Samsung quietly drops update support for four Galaxy phones

Samsung is the best in the business when it comes to software updates. The brand is highly praised for offering long-term software updates, and that’s true even for budget phones. Still, even the most generous update policies eventually reach their conclusion — and that time has come for a few of Samsung’s devices.

As spotted by Sammobile, the company has removed four Galaxy smartphones from the official support list: Galaxy A52s, Galaxy A03s, Galaxy M32 5G, and Galaxy F42 5G. This means these Galaxy phones won’t receive major One UI upgrades as well as security patches. In fact, they stopped receiving OS updates long ago, and going forward, no new security updates will be provided to them.

All four Galaxy smartphones were released in the second half of 2021 and promised four years of security updates, which are now fulfilled. As a result, they have been added to the end-of-life (EOL) list.

If you own a Galaxy A52s, Galaxy A03s, Galaxy M32 5G, or Galaxy F42 5G, consider upgrading to a newer model. This ensures your device continues to receive the latest features and security patches, protecting you from various vulnerabilities. You can, however, continue to use any of these Galaxy smartphones. They would work just fine. However, I won’t recommend doing so, especially if the device contains sensitive data.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G launched in India with Dimensity 700 SoC, FHD+ 90Hz display, and more

After teasing for days, Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy F42 5G in India. As expected, this smartphone is nothing but a rebranded Galaxy Wide5. For those unaware, the Wide5 itself is a tweaked version of Galaxy A22 5G.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Price and Availability in India

The Galaxy F42 5G in Matte Aqua and Matte Black color options will retail for the following price tags in India.

6GB + 128GB – ₹20,999
8GB + 128GB – ₹22,999

The device will be sold via Flipkart, Samsung.com, and select retail stores starting October 3. For a limited time, during the upcoming Flipkart Big Billion Days sale, the two variants of the product will be sold at ₹17,999 and ₹19,999 respectively.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G Specifications and Features

The Samsung Galaxy F42 5G features a plastic build like other Galaxy F series phones. The handset sports a 6.6-inch Infinity-V display (LCD) with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (FHD+) and a 90Hz refresh rate.

The smartphone is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. For connectivity, it comes with dual-SIM, 5G (12 bands), dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 5.0, GNSS, USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

On the back, the handset houses a triple camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide unit, and a 2MP depth sensor. Whereas, on the front, there’s an 8MP shooter in the notch. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the right side.

The phone runs One UI Core 3.1 based on Android 11. Lastly, the device measures 167.2 x 76.4 x 9.0mm in dimensions and it is backed by a 5,000mAh battery with support for 15W charging.

Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy F42 5G in India tomorrow (September 29). Ahead of that, the smartphone’s price in the country has leaked. Let’s take a look at how much it will cost in the region.

According to the retail sources of 91Mobiles, the upcoming Galaxy F42 5G will be available in 6GB + 128G and 8GB + 128GB storage configurations. These variants will retail at the following price tags across offline stores.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G appears on Google Play Console ahead of September 29 launch

Samsung will launch a new mid-range smartphone soon as the Galaxy F42 5G has been making rounds in the leaks spree. Now, the smartphone has appeared on the Google Play Console ahead of its September 29 India launch.

According to the Google Play console, the Galaxy F42 is nothing but a rebranded Galaxy Wide5. It has the same specs as the Samsung Galaxy Wide5. The Galaxy F42 5G will feature a water-drop notch panel with a Full-HD+ resolution. It will have an exact resolution of 1080 x 2009 pixels and a pixel density of 450 PPI.

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC and has 8GB of RAM. We expect this particular variant to be the top model and it may also come in a 6GB RAM option. As for the software, the device will boot on Android 11 out of the box.

Apart from the listing, the smartphone previous certifications revealed that it will have a 90Hz screen refresh rate and may feature a 6.6-inch LCD display panel. The device is touted to come with a triple camera system with a 64MP main lens, a 5MP ultra-wide sensor, and a 2MP depth-sensing lens. It will pack a 5,000mAh battery with support for some fast charging technology.

The Samsung Galaxy F42 5G will go official on September 29 in India. It will be sold exclusively via Flipkart and is expected to come at a similar price range as its predecessor. The predecessor Galaxy F41 retails for ₹14,499(~$196) in the country.

Flipkart retailer site will be soon holding its much-awaited Big Billion Days sale in India. It is being speculated that it will be carried out between Oct. 7 and Oct. 12 in the country. Ahead of the shopping event, it shared a list of upcoming announcements that will be carried out from Sept. 21 and Oct. 1. Samsung is expected to announce a new device on Sept. 29. It can be said based on recent reports that the company could be gearing to launch the Galaxy F42 5G on the said date.

Leaked information that emerged earlier this month revealed that Samsung will be launching two handsets namely, the Galaxy M52 5G and the Galaxy F42 5G on the said date. It was recently confirmed that the South Korean company will be launching the M52 on Sept. 28, which will be made available through Amazon India.

Hence, it is likely that the Galaxy F42 5G may go official on Sept. 29 in India. Samsung is yet to confirm the arrival of the smartphone. Reports have revealed that it could be a rebranded version of the Galaxy Wide5, which debuted in South Korea recently. The Wide5 was found to be a tweaked version of the Galaxy A22 5G.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G, F42 5G likely to launch soon in India as support pages go live

A report from last month claimed Samsung may announce the Galaxy M52 5G and Galaxy F42 5G smartphones in September in India. It appears that these devices will go official soon in India as their support pages have gone live on Samsung India’s website.

The support pages of the Galaxy M52 5G and F42 5G have information on their specs. The F42 5G is mentioned with its SM-E426B/DS model number, whereas the M52 is listed with its SM-M526B/DS model number. Rumors have it that the Galaxy M52 5G may debut by the end of this month. The F42 is also expected to launch this month.

Past reports have revealed that the Galaxy M52 5G has a 6.7-inch S-AMOLED FHD+ display, Snapdragon 778G chip, 6 GB / 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a microSD card slot, One UI 3.1 based Android 11, and a 5,000mAh battery with 25W fast charging. It may feature a front camera of 32-megapixel and its rear shell may house a 64-megapixel primary shooter, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera, and a 5-megapixel depth sensor.

Samsung Galaxy F42 5G specifications

The Galaxy F42 5G is likely to arrive as a rebranded version of the Galaxy A22 5G. It may offer specs like a 6.6-inch FHD+ screen, Dimensity 700 chip, 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging. It may feature a front camera of 8-megapixel and a 48-megapixel + 5-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera unit.

Samsung is yet to confirm the existence of the Galaxy M52 5G and Galaxy F42 5G smartphones. Probably, the South Korean company will release the first teasers of the M52 5G in the third or fourth week of this month.

Earlier this week, a Samsung phone with model number SM-M526B/DS was seen in the database of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). This phone is expected to arrive in India as the Galaxy M52 5G. According to tipster Debayan Roy that the South Korean company will be announcing it in September in India. The tipster further revealed that a new F-series phone will be also launching in India next month.

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G to launch by September end

A variant of the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G with SM-M526GBR was spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site. It revealed that the device is equipped with the Snapdragon 778G chip, 6 GB of RAM, and Android 11 OS. The SM-M526GBR variant was spotted at China’s 3C certification site last month. It revealed that the smartphone has a 4,860mAh rated battery. Its typical value could be 5,000mAh.

The Galaxy M52 5G is also expected to feature a 32-megapixel front camera, and a 64-megapixel (ISOCELL GW3 as main sensor) + 12-megapixel (ultrawide) + 5-megapixel (macro) + 5-megapixel (depth) quad-camera unit. Apart from India and China, this device is also expected to arrive in some European markets. It could be arriving in colors like white, black, and blue in Europe.

Samsung is gearing up to launch yet another F-series phone. The upcoming Galaxy F42 5G has now been spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site (via), which suggests that it may go official in the next few weeks.

The Galaxy F42 5G has appeared with its SM-E426B model number on the benchmarking site. The device is powered by a MediaTek chip that has an MT6833V/NZA model name, which reveals that it is powered by the Dimensity 700 chip.

The listing further mentions that it has 6 GB of RAM, and it runs on Android 11 OS. In the single-core test of Geekbench, the handset scored 559 points and it recorded 1719 points in the multi-core test. Before appearing on Geekbench, the handset has been previously seen at certification sites such as Wi-Fi Alliance, Bluetooth SIG, and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Samsung’s F-series phones are just rebranded versions of its existing A-series or M-series smartphones. At present, the Galaxy A22 5G is the only Dimensity 700 chip-powered phone from the brand. Hence, it appears that the Galaxy F42 5G could be a rebadged A22 5G.

Galaxy A22 5G specifications

The Galaxy A22 5G has a 6.6-inch IPS LCD panel that produces a Full HD+ resolution. The Dimensity 700 powered phone comes with up to 8 GB of RAM and up to 128 of internal storage. The device is backed by a 5,000mAh battery that supports 15W charging.

The A22 has a front camera of 8-megapixel. Its rear camera setup has a 48-megapixel main camera, a 5-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It offers other features like a microSD card slot and a fingerprint scanner.

Three new upcoming Samsung budget 5G smartphones have been certified by Bluetooth SIG. The certification of these devices reveals them to be the same phone with different names. Let’s take a look at what handsets they are.

Samsung Galaxy A22 5G

Earlier this month, Samsung announced the Galaxy A22 5G alongside the Galaxy A22 4G variant. The LTE model was recently certified by Bluetooth SIG as Galaxy F22. Now, a few days later, the 5G version has been listed by the same certification agency with three different names.

According to the updated Bluetooth certification (via SamMobile) of the Galaxy A22 5G, the device will be also launching as Galaxy Buddy (SM-A226L), Galaxy Wide5 (SM-E426S), and Galaxy F42 5G (SM-E426B). Going by the names, the first two models should be exclusive to a specific carrier or region.

For those unaware, just last month, Samsung launched a similarly named device called Galaxy Jump in South Korea. This phone is nothing but a rebranded Galaxy A32 5G in Red color. Hence, the Galaxy Buddy and the Galaxy Wide5 could sport a unique paint job instead of featuring regular Galaxy A22 5G colors.

Whereas, the Galaxy F42 5G could debut in markets like India where the Galaxy F series is exclusive to one of the two largest online retailers in the country – Flipkart.

Unfortunately, the launch dates of these three smartphones are a mystery. Anyway, we expect them to go official sooner than later.
