While the Galaxy Note20 Ultra has continued to receive rave reviews, the same can’t be said of the Note20. Most complaints are centred around the display lacking a high refresh rate and the presence of a plastic back panel.

Turns out that the internals of the device isn’t one to be happy about. YouTuber channel PBKreviews has shared a video teardown of the vanilla Note20 giving us our first peek at the internals of the cheaper new Note. Sadly, the arrangement of the internal components means the device won’t be an easy one to repair.

The teardown started rolling with the reviewer taking off the back cover, first by applying heat and using the pry tool. Removing the back cover reveals the internal components, prominent of which is the 12MP wide and 64MP telephoto cameras which boast OIS. Heading down, you’ll find the wireless charging pad, earpiece and the 4,300 mAh battery. The S Pen dock is tucked in right next to the battery.

Talking of the battery, there is no pull tabs on the body which makes it difficult to remove the battery should there be any reason to want to do so. The only way to take it out is to heat up the adhesive and then apply alcohol. Then it becomes easy to yank it off using the pry tool.

The Galaxy Note20 features an under-screen fingerprint sensor and it is located under the battery compartment. The sensor is part of the display and is not easy to replace without prior knowledge. The display can be taken off after all the internal components are removed. All that is needed is some heat and the pry tool.

It is not unusual for Samsung to have its flagships available in more colors than originally announced. However, some of these colorways are usually exclusive to certain markets and or carriers.

German leaker and tech blogger, Roland Quandt (@rquandt) also shared a tweet that includes images of the red Galaxy Note20. According to him, the color variant was teased by Korea Telecom. He also stated that the blue one is coming to SK Telecom, which is another South Korean carrier.

There is no info yet on if any of these colorways will be available in other countries. If you like these new color variants and don’t mind waiting, you may hold off pre-ordering the device.

However, it seems that the South Korean giant isn’t expecting as much demand as its predecessor for the new devices.

As per the report coming from The Elec, Samsung has ordered about 20 percent fewer components for the Galaxy Note20 series. However, if that’s actually the case, then it is likely for the initial batch only and if the company sees a surge in demand, it can procure more components.

The report claims that Samsung is expecting initial shipments of three million units for the latest Note-series flagship smartphones. Further, it adds that the total expected shipments for the lineup stand at around 10 million units by the end of this year.

The move of ordering 20 percent fewer components for the Galaxy Note20 series could be because of the less than anticipated demand for the Galaxy S20 series smartphones launched earlier this year.

EDITOR’S PICK: Samsung announces plans for 6G technology; Launch expected by the end of this decade

Also, the company’s sale of smartphones has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and since major markets still haven’t recovered, the company is likely keeping the stock volume low for the initial batches.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra was the best-selling model in the lineup and the company also expects a similar situation with the newly launched series. It expects Galaxy Note20 Ultra to account for 70 percent to 80 percent sales among the two models.

The Samsung Galaxy Note20 comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, for a price of $999.99. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is priced at $1,299.99 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and $1,499.99 for the 12GB + 512GB version. Both models will go on sale from August 21st.

The new report claims that the Exynos 990 has been improved and seems more like 990 Plus.

According to the leaker, SamChun (@Boby25846908), the Galaxy Note20 will sell for INR 77,999 (~$1042) while the Galaxy Note20 Ultra 5G will sell for INR 105,999 (~$1416). He claims that these are official prices and adds that the Galaxy Note20 coming to India is the 4G version. Unfortunately, he did not state the configuration of the phones.

No doubt these prices are high and more expensive than several of the phones India has gotten in recent months, but this is the Galaxy Note series we are talking about, and they are usually not cheap. Those who want a cheaper Galaxy Note will have to wait for the Galaxy Note20 Lite if there will be one.

The Galaxy Note20 has a 6.7-inch 2400 x 1080 display that is flat and has a 60Hz refresh rate. The Indian variant will be powered by the Exynos 990 processor and should have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. For its cameras, the phone will pack triple sensors in a 12MP + 12MP + 64MP configuration. Other features are Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 6, IP68 rating, stereo speakers, dual-SIM support, and a 4300mAh battery.

The render was posted on Twitter by Roland Quandt (@rquandt) and he confirms again that the phone will be available in both 4G and 5G variants. The phone has a Mint (Green) paint job with a matching S Pen. The color looks really good and may as well be my favorite of three variants.

If you want to know what the standard Galaxy Note20 looks like and packs in terms of specs, you are in luck, as a leak has revealed its complete spec sheet as well as official renders.

The source of the leak is none other than the German website, Winfuture.de, and they say the flagship will come in 4G and 5G variants.

The Galaxy Note20 ditches the curved display of its predecessor for a flat one. However, it is larger at 6.7-inches and its resolution is 2400 x 1080. It also has a hole in the middle for the selfie camera. This is a Super AMOLED panel and there is no high refresh rate.

Under the hood is the Exynos 990 processor (yeah, we already knew this was going to happen). While it will handle anything you throw at it, there will be a significant gap in performance between it and the Snapdragon 865 Plus version that will sell in China and the US. Europe will get the phone in a single variant – 8GB RAM + 256GB, but we won’t be surprised if new configurations are available in other regions.

EDITOR’S PICK: Samsung announces plans for 6G – Launch Expected By the End of the Decade

Coming to cameras, the Galaxy Note20 is shown to pack triple rear sensors. Two of these are 12MP sensors with one having 1.8µm pixels and dual-pixel autofocus while the other is an ultrawide angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 1.4µm pixels. The third camera is a 64MP f/2.0 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 1.0µm pixels. The device will be able to record in 8K and also have 30x Space Zoom.

The Galaxy Note20 will have NFC, Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 6, dual-GPS, and a USB-C gen 3.2 port. The phone packs stereo speakers tuned by AKG, dual SIM support, eSIM support, and also has an IP68 rating. It packs a 4300mAh battery which is a big bump from the 3500mAh capacity of the Galaxy Note10. There is support for fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging but the power rating wasn’t revealed.

Oh! Of course, there is a stylus with a latency of 26ms (not as low as that of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra). It also has support for Microsoft’s Cloud game streaming service. No surprises here seeing as Samsung already killed off its short-lived PlayGalaxy Link streaming service early this year. If you picked up the Glap Controller last year, it should still work with the Galaxy Note20 series.

The Galaxy Note20 also supports the new Wireless DeX mode that allows you to use the device in a desktop-like interface on an external display without the need for wires.

The phone will be available in Mystic Black, Mystic Bronze, and Mystic Green when it launches on August 5.

The upcoming Galaxy Note20 series will follow the same trend.

It has been reported that the Snapdragon variant of the Note20 series will be powered by the newly-announced Snapdragon 865 Plus. However, it appears the reports that the Exynos variant will come with an Exynos 992 processor are false.

A tweet by the popular leaker Ice Universe has revealed the Galaxy Note20 series will have the Exynos 990 processor that powers the Galaxy S20 series and not the rumored, more powerful Exynos 992 chipset.

Damn, Exynos990 continues.

— Ice universe (@UniverseIce) July 11, 2020

His tweet was corroborated by Max Weinbach of XDA-Developers who tweeted that he has seen no reference of the chipset in the firmware he has his hands on.

Can confirm. I have found no references to any new chip other than Snapdragon 865+ in the firmware's I have on hand.

The Exynos 990 will be used in the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra. https://t.co/AGee7eHv8F

This is surely devastating news for those who will be purchasing the Exynos variant of the Note20 series. The Exynos 990 can’t even match the performance of the Snapdragon 865 processor. Comparisons between the Exynos 990 and Snapdragon 865 have shown that the former lags significantly when it comes to GPU performance. This means there will even be a wider gap between it and the new Snapdragon 865 Plus.

The Galaxy Note20 series unpacked event is scheduled for August 5. Samsung will also announce the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Buds Live, and Galaxy Z Flip 5G at the event.

Now, ahead of the launch of the upcoming Note-series flagship smartphones, a report claims that the South Korean giant isn’t keeping high expectations from the lineup in terms of sales, at least for the initial phase.

Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra Render

The report further goes on to add that Samsung is being cautious about ordering too many components for the new phones from its suppliers because of lower sales expectations. The primary reason for this is being cited as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Samsung has also been struggling with the sales of its Galaxy S20 lineup, the number of which stands lower than the sales number of Galaxy S10 series. As per the data available, Samsung sold 3.5 million units of the Galaxy S20 Plus in Q1 2020 while the company had sold 5.2 million units of Galaxy S10 in Q1 2019.

EDITOR’S PICK: Samsung discovers amorphous boron nitride that could lead the semiconductor paradigm shift

The entire Galaxy S20 lineup, which includes Galaxy S20, S20 Plus, and S20 Ultra, managed to sell 8.2 million units in the first quarter of this year. Do keep in mind that the smartphone was announced in February this year and went on sale in the month of March. So, the device had been on sale for just three weeks in the first quarter of this year.

However, the pandemic is also one of the reasons behind the lower sales numbers for the latest Galaxy S-series flagship smartphones from Samsung. And it seems that the company will continue facing the same issues with the upcoming Galaxy Note20 series.

The phones will pack new features including a more powerful processor, improved cameras, and displays with a high refresh rate. These features and other unmentioned ones are why we are not surprised at the report that says it will be the most expensive in the history of the series.

According to a tweet by a Twitter user that goes by @Ricciolo1, the Galaxy Note20 series will be the most expensive (Galaxy) Note ever.

and YES … the Note 20 Series will be the most EXPENSIVE note EVER …

There is no info on the price from the source but seeing as the Galaxy Note10 had a launch price of $950, the Note20 will most likely have a starting price of $999 or more. The Galaxy Note20 Ultra whose official renders leaked a few days ago should sell for a much higher price tag.

The Galaxy Note20 series will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865+ processor which isn’t expected to be cheap based on the price of the slightly-less powerful Snapdragon 865. It has also been reported that the variant that will be sold outside the US and China will come with the new Exynos 992 processor which is an upgraded version of the Exynos 990 in the Galaxy S20 series.

Will you be purchasing the Galaxy Note20 series regardless of the price tag? Do let us know in the comment box below.

However, the S20 Ultra suffers from a focusing issue where the focus of the camera is much slower, and sometimes it misses the subject altogether. Reports indicate that this could be because of the lack of dual-pixel PDAF on the 108MP sensor.

Now, Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy Note20 series smartphones in the coming months and as per the report, the focusing issue with the 108MP camera sensor has been resolved on the upcoming devices. But what exactly did the company do to solve the issue has not been revealed yet.

As for the chipset, all the models of the Galaxy Note20 lineup will come powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus SoC, which as the name itself indicates, is an upgraded variant of the SD865 chipset.

Not just the Note20 series, the Galaxy Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G, and the Galaxy Tab S7 are also said to come powered by the Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset. However, in some regions, the devices could be powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 992 SoC.

Samsung typically announces the Galaxy Note series flagship smartphones in the month of August and is expected to follow the trend this year as well. As per the reports, Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event could be hosted on 5th August but the company is yet to confirm the launch date. If this turns out to be true, then it will be the first online-only Unpacked event from the South Korean giant, because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It remains to be seen if the company decides to start selling the smartphone soon after the official announcement, given that the sales could be impacted if the situation doesn’t improve anytime soon. The Samsung Galaxy S20 series, despite being the leader in 5G smartphone sales in the United States, is underperforming compared to its predecessors.

According to a tweet by Ice Universe, Samsung is snatching up more than half of the Snapdragon 865+ stock for its phones. The leaker revealed that the Galaxy Note20 series, the Galaxy Tab S7 series, the Galaxy Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will all come with the new processor.

We are particularly happy about the Galaxy Note20 series getting the chipset seeing as the Samsung Galaxy Note10 series launched with the Snapdragon 855 even rather than the Snapdragon 855+. Of course, expect the Note20 series to come with the Exynos 992 in some markets.

It is also interesting to see that the Galaxy Tab S7 series will be getting the Snapdragon 865+ too as its predecessor also launched with the Snapdragon 855 instead of the Snapdragon 855+.

With more than five Samsung devices launching with the new chipset, we hope other manufacturers will be able to get sufficient stock for their own devices.

The source of the leak is Ross Young, the founder and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), and his tweets revealed key details about the screens of the Galaxy Note20 and the Galaxy Note20+.

Galaxy Note20 Display Specifications

According to Ross, the Galaxy Note20 will have a bigger display than its predecessor; 6.42-inches to be exact. It will also have a slightly increased 2345 x 1080 resolution, so the PPI remains 401. The aspect ratio is revealed to be 19.5:9, an increase from the 19:9 aspect ratio of the Galaxy Note10.

The big news is that the display will have a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is a Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) display that uses low power. This should help reduce battery consumption even with 120Hz mode permanents set to on.

Note 20 Display Leak:
Note 20 will grow from 6.3" on the 10 to 6.42" on the Note 20. Resolution will increase slightly to 2345 x 1084, 404 PPI, 19.5:9 aspect ratio. 120Hz with LTPO, variable refresh, so lower power with 120Hz, great for always on mode. #GalaxyNote20

Note 20+ Display Leak
Note 20+ will grow from 6.8" to 6.87", resolution will increase to 3096 x 1444 resulting in a 497 PPI, 19.3:9 aspect ratio. It will also have 120Hz refresh with LTPO, lowest power implementation of 120Hz due to variable refresh. #GalaxyNote20+

— Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) May 11, 2020

Galaxy Note20+ Display Specifications

The Galaxy Note20+ will have a slightly bigger screen that measures 6.87-inches. The resolution goes up to 3096 x 1444 and translates to a PPI of 497 while the aspect ratio will be 19.3:9.

Just like the standard version, the Galaxy Note20+ will have a 120Hz refresh rate and an LTPO panel.

No Galaxy Note20 Ultra

While Samsung launched a Galaxy S20 Ultra earlier this year, it won’t be replicating the Ultra model with the Galaxy Note20 according to Ross. However, he added that “…the Galaxy Fold 2 will be your Ultra.”

No Galaxy Note Ultra model, but the Galaxy Fold 2 will be your Ultra. #GalaxyNote

Earlier reports have revealed the Galaxy Fold 2 will come with a new type of S Pen, so it makes sense that there will not be a Galaxy Note20 Ultra. Anyone who wants a bigger Galaxy Note with a stylus should go for the Fold 2, though it will definitely not be cheap.

There is no info on a successor to the Galaxy Note10 Lite.
