Samsung discontinued the C-series of smartphones after launching the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro back in 2016. Without releasing any official statement to bring back the C-series, the company unveiled the Galaxy C55 without much fanfare in China. The C55 is an interesting mid-range phone that is exclusively available in the Chinese market. Here’s a look at its top five key features:

Samsung’s first phone with vegan leather back

The Galaxy C55 5G is Samsung’s first smartphone to feature a premium vegan leather back cover graced with a stitched design. The phone comes in color options, such as Colorful Orange and Stylish Black. It measures 163.9 x 76.5 x 7.8mm and weighs 180 grams.

Versatile camera setup

The back panel of the Galaxy C55 features a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS (optical image stabilization) and VDIS (digital video stabilization) for shooting stabilized videos in up to 4K resolution. According to several reports, Samsung is developing a new C-series phone for the Chinese market under the model number SM-C5560. The handset has recently appeared in the database of China’s TENAA certification platform and Geekbench in the past few weeks. A new development reveals that the handset is already on display in some of the offline stores in China. It seems that the device will be available for purchase before the end of this month (April).

The images above reveal that the Galaxy C55 will be available in at least black and orange options. The images show that both variants have a stitched plain leather design. In all likelihood, the Galaxy C55 will be a rebranded version of the Galaxy M55, available via Amazon in India.

According to reports, the Galaxy C55 will feature a 6.7-inch S-AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It will have a 50-megapixel camera on the front, and a 50-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera unit on the back.

The C55 will feature the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset. The device may ship with up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage. It may pack a 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast charging.

Some Chinese tech bloggers have claimed that the Galaxy C55 will debut on April 26 in China, and its shipping is likely to begin on April 28. However, Samsung is yet to release an official confirmation of the arrival of the C55. It is likely to come in two options, such as 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage for 1,999 Yuan (~$276) and 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage for 2,299 Yuan (~$317).

A couple of weeks back, it was revealed through a Google Play Console listing that Samsung is planning to bring back the Galaxy C series with the upcoming Galaxy C55 smartphone. Now, this device has emerged on Geekbench revealing some key details along with its performance numbers.

The Galaxy C55 5G (model number SM-C5560) recorded scores of 1,026 in single-core tests and 2,384 in multicore tests on Geekbench (via MySmartPrice). It is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, clocked at 2.40 GHz, and comes equipped with 8GB of RAM and an Adreno 644 GPU. The Geekbench listing does not reveal any further details, however, we already know some other specifications thanks to previous reports.

The Galaxy C55 5G is expected to feature a 6.67-inch OLED screen with an FHD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and 450 ppi pixel density. Camera-wise, it is expected to feature a triple rear camera setup, including a 50MP primary sensor, complemented by a 5,000mAh battery supporting 25W fast charging. As for the operating system, the device will more than likely debut with an Android 14-based One UI 6.0/6.1.

The phone likely won’t see a global launch as it is intended for the Chinese market. In related news, Samsung has recently dropped the prices of its recently launched Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 smartphones in the EU, making them more attractive for buyers looking for a mid-range device.

Samsung recently launched the Galaxy A55 smartphone, and we can expect its slightly modified, more affordable versions in the Galaxy M and F series soon. But Samsung isn’t stopping there – they’re expanding their offerings with a new Galaxy C series phone, the Galaxy C55.

The Galaxy C series hasn’t been seen in Samsung’s lineup for seven years, but it looks set to make a comeback with the Galaxy C55. The smartphone has now surfaced on the Google Play Console listing suggesting specs similar to the Galaxy M55/F55. The phone likely won’t see a global launch and is intended for the Chinese market.

Samsung Galaxy A55 Google Play Console Listing

The Play Console listing reveals a few key details — the phone will have a Full HD (1080 x 2400 pixel) display with a screen density of 450 DPI, runs on Android 14, and comes equipped with 8GB of RAM.

For performance, the Galaxy C55 will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor – the same chip rumored for the Galaxy M55 and F55.

This mid-range chip was launched back in 2022 and offers four Cortex-A710 cores clocked at 2.4 GHz, four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, and an Adreno 662 GPU. So it isn’t necessarily a performance-centric SoC. It should handle everyday tasks smoothly but may struggle with demanding games.

Apart from this, there’s not much detail revealed about the Galaxy C55. But the device has been popping up on certifications for a while. So we expect its launch could happen very soon. Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy M55 and Galaxy F55 smartphones for the global market soon.

Last week, a mysterious Samsung smartphone with model number SM-C5560 arrived on TENAA. The listing disclosed the key specs of the handset.

Yesterday, the phone was certified by 3C disclosing its charging speed. At the same time, its live images were added to the TENAA listing.

Now, the device has been spotted on the website of WiFi Alliance as well. 

None of these three listings of the product mention its name. Earlier it was said to be called Galaxy Y55. Now, the handset is being dubbed Galaxy C55 based on the first letter of its model number.

But what we are certain is that it is most likely a China-exclusive smartphone. To know the exact name, we may have to wait for more leaks and official teasers.

As per information so far, the alleged Galaxy Y55 / Galaxy C55 will flaunt a 6.67-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels (FHD+). It will be powered by an unknown chipset featuring a 2GHz CPU and offer 5G as well as WiFi 6 connectivity options

The SoC will be paired with 8GB / 12GB RAM and 128GB / 256GB storage. Interestingly, the device will arrive with a MicroSD card slot.

Further, the phone will sport a triple camera system on the rear comprising a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP secondary sensor, and a 2MP tertiary sensor. On the front, it will have a 13MP selfie camera.

The smartphone will boot Android 14 and will be backed by a 5,000mAh battery. Last but not least, it will carry support for 45W wired charging.
