<p>There was much gossip when Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2022/03/01/galaxy-note-series-discontinued-samsungs-smartphone-chief/">stopped manufacturing</a> the Samsung Galaxy Note series, the fans were against the electronics maker&#8217;s decision. Well, over time, the decision seems to have paved in the right direction. Samsung has established itself in the foldable market with the Galaxy Z Series smartphones. From the recent sales figures, it seems the company not only managed to forge a new segment but even ushered in a new market with its foldable smartphones.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="498" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-1024x498.jpg?x10805" alt="" class="wp-image-563004" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-1024x498.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-300x146.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-768x373.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-696x338.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-1068x519.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold-864x420.jpg 864w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/galaxy-z-fold.jpg 1152w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p><strong><em>Must See: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/24/best-selling-foldable-smartphones-china-h1-2023/">China’s best-selling foldable smartphone list has Samsung at the end</a></em></strong></p>

<p>While speaking at the IFA 2023 went in Berlin, Benjamin Braun, Chief Marketing Officer of Samsung Europe, said, “<em>Our latest foldable phones are selling super-fast. In fact, the annual sales of our foldable devices have exceeded the Note series in Europe.</em>” The company didn&#8217;t mention any exact figures and details about other markets. But mentioned the sales ratio of 7:3 between the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The buyers opted for Graphite and Mint colors while grabbing Galaxy Z Flip 5, and the Icy Blue and Phantom Black Galaxy Z Fold 5.</p>

<p>It is a great achievement for the Samsung Mobile team, as alongside the sales, the Average Selling Price &#8211; ASP has increased considerably over time. The expectations of Samsung seem to have aligned well with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 sales.</p>

<p>Recent reports also confirmed better sales of the new Galaxy Foldables in other markets. In India, Samsung registered a 70% increase in pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. On the global stage, the sales have already surpassed 10 million units. </p>

<p><strong><em>Related: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2023/08/29/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-5-is-a-tough-clamshell-foldable-phone-comes-out-unscathed-in-durability-test/">Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Is a Tough Clamshell Foldable Phone, Comes Out Unscathed In Durability Test</a></em></strong></p>

<p>With the launch of more foldable smartphones from other companies, we believe a fierce competition in the market within a few years. </p>

<p>In Vietnam, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tags/samsung">Samsung</a> recently celebrated the Space 23 event of its Galaxy Note series. The celebration was hosted in Samsung&#8217;s flagship shop in Ho Chi Minh City and included a variety of events to commemorate the anniversary.</p>

<p>The ceremonies began with the formal debut of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, which is now available in Vietnam. Samsung representatives emphasised their ambition for developing new gadgets that satisfy users&#8217; demands while providing them with access to cutting-edge technologies. Guests could also get hands-on experience with several Galaxy Note series products and learn more about how they can make life easier with mobile productivity features like S Pen or DeX Mode, which are all enabled by 5G connectivity on select models.</p>

<p>The welcome ceremony, which took place on the evening of March 23, featured prominent visitors such as Ambassador Thanh Hang, veteran Galaxy Note users, partners, and press agencies.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="646" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-1024x646.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" class="wp-image-525166" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-1024x646.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-300x189.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-768x484.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-696x439.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-1068x674.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2-666x420.jpg 666w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Samsung-Space-2.jpg 1462w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>As a gift of appreciation to the Samsung user community, particularly the Galaxy Note series enthusiasts, Samsung has organised a variety of engaging and noteworthy activities to commemorate the significant milestones accomplished since the start of the Galaxy Note series. Here is an opportunity to reflect and reminisce on the decade-long adventure that began with the release of the first Galaxy Note.</p>

<p>Samsung introduced a special card known as &#8220;Note Privilege,&#8221; which is widely regarded as important. This card was created specifically for the Samsung community and provides particular benefits to its owners. The privileged cardholders can take advantage of exclusive deals, purchase Samsung mobile devices at reduced costs, and enjoy one-of-a-kind premium experiences not available to the general public. This card, however, is not widely available.</p>

<p>The news arrives from <a href="https://twitter.com/UniverseIce/status/1440579978542780425?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1440579978542780425%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.mysmartprice.com%2Fgear%2Fsamsung-galaxy-s-might-get-revamped-to-note-series-claims-tipster%2F" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>Ice Universe</em></a> who stated that the &#8216;Note&#8217; is not over yet and that the &#8220;S has become the Note.&#8221; For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant did not launch a Note phone this year, and included the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/s-pen/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">S Pen</a> support for its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a>. Previously, we had even reported on the company trademarking the name &#8220;<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/09/21/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-wrap-around-display/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Flex Note</a>&#8221; and patenting a unique phone with folding wrap around display that also supported the S Pen stylus, which hinted that the company will be reviving its Note series.</p>
<p>Now, Ice Universe, a known tipster revealed the big news earlier today (22nd September 2021). While this might be good news for the Note series enthusiast, it is still unlikely since the S series is also a flagship series with its own dedicated userbase. In the past, both lineups had a clear distinctions, although, the newly launched Galaxy S21 Ultra had blurred the line between the two different series.</p>

<p>But, Samsung did keep it as an S series phone that did not ship with an S Pen out of the box. As of right now, this is still an unconfirmed report so take this news with a pinch of salt for now. We have no way of confirming this information at the moment, so stay tuned for more as we will be covering any notable updates that surface.</p>

But a new trademark and patent hints that the Note lineup will be seeing a major update in terms of design.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-414048 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="770" height="449" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449-300x175.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449-768x448.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449-696x406.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-flex-note-770x449-720x420.jpg 720w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<p>According to a <a href="https://nl.letsgodigital.org/opvouwbare-telefoons/samsung-galaxy-flex-note/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><em>LetsGoDigital</em> </a>report, the South Korean tech giant&#8217;s display unit had filed a trademark for the name &#8216;Flex Note&#8217; and also a design patent with the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration). The patent describes a smartphone with a large display that can fold outward and wrap around the device. In its compact form, the device would resemble a regular smartphone from the front, with its large display folding and wrapping around to the back from the right side. Looking at the compact form from the back, the wrap around display covers around half of the rear panel.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-414049 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="770" height="578" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-80x60.jpg 80w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-265x198.jpg 265w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-696x522.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung-galaxy-flex-note-s-pen-770x578-560x420.jpg 560w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<p>Users can unfold this display, which would make the total screen size of the smartphone larger. This would make it resemble a tablet from the front. Another unique aspect about its design is the inclusion of a recess for the S Pen stylus. In other words, the device will arrive with S Pen support and a special magnetic housing as well. Notably, the device is equal in terms of thickness when in its compact form. However, when the display is unfolded, there is a noticeable difference between one half of the rear panel and the other side which houses the folding wrap around display.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-414050 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung" width="770" height="508" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/samsung_galaxy_note-770x508-637x420.jpg 637w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<p>Although, this difference in thickness also serves a purpose as the magnetic housing for the S Pen is in the region behind the folding screen. So when the display folds the S Pen can be housed securely and can be removed when needed in its tablet form. Another interesting aspect is that the rear camera module is not detailed in the patent sketches, but the company does include dual cameras underneath the display that is on the top right corner, which makes it capable of taking both selfies in tablet form and serve as a primary sensor in its compact form. At the moment, it is unknown if the company is actually working on such a product or covering all bases. So stay tuned for more updates.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to a </span><a href="https://www.galaxyclub.nl/nieuws/samsung-ververst-merkrechten-bestaande-telefoonseries-op-een-na/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">report</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> by </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">GalaxyClub</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Samsung Electronics recently renewed trademarks for its smartphone series but left out one. That omitted one is nothing but the ‘Galaxy Note’.</span></p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Samsung/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Samsung</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> renewed all other brandings, including Galaxy Z, Galaxy S, Galaxy A, and Galaxy M. If you are wondering why there’s no Galaxy F, then you should know these trademarks are only meant for South Korea where F series phones are not sold.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There’s a chance that the company might restate the trademark when it is ready to release a Galaxy Note device. It is worth noting that the firm also did not renew the branding for Galaxy Tab. This does not mean the tech giant will stop selling tablets as this product category is on the rise after years.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Having said that, even if the Galaxy Note lineup gets canceled, its features will continue to live on in other devices from Samsung. Because before unveiling the </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold3-5g/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Galaxy Z Fold3</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with support for S Pen, TM Roh </span><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/07/27/samsung-s-pen-foldable-smartphones-launch-unpacked-event/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">confirmed</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that more devices will get Galaxy Note features in the future. But we all know that’s not enough for fans.</span></p>

<p>According to a new tweet from tipster @<a href="https://twitter.com/FrontTron/status/1399179163525783555?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1399179163525783555%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fpocketnow.com%2Fis-the-samsung-galaxy-note-coming-back-in-2022" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">FrontTron</a>, the South Korean tech giant will be bringing back its Note models due to the lackluster market response to its high end flagship Galaxy S21 Ultra with the S Pen. The sales of this model were lower than what the company had expected. Thus, the brand is reportedly &#8220;discussing&#8221; launching the Galaxy Note series again next year. Although, this isn&#8217;t exactly news as Samsung had already announced its plans to launch new Galaxy Note devices in 2022.</p>
<p>For those unaware, the Galaxy S21 Ultra has failed to meet the expectations of the company&#8217;s Note series userbase. While the Galaxy Note devices offer a port to house the S Pen, this basic feature is missing on the Galaxy S21 Ultra. Furthermore, the high end model even lacks Bluetooth support for the S Pen as well. In other words, it doesn&#8217;t offer the same gesture based feature that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra offers.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">It will come back. Yes. You heard it right.<br />They are discussing about it since the S21 Ultra with S-Pen&#39;s market response and sales record hasn&#39;t met their expectations. <a href="https://t.co/ZfgILVfg9I">https://t.co/ZfgILVfg9I</a></p>
<p>&mdash; Tron ❂ (@FrontTron) <a href="https://twitter.com/FrontTron/status/1399179163525783555?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 31, 2021</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>Unfortunately, if this reasoning is true, Samsung is even rumored to follow a similar design philosophy for its upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 3. This upcoming foldable model may not incluse a built in port for the S Pen either. But, this is still an unconfirmed report so take it with a pinch of salt, and stay tuned for more updates as we will be covering the Unpacked event that is expected to reveal additional details regarding this device.</p>

<p><strong>No new Galaxy Note this year</strong></p>
<p>The CEO of Samsung Mobile has announced that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/17/no-new-galaxy-note-this-year-confirms-samsung-ceo/">there will be no new Galaxy Note phone(s) this year</a>. Several unconfirmed reports had revealed that Samsung was killing the series but it turns out that is not the case. If you want the latest Samsung phone with a stylus, then the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a> is the device you want.</p>

<p>Aside from the Snapdragon 870 5G, it also has a 120Hz AMOLED screen, 66W fast charging, and a starting price under $400.</p>

<p><strong>Sony shows off new PlayStation VR controllers while Microsoft says VR for Xbox is not in its plans</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> already revealed it is making a new VR system for the PlayStation 5. While it won&#8217;t launch this year, the manufacturer gave us <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/19/sony-unveils-new-ps5-vr-controllers-adaptive-triggers-better-ergonomics/">an early look at the controllers that will come with the system</a>.</p>
<p>The new controllers which are shaped like orbs will have the DualSense controller&#8217;s Adaptive Triggers feature, and also haptic feedback, and finger touch detection.</p>
<p>In related news, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/microsoft">Microsoft</a> announced<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/03/17/microsoft-says-it-is-not-developing-a-vr-headset-for-the-xbox-series-s-x/"> it won&#8217;t be making VR hardware</a> for the new Xbox consoles. The info was released after a bug had shown up on an Xbox Series X that asked a user to update their VR headset after connecting the new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/02/16/microsoft-announces-99-xbox-wireless-headset-for-xbox-consoles-and-windows-pcs/">Xbox Wireless Headset</a>. Microsoft had to clear the air after several speculations that a VR headset is in development gained traction.</p>

<p><strong>Motorola has another 108MP camera phone in development, this time it&#8217;s a Moto G </strong></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-edge-plus/">Motorola Edge Plus</a> is one of the 108MP flagships you can get your hands on but if you don&#8217;t want a flagship, then you will have to wait for the Moto G60. Before smartphones became the in-thing, several PDAs had styluses that allowed users to navigate through their user interface and features. Years later, manufacturers began shipping the input device with smartphones. It has been decades since the first stylus shipped and the pen-like input device has received some pretty significant upgrades.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_369961" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-369961" style="width: 300px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-369961" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Sony-Ericsson-P990i.jpg?x10805" alt="Sony-Ericsson-P990i" width="300" height="290" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-369961" class="wp-caption-text">Sony Ericsson P990i</figcaption></figure></p>
<p>Some of the early phones that had a stylus include the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/ericsson">Ericsson</a> R380, the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/motorola">Motorola</a> Accompli 388, and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/sony">Sony</a> Ericsson P990i. However, the styluses that accompanied these devices were not as refined as their successors. You couldn&#8217;t write properly with them and there were not a lot of apps that made the best use of the input device. They also sort of became redundant following the popularity of capacitive touchscreen devices. The big break for the stylus came when <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> announced the first <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-note">Galaxy Note</a> with a stylus dubbed the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/S-pen">S Pen</a>.</p>
<h4></h4>
<h4><strong>Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy Note series with S Pen redefined the stylus</strong></h4>
<p>The S Pen brought several features that upped the functionality of the stylus. Its note-taking feature felt more natural and it had a handwriting-to-text feature that converted your written notes into typed text. You could also use it to quickly launch apps and even take down notes on the screen without unlocking the phone. The newer versions of the S Pen even have more features such as Bluetooth connectivity, 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, and a gyroscope and accelerometer that allows you to use the S Pen to control the phone by waving it in the air. It has also become a very useful editing tool.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_365712" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-365712" style="width: 1500px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-365712" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy S21 Ultra" width="1500" height="1000" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen.jpg 1500w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/007_galaxys21_ultra_handson_spen-630x420.jpg 630w" sizes="(max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-365712" class="wp-caption-text">Galaxy S21 Ultra with S Pen</figcaption></figure></p>
<h4><strong>The End of the Galaxy Note era but the S Pen lives on</strong></h4>
<p>For most people who want to experience the productivity that a stylus offers with a smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note series is/was the way to go. Was because Samsung has all but confirmed that the Galaxy Note series is going to be killed off. The manufacturer launched the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a> with support for the S Pen, a first for the S series, and it has <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-spokesman-says-the-s-pen-is-coming-to-more-galaxy-devices/">confirmed that more Galaxy phones will get the S Pen too</a>. This brings us to the main point of this post which is &#8212; it is time for more manufacturers to adopt the stylus for their phones, at least the flagship ones.</p>
<h4><strong>First, the other stylus-toting phones</strong></h4>
<p>While Samsung&#8217;s Galaxy Note series is widely known for its stylus, there are other manufacturers that also have a line of smartphones that ship with a stylus such as LG&#8217;s Stylo series and some models of Infinix&#8217;s Note series. There is also the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-moto-g-stylus/">Moto G Stylus</a> series which got a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-moto-g-stylus-2021/">second model</a> just last month. However, these devices come with basic styluses and are missing several of the features that made the S Pen of the Galaxy Note series stand out.</p>
<p><figure id="attachment_352825" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-352825" style="width: 1162px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-352825" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus.png?x10805" alt="Moto G Stylus" width="1162" height="613" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus.png 1162w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-300x158.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-768x405.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-1024x540.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-696x367.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-1068x563.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Moto-G-Stylus-796x420.png 796w" sizes="(max-width: 1162px) 100vw, 1162px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-352825" class="wp-caption-text">Moto G Stylus</figcaption></figure></p>
<h5><strong>This is the era of the stylus</strong></h5>
<p>Phones have gotten much bigger in years. The average smartphone is significantly larger than the Ericsson R380, which is one of the first smartphones with a stylus. We also have foldable smartphones that pack even larger displays and offer them in a more compact form factor. However, there are very few phones that have support for a stylus even though they have the screen estate for it.</p>
<p>A bigger screen is not just the only reason for a stylus. There are now several apps from note-taking to drawing and painting to editing that are best used with a stylus. Also, smartphones are now more powerful than ever and can do more than their predecessors. You can even connect some smartphones to an external display and have them function as a full-fledged computer. If you own a stylus-equipped smartphone, you can use the input device to navigate when in desktop mode or even use your stylus-supported apps on an even bigger display.</p>
<p>Now that Samsung has begun offering its S Pen (as optional hardware) with its Galaxy S line, it may be time for other manufacturers to jump on the stylus train for their flagships too. We have a few manufacturers in mind that we believe may be able to pull this off.</p>
<ol>
<li style="list-style-type: none;">
<ol>
<li><strong>Huawei</strong> &#8211; Actually, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/Huawei">Huawei</a> has already been offering stylus support for its flagship phones and even beat Samsung to making it optional hardware rather than bundling it with the phone. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-20-x-5g/">Mate 20 X</a> has support for the Huawei M-Pen, a stylus that has 4096-levels of pressure sensitivity and an eraser feature. The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-30/">Mate 30</a> series also has support for the M-Pen while the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-40/">Mate 40</a> series launched with a new stylus called the M-Pen 2 (sold separately) which has a better design, faster pairing, lower latency, tilt and pressure sensitivity, and multi-device support with seamless switching.
<a href='https://www.gizmochina.com/huawei-m-pen-2-b/'><img width="703" height="448" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-M-Pen-2-b.png?x10805" class="attachment-full size-full" alt="Huawei M-Pen 2" loading="lazy" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-M-Pen-2-b.png 703w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-M-Pen-2-b-300x191.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-M-Pen-2-b-696x444.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/Huawei-M-Pen-2-b-659x420.png 659w" sizes="(max-width: 703px) 100vw, 703px" /></a>

<p>Huawei clearly already has experience with making styluses for its phones, and it will be nice to see it add more features and expand support to its P series and its foldable line of smartphones. Save for the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-razr-2019/">Motorola Razr</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip/">Galaxy Z Flip</a>, all the other foldable smartphones unfold into a tablet. And there are few portable devices that offer a portable creative experience as much as a tablet that has a stylus.</li>
<li><strong>Xiaomi</strong> &#8211; <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> is another manufacturer that should offer stylus support for its smartphones. The Chinese company has proved beyond doubt that it is a leader when it comes to innovation, but surprisingly, it has shied away from launching a device with a stylus. We think now is a great time for it to jump on the train. Going by the size of its latest flagship, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/xiaomi-mi-11/">Mi 11</a>, which is 6.81-inches, stylus support may be a welcome addition so users can take advantage of that real estate to get productive. We also would like to see the feature get extended to the Mi MIX series and its upcoming line of foldable devices.</li>
<li><strong>OPPO</strong> &#8211; OPPO is the only manufacturer from the BBK family that seems likely to jump on the stylus train in the near future and it will be exciting to see the feature debut in the Find series. OPPO is also expected to announce its first foldable smartphone this year and stylus support will be a useful addition.</li>
</ol>
</li>
</ol>
<p>Which other manufacturers will you like to see jump on the stylus train? Let us know in the comment box below.</p>
<h3><strong>USI &#8211; An easy way to add stylus support to devices</strong></h3>
<p>For manufacturers that want to jump on the stylus train, it may be better for them to join the Universal Stylus Initiative (USI) rather than developing their own technology. The initiative which has members such as <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a>, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/goodix">Goodix</a>, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/lenovo">Lenovo</a>, and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/dell">Dell</a> uses an open and non-proprietary format for stylus communication. It is free and manufacturers do not need to pay to use the technology. All they have to do is manufacture a device that meets the specification.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" title="USI: The Industry Standard Active Stylus Solution" width="696" height="392" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/R29elYVVu6w?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>USI styluses have 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity, can save information on the stylus such as the color of ink color and size of the pen, and support two-way communication between the device and stylus to avoid interference from other electronic devices.</p>
<p>One of the biggest advantages USI brings is device interoperability which allows users to use a USI stylus across different devices (phones, tablets, and computers) that support the standard. Think of it as being able to connect Bluetooth earphones to any phone that has Bluetooth connectivity.</p>
<p>What this means is that you will be able to buy Xiaomi&#8217;s USI stylus and use it with OPPO&#8217;s phone provided that the phone supports the USI standard. The der determine which stylus a user purchases will be its design and price tag.</p>
<p>And just like with every new version of Bluetooth, the USI standard will add new features with every new iteration. For example, Goodix&#8217;s GP850 IC for stylus brings support for wireless charging, Bluetooth connectivity, and tilt support.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h4><strong>Conclusion</strong></h4>
<p>The Galaxy Note series has made a huge impact in the mobile industry especially in popularizing the stylus. Now that Samsung is killing the series and bringing the S Pen to its other phones, one can say that the game has been reset, and now is the right time for other manufacturers to launch their own products with stylus support too. Not only are most phones toting a large display but with foldable phones about to get a lot more popular, a stylus will be a very useful tool especially when the displays are unfolded. And since a stylus will be optional, those who don&#8217;t need it, need not worry about the additional cost.</p>

While a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/16/samsung-not-discontinue-galaxy-note-series-2021/">Samsung official did reveal to the press back in December that the Galaxy Note series will continue in 2021</a>, it appears that will not be the case anymore.</p>
<p>A tweet from the popular Samsung leaker, Ice Universe, seems to confirm that Samsung has pulled the curtain on the Galaxy Note series. The tweet is a picture that reads “The End” and has the caption “Galaxy Note”. Put that together and you can tell that it means it is the end of the Galaxy Note series.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">Galaxy Note <a href="https://t.co/nrE5SbxpRu">pic.twitter.com/nrE5SbxpRu</a></p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s21-ultra-5g/">Galaxy S21 Ultra</a> launched last week as the first Galaxy S series smartphone to have support for the S Pen stylus, although it doesn&#8217;t come with the stylus out of the box. Samsung has also revealed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/14/samsung-spokesman-says-the-s-pen-is-coming-to-more-galaxy-devices/">more Galaxy phones will be getting S Pen support</a>.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">EDITOR&#8217;S PICK:</span> <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2021/01/17/samsung-to-launch-s-pen-pro-for-the-galaxy-s21-ultra-later-this-year/">Samsung to launch S Pen Pro for the Galaxy S21 Ultra later this year</a></strong></p>
<p>Seeing as the S Pen is what defines the Galaxy Note series, is there really a need for the series to exist now that its main feature is now available on Samsung&#8217;s other flagship line? We asked you guys last year via a poll if Samsung should terminate the Galaxy Note series. Below is the result. As you can see, an equal percentage are for and against it.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-366818" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-poll.png?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy Note poll" width="548" height="225" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-poll.png 548w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-poll-300x123.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 548px) 100vw, 548px" /></p>
<p>Samsung is yet to officially announce that it is no longer making new Galaxy Note smartphones, so we advise you to take the info with a grain of salt. However, seeing as the info comes from a source who is known to have plenty of contacts within the Korean giant&#8217;s smartphone business, the chances of it being untrue is very very small.</p>
<p>There is also the possibility that Samsung may have finally decided to pull the plug on the series but after announcing a new model this year. Some other leakers have reported <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/03/leakers-say-the-galaxy-note-21-is-coming-as-a-successor-to-the-galaxy-note-20-ultra/">that the Galaxy Note 21 is in development</a> and it will launch as a successor to the Galaxy Note 20.</p>

<p>The S Pen is what makes the Galaxy Note series special and ever since the series made its debut 9 years ago, no manufacturer has a smartphone line that offers a similar or even better stylus experience than the Galaxy Note series. However, the S Pen is no longer an exclusive of the Galaxy Note line as it is now a feature of some of Samsung&#8217;s tablets.</p>
<p>Now, it has been reported that the S Pen will be making its way to the Galaxy S series <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/24/samsung-may-kill-the-galaxy-note-series-next-year-galaxy-s21-ultra-rumored-to-have-an-s-pen/">starting with next year&#8217;s Galaxy S21 Ultra</a>. The next Galaxy Z Fold may even have a stylus too. If these smartphones now have the feature that makes the Galaxy Note line special, it may make the line redundant.</p>
<p>For this week&#8217;s poll, we want to know if you are for or against Samsung&#8217;s decision to terminate the Galaxy Note series. So please take the poll and also drop a comment sharing your thoughts on the topic.</p>

<p>A report from the Korean publication, <a href="http://www.thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=7216"><em>The Elec</em></a>, says that <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> may be pulling the plug on the Galaxy Note series next year which means the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-20-5g/">Galaxy Note20</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra/">Galaxy Note20 Ultra</a> will be the last of the series.</p>
<p>The source said that Samsung plans to include its S Pen stylus with the Galaxy S21/S30 Ultra, and if that happens, the Galaxy Note series will be redundant seeing as the differences, especially with respect to size, between the S series and the Note series are now minimal.</p>
<p>Samsung will most likely shift its focus to the Fold series for the second half of the year and there are rumors the successor to the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold2-5g/">Galaxy Z Fold 2</a> may also come with a S Pen too. It has also been reported that the Galaxy S21 series will ditch the ToF camera, a feature available on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s20-plus/">Galaxy S20 Plus</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s20-ultra/">Galaxy S20 Ultra</a>.</p>
<p>The Galaxy Note series still command respectable sales, with figures going up to 10 million. It remains to be seen if Samsung can transfer this figure to the sales of the S series when the Note series is killed off. The Galaxy Z line of foldables is far from pulling those numbers. Not only are people still waiting for the technology to get better but foldable phones are quite expensive and out of the reach of many.</p>
<p>Anyway, until the above info is confirmed, we advise you to take it with a pinch of salt. Nevertheless, do let us know what you think about the possibility of Samsung killing the Note series. Yay or nay?</p>

While the early generations of Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices had considerably different screen size, with the latest generation of smartphones that difference has reduced drastically.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-281034 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="770" height="655" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1-300x255.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1-768x653.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1-696x592.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-1-494x420.jpg 494w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<p>For refernce, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s10-exynos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy S10</a> has a 6.1 inch dipslay, on the other hand, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-note-10/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Galaxy Note 10</a> has a 6.3 inch display and this negligible difference might not be enough to justify having two entirely different lineups. Having said that, these lineups do have one feature that can easily draw a distinguishing line which is the &#8216;S-Pen&#8217; found on Galaxy Note smartphones.</p>
<p>According to a freshly granted patent, Samsung is developing another foldable smartphone, but unlike the Galaxy Fold, this device is compatible with S-Pen and will support air gestures.</p>
<p>Both aspects i.e neglible difference between Galaxy Note and Galaxy S devices, and the newly patented foldable phone with S-Pen supports suggests Samsung might be &#8220;looking forward to unify the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Note lineup&#8221;.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-281036 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="770" height="508" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3.jpg 770w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3-300x198.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3-768x507.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3-696x459.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-3-637x420.jpg 637w" sizes="(max-width: 770px) 100vw, 770px" /></p>
<h6 class="related"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/07/huawei-mate-30-pro-google-apps-workaround-working-fine/">Huawei Mate 30 Pro Google Apps workaround is reportedly still working fine</a></strong></h6>
<p>Talking more about the Samsung smartphone from the patent, it has a clamshell like design which is dissimilar to the Galaxy Fold. Clearly, Samsung is not aimig towards making a smartphone-tablet hybrid, instead, the concept behind it seems similar to the foldable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/10/01/foldable-moto-razr-will-launch-before-the-end-of-2019-claims-fresh-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Moto Razr which is reproted to launch before the end of 2019</a>.</p>
<p>Besides, the hinge of this Samsung smartphone can open upto an estimed angle of 270 degrees. In contrast, the Galaxy Fold was limited to just 180 degrees.</p>
<p>The patent also exhibits an interesting feature of the device that is being able to move icons or content from one half of the screen to the other without having to maintian a  continuous drag with stylus  or finger. Instead, the screen of such a device will be equipped with a special layer that can sense the tip of the stylus or finger without having to physically touch it. Therefore users can first select an icon by tapping on it and then they can move the stylus or finger in mid air (staying close enough so it can stay registered) to the other half even when in a folded state. The illustration shared below will make it easier to understand.<img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter wp-image-281035 size-large" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-1024x577.png?x10805" alt="" width="696" height="392" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-1024x577.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2-746x420.png 746w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Galaxy-Fold-with-S-Pen-2.png 1119w" sizes="(max-width: 696px) 100vw, 696px" /></p>
<p>It is well known that Samsung Galaxy Fold&#8217;s display is made out of soft plastic and it can be easily scratched. Accordingly, Samsung will have to first overcome this hurdle in order to make a commercially available foldable smartphone that supports S-Pen.</p>
<p>While the launch of this device still seems distant, Samsung is expected to showcase its second generation of foldable handsets at the MWC 2020 event which is scheduled for 24th and 27th February.</p>
<p>All in all, nothing has been set in the stone and we would recommend taking this handset with a grain of salt until future developments.</p>
<p>We will keep you updated, so stay tuned.</p>

However, just before its release, a sharp-eyed traveler in China seems to have captured the prototype model of the Note 10+ in the video. The video was later shared on China&#8217;s Weibo.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Image-from-iOS-23.jpg?x10805"><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-268331 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Image-from-iOS-23.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note 10+" width="640" height="612" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Image-from-iOS-23.jpg 640w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Image-from-iOS-23-300x287.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Image-from-iOS-23-439x420.jpg 439w" sizes="(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></a></p>
<p>In the video, we can see a user playing around with the Note 10+ prototype and its UI. As previously seen in renders and leaks, the phone carries a very high screen to body ratio with the selfie camera placed on the top center of the display. While the screen looks flat in the video, it&#8217;s likely because the curves are hidden by the case. Prototype models are usually pretty well covered by cases and that seems to be applicable here as well.</p>
<p><iframe loading="lazy" width="696" height="522" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/iEcTDOT5mqk?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe></p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-note-10-plus">Galaxy Note 10+</a> is shaping up to be one of the best screen to body ratio smartphones this year. The phone is said to feature a top and bottom bezel of just 2mm and 3.7mm respectively. Even the side bezels are said to be limited to just 1.5mm bringing you a true full-screen experience.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Editor&#8217;s Pick: <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/02/samsung-releases-teaser-video-for-exynos-9825-launches-august-7/">Samsung releases teaser video for Exynos 9825, launches August 7</a></strong></p>
<p>If you remember, we have already seen the device in action before in a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/08/02/samsung-galaxy-note-10-series-handson-video-leak/">hands-on video</a>. The phone is said to feature a 6.8-inch Dynamic <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/amoled">AMOLED</a> display with QHD+ resolution. There should be either <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon">Snapdragon</a> 855 Plus or Exynos 9820 inside depending upon the region. At the back, expect to find a quad-camera setup with 12MP f/1.5-2.5 variable aperture primary camera, 12MP f/2.1 telephoto lens, 16MP ultra-wide lens, and a ToF sensor. As for the battery, there should be a large 4300mAh capacity one inside with 45W fast charging.</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-216814" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 20 with stylus" width="720" height="961" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus.jpg 720w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px" /></p>
<p>In the images, we can see three phones placed under the Mate 20 stand- two which stand side-by-side and have a similar size while a much larger one is propped up on the right. The pictures are blurry but we believe the two phones on the left are the Mate 20 Pro and the Mate 20.</p>
<p>The larger device which is on the right is the one with a stylus albeit a pretty big one. We presume this is the Mate 20X said to be aimed at gamers, but from the images, it seems Huawei has added stylus support as one of its distinguishing features.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-216813" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-b.jpg?x10805" alt="Huawei Mate 20 with stylus" width="960" height="720" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-b.jpg 960w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-b-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-b-768x576.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/Huawei-Mate-20-with-stylus-b-160x120.jpg 160w" sizes="(max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px" /></p>
<p><a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> is no doubt the king of stylus-toting phones with its Galaxy Note series and no manufacturer has been able to take the crown from it. However, Huawei seems to want to make an attempt with the Mate 20 X.</p>
<p>Obviously, the stylus doesn&#8217;t fit into the device, so Samsung has the upper hand here. We also have no idea what features Huawei has added to the Mate 20X with respect to stylus support so we can&#8217;t say if it measures up to that of the Note series. Nevertheless, we are eager to see the stylus in action.</p>

<p>The Mate 20X will come with an AMOLED display like its siblings but much larger in size. It will also have a Kirin 980 processor and quad rear cameras but is expected to pack a bigger battery and also have a cooling technology to keep the phone from heating up during extended gaming sessions.</p>
<p>The Mate 20 series will be unveiled in London. The event will be live-streamed and will begin at 2 pm British time which corresponds to 9 pm in China and 6:30 pm in India.</p>

<p>This also comes at a time when Samsung&#8217;s dominance in the smartphone market is under threat due to the rise of the Chinese companies. As a part of the company&#8217;s new strategy, boardroom meetings and partner pitches have been related to the merging of the company&#8217;s two flagship smartphone series &#8212; Galaxy S and Galaxy Note into just one. This is mainly because of the overlap of smartphones from both series.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="size-full wp-image-199356 aligncenter" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Galaxy-Note-9-Case-Renders.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note 9 Case Renders 1" width="600" height="436" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Galaxy-Note-9-Case-Renders.jpg 600w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/Galaxy-Note-9-Case-Renders-300x218.jpg 300w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>Apparently, the company is considering to ditch the Galaxy Note-series and make the Galaxy S-series as the top-end version. So, there&#8217;s a possibility that instead of the Galaxy Note 10 next year, we may be presented with a Galaxy S10+ with S Pen Stylus support.</p>
<p>This could also save millions of dollars for the company in the development, production, and marketing. Currently, there are reports making rounds suggesting the upcoming <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s10/">Galaxy S10</a> series will consist of three smartphones, which could be because of the merging of Note into the S-series. However, there could also be just an additional anniversary edition in the S10 lineup.</p>
<p>As for the Galaxy Note 9, the South Korean giant is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/06/27/samsung-sends-out-invitation-for-august-9-galaxy-note-9-launch/">all set to unveil</a> its next flagship smartphone in New York on 9th August. The smartphone will be coming with 6.3-inch S-AMOLED Infinity Display and will be powered by Snapdragon 845 processor in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, China, Hong Kong and Japan while the rest of the world will get Exynos 9810 processor.</p>
<p>The smartphone packs 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will feature dual rear cameras with variable aperture and will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery. There is a possibility that there will be an advanced model featuring <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2018/07/04/samsung-galaxy-note-9-shines-on-geekbench-with-8-gb-ram/">8GB RAM</a> and 256GB/512GB internal storage.</p>

<p>According to the reports, Samsung plans to produce 7.5 million units of the Note 9. It will produce around 2.5 million units per month for the first three months from July to September. From October to December, the company plans to ship about 4.5 million units (about 1.5 million units per month). The report adds that the shipment plans for October to December may vary depending on initial sales volume.</p>

Over the years, the S-Pen has evolved &#8211; it now packs more features and is also waterproof. Nevertheless, more features may be coming according to a new patent release.</p>
<p>The patent application filed at the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) will allow users control their phone with the S Pen and finger at the same time.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168507" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note S-Pen and Finger Touch" width="1024" height="620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-300x182.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-768x465.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>Images provided show a settings screen where you can choose the input method for an application. Like in the one above, which lists various screen scrolling methods, you can choose to use a combination of finger touch and S-Pen where the S-Pen is for input or where the finger is for input.</p>
<p>You can also configure how the stylus should respond when the screen senses a finger touch. An example is shown in the image below where the thickness of the line is increased when the user taps and holds the screen.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168504" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-4.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note S-Pen and Finger Touch" width="1024" height="620" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-4.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-4-300x182.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-4-768x465.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168506" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-2.jpg?x10805" alt="" width="1024" height="468" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-2.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-2-300x137.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-2-768x351.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>
<p>Samsung has also added a number of hand gestures that serve as shortcuts. Drawing a Z will move to the next memo and drawing it in a mirror-like fashion takes you to the previous memo. You can also add an attachment or delete a memo by drawing a circle clockwisely or  anti-clockwisely respectively.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-168505" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-3.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Note S-Pen and Finger Touch" width="1024" height="452" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-3.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-3-300x132.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Galaxy-Note-S-Pen-and-Finger-Touch-3-768x339.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></p>

<p>The patent which was filed back on September 25, 2017 has now been published on WIPO&#8217;s website. However, this is not the first time Samsung has requested for a patent for it. The first time was in 2013 at the Korean patent office and in 2014 at the US Patent and Trademark Office. As you can see, there are still bezels and a front-mounted fingerprint scanner in the sample images.</p>
<p>Now that it has received a global approval, we may see it debut in the Galaxy Note 9.</p>
