The news arrives from a Counterpoint Research report. Looking at the chart, we can see that the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A series is its most popular lineup of handsets. In other words, the A series accounts for a majority of the company’s sales since other lineups like the flagship Galaxy S series, the mid level Galaxy M series, and other combined account for just 58 percent overall.

Back in 2021, the Galaxy A series was responsibly for nearly two thirds of Samsung smartphones being sold. Furthermore, the Galaxy A series also saw great success across the globe in diverse nations ranging from North America, Western and Eastern Europe, and even across the LATAM (Latin American) and MEA (Middle East Africa) regions as well. Now, the brand is also gearing up for two new models that will be launched within the A series.

This includes the Galaxy A53 5G and the A73 5G. The two upcoming smartphones will be placed within the upper mid range segment. However, the A73 5G in particular will even compete with some of the other affordable level flagship devices. Most of these are primary sold by Samsung’s Chinese rivals, like Xiaomi, Redmi, Oppo, and others.

One of the more affordable offerings from the bunch is the Galaxy A33 5G which will succeed last year’s Galaxy A32. The 5G phone made an appearance on Indonesia’s SDPPI certification website only a couple of weeks back but has now also appeared on Google Play Console, hinting at an imminent launch.

However, a new report has suggested that some of these models might be suffering from a mysterious bug.

Apparently, a number of users of certain Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of handsets have claimed that these smartphones suffer from a peculiar issue that causes their devices to freeze up and restart automatically. According to SamMobile, owners of the Galaxy M30s, Galaxy M31, Galaxy M31s, Galaxy A50, Galaxy A50s, and Galaxy A51 smartphones in India have recently come forward about suffering from this issue.

As per the Galaxy A and M users, their handsets tend to freeze up and hang often. Furthermore, the devices are also plagued by frequent auto restarts as well. These issues are a major nuisance to the users who also claimed that their devices have also gotten stuck in a boot loop before and don’t go past the South Korean tech giant’s logo at the startup. Notably, some users that went to Samsung service centers have reportedly been told that they might need to have the motherboards of their smartphones replaced.

This would cost them over 100 US Dollars. The Galaxy M and Galaxy A series are usually known for their mid range smartphones, which is quite popular in India. So it is understandable that not many would go through with the motherboard replacement for that hefty price of repairs that could just be an underlying issue not discovered by the company yet. Hopefully, the brand can acknowledge this issue that could be affecting a number of other customers and offers a fix, or at least, a free of cost repair.

While the automakers were the first to be heavily impacted, now consumer electronics companies are also facing the heat.

Samsung, the world’s leading smartphone manufacturers, is reportedly facing production problems for its Galaxy A series of phones. As per the report coming from Korea, the company is facing issues with procuring Application Processors (AP).

The issue is especially for the Galaxy A52, Galaxy A52 5G, and Galaxy A72 smartphones that were first unveiled by the South Korean giant in March this year. While these phones are launched in some European countries, only the Galaxy A52 5G is available in the US.

The smartphones facing issues are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G and Snapdragon 750G processors, manufactured by Samsung Foundry using the 8-nanometer Low Power Plus (LPP) process.

A report cites a person aware of the matter who works at a company that is a supplier to Samsung. Further, the report adds that the delayed production of Galaxy A-series phones is worrying other component suppliers over delayed revenues.

Qualcomm CEO-elect Cristiano Amon had said a couple of months ago that the chip shortage is expected to continue up to the end of this year. Samsung CEO for IT & Mobile Communication Business, DJ Koh had wanted about the serious imbalance in supply and demand of chips.

For years, Samsung had been long known for updating its Android devices slower than other OEMs. With strong criticisms, the company improved its mobile software by a long shot. At present, One UI is arguably one of the best Android skins out there.

That said, at the Galaxy Note20 series launch event, Samsung surprised everyone by extending Android OS upgrade by one more year for its flagships. It even opened registrations for One UI 3 (Android 11) Developer Beta for Galaxy S20 series much earlier than One UI 2.0 last year.

What’s more interesting is Samsung’s inclusion of its mid-range Galaxy A series for three Android updates. It was merely speculation last week but now, the South Korean tech giant breaks the ice by officially releasing the list of Galaxy devices eligible for three (3) generations of Android updates.

Samsung has always been terrible at providing quicker Android updates. But thankfully, that began to change with the release of One UI. For this year’s Android 11, the company has already opened registrations for One UI 3.0 Developer Beta.

In addition to this, the South Korean tech giant surprised everyone by confirming three generations of Android updates to its flagship offerings. A week later more surprises emerge as the certain handsets of the firm’s mid-range Galaxy A series may also enjoy this benefit

This piece of information comes from a customer service executive when a person asked whether their Galaxy A90 will get three Android updates. To this, he replied that high-end Galaxy A series of phones and tablet products released after Galaxy S10 series are under additional review.

Further, he added that the company will announce the OS upgrade policies for these devices after checking hardware specifications and resources. Until then, he askes customers to stay tuned to the announcement on the Samsung Members app and official channels.

We hope Samsung to provide update benefits to Galaxy A series as well.
A few weeks ago, Samsung applied for trademarks for 9 new Galaxy A smartphones which will launch next year. Today, the camera specs for 8 of those phones have leaked, way ahead of their release dates.

The source of the leak is Sudhanshu Ambhore @Sudhanshu1414. He had previously teased that he had info about eight new devices scheduled for launch next year before tweeting the details today.

The phones are the Galaxy A21, Galaxy A31, Galaxy A41, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A61, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A81, and Galaxy A91.

Galaxy A51

Samsung will switch to quad rear cameras for the Galaxy A51. The main camera will be a 32MP sensor paired with a 12MP ultrawide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom and a 5MP depth sensor.

Galaxy A61

The Galaxy A60’s successor will also get the quad-rear camera treatment. There is a 48MP main camera on the Galaxy A61. It will also have an 8MP ultrawide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom like the Galaxy A51, and also a 5MP depth sensor.

Galaxy A71

The Galaxy A71 will also get a 48MP primary camera, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, another 12MP sensor but telephoto with 2x optical zoom, and then a ToF sensor.

Galaxy A81

The Galaxy A81 is Samsung’s most powerful A series phone at the moment but it will soon be dethroned by the upcoming Galaxy A90. The Galaxy A81 will have quad rear cameras and we doubt it will adopt the slide+rotate design of the Galaxy A80’s triple rear cameras.

The main camera of the Galaxy A81 is a 64MP sensor and it will be paired with a 16MP ultrawide angle camera, a 12MP telephoto camera with optical zoom (source not sure if it is 2x or 5x) and a Time of Flight sensor.

Galaxy A91

Last but definitely not least is the Galaxy A91, a successor to the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy A90. This will make use of Samsung’s 108MP sensor, most probably the one which was announced recently. It will add a 16MP ultrawide camera, a 12MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a ToF camera.

Samsung’s Galaxy A series lineup for next year will be packing some serious camera specs which should make the competition worried. Even if the above specs are true, as of the time of writing, Samsung may decide to change some features.

According to Korean Media, ET News, Samsung will launch three Galaxy A-series phones with under-display fingerprint scanners this year. The three phones are the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70, and the Galaxy A50. Based on their names, we can assume the Galaxy A90 will be the most powerful of the three.

The source says Samsung already has suppliers for the sensor and modules ahead of the phones’ release in the second quarter. Aegis Technology is said to be the manufacturer of the sensor module which is optical and not ultrasonic like Qualcomm’s. Mass production will be handled by Partron and Mcnex.

Other than these three, Samsung is reported to have six other models planned for this year too. These will likely come with side-mounted and rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. The Galaxy A-series will also come with multiple rear cameras with some having Time of Flight (ToF) 3D sensors.

The info comes from etnews who reports that Samsung is planning to launch a cheap wireless charger later this month. The wireless charger is to be priced at about $20 and the move is said to hint at the feature being expanded to other series such as the Galaxy J and Galaxy A series.

At the moment, Samsung’s cheapest wireless charger sells for $49.99. It makes sense to link a cheaper wireless charger to a possibility of the feature arriving on other Samsung devices other than the S and Note series. Since these phones will have a cheaper price tag, it is sensible to have cheaper accessories for them.

Samsung’s plan is to bring high-end features to the mid-range category and it wants to start with the Galaxy A-series. Senior vice president of Samsung India, Mohandeep Singh, believes the new A series will be able to create a larger market for them than the affordable J series. The J series which go for INR 10,000 and up currently has a user base of 60 million with 40 different models.

Mr. Singh says they will work closely with consumers to understand their requirement in a phone, so as to stay ahead of the game. The A series will sell for between INR 20,000 – INR 30,000.

Called the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+, both phones are expected to be released globally.

More details of the Galaxy A6 have surfaced online and they include specifications and new info with respect to the launch and availability.

The Galaxy A6 is said to have a 5.6” HD display, 4GB of RAM, and 32GB of built-in storage which should be expandable. It will have a single 16MP rear camera with a fingerprint scanner right below it.

In front, the Galaxy A6 will pack dual cameras and one is reported to be another 16MP sensor. The source says the phone will be powered by an unnamed octa-core Exynos processor but Geekbench already revealed it is the Exynos 7870. The phone will run Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Just like the Galaxy S9, the Galaxy A6 will have a 3,000mAh battery. Since the screen’s resolution maxes out at 720p, this should last a whole day with moderate usage.

India is the first destination for the Galaxy A6 with a month-end launch date. It is also expected to come along with a Plus model.

However, there is an issue that has been plaguing Exynos processors and that is limited network support. News has it that Samsung is planning to release a new mid-range chip that will support all the network bands in China.

The new chip said to be called the Exynos 7872 is built using the 14nm FinFET process and belongs to the Exynos 7 Octa series. The processor will have six-cores: four cortex-A53 cores for power efficiency and two cortex-A73 cores for performance. For its GPU it will have a Mali-T830 MP2, and a fully-integrated modem for improved network support. From the configuration, this can be Samsung’s answer to the Snapdragon 65x series.

Report says the Exynos 7872 will offer a 70% improvement in performance and a 30% reduction in power consumption compared to older 28nm chips. Samsung’s Exynos 7 series are used in its Galaxy A smartphones and the Exynos 7872 should show up in newer models after its October launch. Samsung may also replace the mid-range Snapdragon processors in its Galaxy C series with the new chip.
