Samsung is rolling out Android Pie to three of its mid-range phones from 2017. The devices are the Galaxy J7 (2017)/Galaxy J7 Pro and the Galaxy J7 Nxt. All three are members of the now defunct Galaxy J series.

The Galaxy J7 Pro and the Galaxy J7 (2017) are nearly identical devices save for differences in storage capacity but the former already began receiving the update last week.

The update is already rolling out for the J7 Pro in Algeria, Mexico, Russia, and Spain. It is 1GB in size and comes with the new One UI interface and May’s security patch. The firmware version is said to be J730FXXU4CSF1.

For the Galaxy J7 (2017), the update comes as version J730FXXU4CSF1. It is rolling out in Spain already and also has May’s security patch too. Some of the One UI features include Night Mode, navigation gestures, and a re-arranged menu for one-hand use. It also comes with Digital Wellbeing.

The Galaxy J7 Nxt’s firmware version gets updated to J701FXXU6CSF1 with the new update. It also comes with May’s security patch and a new user interface. The update is already rolling out in Thailand but owners of the phone in other regions can go to Software Update under Settings to check if the update is available for them.

All three phones launched with Android Nougat back in 2017. It is nice to see Samsung’s attitude to updates has improved. This will most likely be the last major OS update for all three phones but we are not sure about security updates.

If you own a Samsung Galaxy J5 or a Galaxy J7 (2017), you may start seeing a new pop up on your notification bar. It is a new OTA update which focuses on security. The new firmware update contains the security patch from the month of February, so the latest one released by Google. In case you do not know, Big G releases these patches every month to fix the vulnerabilities of its operating system.

The patch for the month of February is very important because it fixes Spectre and Meltdown, which are among the most dangerous vulnerabilities ever discovered on Android and Windows. The update for Samsung Galaxy J5 and J7 (2017) comes right after the one for Galaxy XCover 4 and Galaxy A5 (2017), and it should arrive soon to flagships as well (Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8).

Besides the February security patch, the update also includes fixes for 16 vulnerabilities present in Samsung’s software. The new update brings the version number to J530FXXU2ARB2M on the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) and to J727UUEU3ARB1 on the Galaxy J7 (2017). A month ago, Chinese leakster had claimed that Samsung would be Chinese version of the Galaxy J7 (2017) would be the first smartphone that will featuring dual rear cameras. Samsung has couple of variants of Galaxy J7 (2017) in different markets. For instance, the Galaxy J7 Max is also one of its variants that has been launched in India as Galaxy On Max. However, the Chinese model has dual rear cameras. The leakster has also revealed fresh photos of the phone showing its vertically stacked dual rear cameras.

Before spilling information about the Galaxy J7 (2017) Chinese edition, the leakster had claimed that the Galaxy C10 (2017) would be the first Samsung phone with dual rear cameras. However, fresher information suggests that the arrival of the Galaxy C10 (2017) may have been delayed because of it’s the high demand of the Snapdragon 660 chipset that will be not only powering but also other upcoming mid-range smartphones.

According to the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Chinese model has a model number of SM-J7310. It resembles with the regular Galaxy J7 (2017). However, the curved antenna bands present on the back panel of the regular Galaxy J7 (2017) are absent on its Chinese sibling. The specifications of Galaxy J7 (2017) are unavailable but it is speculated to come with the same specs as the regular version.

The rear-facing dual rear cameras of the Chinese Galaxy J7 (2017) is vertically designed and below it is its LED flash. The backside of the phone also seems to sport a textured design that Samsung made use of in its older flagships.

The leakster has also revealed through one of his recent tweets in the past week that forthcoming Samsung Galaxy A and Galaxy C series smartphones would be featuring dual rear cameras. The South Korean smartphone maker is struggling in China and it is now making efforts to release budget friendly smartphones with updated features. In China, flagship phones like Xiaomi Mi 6 and OnePlus 5 come with affordable pricing and they feature dual rear cameras. Even lesser known smartphone brands in China have launched phones with dual rear cameras. Samsung’s dual rear camera phones will allow the brand to rival against other smartphone OEMS in China.

The Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017 has a 5.2-inch AMOLED screen that also supports a HD resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The Exynos 7870 SoC featuring a quad-core processor that works at 1.6 GHz and 2 GB powers the smartphone. It has an inbuilt storage of 16 GB and carries support for microSD card and dual-SIM. It features a front-mounted fingerprint reader.

It has 13-megapixel cameras at the front as well as back. It receives power from a 3,000mAh battery. The Galaxy J5 (2017) would be available for buying in Europe later this month (probably on June 22) with a pricing of €279 (~$315)

The Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) is the lowest powered and cheapest phone among the 2017 Galaxy J series smartphones. It features a 5-inch TFT screen that supports an HD resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. It is driven by Exynos 7570 chipset that includes a quad-core processor that clocks at 1.4 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. The internal storage of the phone is 16 GB. It also features a microSD card and carries dual-SIM support

Its main camera is of 13-megapixel and its front-facing camera is of 5-megapixel. A 2,400mAh battery is packed inside the Galaxy J3 (2017). Even though it’s a low range phone it sports a metallic body. It will be available for purchase in August with a pricing of €219 (~$245). This phone is also available through AT&T in the U.S. since the past weeks.

All the three Samsung Galaxy J (2017) smartphones feature metallic chassis and are running on Android 7.0 Nougat OS. Other markets are also expected to receive the new Galaxy J phones in the coming months.

Today, the leakster has finally revealed that the plastic casing of the Chinese variant of the Galaxy J7 (2017) and he has claimed once again that the Chinese Galaxy J7 (2017) would be the first dual rear camera Samsung smartphone that may arrive before Galaxy C10.

The leaked shots of the protective case reveal that the SM-7310 Galaxy J7 (2017) would be coming with a vertically aligned dual rear cameras. The model number of the Chinese Galaxy J7 (2017) is J7310 and the regular Galaxy J7 (2017) has a model number of SM-J730 which does not feature a dual rear camera system. However, both the smartphones seem to be sporting the same-shaped rear camera housing.  There is no information available on the specifications of the Chinese edition of Galaxy J7 (2017), but it may come with specs that are available on J730 model.

Roland Quandt, a known tipster had revealed the press renders of the regular Galaxy J7 (2017) few days ago. He has revealed all the color variants of the phone. The press renders reveal that the phone features a metallic chassis and has an unconventional U-shaped design for the upper and lower antenna bands on the back panel. The Galaxy J7 (2017) Chinese edition also seems to sport the same design.

Even though Samsung has not officially launched the Galaxy J7 (2017), its YouTube video review in Russian language has already surfaced. There is no information on the launch date of Galaxy J7 (2017) Chinese version. It is likely to get introduced in the next month. The Galaxy J Series phones fall between the entry level and mid-range category. This year, Samsung is set to renew some of the models in the series one of which is the Galaxy J7 (2017).

The device was first spotted on GFXBench a few months ago and was rumored to launch at MWC 2017. It has been spotted on the benchmarking website spotting a different model number and even different set of internals.

While the version that surfaced in February has model number SM-J72A, this one’s model number is SM-J730. It also sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, an Exynos 7870 SoC and 3GB of RAM. Internal storage is still 16GB but the rear and front cameras are both 12MP sensors. The phone runs Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Galaxy J7 2017 will be available in the US under different names with different carriers. Verizon will pick it up as the Samsung Galaxy J7 V; Tracfone will release it as the Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro; Sprint as the Galaxy J7 Perx; and AT&T and US cellular may also name it differently. The internals for the US versions is also different. It will have a Snapdragon 625 processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB ROM. Rear camera is a 13MP sensor and the selfie camera is 5MP. The Sprint version has an 8MP rear camera and a HD display instead.

So in total there will be more than two versions of the Galaxy J7 2017 hitting the market this year.

Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) with a model number of SM-J727A has been spotted on GFXBench. The smartphone that is pegged to get unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 is also expected to debut in the U.S.

On GFXBench, the Galaxy J7 (2017) is listed with a 5.5-inch display that offers an HD resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels. It will be fueled by Exynos 7870 chipset that includes a 1.5 GHz octa-core processor and Mali-T830 graphics. The SoC is coupled with 2 GB of RAM.

The native storage of the device is of 16 GB. It is pegged to feature an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Other rumors indicate that it will be featuring a 13-megapixel rear camera. It will be arriving with Android 7.0 Nougat OS.

Earlier in this month, the smartphone was spotted on Geekbench benchmarking platform with Snapdragon 625 chipset onboard along with 2 GB of RAM and native storage of 16 GB. Hence, rumors indicate that the Exynos and Snapdragon chipset editions of Galaxy J7 (2017) would be available in different markets. It will be packed with a 3,000 mAh battery.

A video based on leaked renders of Galaxy J7 (2017) suggests that it will be coming with a revamped design compared to the predecessor model. It seems to sport a horizontal metallic strip on the place where the rear camera is located. The smartphone is expected to come in color choices of dark grey and white.

There is no information available on the pricing and the availability of Galaxy J7 (2017). The smartphone has been recently certified by Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. Well-known leakster, Evan Blass, has revealed that it would be arriving with AT&T, U.S. Cellular and Verizon.

The smartphone is slated to get announced at MWC 2017. The Seoul-based firm has teased that it will be announcing the much-awaited Galaxy Tab S3 tablet during the Feb. 27 press conference. The company is also rumored to run a preview video of Galaxy S8 flagship smartphone at the upcoming press meet.
