Samsung’s mid-range Galaxy A55 is already in line for its next big software update, if a recent Geekbench listing is anything to go by. The listing shows the device running Android 16, suggesting that Samsung has started testing One UI 8 on more than just its flagship S25 series.

The benchmark result, shared by @Alfaturk16 on X and reported by SamMobile, shows the Galaxy A55 (model number SM-A556E) with Android 16 onboard. This is an early sign that One UI 8 development has extended beyond the Galaxy S25 lineup, which currently has exclusive access to the beta version.

While it’s unlikely this means a public beta is coming soon for the A55, it does point to internal testing already being underway. The Geekbench scores — 1,150 for single-core and 3,417 for multi-core — are in line with what we’ve seen from the A55’s Exynos 1480 on Android 15 and One UI 7.

Originally launched in March 2024, the Galaxy A55 features a 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, a 5,000mAh battery, and a focus on premium design at a mid-range price. The Galaxy A55 5G is the only mid-range Samsung phone that got early access to One UI 7 software. The beta program kicked off earlier this month with the first beta release, and now we have the second beta update rolling out amid One UI 7 stable rollout chaos for high-end Galaxy phones.

Samsung is rolling out the second One UI 7 beta update for Galaxy A55 users in India. The update comes with the firmware version A556EXXU7ZYD3 and has a download size of around 336MB. It doesn’t bring new features, but rather includes three bug fixes and many improvements.

According to the changelog, the One UI 7 Beta 2 resolves poor visibility of Google Sports in Now Bar. It also resolves an issue related to the eSIM push notification icon. With the fixes in place, the phone now shows a SIM icon when receiving push notifications about eSIM. The latest beta fixes one more issue that’s related to MMS emoticon, but doesn’t state the changes in detail. The changelog rather mentions “Fix an issue that cannot be attached to MMS emoticon on a particular route.“

Besides these three fixes, Samsung has included the April 2025 security patch to the second beta. The latest security patch addresses dozens of vulnerabilities, enhancing the overall security and privacy (read more about it here). Other than these crucial security fixes, the update also optimizes system stability for an improved user experience.

Notably, the update is rolling out in phases in some Asian countries, and the brand is expected to roll it out to devices in other regions soon. So it may take a few days to reach your device. Speaking of the release timeline, there is no exact date available yet. It is only expected that the company will roll out the features with the One UI 6.1.1 update. Reportedly, Samsung has also delayed the One UI 7 beta and the reason is none other than the One UI 6.1.1 update. The company has already rolled out some new AI features to the sixth-generation foldables with One UI 6.1.1. Now it is assumed that the company is focusing on rolling out some of the features to other models that may include the Galaxy A55 and A35.

Finally, there’s no clear information about which specific features are compatible with the A series devices. Theoretically, the server-side features can be implemented on the devices. Nonetheless, it is ultimately Samsung’s decision how they choose to shape the A series for future devices.

Earlier this week, Samsung launched the Galaxy A35 and A55 smartphones globally. Shortly after their launch, DxOMark, a renowned authority in camera and display assessments, gave positive reviews for both phones.

DxOMark named the Galaxy A35 and A55 as display champions in their respective price ranges. The A35 leads among phones priced below $400, while the A55 takes the top spot for devices priced at $500 or lower.

According to DxOMark’s tests, the Galaxy A35 boasts a peak brightness of 1344 nits, while the A55 achieves an impressive 1638 nits. For comparison, last year’s Samsung flagship, the Galaxy S23, reached 1600 nits in DxOMark’s evaluation. So it’s a remarkable feat for mid-range smartphones to match flagship levels of brightness.

DxOMark testers also praised the excellent color accuracy of both phones across different lighting conditions, along with their commendable performance in HDR video playback.

Furthermore, the Galaxy A35 secured the second-best camera ranking in its price category. It particularly excels in outdoor photography and video recording within its price range.

However, the Galaxy A55 ranked fifteenth in its segment for camera performance. While it performs well under standard conditions, the phone reportedly struggles with backlighting, low-light scenarios, and capturing scenes with motion.

With Samsung done with the launch of its Galaxy S24 series, the brand is now focused on its mid-range A-series devices. With the Galaxy A7x series discontinued, the Galaxy A55 will be the one headlining the A series this time around. As we get closer to the expected launch window, tipster Mukul Sharma has shared live images of the Galaxy A55 smartphones, along with some key specifications.

As per Mukul, the device will feature Samsung’s signature design, including a triple rear camera setup comprising a 50MP main sensor, 12MP, and 5MP secondary sensors, complemented by a 32MP front-facing camera for superior selfie capabilities.

According to earlier rumors, the smartphone’s design is expected to feature flat sides enclosed in a metallic frame.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy A55 5G is anticipated to have 128GB and 256GB of storage, along with up to 12GB of RAM. The gadget has surfaced on several certification sites, suggesting a late debut.

Along with housing a 5000 mAh battery and supporting 25W wired charging, the Galaxy A55 5G is reported to be powered by the Exynos 1480 SOC and the Xclipse 530 GPU. It is most likely going to have a 6.5-inch flat panel display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, which will guarantee a fluid visual experience. The Galaxy A55 5G will be available from Samsung in a variety of color options such as Awesome Ice Blue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy Blue.

Samsung launched the Galaxy A54 in the first half of March last year. With that in mind, we can expect the teasers of the Galaxy A55 to start to drop soon.

Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 smartphones in multiple markets in Q1 of this year. The rumor mill has already leaked a lot of information about both smartphones. In a new X post, prominent leaker Evan Blass shared the leaked official renders of both smartphones to reiterate their design and color options.

The above render belongs to the Galaxy A55, whereas the other one is of the Galaxy A35. In terms of design, both phones have almost identical designs, with a punch-hole display on the front and an LED-flash assisted triple camera unit on the back. It appears that both phones will come in three shades: Awesome Iceblue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy.

Samsung introduced the Key Island button design on the Galaxy A15 and Galaxy A25 smartphones that debuted in December. In this design, the portion housing the volume rocker and the power key are slightly raised. The A35 is said to have a plastic bulid, while the company may have opted for a metallic construction for the A55.

Reports have claimed that the A55 will have a 6.5-inch AMOLED display, whereas the A35 will feature a 6.6-inch AMOLED screen. Both are expected to support an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. Both are most likely powered by Exynos 1380 and Exynos 1480 chipsets, respectively. The A-series phones are expected to ship with up to 12 GB of RAM, up to 256 GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging.

The A35 may feature a 13-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel (main, with OIS) + 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 5-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit. On the other hand, the A55 will have a 32-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel (main, with OIS) + 12-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 5-megapixel (macro) triple camera unit. Both models will run on One UI 6-based Android 14 and arrive with an IP67-rated chassis.

Samsung has been rumored to be working on the new Galaxy A55 5G model. It has been spotted in various reports and certifications. Now, the upcoming device has also been sighted in the Bluetooth SIG database, so here are all the details.

The South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy A55 5G surfaced on the Bluetooth SIG database carrying the model number SM-A556E. Apart from its moniker, the listing also confirms support for Bluetooth 5.4. The sighting on the database basically hints that the Galaxy A55 5G’s launch could be imminent. But unfortunately, no other finer details like specs were revealed in the certification platform.

Just recently, the Samsung Galaxy A55 was spotted on the TUV Rheinland and 3C certifications as well. These also revealed that the device supports 25W wired fast charging. Based on our previous report, it is expected to launch sometime between April and June 2024. This model is rumored to sport a 6.5-inch OLED display that offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the new smartphone could be equipped with the Exynos 1480 SoC that is paired with an AMD GPU.

A large 5,000mAh battery pack may power this handset. The rear may pack a triple camera setup that consists of a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 5-megapixel macro shooter. Samsung will be launching the Galaxy S24 series flagship smartphones on January 17. After that is done, the brand will unveil its A-series mid-range devices. The Galaxy A55 will be headlining the lineup this year. The A55 has just picked up the TUV Rheinland certification, revealing its charging details.

The certification details, uncovered by The Tech Outlook, indicate that the Galaxy A55, identified by model numbers SM-A556B/DS, SM-A556E/DS, SM-A556E, and SM-A5560, will feature 25W fast charging support. Presently, Samsung incorporates 25W fast charging in most of its smartphones, reserving 45W fast charging for its flagship Galaxy S-series models.

In terms of expected specifications, the Galaxy A55 is rumored to be equipped with the Exynos 1480 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It will likely debut with Android 14 with One UI 6.1, which is expected to be unveiled soon. A 120Hz 6.5-inch flat display boasting Full HD+ resolution is anticipated to be onboard as well.

The launch of the Galaxy S24 series by Samsung is scheduled for January 17, with pre-reservations for the Galaxy S24 already underway in India. The flagship A-series device for this year is anticipated to be the Galaxy A55.

Before its official release, detailed renders of the Galaxy A55 have been unveiled by Android headlines, showcasing the smartphone’s design and available color options. The device boasts a flat back with three protruding camera rings. While the sides remain mostly flat, there’s a notable design element where the power button and volume rocker are located – Samsung has opted for a raised and curved design in that specific region rather than keeping it entirely flat.

There were speculations that the frame of the Galaxy A55 could be made of metal this time, and from the looks of it, that is what we will be getting. Moving on, the front of the device is revealed to feature noticeable but even bezels (except for the bottom one). It also has a centered punch hole for the front camera. As for the color options, the Galaxy A55 will come with Awesome Iceblue, Awesome Lilac, and Awesome Navy color options.

Other than that, there isn’t much known about the Galaxy A55. A previous Geekbench listing has revealed that the device will feature an Exynos 1480 SoC which has four performance cores clocked at 2.75GHz and four efficiency cores at 2.05GHz. The phone has 8GB RAM, and will likely have up to 256GB storage. Other than that, we can expect it to debut with Android 14 onboard, and by the time it launches, One UI 6.1 will likely be out. Samsung is not giving up on Exynos chips; in fact, it is coming back stronger next year with new Exynos processors. Recently, the company made the Exynos 2400 SoC official, featuring an RDNA 3 GPU. This chip is intended to power the Galaxy S24 series and is expected to compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Samsung might also be planning to refresh its mid-range lineup, as a new Exynos 1480 chip has appeared on Geekbench. Here are the details.

Exynos 1480 performs better than Exynos 1380, of course

Exynos 1480 has appeared on Geekbench with model number S5E8845. The listing reveals the chipset will get an octa-core architecture with four efficiency cores clocked at 2.05GHz and the rest four performance cores at 2.75GHz. Exynos 1480 will have a base frequency of 2.05GHz and will be paired with Samsung’s Xclipse 530 GPU, possibly designed on AMD’s RDNA 2 graphics architecture similar.

Geekbench reveals the Exynos 1480 has achieved 882 points in the single-core test and 2808 points in the multi-core test. These scores may not be very impressive, especially considering that the chipset will power the Galaxy A55, a premium mid-range smartphone. However, when compared to the Exynos 1380, the performance is not too bad. For reference, the Galaxy A54 with the Exynos 1380 scored 776 points in Geekbench 5’s single-core test and 2599 points in the multi-core test.

The Geekbench listing confirms a recent Galaxy Club report that the Galaxy A55 with Exynos 1480 is already being tested. The phone is expected to debut in the first quarter of next year, just like the Galaxy A54. Apart from the chipset, you may not see many upgrades to the phone.
