Samsung’s Expert RAW app has been available for the Galaxy S22 series and a few older Galaxy smartphones for almost a year. Now, the South Korean tech giant is releasing a new update for Expert RAW which will extend its compatibility to the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The update has arrived a bit late since Samsung announced earlier that it is set to release it in April.

As initially spotted by Sammobile, Samsung has rolled out an update to the Expert RAW app which enables support for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Aside from that, the update also brings a few performance enhancements such as faster processing time in a low-light environment and improvements in the image quality.

If you don’t know much about Samsung’s Expert RAW app, some explanation might be in order. The app offers a wider dynamic range than its standard camera apps and a whole host of manual shooting controls for the more experienced photographer. Moreover, the app enables you to take shots in RAW, meaning you can edit them afterward in apps such as Adobe Lightroom.

The update comes packed in 50MB of data and can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store. Now that the Expert RAW is available for Galaxy Z Fold 3, we hope it will soon extend to devices like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, S20 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Fold 2 who have been quietly waiting for the app to knock on their doors.

The new support update is great for photography enthusiasts who own a Galaxy Z Fold 3. It’s not like the app will completely change the capabilities of the phone’s camera but it will definitely provide users with a more robust solution and lots more options for fine-tuning.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G has just been reviewed again by known camera reviewing brand DxOMark. The tests have revealed that the company’s flagship Snapdragon version has scored lower than its Exynos variant.

Looking at the scores, the Snapdragon version that got reviewed recently scored 117 points in the DxOMark camera test while the Exynos variant scored 120 points when put through the same tests. The score had the handset receive 119 points for its photography, 75 for its zoom, and 103 points for its video recording. DxOMark noted that while the device offered “competent” performance with good “photographic versatility,” it is still not as impressive as the smartphones on the top of its rankings.

Talking about score, the firm found that it offered vivid colors in most images, with good details in both indoor and outdoor shots. It even praised the device’s bokeh mode and depth estimation, while its long range zoom pictures also retained high levels of details. The stabilization on videos was also quite effective and the white balance was neutral for both indoor and outdoor videos as well. Unfortunately, the flagship suffered from various instances of instability in autofocus both during videos and photos.

Night scenes or other low light scenarios had the device struggle, with noise being noticeable in most images. Furthermore, DxOMark also found a number of inconsistencies in performance while capturing videos, especially in terms of sharpness in between frames while walking. While the Exynos and Snapdragon variants offer comparable performance, the firm still preferred the the former over the latter, due to its more erratic autofocus performance and higher levels of noise.

DXOMARK, a well-known publication for reviewing cameras, has picked China’s best smartphone, and speaker in different categories. Accordingly, companies like Huawei, Xiaomi, and Samsung bag the top spots.

Precisely, DXOMARK China, on Weibo, has picked(via) the best Smartphone in Display, Camera Zoom, and Overall camera category. Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, Huawei Mate 40 Pro top each of the categories. You can take a look at the list of best smartphone categories below:

• Smartphone Camera: Huawei Mate 40 Pro.
• Camera Zoom- Smartphone: Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition.
• Smartphone screen: Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G.

First, Huawei’s Mate 40 bags the top spot in the overall camera category. If we recall, the device scored 136 points in the DXOMARK camera test. With this, it is currently the smartphone with the highest points in camera. It performs well in dynamic range, has faster AF(AutoFocus), white balance, and more.

Next, DXOMARK China’s pick for the best Camera Zoom in a smartphone is Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Extreme Commemorative Edition. The device bagged the top-ranking in Camera until Huawei’s Mate 40 Pro stole it away. Although its current score is 3 points short of Huawei overall, it scores a whopping 101 points on the Zoom category thanks to dual Telephoto lenses.

Finally, Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G bags the smartphone with the best display. In fact, the company recently revealed a new Display testing category, and Note 20 Ultra is currently on top with 89 overall points. Except over saturation, the device’s display has good brightness, vibrant colors, smooth scrolling(120Hz refresh rate), and more.

Smart Speaker

Apart from Smartphones, DXOMARK China also revealed the best Smart Speaker. However, the category is for the Speaker priced under 1000 yuan($152.83). Anyway, Xiaomi‘s 2019 XiaoAI Speaker HD bags the award. Besides, the company, which has a new benchmark for Speakers, recently released a report where the XiaoAI speaker scores 109 overall points.

That is, it reportedly performs well in crowded scenarios, outdoors, and indoors. Launched in early 2019, the speaker has a 104mm large-caliber woofer, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi, support A2DP music playback, and more.

Counterpoint Research has released a report for the Top-selling 5G smartphones worldwide for the month of September 2020. And China’s Huawei has the same number of devices as Samsung in the top-10 despite facing pressure from all sides.

The report primarily talks about the Top-10 5G smartphones and their market share Globally in September. To begin with, the list has about seven devices from Chinese OEMs like Huawei, OPPO, Vivo, Honor. That’s a no-brainer considering the country’s 5G expansion is way ahead of the world. However, what is surprising is the presence of Huawei which has three devices in the list equalling rival Samsung.

Precisely, the Huawei P40 Pro, Nova 7, P40 occupy second, third, and fifth positions with 4.5%, 4.3%, and 3.8% market share respectively. This is a healthy trend for a company that is facing the heat elsewhere. In fact, the company recently led China where over 50% of 5G devices accounted for the total units sold in Q3. It’s ex-sister brand Honor also has an Honor 30S at the bottom with a 2.8% share.

Earlier this year, 5G was still available in only a few devices Globally and Hence, it didn’t penetrate deep into the markets. However, if you take China, it started the 5G rollout last October and is already pushing for 6G when other countries are struggling to adopt 5G better.

Besides, the report also shows budget smartphones like Oppo A72 5G, and Vivo Y70s 5G. This suggests that the 5G is entering into the affordable segment and breaking the notion of a “premium feature”. As the report says, this has become possible due to the mid-range 5G SoC of Qualcomm, MediaTek. That said, the report predicts that Apple will play a big role in commercializing 5G in North America, Europe after the iPhone 12 series.

Having said that, the list also has Samsung whose Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G sits at the top with a 5.0% market share. It has two more devices the Galaxy S20+ 5G, Note 20 5G with 4.0%, and 2.9% global share respectively.

In any case, this is a welcoming trend as there are more than 200 5G models currently compared to only 50 in Q1. Overall, the growth of the 5G models has increased by 300% in Q3 2020 compared to Q1. And as affordable 5G devices launch, and continue to grab attention, the contribution of top-10 devices in the total 5G sales has shrunk to 37% in September compared to 93% in Jan 2020.

Microsoft introduced Android App support on its Your Phone back in August. Now, the company is rolling out a feature where users can run Multiple Apps simultaneously.

As reported on the official website(via Android Police), the new feature enables running multiple android apps simultaneously. However, it is currently available only for a few Samsung devices. For PC, the feature is currently available for the Windows Insider community who are in Developer, Beta, or Release Preview channels. The list of Samsung devices with “Link to Windows Integration” that supports the Multiple App streaming features is as follows:

• Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G
• Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G
• Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G
• Samsung Galaxy Z Flip
• Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G

The update also extends to devices running One UI 3.0 beta currently based on Android 11 as follows:

• Samsung Galaxy S20 5G
• Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus 5G
• Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G

So multiple-app streaming requires Windows May 2020 update or Later. And a minimum of Android 10. Plus, to enable it, make sure you have the following apps updated to the versions as below:

• Your Phone on PC- 1.20102.132.0 or higher.
• Your Phone Companion App- 1.20102.133.0 or higher.
• Link to Windows Service version- 2.1.05.2 or newer. You can update this here. If you aren’t signed up for the beta, you can apply for that too.

That said, Microsoft says this is an early preview, and hence will gradually roll out to all users. Also, the update has limitations like Sound Sync between PC and Mobile, Mouse Input not recognized by Apps, and more. You can take a look at them below:

For the unware, Microsoft’s Your Phone is the company’s solution to connect Smartphones to the Windows platform. Users running Windows 10 can download the Your Phone App from Microsoft Store. And use it to access Media, Messages, Calls, and now multiple Apps as well. Previously, in the early update for support of Apps, Microsoft explained how the feature works.

As per the official post, a Wi-Fi connection between PC, and Mobile will allow apps to stream on the PC through Your Phone. Users can browse, Play, Order food, Chat, and do a lot more on the PC screen. Besides, users can also add the Apps to Favourites, Pin them to Start Menu and Taskbar. And use them side-by-side with other apps on your PC.

Samsung is definitely leveraging the trade war between the US and Huawei, at least in the UK. A new Marketing Ad for Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has been put up by the company’s UK division on Twitter. And, it straight up mocks the absence of Google Mobile Services(GMS) on Huawei devices.

The company’s official UK Twitter account has a tweet announcing(via PhoneArena) the trade-in offers for the recently launched Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. As per the offer, the company is giving up to £350 off on exchange of old Huawei devices. Specifically, it shows a £350 trade-in value for the Huawei P30 Pro on or before November 8, 2020.

The post also has a video describing the offer along with it. In it, the company has blatantly called out the absence of Google Maps on Huawei devices. The video opens up with a slogan, “How do you upgrade to the latest Huawei phone without using your Google Maps app?”. It is basically encouraging people to buy their device to continue using Google services in Europe. While Samsung is indeed stating the obvious here, is cashing money out of someone’s misery a good thing?

Huawei has been facing pressure in all directions from the US. After banning Huawei from using the GMS in 2019, the US government is longing for more. It is actively asking countries in Europe to cancel the 5G deal, and has gone further to block supplies like semiconductor chips to Huawei that uses US tech.

The company has been trying everything to get back but is almost toast outside of China. It’s sales started crippling in Europe soon after the ban took center stage. Although it remained strong globally surpassing Samsung to become the leading smartphone brand in Q2 2020, the story of Europe is different. In fact, Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi edged Huawei as the third-largest vendor in Europe recently. That said, we will have to wait and see how this promotion works in favor of Samsung in the UK.

A new report from Counterpoint Research, a known analytics based firm, has revealed that the product cost of a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is 549 US Dollars, with the device showcasing the semiconductor prowess of both the South Korean tech giant and known chipmaker Qualcomm.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G is the company’s ultra high end handset which is a culmination of the latest technologies being integrated and optimized across multiple system components, design and is manufactured using cutting edge techniques as well. Thus, the production of such flagships from various companies arrive with a ” halo effect” around them, as per Counterpoint Research.

According to Ethan Qi, a Senior Analyst, “Samsung has done an excellent job in designing, manufacturing and integrating multiple advanced technologies and components in a very thin and light form-factor compared to the previous generation flagship models, and with a competitive BoM cost structure. The total BoM cost achievement is slightly under $550 with the component cost making up around $468, which is a commendable for a device with a list price of $1299.”

Samsung has offered its flagship with both the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ variant for certain key markets like the US, China, South Korea, and others, while the other regions across the globe sport the Exynos 990 variant. Ethan Qi further added that “his mmWave version of the Note 20 Ultra 5G builds on Qualcomm’s reference design featuring the most advanced 5G SoC, the Snapdragon 865+, and the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System.” The 5G networking components in the device are key, especially in countries that support the newer and faster telecom generation.

Today, Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy Note 20 5G and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G in China. The new smartphones will go on sale starting on August 28.

The Galaxy Note 20 5G comes in a single configuration like the international variant but it has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, unlike the US version that has 128GB of storage. The phone is priced at ¥7,399 (~$1065) which is ~$65 higher than the 128GB version sold in the US.

The Galaxy Note20 Ultra, on the other hand, comes in two variants – 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB. The price tag is ¥9,199 (~$1325) and ¥9,999 (~$1440) respectively. In the US, the Note 20 Ultra 5G is $1299.99 for the 12GB+128GB version and $1449.99 for the 12GB+512GB.

The Galaxy Note 20 5G and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G comes with AMOLED displays. The former has a flat panel with a 1080p resolution and a 60Hz refresh rate while the Ultra is a curved QHD+ panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. The Ultra is also the first smartphone with an adaptive refresh rate which means it automatically switches based on the content on the screen. It switches to the highest refresh rate when playing games on the device and drops to the lowest rate when sending emails or typing a document.

Both devices are powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus processor. They have triple rear cameras albeit with different configurations. You also get stereo speakers, NFC, a 4300mAh battery in the Note 20 5G, and a 4500mAh battery inside the Note 20 Ultra 5G. The two phones support 25W fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.

The Galaxy Watch3 and the Galaxy Buds Live are also available in China now. The smartwatch is available in the 45mm size for ¥3099 (~$446). It is available in Obsidian Black and Mountain Ash. The Buds Live is priced at ¥1199 (~$73) and is available in gold, black, and white.
