As confirmed yesterday, Samsung officially launches Galaxy S20 FE in India. The smartphone will be available in a single 8GB + 128GB storage configuration priced at ₹49,999 ($681). Interested customers can pre-book the handset starting October 9.

They will be able to pick it up in either of the five colors namely Cloud Red, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White. The company is also offering benefits worth up to ₹8,000 as part of the launch offer – ₹4,000 Samsung e-store benefit and ₹4,000 cashback via HDFC cards or ₹3,000 upgrade bonus.

The Galaxy S20  FE is the most affordable Galaxy S series smartphone released this year. The company says that his handset is a direct result of the pandemic, however, it has confirmed to launch more Fan Edition (FE) phones in the future.

This device inherits all the loved features front its bigger siblings like 120Hz refresh rate, 15W wireless charging, 4.5W reverse wireless charging, IP68 dust & water resistance, 8K video recording, and Samsung DeX.

It sports a 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display on the front with a top-centered 32MP punch-hole selfie camera. The sides of this phone are made of metal but the rear panel is polycarbonate, just like the Galaxy Note20.

The vertically-aligned triple camera setup on the back of the handset includes a 12 MP primary sensor, an 8MP sensor with a 3x telephoto lens, and another 12MP sensor with a 123˚ ultra-wide lens.

Other features of the Galaxy S20 FE for India include Exynos 990, One UI 2.5 based on Android 10, dual-SIM, 4G, in-display fingerprint sensor (optical), WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, BDS, GALILEO), NFC, Samsung Pay, accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass, barometer, stereo speakers, USB Type-C port, and microSD card slot.

Due to pandemic and costlier price tags, the Galaxy S20 series did not sell well. Samsung predicted it quickly when the COVID-19 virus started spreading globally and begun to develop Galaxy S20 FE, a stripped-down version of its flagship smartphones at an affordable price tag of $699. It was unveiled in September for western markets and is expected to launch this month in India. Ahead of it, its starting price for the Indian market leaks.

The Galaxy S20 FE comes in two variants primarily. The standard Galaxy S20 FE (LTE) with Exynos 990 and Galaxy S20 FE 5G with Snapdragon 865. The latter variant is sold only in the markets where 5G is a thing, whereas the other markets get the 4G variant.

Further, talking about storage configurations, the device can be once again divided into three versions – 6GB +128GB, 8GB + 128GB, and 8GB + 256GB. However, it is worth noting that not all three variants are available in all the regions.

That said, according to an exclusive leak by 91Mobiles citing retail sources, the base variant for India will sell for ₹49,999 ($682). It is not sure which of the first two storage configurations will be sold as a base variant in India but still, the price is on-par with western markets 

Anyway, it is worth noting that the model coming to India will be powered by Exynos which is not bad per se but it does fall behind its Qualcomm counterpart in terms of overall performance and battery life.
