When it comes to Samsung‘s mid range lineup, the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 were the latest announcements. While the A56 is obviously the more capable and high-end option, the A36 is what we believe offers the better value. The more affordable Galaxy A36 quietly delivers a lot of the same essentials for a much lower price. So here’s why the Galaxy A36 just makes more sense right now.

Matching Batteries & Charging

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A36 is noticeably more affordable than the Galaxy A56, but you’re not missing out on much. One area where the Galaxy A36 matches the A56 is in the battery department. Both devices are powered by a sizeable 5,000mAh battery. So we can expect comparable battery life from both devices, with the chipsets and optimizations making the real difference.

But considering how the Galaxy A36’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and A56’s Exynos 1580 are similar in terms of efficiency (at least on paper), the overall endurance shouldn’t be too different. Along with this battery, you get a 45W wired fast charging, which is the same as the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Similar Cameras

For its price, Samsung’s Galaxy A56 competes with the likes of the OnePlus 13R. But unlike the 13R, it skips the telephoto shooter with a 50MP (Main) + 12MP (Ultra Wide) + 5MP (Macro) setup on the rear. Meanwhile, the A36 has a similar 50MP (Main) + 8MP (Ultra Wide) + 5MP (Macro) shooters on the back, but there are slight changes. All three sensors are different from the A56, which has an IMX906 primary sensor.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A36 has a Sony IMX882 sensor. Practically speaking, there isn’t a lot of difference between the two. You’re not getting a dedicated camera for zoomed shots on either, so the overall photography experience is basically the same.

Pricing and Value

Arriving at the most important part of a mid range phone, let’s talk pricing. The Galaxy A56 starts from 41,999 INR for the 8GB + 256GB starting variant and the Galaxy A36 is currently selling for 30,999 INR for the same memory configuration. In this segment, pricing is key for a device. The Galaxy A56 might be a more rounded phone, but the A36 can offer mostly the same experience for less.

The value here easily leans towards the Galaxy A36. For around 10,000 INR more, you do get an aluminum frame, a more powerful Exynos 1580 SoC, and slightly better main camera. But for those looking for a better deal, skipping on a metallic frame, ignoring hardcore gaming, and a similar camera experience for a more affordable price is definitely the greater value.

Samsung just updated the default browser on Galaxy phones and tablets to block non-eligible devices from accessing Browsing Assist. But not everything is disappointing. As announced toward the end of last month, the Galaxy A56 is now receiving a fresh software update that adds Google Gemini integration.

Users can now launch the AI assistant with a long press of the side button—a feature first introduced with the Galaxy S25 series. Rolling out with the May 2025 security patch, the update enhances the mid-range phone’s intelligence.

The Galaxy A56, launched in March 2025 with One UI 7 (Android 15), initially missed the side-button Gemini access that debuted on the S25 lineup. The new update, build A566BXXU3AYDK, fixes that, setting Gemini as the default long-press action for the side button. Users can switch to Bixby or other assistants via Settings » Advanced features » Side button, offering flexibility.

The update is rolling out globally, starting in markets like Europe, and can be installed via Settings> Software update> Download and install.

Gemini’s integration shines with cross-app functionality, letting users add events to Samsung Calendar, save notes, set alarms, or find restaurants on Google Maps. This cloud-powered AI, also coming to other Galaxy A models like the A55 and A36 with One UI 7 by June, makes the A56 feel more capable and useful.

For those considering the Galaxy A56, it offers some sizable improvements in battery life and performance thanks to the Exynos 1580 chip, an upgrade over the Exynos 1480 of the A55. The Galaxy AI features only make it more appealing and relevant to those who don’t necessarily need a performance-packed phone but would like to experience some of the premium software features.

But now, a fresh certification sighting has hinted at the imminent global launch of the Galaxy A36 5G. So let’s check it out.

Samsung Galaxy A36 spotted on FCC

Just last month, the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A56 model was spotted on the FCC database (Via MySmartPrice). And now, the more affordable Galaxy A36 has also surfaced on the same certification platform. The upcoming mid range smartphone can be seen carrying the SM-A366E/DS and SM-A336U model numbers. The DS here refers to support for Dual SIM.

Apart from this, the FCC listing also confirms support for 5G connectivity, Bluetooth, GNSS, NFC, and WiFi (802.11b/g/n/a/ac/ax). While finer details like its specification are still at large, the database also lists the smartphone with support for the EP-TA800 charger and EP-DA705 data cable. This charger is the same model that offers a maximum power output of 9V and 2.77A. In other words, the Galaxy A36 will offer 25W wired fast charging support.

Earlier this week, both the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 were spotted on the GCF certification ahead of their upcoming announcement. Similarly, the Indian release was also confirmed last month thanks to the BIS certification sighting. The Samsung Galaxy A36 is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or possibly the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 which could be paired with 6GB of RAM. It will run on the Android 15 OS out of the box while leaked renders revealed its Galaxy Note 10-like design as well.

Samsung is apparently working on three new mid range smartphones from its Galaxy A series. The Galaxy A56, Galaxy A36, and Galaxy A26 have just been spotted getting a new certification, which hints at their imminent release.

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A26 was spotted with the SM-A266B/DS, SM-A266B, SM-A266M/DS, and SM-A266M model numbers on the TUV Rheinland certification (Via TheTechOutlook). Meanwhile, the Galaxy A36 carries the SM-A366B, SM-A336B/DS, SM-A366E, SM-A366E/DS, SM-A366U, SM-A366U1, SM-A366W, SM-S366V, and SM-A3660. The third and most expensive phone out of the three was also seen in multiple variants, namely SM-A566B/DS, SM-A566B, SM-A566E/DS, and SM-A566E.

The certification does not reveal finer details regarding these devices, but it does confirm their fast charging rates. Samsung’s Galaxy A26 may offer 25W wired fast charging, while the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 are listed with 45W wired fast charging. Unfortunately, this was all the information that was revealed on the online listing. But based on what we know so far, the brand plans on launching the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 sometime in the middle of March 2025.

A couple of months ago, the Galaxy A56 visited GeekBench, which revealed that it is equipped with the Exynos 1580 SoC. These next gen Galaxy A series devices are reportedly getting a design overhaul as well with a new pill shaped camera module on the rear. In a TENAA listing, the Galaxy A56 can be seen with this new redesign. This makes it look similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6‘s rear camera layout.

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A36 5G model was spotted on the BIS certification (Bureau of Indian Standards). It can be seen carrying the SM-A366E/DS model number (via MySmartPrice). The DS in the model number basically confirms support for dual SIM cards. Unfortunately, this does not reveal any finer details like its specifications, pricing, design, or more. But the BIS listing does confirm that it is arriving in India soon.

Earlier this month, the new Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 had their global support page go live. It was listed in France and later surfaced in other regions. A couple of months ago, the Samsung Galaxy A36 is expected to feature a 50MP primary camera on the rear like its predecessor. Meanwhile, the front is expected to house a 12MP selfie shooter. The back may include two more sensors, which could include an 8MP ultra wide angle lens and a 5MP macro camera.

Based on what we know so far, the Samsung Galaxy A36 may be equipped with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or possibly the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 that could be paired with 6GB of RAM. This model may run on the Android 15 OS based One UI 7 custom skin. The Galaxy A36 5G was also spotted in high quality renders, which revealed a Galaxy Note 10-like design. While the battery capacity is still unclear, the device may support 45W wired fast charging.

Samsung is gearing up to expand its mid-range lineup with two new phones – the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36. Samsung’s support page for both devices (with model number ‘SM-A566B/DS’ and ‘SM-A366B/DS’) are now live in France.

It indicates that Samsung is going to launch the devices soon in the country, and probably, in other regions like the US and India as well. The ‘DS’ in the model name could refer to dual-SIM support.

While the support pages don’t reveal much about the devices, they have already appeared on benchmark and certification platforms revealing some key details.

Galaxy A56 & A36: here’s what to expect

The Galaxy A56 could come with an interesting redesign. Previously revealed CAD renders show that the phone will come with a vertical pill-shaped rear-camera design, something unique in the recent offerings from Samsung as well as its competitors. On the front, the phone packs a flat display that apparently has slightly slimmer bezels than the Galaxy A55. The ‘Key Island’ is also present on the top right of the phone.

According to the Geekbench listing, the phone comes with Android 15. So you can expect One UI 7. Speaking of hardware, it packs the Exynos 1580 chip, the successor of the Exynos 1480 that powers the Galaxy A55. As for the performance improvement, the new chip is built on a new node, with ARMv9 CPU cores and double the GPU hardware. Specifically, the chip is fabbed on Samsung’s third-generation 4nm EUV FinFET process.

Samsung has shifted to a three-cluster design for the CPU – one prime Cortex-A720 core (2.9GHz), three big A720 cores (2.6GHz) and four A520 (1.95GHz). This alone represents a major performance boost compared to the 1480, which used ARMv8 cores. While the Galaxy A55 scores around 1150 and 3400 in Geekbench, the A56 scored 1341 and 3846.

Other improvements include faster (at least on paper) 45W charging, up from 25W of the predecessor.

As for the Galaxy A36, previous reports hint at a similar redesign for the camera module. The phone is also rumored to be slightly smaller than its predecessor, with a 6.64″ display down from 6.6″. According to The Tech Outlook, this phone could be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. it should offer power efficiency improvement over the Exynos 1380 of its predecessor.

Overall, you should expect a new design and improved performance and power efficiency from the new A series devices.

Following the leak of the Galaxy A56, the first information about the Galaxy A36 has now surfaced. The Gizmochina team has spotted the new Galaxy A36 5G in the IMEI database. Samsung is actively working on two different A series models. People are very curious about what the new Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 will offer. Among these smartphones, the Galaxy A56 was confirmed to come with the Exynos 1580 SoC. Now, we see Galaxy A36’s network tests have started to be carried out. This is being done to ensure that the new smartphone offers a seamless user experience.

Samsung is preparing to unveil the new Galaxy A series phones

As Samsung continues to work on the new Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56, let’s discuss the leaked information. At first, the Exynos 1580 appeared in a Geekbench test in July. Later, the Galaxy A56’s appearance in the IMEI database shows that the brand continues to test its new products.

Two weeks after the Galaxy A56 was revealed, the same smartphone was spotted on the Geekbench database. The Galaxy A56 will come with the Exynos 1580 SoC, which performs the same as the Snapdragon 888 introduced 3 years ago. Galaxy A56 scored 1341 in single core and 3836 in multi-core. We already reported this in our previous article. Now the Galaxy A36 has been spotted in the IMEI database.

The Galaxy A36 appeared in the IMEI database with two different model numbers: SM-A366B/DS and SM-A366U. The first model number represents the global version of the smartphone, while the other model number represents the version of the Galaxy A36 that will be sold in the US. In addition, the “/DS” suffix at the end of the model number indicates that the device has a dual SIM card slot. In addition, the phone is named “Galaxy A36 5G”, and this confirms that the device will come with a 5G SoC.

The Galaxy A36’s processor is not yet known. The previous Galaxy A35 had an Exynos 1380 SoC. The new Galaxy A36 may have an Exynos 1480 processor. Of course, this is not official information, because when we also analyzed the specs of the previous Galaxy A34, the device housed a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 SoC at its heart. We don’t know which processor Samsung will use in the new Galaxy A36.

As for the launch date of the smartphones, the Galaxy A36 and Galaxy A56 are expected to be officially unveiled in March 2025. By then, many features of the devices will have leaked. We will bring you new information.
