In line with that development, it seems that charging a smartphone from across the device could also be possible.

Scientists have developed a new device named “anti-laser” which is claimed to be able to perfectly beam energy across any room. This invisible beam energy can power a phone or laptop across the room without plugging it in.

EDITOR’S PICK: DxOMark Speaker: Google Nest Audio smart speaker scores 112; Yamaha MusicCast 50 scores 136

Similar to how a laser emits light particles or photons one after another in an orderly row, this new anti-laser device works exactly the opposite of that. It sucks up photons one after another in reverse order.

In a demonstration of this technology, scientists showcased anti-lasers receivers being able to receive around 99.996 percent of the sent power, even during situations like electronics moving around, objects getting in the way, and more.

The method, which is being termed as Coherent Perfect Absorption (CPA), uses one machine to send power and another to receive it. However, there’s one major limitation to this. It requires time-reversal symmetry which only happens in systems without much entropy. This new CPA method used magnetic fields to jostle photos so aggressively that the time-reversal symmetry was lost.

Also, the Chinese rugged phone manufacturer Ulefone revealed that they will be bringing 5G to rugged phones in 2020 using MediaTek’s new SoC.

This year was the year that the commercial use of 5G kicked off and operators in many countries around the world are beginning to upgrade their infrastructure to move to the future of wireless communications. Also, many smartphone manufacturers began launching 5G-capable smartphones. The lead on 5G smartphones is currently taken by Samsung’s Note 10 Series and Huawei’s Mate 30 Series but there is no 5G rugged smartphone on the market. Ulefone had already announced the Armor 6 5G version but was canceled as the MediaTek M70 5G modem didn’t make it to the market.

The just-announced Dimensity 1000 is the 3rd 5G SoC on the market and is manufactured with TSMC’s 7nm production process. It comes with the latest ARM Cortex-A77 cores operating at up to 2.6 GHz and -according to the company- the overall performance is even faster than Huawei’s new Kirin 990. The GPU used is Mali G77 and supports FHD+ displays up to 120Hz and 2K+ displays up to 90Hz.

As for the networks supported, Dimensity 1000 supports NSA/SA 5G networks and 5G two carrier aggregation (2CC CA), the downlink/uplink speeds are up to 4.7Gbps/2.5Gbps over sub-6GHz networks, 2 times higher than Kirin 990 SoC. Demensity 1000 is also the world’s first 5G flagship chipset which supports dual 5G SIM/dual standby, and it also integrates the latest Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1+ standards!

Also, coming with the world’s 1st five-core image signal processor (ISP), Dimensity 1000 supports 80MP cameras sensors at 24fps and a range of multi-camera options such as 32+16MP dual cameras. The rest of Ulefone’s new device specs are yet to be revealed. After all, it is too soon but judging from the company’s previous record in rugged phones, we believe that the upcoming 5G rugged phone will bring consumers an unprecedented rugged 5G experience.

Ulefone Future recently went for sale via flash sale method for $199.99. The highlight feature of the phone is the bezel-less 5.5-inch display on board. However, the phone is known for yet another unique feature, its side mounted fingerprint sensor. Today, the company decided to demonstrate the performance of Future’s fingerprint sensor. The placement of the scanner is ideal for many, near the power button. So, it’s easy to reach out and unlock the device whenever you need. You can check out the video from down below.

So, Ulefone admits that the fingerprint sensor on the Future isn’t the fastest one in the market, mainly because of the small surface area available. Since the available area is small, the sensor takes slightly more time to recognize the user’s fingerprint as compared to rivals. But the company adds that this is the latest generation sensor in the market, which means it is highly responsive.

Now that the flash sale is officially over, the Ulefone Future is available for pre-sale via a number of retailers for $239.99. You get seven different accessories bundled with the phone at this price. You can check out more details of the pre-sale of the device from here.

To recap, the Ulefone Future comes with a 2GHz octa-core Helio P10 processor with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There will be a 3000mAh battery on board which charges within an hour, with stock Android 6.0 experience. At the back, the phone features a 16MP Samsung S5K3P3 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, PDAF and dual tone LED flash. Up front, you get a 5MP selfie camera. Other features of the phone include USB Type-C, LTE etc.

You can read more about the phone from the company’s official website.
