The July 2021 security update for the Samsung Galaxy A80 has begun to roll out a few days ago. The July 2021 update for the Galaxy A80 is ongoing simultaneously in several European markets and aims to provide a more robust security architecture for the device.

Samsung began the July 2021 security update for its Galaxy devices (smartphones and tablets) at the beginning of the month. The Galaxy S10 series was the first to get the update, including the July 2021 security patch. The latest updates are meant to fix several privacy and security-related vulnerabilities in the Galaxy lineup of smartphones and tablets.

The Firmware version of the A80 July 2021 Security Update is A805FXXS6DUG3. The Firmware can be installed on the Samsung device via an update or manually downloaded and installed. Galaxy A80 owners should navigate to Software Update from their settings app, download and install the update on their devices.

The Firmware for the July 2021 security updates can also be directly downloaded from Samsung’s website and installed on the device.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 already has two OS upgrades since its launch in 2019. The Galaxy A80 came with Android 9 Pie, which was upgraded to Android 10 in 2020 and Android 11 this year. It is unlikely that the A80 will have any further OS upgrade, as we await the stable version of the latest Google Android 12 operating system.

While the July 2021 security update for the Galaxy A80 has been confirmed in most parts of Europe, it is expected that the process is ongoing in other markets globally. The updates and the Security Patch will further enhance the overall security of the Galaxy A80 devices.

Samsung’s leftover older devices have been getting the Android 11 updates lately. The latest ones to join the list are the Galaxy A40 and Galaxy 80 smartphones. The former gets a One UI 3 whereas the latter has received the One UI 3.1 update.

The 2019 mid-range Galaxy A80 is getting an update with firmware version A805FXXU5DUC7 in parts of Europe. If you recall, this device, which launched with Android 9 Pie has already got one Android version upgrade and this should be the second upgrade, which is probably its last one.

However, it should get the security updates for at least another year considering it’s on the official list released by Samsung. Anyway, the latest update brings Android 11 features, One UI 3.1 features, and March 2021 security patch.

Some of One UI 3.1 features include revamped UI, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, improved stock apps, & more. Users in other countries like India should get it soon now that it’s has started rolling out in Europe.

Similar to the Galaxy A80, the Galaxy A40 is also getting the Android 11(One UI 3.1) update with March 2021 security patch. It is getting the firmware version A405FNXXU3CUC2  and is rolling out to users of Vodafone Germany in Europe. That being said, expect the other regions to pick it up in the coming days.

Galaxy A40 launched with Android 9 Pie and hence, this could be the last update for it too. If you are living in Europe and are having either of these devices, you can visit Settings > Software update > Download and install.

After updating devices like the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy Tab S7 series, Samsung is officially bringing the One UI 3.1 update to Galaxy S20 Series, Note 20 Series, Z Fold2, and Z Flip devices.

Samsung in a press release announced that it will bring the latest One UI 3.1 update to various flagship and mid-range series of devices. You can take a look at the list below:

Samsung launched the One UI 3.1 back when it announced the Galaxy S21 series of devices in January. These devices are the first ones to carry the UI out of the box. It then started updating the older devices by pushing the UI update via OTA(Over-The-Air).

Anyway, the latest update is rolling out to various regions in the UK, Europe(like Austria, Germany), and South Korea. If you are someone living in these regions, you can try out the new features by navigating to Software Update in Settings.

The One UI 3.1 brings features like Improved performance, Private Share, GPS location data removal on Images, more Lock screen widgets, Background Video Calling, Google Discover on Home Screen, Zoom Lock(in camera), and more.

That said, a report by Sammobile says that Samsung hasn’t brought the Google Discover, Google Messages to the devices with this update. This means it is still exclusive to the Galaxy S21 devices for now.

Users in other regions need not panic as Samsung will eventually roll out the update soon in the coming days. Also, in the news, Samsung has mentioned devices like the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A80, Galaxy A51, A71. We will have to wait for a few days to know when Samsung starts their rollout.

2018 and 2019 might be remembered as the year slider phones made a brief comeback. One of the phones with a slider design announced during this period is the Galaxy A80. Now it has been reported that a successor, called the Galaxy A82, is coming and the big question is if it will bring back the slider design.

The Galaxy A82 was first heard of in early 2020 when Samsung applied for a trademark for a bunch of Galaxy A smartphones, some of which have already launched. It has been reported that the phone will have 5G support. However, there is no information about how it looks, so we do not know if it will keep the slider + rotating camera design of the Galaxy A80.

The Galaxy A80 launched with a 6.7-inch FHD+ display that didn’t have a notch or hole in the screen. Its sliding + rotating mechanism allowed for the triple rear cameras to slide upwards and then rotate to double as the front-facing cameras.

The phone also packed a Snapdragon 730G processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and 48MP+8MP+TOF triple rear cameras. It launched with a 3700mAh battery capacity with support for 25W fast wired charging.

Since the Galaxy A82 chipset will have 5G, it should come with a 5G chipset from Samsung, MediaTek, or Qualcomm; though our guess is that it will be powered by a Snapdragon chipset. We expect the phone to pack a bigger battery capacity than its predecessor and run Android 11 out of the box.

The Galaxy A82 is expected to be announced during or after summer, so there is still a bit of waiting to do. We expect more details to surface as time goes on. The Galaxy A80 launched back in early April but didn’t go on sale until July. The phone has a notch-less display and comes with triple rear cameras that rotate to double as front-facing cameras. When it was unveiled, Samsung only announced a single variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. However, a new TENAA listing shows we may be getting a 256GB version soon.

TENAA’s database recently added a new entry for the Galaxy A80 (SM-A8050) and the listing shows the device was certified on the 12th of November. There is no difference in the specs save for the addition of a 256GB variant.

Initially, we were surprised the phone was only released in one configuration which didn’t make any sense since it doesn’t even have support for storage expansion.

So if you have been eyeing the Galaxy A80 but put off by its storage, you should look out for the new 256GB version. Its release date is still unknown and we can’t say if it will be available in other markets where it is sold too.

The Galaxy A80 has a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 730G processor paired with 8GB of RAM. The primary camera is a 48MP sensor and it is paired with an 8MP ultrawide camera and a TOF 3D camera. The phone also has an in-display fingerprint scanner and uses Sound-on-Display rather than a traditional speaker.

There is no audio jack but you get NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, and a USB Type-C port. Under the hood is a 3700mAh battery with support for 25W fast charge. The Galaxy A80 ships with One UI based on Android 9 Pie.

After its first arrival in Thailand in April, the Samsung Galaxy A80 is gradually being made available in other countries. Earlier this month, the Galaxy A80 was made available for purchase in China. The handset was rumored to arrive in India in June. However, it has landed now in India with a price tag of Rs. 47,990 (~$698).

The Galaxy A80 has a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with New Infinity notch-less design. It offers a tall aspect ratio of 20:9 and carries support for 1080 x 2500 pixels full HD+ resolution. The display of the smartphone is fitted with an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy A80 comes in a sole edition of 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage in India that carries a price tag of Rs. 47,990. Citibank credit card users can avail 5 percent cashback on the purchase of the Galaxy A80 smartphone. The handset can be bought in colors like Phantom Black, Ghost White and Angel Gold.

Starting from Aug. 1, the Galaxy A80 will be made available for purchase through Samsung’s online shop, Samsung Opera House, all the popular online retail stores and offline outlets. Interested customers can pre-book the smartphone between July 22 and July 31. Those who pre-book the phone will be able to take advantage of free one-time screen replacement offer.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 was announced back in April but didn’t go on sale until much later. In some markets, it just became available for pre-order. The A80 is a unique phone as its triple rear cameras also double as the front-facing cameras thanks to an intricate sliding + rotating mechanism. An infographic has surfaced that explains just how the camera module works.

In its default mode, the Galaxy A80’s cameras are facing the rear and the module is fixed to a rack. When the camera is activated to be used as front-facing cameras, the module begins to slide up the rack. Samsung has used a toothed rack, so the rotating piece locks into place as the module moves up.

When the module gets to the intended point, the rack’s teeth releases and the camera module begins to rotate until it faces the user. When the rotation is complete, it locks back into place and is ready for use. The whole process is pretty fast

The Galaxy A80 has a bezel-less 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with an in-display fingerprint scanner. There is no traditional earpiece for calls as the phone uses the screen to pump out audio. The Snapdragon 730G that features 2.2GHz octa-core processor powers the smartphone with 8 GB of RAM. There is no microSD card slot on the device, but it comes with a large internal storage of 128 GB. The Android 9 Pie OS on the device is overlaid with One UI.

The Galaxy A80 does not feature a front-facing camera. Samsung will be holding a launch event for the Galaxy A80 in India on June 15. The sole edition of Galaxy A80 featuring 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of native storage was launched in Thailand. According to the publication, India will be receiving two variants of the Galaxy A80 and they will be priced at Rs. 39,990 (~$575) and Rs. 44,990 (~$645). However, there is no information available on the storage and RAM configurations of the two expected models of the smartphone.

There is a possibility that the 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage version of the Galaxy A80 will be carrying Rs. 44,990 price tag. Probably, the lower variant may come with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 64 GB storage.

Samsung has announced new Galaxy A smartphones in China today. The lineup includes the Galaxy A40s, the Galaxy A60 with a punch hole display, the Galaxy A70, and the Galaxy A80 which has triple rotating cameras.

Galaxy A40s

The Galaxy A40s, which is actually a rebranded Galaxy M30 for China, has a 6.4-inch FHD+ Infinity U display. The notch houses a 16MP selfie camera. The phone is powered by the 14nm Exynos 7904 processor and it is paired with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.

The A40s comes with triple rear cameras – a 13MP primary camera, a 5MP super wide-angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. The phone also packs a 5000mAh battery with 15W fast charging and a fingerprint scanner on the back.

The Galaxy A40s will sell for ¥1499 (~$224).

Galaxy A60

The Galaxy A60 is also official now. Apparently, the images from this morning was from the event. The phone has a 6.7-inch FHD+ punch hole LCD (not AMOLED) display with a 32MP selfie camera. Samsung says the phone has a screen-to-body ratio of 92% and the punch hole is smaller at 4.8mm than that of the Honor View 20 and Galaxy A8s. It also ditches the traditional speaker at the top for sound-on-display technology just like the Galaxy A80.

The A60 has triple rear cameras – a 32MP primary camera, an 8MP super wide-angle camera, and a 5MP depth sensor. It is powered by the Snapdragon 675 processor and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It packs a 3,500mAh battery and a fingerprint scanner too and is priced at ¥1999 ($299).

Samsung also announced the Galaxy A70 which is priced at ¥2499 (~$374) for the 6GB + 128GB version and ¥2799 (~$418) for the 8GB RAM + 128GB version. The Galaxy A80 was also announced at the event but there is no info on its price yet.

The last few years have seen various design styles make their debut in the tech space. Notches, punch-holes, foldable panels, pop-up camera, sliding camera and of recent, a sliding design with rotating camera as seen on the Samsung Galaxy A80.  The Galaxy A80 brings a rather refreshing design style to an industry that is almost saturated with the same design style repeatedly being used by OEMs. For instance, after the iPhone X was released, notch screen became popular. Punch-hole design is also gaining ground even though we don’t see it mounting any meaningful push in terms of popularity.

The Galaxy A80 comes with a refreshing new design but one that can easily damage just like most phones. But in this case, the design will pose a challenge manufacturing a protective case since the rotating camera has to be put into consideration. This is similar to the Galaxy Fold and it wasn’t a surprise the Fold had an exuberant $120 price tag. The Galaxy A80 cases by reputable case manufacturer Olixar has appeared online.  The cases take into consideration the extending , rotating middle-frame camera mechanism. The cases come in different styles, including one with leather known as Slim Genuine Leather Wallet case. The case is comprised of a rear segment, extending to the edge of the camera module and using some sort of adhesive surface to attach to the phone. That’s necessitated by the fact that the sides of the Galaxy A80 remain pretty much uncovered, except for a patch of material underneath the volume buttons. The rear segment acts as a hinge for the front segment of the case, which flips on top of the front glass.

This design gives full protection to the display. The cases are currently listed on Olixar’s website with the black and tan variant going for $21.99. The Galaxy A80 launched as the first Samsung phone with a sliding-rotating camera and also the first with practically no bezels. Samsung didn’t specify the chipset inside the phone but AnTuTu has now revealed the A80 is also the world’s first Snapdragon 730 phone in the world.

The Snapdragon 730 was launched a day before Samsung unveiled its new phones and it, alongside its sibling, the Snapdragon 730G are the new kings of the mid-range category. The AnTuTu benchmark not only confirms the SoC but also reveals the overall score in addition to some specs.

The Samsung Galaxy A80 has an AnTuTu score of 207,082 points which is impressive and isn’t too far from the 213,113 points of the test device from yesterday’s AnTuTu comparison result.

The Snapdragon 730 (SM7150-AA) is an 8nm processor. The smaller node size compared to the Snapdragon 710 means power efficiency will be improved. Performance is also 35% better with the new SoC. The SoC is paired with an Adreno 618 GPU and a Hexagon 688 DSP.

It also has a Computer Vision-ISP which provides depth sensing capabilities at 60fps. The Galaxy A80’s 3D Depth Camera most likely combines this feature of the chipset to allow you to record videos with bokeh effect.

The AnTuTu result also shows a few specs such as the version of Android which is Android 9 Pie, the RAM, and storage (8GB, 128GB), and the screen resolution which is 2400 x 1080.

The Galaxy A80 has a 6.7-inch FHD+ (1080×2400) New Infinity Display. Yes, that is the name of the A80’s Super AMOLED panel. Under that nearly bezel-less screen is a fingerprint scanner. The A80 also doesn’t have a traditional earpiece above the screen, it actually pumps out audio using the screen just like the LG G8 ThinQ. This is a first for a Samsung phone too.

Samsung says the phone is powered by an unnamed octa-core processor clocked at 2.2.GHz (2.2GHz Dual + 1.8GHz Hexa) paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage with no option for expansion. Yeah, no MicroSD card slot is a big surprise.

The cameras which are the phone’s selling point includes a 48MP f/2.0 camera paired with an 8MP f/2.2 ultra-wide angle camera and a 3D Depth Camera for recording videos with bokeh effect. The rear cameras slide out and flip to face you when you switch to selfie mode.

The Galaxy A80 has a 3,700mAh battery with support for 25W fast charging. The phone learns your daily routine and app usage to optimize battery life. The phone runs Android Pie with One UI on top. There is Bixby onboard but without a dedicated button, as well as support for Samsung Pay. There is also Dolby Atmos for 360° surround sound but you don’t get an audio jack.

It will be available in Angel Gold, Ghost White, and Phantom Black. Samsung says the Angel Gold variant has some elements of pink while the Ghost White has some blue so both phones will appear different depending on the angle light rays hit them.

The phone has a retail price of €650 and will go on sale on May 29.

Samsung has an event tomorrow where it will unveil new members of its Galaxy A series. The event which will take place in different cities simultaneously will see the Korean giant unveil phones like the Galaxy A40, Galaxy A70, Galaxy A80/Galaxy A90.

Ahead of tomorrow’s announcement, the Galaxy A80 has been spotted on Geekbench. The phone with model number SM-A805F was benchmarked earlier today.

The Galaxy A80 runs Android 9 Pie out of the box, has 8GB of RAM and is powered by the SM6150 processor a.k.a. Snapdragon 675. The phone scored 2488 points in the single-core test and 6732 points in the multi-core test. An earlier leak said the phone will be powered by the SDM7150 but that doesn’t seem to be the case with the Geekbench result.

The Galaxy A80 is hotly anticipated because of its unique design. It has been reported that it will be Samsung’s first phone without a notch or bezel and will have slide-out rear cameras that also rotate to serve as the front-facing cameras. The leak that revealed it will come with an SDM7150 chipset also said it will not have a traditional earpiece but pump out audio from the screen.
