Samsung provides the best software support among Android brands, but even the best support doesn’t last forever. Every month or so, the company quietly clears out a few older models from its update roster — and this time, a total of four mid-range Galaxy phones have been dropped from future support.

This means no security patches or bug fixing, marking the end of the road for these Samsung phones. If your Galaxy device is a few years old, review the list below to find out if yours will continue to receive software updates or if it’s time for a hardware upgrade.

All four Samsung phones were launched in 2021, promising up to two Android updates and four years of security patches. They received Android 13 as their final major upgrade two years back, and now it’s the end of security patches as well.

Choose your next upgrade wisely

If you’re using Galaxy A22, F22, M32, or M42 5G, don’t expect any updates going forward. The phones will, however, continue to function normally; however, they won’t receive patches for any newly discovered vulnerabilities. If your device stores sensitive data, you may want to consider upgrading to a newer model with longer software support. Fortunately, that’s no longer exclusive to flagship devices.

The latest Galaxy S-series models promise a full seven years of Android updates and security patches. That’s the best software support you can get on an Android phone. The mid-range Galaxy phones have also seen a dramatic expansion in software support in recent years, with the latest models promising as many as six major Android updates and six years of security patches. A few years ago, they were only getting two major upgrades and four years of security patches. The newer budget phones also come with a much-improved software update policy.

At the beginning of this month, Samsung announced the Galaxy A22 4G and Galaxy A22 5G phones in Europe. Past reports have claimed that the South Korean company will be announcing the Galaxy A22 4G in India soon. New posters that have appeared now reveals that the smartphone is already up for purchase in offline markets in the country.

Samsung Galaxy A22 price in India

The leaked posters show that the Galaxy A22 4G handset that has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage is priced at Rs 18,499. Customers who are interested in this phone can purchase it through offline retail stores. Buyers will be able to take advantage of Samsung Care offers such as free home delivery, Samsung Finance+, and Samsung Care+. The posters show that the A22 4G is available in black, green, and purple colors.

Samsung Galaxy A22 specifications

The Galaxy A22 has a 6.4-inch S-AMOLED display that offers an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels and a 90Hz refresh rate. The Helio G80 chipset is present under the hood of the device, and it runs on OneUI 3.1 based on Android 11.

For selfies, it has a front camera of 13-megapixel, and its rear camera setup has a 48-megapixel primary lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a pair of 2-megapixel cameras. For security, it has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. It houses a 5,000mAh battery that carries support for 15W fast charging.

At present, it is unclear whether the company will be launching the Galaxy A22 5G in India.

Earlier this month, Samsung announced the new Galaxy A22 5G and A22 4G in Europe. This model was rumored to be rebranded as the Galaxy F22, and now, a recent regulatory filing has strongly suggested this as well.

The news arrives from the Bluetooth SIG website, which listed two smartphone models earlier this week. These two models include the Galaxy A22 and Galaxy F22, which strongly suggest that the latter is a rebranded version of the former. The listing also reveals the model number for the Galaxy F22, SM-E225F_DS, which hints at a dual SIM variant. The model number is also in line with the Galaxy A22’s SM-225 model number.

Although, it is currently unclear that the Galaxy F22 is the 4G or 5G version of the Galaxy A22. Furthermore, both smartphones are powered by a large 5,000mAh battery pack that supports 15W fast charging along with a side mounted fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately, it is unknown which processor the 4G version sports, but it features a 90H OLED panel and a quad camera module (48MP+8MP+2MP+2MP). On the other hand, the 5G variant sports a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC, with a triple camera setup (48MP+5MP+2MP).

The Galaxy F22 is expected to launch in the Indian subcontinent. However, there is no official news on the pricing of the devices. The European version of the 5G model launched for 300 US Dollars, so we can expect the prices to be a bit lower. Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A22 4G and Galaxy A22 5G in multiple markets in this month. Fresh information reveals that the support page of the Galaxy A22 4G went live on Samsung Russia’s website (via. MySmartPrice). The appearance of the Galaxy A22 4G’s support page is a good hint that its launch could be near.

The 4G variant of the Galaxy A22 has already been spotted at multiple certification sites such as FCC, NBTC, and Indonesia Telecom. The support page of the A22 only mentions the SM-A22FN/DSN model number and has no information on its specs.

Last month, the Galaxy A22 4G was spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site with specs like the Helio G80 chipset, 6 GB of RAM, and Android 11 OS. The leaked renders of the A22 4G had also appeared in the previous month. The images revealed that the smartphone features an Infinity-U notch and a quad-camera setup with an LED flash. It may come in color options such as white, black, purple, and green.

The Galaxy A22 4G measures 8.5mm in thickness and weighs around 8.5mm. The device features a 6.4-inch AMOLED screen that delivers an HD+ resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate. The Helio G80 powered handset will house a 5,000mAh battery that offers 15W charging.

Samsung is reportedly planning to launch the Galaxy A22 smartphone in different markets. Some regions are expected to receive the Galaxy A22 4G, whereas others could be treated with its 5G edition. Tipster Sudhanshu Ambhore has spotted the A22 5G at the TÜV SÜD certification site. The listing has revealed the fast-charging capabilities of the smartphone.

At the TÜV SÜD certification platform, the Galaxy A22 5G has appeared with its SM-A226B/DS and SM-A226B model numbers. The listing reveals that it will carry support for 15W charging. The smartphone was recently spotted at the Wi-Fi certification and at the Geekbench benchmarking site.

The Geekbench listing revealed that it is powered by the Dimensity 700 chipset, 6 GB of RAM, and Android 11 OS. The CAD renders of the phone that appeared a few weeks back revealed that it has a 6.5-inch display with a waterdrop notch, a 13-megapixel front camera, and a square-shaped camera housing with a 48-megapixel primary camera.

At present, there is no word on the battery capacity of the Galaxy A22 5G. The device is expected to arrive in multiple colors like grey, white, light green, and purple and it is likely to carry a price tag of around 229 euros (~$275). Rumors are rife that it may break cover in June.

Samsung’s Galaxy F series is about to get a new model, this time, an entry-level one. It has been reported that the next model in the India-exclusive series will launch as the Galaxy F22.

Info about the device was first revealed in a tweet earlier today by “@_the_tech_guy” and was confirmed by the folks at SamMobile. According to the tweet, the phone has the model number SM-E225F and it is already in development while SamMobile reports that there is a chance the phone will be based on the yet-to-be-announced Galaxy A22. This isn’t surprising considering current Galaxy F models are rebadged Galaxy A and Galaxy M phones.

The Galaxy A22 is expected to launch in 4G and 5G variants. It has been reported that the 5G version will have a Dimensity 700 chipset powering it. Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy A22 5G (SM-A226B model number) smartphone. It is expected to arrive as the most affordable 5G phone from the brand. Some markets like India could be treated with the 4G version of the Galaxy A22. It appears that the launch of the Galaxy A22 4G could be drawing near in India as it has been approved by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

My Smart Price has spotted a BIS listing of the phone of Samsung phone that has a model number of SM-A225F. The same phone handset has also appeared in the HTML5Test benchmarks with Android 11 OS. Unfortunately, these listings have no information on the key specs of the Galaxy A22 4G.

Probably, the Galaxy A22 4G will sport the same design as the Galaxy A22 5G. The major difference between the two phones could be the presence of a 5G-ready chipset under the hood of the A22 5G.

The moniker of the A22 5G suggests that it will be positioned lower the Dimensity 800U powered Galaxy A32 5G. Hence, it may feature Dimensity 720 or Dimensity 700 or Snapdragon 480 SoC. It is expected to feature a front camera of 13-megapixel and a quad-camera setup, which will include a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel secondary snapper, and a pair of 2-megapixel cameras.

LetsGoDigital has teamed up with graphic designer Technizo Concept to bring the Galaxy A22 5G to life. The publication and the designer have envisioned this upcoming Samsung smartphone based on leaks and the current-gen Galaxy A series devices.

At first look, these concept renders look identical to the Galaxy A32 5G. Because these renders are designed in such a way since the Galaxy A22 5G is expected to a more affordable version of the former phone.

According to the leaks, this handset will be available in four colors, namely gray, white, light green, and purple. But since these are merely concept renders, the designer has included the device in yellow and black colors.

Further, as per previous reports, the Galaxy A22 5G will sport a quad-camera setup on the back consisting of a 48MP primary sensor,  an 8MP secondary sensor, and two 2MP sensors. Whereas, on the front, the phone will sport an 8MP shooter. 

Although none of the reports say the type of display, the designer has opted for a dewdrop notch just like on the newer Galaxy A 5G smartphones. Unfortunately, there’s no information on the SoC present inside this phone but it is expected to come in two storage configurations.

A fresh report by the South Korean publication The Elec has revealed a few more key information about the Galaxy A22 smartphone.

According to the publication, the Galaxy A22 is aimed towards emerging markets like India. It claimed that Samsung Electronics will collaborate with Samsung Electro-Mechanics for A22’s cameras. The handset is expected to arrive with a front-facing camera of 13-megapixel.

The quad-camera system of the Galaxy A22 may feature a 48-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel secondary lens, and two 2-megapixel snappers. The Galaxy A22 is also expected to arrive in a 4G version. The model number of the 4G variant is SM-A225F, whereas the 5G version has an SM-A226B model number.

Unlike other phones from Samsung, the Galaxy A22 5G will be an ODM handset. It is expected to arrive in two RAM and storage variants, but its details are not known yet. It may arrive in four colors like gray, white, light green, and purple. The device is likely to be priced under 229 euros (~$273).

Samsung is expected to release the Galaxy A22 5G as its most affordable 5G smartphone to date in the second half of 2021. According to a new leak, this phone will be also available in a 4G variant.

Almost all the budget 5G smartphones launched by Samsung also come in a 4G variant. The most notable examples are the last year’s Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71, as well as the recently launched Galaxy A32.

The company is expected to do the same with the upcoming Galaxy A22. The 5G variant of this phone leaked last week with model number SM-A226B. Now, GalaxyClub, the publication that revealed the details of the 5G variant has come with a proof for the existence of the LTE version.

According to new findings, the 4G variant of Galaxy A22 will bear the model number SM-A225F. Also, it will be available in a number of markets, including some countries in Europe. But unfortunately, nothing else is known about this handset apart from these two specifics. 

The LTE/5G models of Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 are identical except for their SoC. However, the same cannot be said for the Galaxy A32 since the two models are different from each other in many aspects. Hence, there’s a chance that Galaxy A22 4G could have a different set of specifications when compared to the Galaxy A22 5G.

As of now, we know that the ODM-made Galaxy A22 5G will be available in two storage configurations and four colors (Gray, White, Light Green, Violet) in Europe and Asia.

Last year, the Galaxy A42 5G was the cheapest Samsung 5G smartphone. This title now belongs to the newly released Galaxy A32 5G. However, as per a new report, the latter phone may not hold the crown for a long time. Because the South Korean tech giant may soon launch Galaxy A22 5G as its most affordable 5G smartphone to date.

Late last year, news broke out from South Korea that Samsung will be releasing the Galaxy A22 5G in the second half of 2021. Ahead of this handset’s official announcement, GalaxyClub has learned a few details about the said phone.

According to the publication, the upcoming Galaxy A22 5G will bear the model number SM-A226B. Unlike most Samsung smartphones, this one will be an ODM device, just like the forthcoming Galaxy Galaxy Tab A7 Lite (SM-T225).

Further, this handset is said to come in two memory/storage configurations. Customers will be able to pick it up in either gray, white, light green, or violet color option. Last but not least, Samsung will be selling this phone in both Asia and Europe.

Unfortunately, the publication does not have any info any other specs of this handset. But we can expect to learn more about it in the coming days.

The Galaxy A22 5G could be positioned lower than the Galaxy A32 5G. The new report claims that it could be priced around 200,000 won (~$185). The handset will battle with low-cost 5G phones from Chinese brands like Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo.

In 2018, Samsung adopted the ODM order system to let Chinese firms design and produce their smartphones. In 2019, Samsung increased the proportion of phones manufacturer by ODMs. This strategy was adopted to increase its market share in emerging markets like China and India. The ODM strategy resulted in a backlash among part suppliers who previously cooperated with Samsung. Hence, it came up with the JDM (joint development and production) strategy where Samsung is partially involved in the selection of major specifications of the product.

Samsung will reportedly jointly develop and manufacture the Galaxy A22 5G with China-based firms like Wingtech and Hwachin. It will be sold in emerging markets like India and Southeast Asian countries. Hopefully, reports arriving early next year will spill more information on the Galaxy A22 5G.

The revamped Galaxy A-series and the new Galaxy M-series from Samsung had received good reception from users and critics this year. Recent reports have revealed Samsung is working on the launch of its Galaxy A-series and Galaxy M-series smartphones. These phones are expected to break cover starting from the coming year. The Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 that were announced in December are expected to be the first Galaxy A-series 2020 phones to go on sale from this month. A tipster on Twitter has revealed that Samsung has trademark for new Galaxy A-series that may possibly debut in 2021. The trademark has been filed with SungAm Suh International Patent & Law Firm in South Korea.

The trademark filings reveal monikers such as Galaxy A12, Galaxy A22, Galaxy A32, Galaxy A42, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A62, Galaxy A72, Galaxy A82 and Galaxy A92. It is too early to talk about the specs of these phones as Samsung is expected to launch them in the coming year.

In 2019, Samsung launched Galaxy A-series phones from A10 to A90 in the first half of the year. In the second of 2019, it released the upgraded versions of those phones. The A-series of phones in 2H 2019 arrived with ‘s’ attached to their names. The South Korean company is expected to follow the same strategy this year. In 2020 first half, it is expected to debut Galaxy A11, Galaxy A21, Galaxy A31, Galaxy A41, Galaxy A51, Galaxy A61, Galaxy A71, Galaxy A81 and Galaxy A91 phones. The latter half of the year may see their upgraded editions such as Galaxy A11s, Galaxy A21s, Galaxy A31s and so on.

Hence, the newly trademarked phones seem to be Galaxy A-series phones for the year 2021. Since the company is expected to continue to launch a wide range of Galaxy A-series smartphone in 2021, it is likely to aggressively price and market the A-lineup this year to increase its popularity.

Some details of the upcoming Galaxy A11, Galaxy A31 and Galaxy A41 had appeared in November. Some reports have claimed that the Galaxy Note 10 Lite that is expected to go official at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020 tech event next week could be rebranded as Galaxy A81 in some markets. The CAD renders of the Galaxy A91v smartphone has also appeared. It could be Snapdragon 865 powered flagship phone that may arrive with a lower price tag than the Galaxy S11 series.
