neo-series models

If your Vivo device is on the list, it will most likely be upgraded to Android 16 when the update starts to roll out. Those missing from the list should wait until the official list is out, as Vivo hasn’t revealed the update policy for many devices, particularly mid-range phones.

Vivo’s software update policy

Vivo offers a decent update policy for its devices — neither too good nor too bad. It promises four years of Android updates to expensive models like the Vivo X200, while the older flagship models are limited to just three. The high-end iQOO smartphones, such as the iQOO 12 and iQOO 13, also get the same treatment.

Moving to the mid-range segment, the recent V-series models, such as the Vivo V40 and V50, promise three Android updates. Older models typically receive only two major upgrades. The cheaper Vivo Y-series and T-series models get up to OS updates.

The recent iQOO Neo models, such as the Neo 10, come with a promise of three Android updates, while the Z-series models only get two.

That’s what the current software update policy from Vivo looks like. It’s better than before, but not the best. At the top are Samsung and Google with up to seven Android updates. Obviously, that’s reserved for high-end phones, but even the recent mid-range Samsung phones receive as many as six OS updates.

Vivo does offer good update support to its premium and newer models, but there’s still a big room for improvement — especially when it comes to transparency and consistency for lower-tier models.
