Last week, the Samsung Health beta app revealed support for Galaxy Ring suggesting that the brand might introduce its own smart ring or compatibility for smart rings made by other brands. The company has also trademarked smart ring monikers this year including three of them – Samsung Circle, Samsung Index, and Samsung Insight monikers last week. This has very well reignited the topic of a smart ring made by the South Korean brand. 

Samsung trademarks more names related to smart rings and wearables

In a new development, Samsung has filed a trademark for three new monikers – Galaxy One, Galaxy Pulse, and Galaxy Rhythm. They were discovered at the Korea Intellectual Property Rights Information Service (KIPRIS) by GalaxyClub. This isn’t the first time Samsung is filing trademark applications for an under-development wearable device. 

The previous trademarks pertaining to the Galaxy Circle, Galaxy Index, and Galaxy Insight classified them as “smart rings, smartwatches, smartphones, and wearable computers”. The filings for the new monikers classify them as “wearables, such as smart rings, bracelets, necklaces, and glasses.”

The report adds that the documentation attached to the applications reveals the software details mentioning “software application for smart rings for tracking, gathering, monitoring, detecting, recognizing, malfunctioning, transmitting, managing and assessing biometric and physiological data, vital signs and personal health records, and for providing medical advice.”

At this point, it remains to be seen what Samsung has in store for smart rings. A patent application from 2015 revealed that Samsung’s smart ring could be used to control smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and smart home devices along with offering better health-tracking results. We will have to wait and see about the South Korean brand’s plans to launch its first smart ring.
