This problem has plagued devices across various brands, with Samsung and OnePlus being among the most affected. In this article, I’ll share my personal experience with Samsung’s service center regarding this issue and whether they lived up to the expectations.

The Green Line Problem

The green line issue has become increasingly common among devices with AMOLED displays, with users often linking it to software updates. In my case, too, the problem appeared after a software update, and while the rest of the display functioned perfectly, the persistent green line on the left side of the screen was unsightly and concerning. Initially, I was given a three-day timeline for the repair. However, when the third day passed without any communication from the service center, I decided to visit them. They explained that the replacement parts were still on their way and that the repair would take an additional three days. While this delay was inconvenient, I understood that sometimes parts can be delayed, and I appreciated their transparency.

After another three days, I finally received a call informing me that my phone was ready for pickup. I rushed to the service center to collect it, eager to see the results.

Outcome

Upon receiving my phone, I inspected the repair thoroughly. They replaced the display and the green line was gone. To my surprise, the service center also replaced the battery, stating that it was necessary while changing the display. This was an unexpected but welcome bonus, as it effectively refreshed my device’s overall performance.

The staff was courteous and professional throughout the process. However, they did attempt to sell me a 5G radiation-reducing chip, which I politely declined. This minor upsell attempt aside, my experience with the Samsung service center was overwhelmingly positive.

Final Thoughts

In the end, my experience with Samsung’s service center was a reassuring one. They addressed the green line issue effectively, kept me informed throughout the process, and even took the initiative to replace the battery. While I can’t speak for every service center, my experience suggests that Samsung’s customer service, at least in this instance, is reliable and customer-focused.

It’s been nearly 2 years since I bought the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE for under Rs 20,000 from the brand’s official website during the 2022 festive sales. Not only did it seem like a pretty good deal at the time, but it was my first smartphone purchase in years. Phones are a lot more capable now and I’ve even used devices ranging from the budget to flagships since then. Despite all of this, I still have no plans to upgrade anytime soon.

Why I’m still fine with my Galaxy S21 FE: Design & Display

One of my top priorities with a smartphone has always been the design and display. The Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t disappoint with its 6.4-inch AMOLED display that offers an FHD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR10+.

So watching videos or movies has always been a pleasant experience. Samsung is also well known for its AMOLED panels and every aspect ranging from its size, resolution, and brightness has been near perfect for me.

I’m not a big fan of tall displays since these phones always felt too big and bulky for my hands. A lot of premium smartphones have also become pretty hefty as well, often nearing or surpassing the 200g mark.

Thanks to the plastic back and thin and light design, the Galaxy S21 weighing 177g feels light and easy to hold. Measuring just 7.9mm in thickness, it’s not the thinnest but the weight and size hits a sweet spot.

Consistent Performance

The Galaxy S21 FE is undoubtedly slightly outdated at this point and I won’t recommend people to buy it in 2024 unless Samsung has another crazy sale. Gaming is a passion but playing on a phone was never for me. So the bells and whistles of the newest top end processors were never an immediate priority.

To put it simply, the Exynos 2100 is capable. You won’t find any glaring issues and it chugs through whatever is thrown at it. Sure it heats up, but in the Indian summer, that is more or less given for any phone.

Samsung’s software support hasn’t disappointed either and my S21 FE will also be receiving the Android 15 update as well. Unfortunately, the S21 lineup as a whole didn’t receive the AI features with the OneUI 6.1 update, although every other aspect of the UI isn’t lacking.

I still get access to Samsung DeX and other quality-of-life features that I often use. After almost 2 years, the Galaxy S21 FE doesn’t suffer from obsolescence, at least not yet. Hopefully, this is not foreshadowing.

Versatile Cameras

I believe that the best camera is always the one you have at hand, and despite having a 12-megapixel triple camera setup, the S21 FE has got the job done (for the most part). You can check out some of these random images I’ve taken from my phone to get an idea for yourself.

For the price I bought this device for, I’m content with a usable telephoto and ultra wide angle lens. It even comes in handy with my work on occasion as I also take pictures of review units if I don’t have a proper camera ready.

It’s not all perfect

The 25W wired fast charging is honestly pretty lackluster and its 4,500mAh battery pack while decent, doesn’t last me through a day. There might be days that the S21 FE requires charging two or more times. While the Exynos chip’s performance doesn’t bother me much, the poor battery efficiency can not be overlooked.

As capable as the cameras are on this phone, it still leaves more to be desired. Its low-light performance in particular is its biggest weakness. Coming from a phone with a glass back, the plastic rear panel was a bit off-putting. But if you’re using a cover like me, you know it isn’t that big of an issue.

All in all, do I wish that I had a better phone at times? Yes. Do I really feel like it’s worth leaving a fully capable device for something new and spending tens of thousands of rupees? No. One could argue that I have a “budget” in mind and squeeze the value from my phone, which is true to some extent. But this is just my two cents.

Nothing did tempt me recently with its new and refreshing designs, but I’ll still hold off for the time being.

According to a recent report that has surfaced online, Samsung has started releasing a September security patch for Galaxy S21 FE.

For those unaware, previously, the company released the September patch for the carrier-locked version of the smartphone. It seems that the brand has now allowed the unlocked version of the smartphone to receive the update as well. Read on to learn more about the update.

As per a recent report by SAMmobile, the update arrives on Galaxy S21 FE with the build version ending in EWH2 in the US. The security patch fixes over 62 security vulnerabilities found in the previous update. Furthermore, Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 FE in January 2022. The smartphone arrived with Android 12 pre-installed and was expected to receive four major Android updates. Samsung is rolling out the July 2023 security patch to its Galaxy S21 FE devices in India, following the successful rollout to its S22, S23, and other flagship and midrange series. The firmware version G990EXXS7EWG1 update, of 256MB size, rectifies over 90 security vulnerabilities identified in the earlier software, without offering any additional features or performance enhancements. This security patch might be the final minor update prior to the forthcoming One UI 5.1.1 update.

What’s new in this update?

The new patch resolves 90 security issues impacting Galaxy tablets and smartphones. Among these, Google has provided 52 solutions, while Samsung developed 38 fixes. Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 FE in early 2022 ahead of the Galaxy S22 series launch. The device comes powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 depending on the market it is sold in.

As usual, India got the Exynos version. But now, one and a half years later, Samsung launched the Snapdragon variant of the smartphone in the country recently. For the unaware, the same happened with the Galaxy S20 FE a couple of years ago.

Exynos chips are notorious for poor thermals, performance throttling, and less efficiency. So despite being a good handset overall, the Galaxy S21 FE featuring the Exynos 2100 is subjected to these issues.

However, Samsung began offering heavy discounts on the phone a few months after its release. This made it a comparatively good value than when it debuted for consumers who are not heavy users.

Right now, the company has stopped selling the Exynos model by replacing it with the Snapdragon variant. But the new version is priced at ₹49,999, which is about the same as the price of the original Exynos variant at launch.

Samsung has recently released the May 2023 security update for the Galaxy S21 FE 5G in India. The latest firmware version, G990EXXS6EWE3, is being rolled out to users, who can easily install the update by downloading a 233.53 MB package. It is worth noting that the update has already been made available in various countries, including Brazil and Europe.

What’s new in this update for Samsung Galaxy S21 FE?

With the May 2023 security patch, Samsung addresses a total of 72 security vulnerabilities found across their smartphones and tablets. Among these, six fixes are critical, four of which pertain to all Android devices, and two are specific to Samsung phones. Additionally, 56 fixes are classified as High severity, and 10 fixes are labeled as Moderate. Notably, Samsung has already addressed two of the vulnerabilities before in the April 2023 security patch, while one fix suggested by Google is not applicable to Samsung devices.

The security flaws that were identified encompassed areas such as the FactoryTest function, ActivityManagerService, kernel pointers exposure in the log file, Theme Manager, GearManagerStub, and the Tips app. Furthermore, vulnerabilities were discovered in the Shannon modem present in Exynos processors, bootloader, Telephony framework, call settings components, and AppLock access control. Samsung has diligently resolved these issues in addition to fixing 58 security flaws addressed by Google.

Users of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will receive a notification to download and install the update once it becomes available. Alternatively, users can manually initiate the installation process by navigating to Settings, selecting Software Update, and then opting for Download and Install.

Back in January 2022, Samsung had launched the Galaxy S21 FE smartphone. But just over a month later, owners of the new high end device have already been complaining about a laggy experience.

For those unaware, the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy S21 FE sports a 6.4 inch display that has a 120Hz maximum refresh rate. However, despite having an impressive refresh rate, which should translate to a smooth user interface overall, many owners have been having a laggy experience. According to some users, the device seems to try and display a refresh rate lower than even the standard 60Hz. In other words, one would feel a noticeable lag and even see stutters in performance.

This was especially noticeable with the UI animations, as per one support forum thread. The thread has even seen several reports that all point to a similar issue. As of right now, it is unknown exactly what is causing this issue. This issue has been known to persist in both an Exynos and Snapdragon powered Galaxy S21 FE. So, it seems likely to be an issue with the software rather than the hardware. However, hardware defects on display’s have occurred in the past.

At the moment, the only fix appears to be turning the screen on and off to get through the lowered refresh rate. However, Samsung has yet to offer any official acknowledgement for this issue or offer any timeline for a possible fix. So stay tuned for more, as we will be providing more updates when additional information is available regarding this matter.

Samsung launched the Galaxy S21 FE last month. The smartphone debuted at $699.99 in the US. Within a few days from its release, the handset is already discounted in the country. Let’s check out how much it costs now in the region.

According to XDA Developers, Amazon is offering a $100 discount on the base variant of the Galaxy S21 FE with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. Hence, its price comes down to $599.99.

With the new price tag, the successor of Galaxy S0 FE now competes directly with the Pixel 6 (8GB + 128GB) as it also costs the same. However, the latest value for money flagship smartphone from Google is currently unavailable on Amazon.

It is worth noting that the $100 discount offered by Amazon is also applicable to the higher 8GB + 256G variant of Galaxy S21 FE. Therefore, it now costs $669.99 instead of $769.99.

Having said that, it is not known how long this deal will be on the offer. Hence, make use of it while you can. The phone can be availed in all four standard colors, namely Graphite, White, Lavender, and Olive. 

Since the Navy colorway is exclusive to Best Buy, it’s being sold at the original price. However, buyers get a $200 discount if they upgrade their existing line or add a new line with their carrier.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE was finally announced earlier this month at CES 2022 after months of delays, defying various rumors of its cancelation. As customary for Samsung, the device quickly received the January security patch not long after in some Asian markets. And now, it has begun to get the same in the US too, as its very first update.

The update is for the unlocked variant of the Galaxy S21 FE and carries firmware version G990U1UEU2BUL8 (via SamMobile). It doesn’t bring anything new to the table other than the January security patch, but that’s unsurprising considering the device already runs the latest from Samsung out of the box—One UI 4 based on Android 12.

Among the various vulnerabilities and security holes patched by the January patch is the bug that allowed Microsoft Teams to break emergency calling. It also fixes a loophole in Android 12 that allowed third-party applications with shell access to change the colors and dimensions of certain system elements.

The update is rolling out to almost all carrier networks including AT&T, Bluegrass Cellular, Comcast, C-Spire, Tracfone, T-Mobile, Verizon, and Xfinity Mobile.

It is one of the dozens that the device will be getting, thanks to the promised three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security patch updates.

If you reside in the US and wish to update your Galaxy S21 FE to the latest build, then you can do so by heading over to Settings > Software update and tapping on “Download and install” if anything shows up.

It has been only a week since Samsung announced the Galaxy S21 at CES 2021. The device hit the shelves yesterday  (January 11) in most markets around the world. At the same time, the company quietly released a new color in the US.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE got a new ‘Navy’ (blue) color option on its release day in the United States. This version of the handset is exclusively sold by Best Buy in both unlocked and carrier variants at the same price as the regular colorways.

For the unaware, when Samsung officially unveiled the Galaxy S21 FE, it only presented four colors. These color variants are called Lavender, White, Olive, and Graphite.

Samsung is known for releasing exclusive colors of its devices. Some of them are made available in multiple markets, while others are not. At present, we are not sure if the new navy blue colorway of the Galaxy S20 FE’s successor will make its way to other markets.

The Galaxy S21 FE comes in two memory configurations in the US – 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB. They are priced at $699 and $769 respectively. 

Due to a delayed launch, one can grab the year-old vanilla Galaxy S21 at around the same price. If you could wait and spend a bit more, then the Galaxy S22 is just around the corner.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE (Fan Edition) has gone official in India. The Snapdragon 888 chip edition of the device was announced for markets like the U.S. and Europe in the previous week. The variant that is heading to India is equipped with the Exynos 2100 chip.

The Galaxy S21 FE 5G has a 6.4-inch AMOLED FHD+ display that offers a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen is shielded by the latest Gorilla Glass Victus protection. For security, it has an under-display fingerprint scanner. The device is equipped with an IP68 rated dustproof and water-resistant chassis.

The S21 FE features a 32-megapixel camera for snapping selfies and video calls. Its rear camera setup has an OIS-assisted 12-megapixel main camera, a 12-megapixel ultrawide shooter, and an OIS-enabled 8-megapixel telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. The Exynos 2100 powered handset has LPPDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. For more storage, it has a microSD card slot. The device is packed with a 4,500mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging, 10W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Samsung will not be offering the power brick in the retail package of the S21 FE. It’s packed with other features like dual SIM support with 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, and a USB-C port. The device lacks a 3.5mm audio jack.

The Galaxy S21 FE 5G has arrived in two options in India such as 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage. They are priced at Rs 54,999 (~$742) and Rs 58,999 (~$796), respectively. With the introductory offer, the HDFC Bank card owners can get a Rs 5,000 cashback on both models between Jan. 11 and Jan. 17. With the cashback, these models can be purchased for Rs 53,999 (~$729) and Rs 49,999 (~$676), respectively. Yesterday, Samsung confirmed to Gagdets360 that it will be launching the Galaxy S21 FE in India on January 10 (Monday). Unfortunately, the company did not reveal the chipset powering the model coming to the country.

For the unaware, the successor of Galaxy S20 FE arrives in two variants. One of them features the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, while the other one houses Samsung’s in-house Exynos 2100 chip.

Markets like the US, Europe, and China have been confirmed to get the Qualcomm version of the phone. On the other hand, Samsung has hinted that Asian countries will receive the Exynos variant.

Hence, in India, the device could possibly come with an Exynos 2100 SoC instead of a Snapdragon 888 chip. As far as price is concerned, it is tipped to cost around ₹52,000. The launch offers are said to bring down the price to around ₹48,000-₹49,000.

Interested customers can already pre-reserve the Galaxy S21 FE in the country by paying a sum of ₹999. Buyers who opt for this will get a Galaxy SmartTag for free. The smartphone is expected to ship from January 11 (Tuesday).

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S21 FE in India soon. But prior to its release, the pricing of the upcoming smartphone has been tipped. The news also arrives as the device’s pre-bookings start in the region.

The pricing for the Indian market was revealed by known tipster Yogesh Brar on Twitter. Reportedly, the South Korean tech giant will be launching the Galaxy S21 FE in India for a price tag of 52,000 INR (roughly 700 US Dollars). He further added that the price tag might fall to 48,000 INR or 49,000 INR (roughly 645 or 660 US Dollars) through discounts. Notably, a listing page on Amazon India has also recently gone live, which showcases the design and specs of the device and hints at its imminent launch.

The listing arrives just a day after the handset was launched in the UK. For those unaware, the Galaxy S21 FE sports a 6.4 inch full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the Indian variant of the device is expected to feature the Exynos 2100 SoC. On the rear, it features a triple camera module consisting of a 12 megapixel primary camera, a 12 megapixe ultra wide angle lens, and an 8 megapixel telephoto sensor.

A large 4,500mAh battery runs the device, which supports 25W fast charging, with the device also arriving with IP68 water and dust resistance. Earlier today, Samsung officially announced the Galaxy S21 FE. Just like the reports stated, the smartphone arrives with two different chipsets depending on the market it is sold in. Samsung has even revealed which markets get what silicon but not in a detailed manner.

According to a report by SamMobile, the South Korean tech giant has confirmed that the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip in the US as well as Europe. For the unaware, the latter region usually gets the Exynos variant.

This is not the first time a flagship Galaxy product is coming with a Qualcomm chipset in Europe. The last year’s Galaxy S20 FE 5G also featured the SoC from the US-based chipmaker in Europe. However, the original Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy S21 models feature Exynos silicon.

As far as other regions are concerned, there is a Galaxy S21 FE variant with ‘E’ in its model number. SamMobile points out that this version will house the Exynos 2100 SoC. The publication also says that Samsung will be offering this variant in most Asian countries.

But unfortunately, the exact regions that will be receiving the Exynos version are not known at the moment. We expect to learn more about them once Samsung starts revealing the availability of the handset in those markets.

However, the phone manages to pop up in several images and videos so much so that the design and most of its specs are already known. Now, ahead of its release, the smartphone has been listed on Walmart revealing its price.

According to Walmart’s listing, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is priced at $699 for the 128GB variant in Graphite colour. The variant listed is expected to be the 6GB RAM variant.

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is anticipated to go official at CES 2022. The device may hit the shelves on January 11 in the US. Ahead of that, the phone now emerges in a hands-on video.

Instagram user @habla.concamilo has shared (via SamMobile) a short hands-on video of the yet-to-release Galaxy S21 FE video. The video showcases the handset in the violet color option. For the unaware, the phone will be available in three more colors – green, gray, and white.

The video confirms that the smartphone will have a matte finish on the rear, unlike Galaxy S20 FE, which has a glossy texture. It appears to be the same plastic material found on the mid-range Galaxy A series. Hopefully, the material is as good as the one found on the vanilla Galaxy S21 as the A series has a thinner and flimsy back panel.

Samsung Electronics has revealed the date for its CES 2022 keynote. The company’s presentation is scheduled for January 4, 2022, at the Venetian’s Palazzo Ballroom in Las Vegas. Since the event will kickstart at 6:30 PM PST, it will be live on the next day (January 5) for the eastern countries.

According to an official announcement post by Samsung, Jong-Hee (JH) Han, Vice Chairman, CEO and Head of Samsung Electronics’ DX (Device eXperience) Division, will deliver the keynote speech.

Yesterday, the software firmware for the Galaxy S21 FE went live on Samsung’s server. According to these builds (via SamMobile), the handset will ship with Android 12 out of the box. This means it should also come with One UI 4.0 comprising of new features and visual changes.

On top of that, the device may receive up to Android 15 update in the future. That’s because Samsung promises 3 generations of OS updates and at least 4 years of security updates for its premium and select mid-range smartphones and tablets.

If this happens to be true, then the Galaxy S21 FE will be a better option than the rest of the Galaxy S21 models in terms of software.

Samsung’s long-delayed smartphone — the Galaxy S21 FE is now finally expected to go official next month during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022. As the launch is nearing, we are getting to know more about the phone, even though most of the information related to the smartphone has already been leaked.

In the latest leak, the official render of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE has surfaced online as the support page for the upcoming smartphone has gone live on the official website for Samsung’s UAE region.

Along with that, the company has also listed three other products related to the Galaxy S21 FE on the website, which are the official cases. They are similar to what the South Korean company has been offering for most of its premium phones — Clear View Cover, Silicone Cover, and Clear Standing Cover.

There had been rumors swirling around relating to the Galaxy S21 FE due partly to its delayed projected release. However, recent speculations have indicated that Samsung is indeed on track for the launch of this fans edition model at a Galaxy Unpacked event within the first week of January 2022. A tipster has now gone ahead to post the Galaxy S21 FE’s key specs and some images of the device.

As per the latest leak, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE will come with a 6.4-inch FHD+ OLED capable of 120Hz display refresh rate. The display is secured with Gorilla Glass while the rear will be made of polycarbonate plastic. There is an in-display fingerprint scanner and a 64MP primary camera at the rear of the device. The camera setup also includes an ultra-wide and a depth sensor for the primary camera, as well as a 32MP front camera. The Galaxy S21 FE will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 chipsets offering 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. A 4,500mAh battery provides power for the device and it is capable of 15W fast charging.

The pricing of the Galaxy S21 FE could be lower than the Galaxy S21, as it sports some less endowed features than the S21, although there are no indications yet on its actual price.

Leaked promo materials of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G were spotted recently. Now, its official case listings have appeared on Samsung Colombia’s website. The Galaxy S21 FE may debut on Jan. 4 and get showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, which will be held soon after.

As shown in the images below, Samsung Colombia will be offering different kinds of cases and covers for S21 FE buyers. The images give a look at the silicon cover, standing rugged cover, and premium clear cover designed for S21 FE.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G specifications

The Galaxy S21 FE is expected to arrive with a 6.41-inch AMOLED FHD+ display and a 120Hz refresh rate. For selfies, it has a front camera of 32-megapixel. Its back panel has a 12-megapixel primary camera with OIS support, a 12-megapixel superwide lens, and an 8-megapixel telephoto snapper.

Depending on the market, the S21 FE could be available with the Exynos 2100 or Snapdragon 888 chipset. The device ships with may ship with up to 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. For security, it may offer an in-screen fingerprint scanner.

The S21 FE may house a 4,500mAh battery. It may come with support for 25W fast charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. The recently leaked marketing images show that S21 FE will be coming in colors like black, cream, lavender, and white.
