Despite being two generations old, Samsung’s Galaxy S23 series remains in the spotlight, with Geekbench listings revealing the vanilla S23 (SM-S911U) and S23+ (SM-S916U) running Android 16, the backbone of One UI 8.

Oddly, the S23 Ultra (SM-S918U) is absent from the leak, but all listed devices pack the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy and 8GB RAM. This follows the global rollout of One UI 7.0 (Android 15) with the April 2025 security patch, which added Galaxy AI features like Note Assist, Call Assist, Interpreter, and Google Gemini integration.

One UI 8, expected to debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 in July 2025, appears to be an iterative update, refining Galaxy AI and introducing Android 16’s robust security, including the Advanced Protection Program to thwart scams. Features like stricter Factory Reset protections, AI-driven malware detection, and enhanced UWB support could boost the S23’s longevity. Live Updates for lock screen widgets may also arrive.

One UI 7 Beta 2 rolled out recently for the S23 series, touting fixes and enhancements like full Drawing Assist, natural language search, and Now Bar tweaks—polishing the Android 15-based update for a smoother user experience. But for several S23 owners, it’s been anything but smooth.

Gemini Live mode seems to be the culprit

The culprit? Gemini Live mode, pre-installed on recent Galaxy devices, powers the Google Assistant with the long-press power key. Things work fine while Gemini Live stays on-screen, overlaying the home interface with live notifications in the status bar.

The system UI crashes when it’s sent to the background. The One UI launcher freezes up—apps open with a tap, but gestures like swiping no longer function in that situation. Lock the phone, unlock it, and it returns to the same state. Soon enough, a “System UI isn’t responding” alert pops up, offering two choices: “Close app” to reboot the launcher (ditching all open apps) or “Wait,” which just stalls until the crash message loops again.

Touch works, but the frozen gestures and inevitable crash make it a chore. Daily drivers of the S23 series who are yet to install the Beta 2 update, are advised to wait for the next version as this one can be quite frustrating at times. Those who have already installed the update are currently stuck picking between a forced restart or “Wait”, hoping the third beta fixes the issue. For now, avoiding Gemini Live mode seems to be the only workaround.

• Transcript Assist: Works alongside the Samsung Voice Recorder app to transcribe audio and tag multiple speakers. It can also create summaries of these recordings.

Few users had reported an HDR-related issue on the Galaxy S23 series smartphones. The devices fail to adjust colors properly in some lighting conditions. But we have good news for them, the brand has officially acknowledged the issue and has confirmed that the upcoming software update for the device will fix the HDR issue present on the device.

Known tipster Ice Universe (via SamMobile) claims that he received a confirmation from the Samsung support team that “improvements are in progress and will be included in the next update” (translated from Chinese).

The comparison reveals that the Galaxy S23 Ultra takes around 40 minutes longer to charge wirelessly from 1-100% than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, while the Galaxy S23 Plus takes about 15 minutes longer, and the Galaxy S23 takes approximately 16 minutes longer. This is surprising, given Samsung’s emphasis on speed and performance on its latest smartphones.

One possible explanation for this slower charging speed is Samsung’s concern about heat dissipation. The company’s documentation states that the Galaxy S23 includes “an enhanced level of heat dissipation” to prevent overheating. Nevertheless, this does not fully explain why the last generation flagship, featuring the same battery size and wireless charging tech as the Galaxy S23 Ultra, can recharge faster than the newer model at the same charging speed.

It’s worth noting that 15W wireless charging is not the fastest standard available, and other brands like OnePlus have been offering 50W wireless charging for a couple of years now. It’s important to note that Samsung’s 15W fast wireless charging is only available on the company’s own chargers, which means that customers using third-party charging pads may experience slower charging speeds. In fact, even if the third-party charger supports 15W charging, the speeds may be capped at 10W due to compatibility issues.

Overall, this discovery may be disappointing for Samsung Galaxy S23 owners who were expecting faster wireless charging speeds. Samsung has recently launched its latest flagship device, the Galaxy S23, which has been receiving positive feedback from consumers. One of the major improvements in the update is related to the camera and gallery. The gallery has a new function that allows users to delete photos immediately, providing a smoother experience. Additionally, the autofocus concept has been changed, allowing users to take photos even when the focus is not completely set. However, users can also turn off this feature and prioritize focus over speed by going to the camera assistant settings.

Furthermore, the update enhances ultra-wide camera photography by improving sharpness and adding notice when shooting Ultrawide in low light. It also fixes several issues related to shooting after Night mode off in low light, face recognition after ending a video call using a third-party app, and improves the stability of camera movements. The OIS is now also more stabilized, resulting in better image quality.

Overall, the latest update for the Galaxy S23 devices brings significant improvements and fixes related to the camera and gallery.

Galaxy S23 Series March Update Changelogs:

1. A new function has been added to the gallery that allows users to delete photos immediately after they are taken with the camera while still being processed.
2. The autofocus concept has been modified to allow users to take photos even if the focus is not completely set when the shooting button is pressed for faster photo taking. However, users can still shoot after completing focus as before by changing the settings in the latest Camera Assistant. To prioritize focus over speed, users can turn on the “focus priority” setting.

3. Improved sharpness and flicker have been added when shooting ultrawide in low light indoors after setting the Camera Video Mode to Super Steady On. Users will also receive a notice stating that more light is needed to take a good Super Steady photo.

5. Image stabilization has been improved when shooting with FHD60 after setting Auto FPS Off in the rear video.
6. Improved line-shaped banding noise in the sky in mid-low light when shooting high-pixel in low-mid light. The overall sharpness has also been optimized for high-pixel shooting, and intermittent blurring has been reduced through OIS stabilization.
7. A malfunction when shooting after Night Off in low light after selecting Shooting Speed > High Resolution > Speed Priority in Camera Assistant has been fixed.
8. Face recognition issues after ending a third-party video call have been resolved.
9. Samsung has also improved the stability of the camera app when the frame has moving subjects.

The update will roll out to other countries very soon but it will probably roll out as the April 2023 update since we are almost at the end of March now.

Jungwoo Kim, who managed GPU development for the series, described Ray Tracing as “the ultimate graphic rendering method. Ray Tracing is a complex simulation that traces how the optic nerve of an eye receives a ray of light after being reflected, refracted, or diffracted by an object,” said Kim. “It’s very similar to how light is actually processed.”

Joonyong Park, who managed GPU technical support for the new product, explained that previous rasterization techniques were limited, resulting in awkward and inaccurate expressions. Ray Tracing, on the other hand, simulates the actual effect of how shadows are formed, creating accurate and realistic onscreen graphics.

Since 2010, Samsung has worked to break down barriers between console, desktop, and mobile graphics by expanding the performance and range of its graphics API. By partnering with major industry players, Samsung has standardized its latest technology as the common API, allowing more companies to apply the technology to games and expand their ecosystems.

“In 2016, we standardized the next-generation graphics API called Vulkan released by the Khronos Group and succeeded in commercialization through the Galaxy S7,” said Kim. “But, we’ve been working on advanced GPU development with partners like Epic Games and Unity to optimize the performance of Android games since 2015, before Vulkan was integrated into Galaxy devices.”

With the rising popularity of cross-platform games, Samsung quickly applied desktop GPU technology to their mobile GPU. Park said, “With the rise in consumers demanding that the graphic quality on their mobile devices matches the quality of consoles, we’ve been preparing to offer Ray Tracing technology in mobile game engines since two years ago.”

Last week, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra underwent a durability test conducted by PBKReviews, and unfortunately, it didn’t fare well. The S23 Ultra’s screen shattered on the very first drop from a waist-high position. The curved display of the S23 Ultra was probably the main culprit for its fragility.

However, the S23+ also failed the durability test in the same way, despite being equipped with the latest iteration of Gorilla Glass and a flat display (as compared to the S23 Ultra’s curved display). The cracks on the flat glass panels of the S23+ were comparatively smaller than those on the curved panels of the S23 Ultra, but both devices continued to display content and accept touch input regardless, which was the only upside of this drop test. It’s worth noting that most modern smartphone glass sandwiches are likely to break if dropped from waist height.

The Galaxy S23 Plus flaunts a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), a 48-120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The centered punch-hole screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and can play HDR10+ content. On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 Ultra brings cutting-edge hardware to the conversation. It has the brand’s best display, best cameras, and fastest chip. Recently, there have been reports claiming that the One UI 5.1 software on the new Samsung Galaxy S23, S23 Plus, and S23 Ultra uses 60 GB of storage on the system partitions due to bloatware. However, these claims are false. So, what are system partitions?

Android OEMs typically reserve some storage space for system apps, which cannot be removed by the user. This varies from device to device. In the case of the Galaxy S23 series, the storage reserved for system partitions is not as high as 60 GB. For example, a 128 GB Galaxy S22 Ultra reserves only 26.09 GB for the system, and a 512 GB Galaxy S23 Ultra uses 55.23 GB.

It’s worth noting that the storage capacity reported by Android devices is often converted from GiB to GB, and this conversion can result in some losses. For example, a device advertised with 512 GB of storage might actually have closer to 476 GB of usable space. One UI 5.1 reports these conversion losses under “system”, which has led to some confusion about the amount of storage space consumed by the software.

So, the reports of 60 GB of bloatware on the Galaxy S23 series are not accurate. The amount of storage reserved for system partitions is reasonable, and the apparent high storage usage is due to conversion losses and labeling under “system”. Samsung recently debuted the Galaxy S23 series. The company’s latest flagship smartphones offer almost everything you expect from a premium phone. However, they don’t come with a handy feature, which is even found on some budget handsets.

The feature we are talking about is seamless updates. For the unaware, this feature is currently available on almost all premium Android smartphones, except for phones from Samsung and a couple of other OEMs.

Back in October, Samsung officially confirmed that they are working on introducing seamless update functionality with the release of One UI 6.0. Hence, the Galaxy S23 series was not expected to arrive with this feature and the same has happened.

Either way, it’s a shame that Samsung is taking this long to introduce a useful feature. Almost all other major brands implemented it a while back.

For the unaware, phones with support for seamless updates need not remain shut down for a longer duration during the installation of a new software update. The OTA system update gets installed in the background on these handsets and they only require a simple reboot at the end.

As One UI 6.0 based on Android 14 is expected to release later this year, the next-gen Galaxy S series, which would be most likely called the Galaxy S24 series, may finally offer support for seamless updates since it will come pre-installed with the said version of One UI.

Now, the company has announced the pricing and availability details of its latest premium smartphones for India. As the leaks hinted, the phones are more expensive than their predecessors.

The official price tags of the Samsung Galaxy S23 series are even costlier than the leaked prices from a few days back. The devices will retail at the following prices in the country.

Interestingly, the Galaxy S23 Plus will be only available in Phantom Black and Cream color options. On the other hand, the Galaxy S23 will come in Green and Lavender, in addition to the above two colors.

Further, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will not be available in Lavender. However, apart from the standard three colors, it will also be offered in Samsung.com exclusive colors (Red, Graphite, Lime, and Sky Blue).

All three handsets are up for pre-booking starting today (February 2) across all the leading offline and online channels in the country.

As scheduled, Samsung took wraps off the Galaxy S23 series today at the first Galaxy Unpacked event of 2023. Just like the last few years, the latest-gen Galaxy S family consists of three smartphones, such as Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

The Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23 Plus arrive with a new design. However, the specs are somewhat the same as the last generation phones (Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus).

Both models are almost identical to each with a few differences like screen and battery capacity. They are also comparatively cheaper than the Ultra.

Let’s take a look at everything they have to offer.

Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus Specifications

The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus flaunt a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels (FHD+), a 48-120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The centered punch-hole screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and can play HDR10+ content.

The panel on both devices can reach a peak brightness of up to 1,750 nits. The only difference is that the display on the S23 measures 6.1 inches compared to 6.6 inches on the S23 Plus.

The handsets are powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset. This silicon is paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage (UFS 3.1 for the 128GB variant).

On the software front, they boot One UI 5.1 based on Android 13. They come with multiple connectivity options, such as 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, GNSS, NFC, UWB (only Plus version), and USB 3.2 (Type-C).

The smartphones arrive with a triple camera system on the back and a 12MP front-facing camera. The rear camera setup comprises an OIS-assisted 50MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide unit with auto-focus support, and a 12MP telephoto shooter with a 3x optical zoom lens and OIS.

The phones are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. They feature Dolby Atmos-supported dual stereo speakers and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor.

The Galaxy S23 is backed by a 3,900mAh battery, whereas the Galaxy S23 Plus gets its energy from a 4,700mAh battery. The vanilla model is limited to 25W wired charging but the Plus variant supports up to 45W wired charging. Anyway, both support 15W wireless charging.

Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus Price and Availability

In the US, the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23 Plus start at $799.99 and $999.99, respectively. They come in 8GB + 256GB and 8GB + 512GB memory configurations. The vanilla version also comes in 8GB + 128GB.

The handsets can be availed in either Phantom Black, Green, Cream, or Lavender color options. They are up for pre-order and will be available for purchase from February 17.

As per multiple leaks, we know that the Galaxy S23 family will include three devices, namely Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 Plus, and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The former two will be more identical than ever before and the latter will come with a new 200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP2 primary sensor.

All three will be powered by a customized Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. This silicon is expected to be called Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy.

Vivo X90 Series

The Vivo X90 series will make its way to global markets on February 3. It will be initially unveiled in Malaysia on the said day.

The company is expected to debut only two models, namely Vivo X90 and Vivo X90 Pro. Since these phones are on sale in China for about two months, we know everything about them.

They come with a 6.78-inch 10-bit 120Hz AMOLED display with a resolution of 2800 x 1260 pixels, a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 SoC, Zeiss-powered camera system, dual stereo speakers, an IR blaster, 120W fast wired charging, and more.

It’s not known if and when Vivo X90 Pro Plus will be introduced outside mainland China.

Infinix Zero 5G 2023

The Infinix Zero 5G 2023 is set to launch in India on February 4. Since the device is already official in several markets, everything about it is out.

The handset arrives with a 6.78-inch 120Hz display (LCD), a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 chip, a 50MP main camera, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 5,000mAh battery, and 33W fast wire charging support.

The brand has also partnered with Marvel Studios to celebrate the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantamania. Hence, it will be also releasing a special gift box of Infinix Zero 5G 2023 themed after the forthcoming movie.

Samsung is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S23 series at its first Unpacked event of 2023 on February 1. Ahead of that, details about these smartphones have been popping up on the internet from multiple sources.

As a result, we know almost everything about them before their official announcement. Thanks to a reliable tipster, we now even have minute info, such as peak display brightness.

According to Roland Quandt (via SamMobile), the displays on all three models in the Samsung Galaxy S23 lineup will offer up to 1750 nits of peak brightness. Thus, the Galaxy S23 series will be the first Galaxy S family of phones in a long while to provide the same peak brightness.

For the unaware, last year’s Galaxy S22 is limited to 1300 nits, while Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra offer up to 1750 nits. So in terms of display brightness, the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra will not be getting an upgrade but the Galaxy S23 will.

Anyway, the vanilla Galaxy S23 will be still inferior to the Galaxy S23 Plus in some aspects due to its smaller size and cheaper price. It will arrive with a smaller screen, smaller battery, and slower charging speed. The phone will also lack UWB, which will be present in the other two handsets.

Last but not least, the Galaxy S23 is expected to cost the same as the Galaxy S22 in the US. However, in Korea, it may see a price hike.

Samsung is set to unveil the Galaxy S23 series at the Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1. Therefore, we have been learning new things about these smartphones for the past few days.

We are already aware that the devices will be powered by a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset by Qualcomm. Now, thanks to a new leak, we also know the official marketing name of this silicon.

According to a source of 9to5Google, the custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC inside the Galaxy S23 lineup will be officially called ‘Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy’.

As per previous reports, this chipset will be clocked higher at 3.36GHz. The regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 present inside the Xiaomi 13 series and OnePlus 11 is limited to 3.2GHz.

Previously, this custom chip was rumored to be manufactured by Samsung Foundry. But now, it is said to be fabricated by TSMC, just like the standard version of the SoC.

As of now, we have no idea about the thermal performance of this custom chipset. Hopefully, it is at least on par with the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Samsung has scheduled its first ‘Unpacked’ event of 2023 for February 1. The company has confirmed to debut the Galaxy S23 series at this event. The smartphones are expected to be accompanied by the Galaxy Book 3 series of laptops.

Ahead of their official announcement, almost all details about these products have leaked. We have even started hearing about the price. Earlier reports suggested a hike in price but a new one says otherwise.

As per an official-looking Verizon document (via 9to5Google), Samsung will not increase the price of the Galaxy S23 series, at least in the US. The lineup will retail at the following price tags in the region.

• Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra – $1,199.99
• Samsung Glaaxy S23 Plus – $999.99
• Samsung Galaxy S23 – $799.99

In other words, The Galaxy S23 family will cost the same as the Galaxy S22 lineup from last year. However, the base variant of the S23 Plus will arrive with 256GB instead of 128GB like the S22 Plus. Hence, the second memory variant will offer 512GB. 

On the other hand, the vanilla S23 will come in the same 128GB and 256GB versions. But the standard and plus models will share almost all specs, including colors (Phantom Black, Lavender, Cream, Green).

Finally, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be also available in the same memory configurations and colors as the Galaxy S23 Plus.

Samsung has finally confirmed the date of its next Galaxy Unpacked event, through which it will announce the Galaxy S23 series. For the first time in three years, the South Korean tech giant will hold an offline launch event at 10 pm on Feb. 1 in San Francisco, USA.

The launch event will be livestreamed on Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and the official YouTube channel. Leaked teasers of the Galaxy S23 series show that the company may focus on the camera capabilities of the S23.

Leaks about the Galaxy S23 series have shown that the S23 and S23 Plus may get the same 50-megapixel (main, with OIS), 12-megapixel (ultra-wide), and 10-megapixel (telephoto) triple camera unit that was available on the S22 and S22+. The Galaxy S23 Ultra, on the other hand, will be Samsung’s first phone to feature a 200-megapixel camera. It will be assisted by a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, a 10-megapixel telephoto camera, and a 10-megapixel periscope zoom camera. Al three phones are likely to feature a new 12-megapixel selfie camera.

Leaked promo videos have suggested that low-light photography will be one of the major highlights of the S23 trio. Some other reports have claimed that Samsung’s partnership with leading social media brands will allow the S23 series to capture better shots through apps like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

According to earlier leaks, it seems that Samsung will be introducing the next generation of its flagship devices with a lot of accessories. Lastly, leakster SnoopyTech has shared the product images, which reportedly show the official Samsung Leather Case for the Galaxy S23 series. Here are the details…

The leather case for the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is similar to the Leather Case for the Galaxy S22 Ultra (available for around $37 on Amazon), with the exception of a new color. While the case for last year’s flagship was only available in black, light grey, and burgundy (dark red), the new case will also be available in a stylish light brown. This color will reportedly be available for the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23+ as well.

According to a leak, the leather cases for all three devices will be offered in the new “camel” color, as well as green and black. The image of the case for the Galaxy S23+ may already show a dark green color. The cases for the smaller models of the Galaxy S23 series do not have the bump for the camera module, in order to match the new look of the smartphones, which have the three cameras individually housed within the body, rather than in a camera module that drops off at the edge.

The display is also said to be brighter than the iPhone 14 Pro series, with a brightness of 2200 nits.

S23 Ultra will also have a quad camera system, including a new 200 MP main camera and two 10MP telephoto cameras with 3x and 10x optical zoom as well as a 12 MP ultrawide camera. The battery capacity of the S23 Ultra is expected to be 5000 mAh and it will support 25W fast charging and at least 15W wireless charging.

Meanwhile, a new ETNews claims that the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will reportedly feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 50 megapixel primary sensor, paired with a 12 megapixel and an 11 megapixel camera, which is just a minor upgrade over the S22 and S22+ models.

For those unaware, the Galaxy S22 and S22+ featured a 50 megapixel main camera, paired with a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle, and 10 megapixel telephoto lens with 3x zoom. So it is clear that the bulk of the major camera upgrades will be exclusive to the Galaxy S23 Ultra model. However, the entire series will apparently feature the same image sensor on the front. A previous leak had hinted at the front facing camera being a 12 megapixel shooter, and the new report backs this up.

Furthermore, the South Korean tech giant also plans on manufacturing around 32 million units of the Galaxy S23 series. 50 percent of this figure will be for the S23 Ultra model alone, while the base model will account for 30 percent of the production. This means that the S22+ will have the smallest share of 20 percent.

As speculated earlier via some reports, the upcoming Galaxy S23 series will ditch the Exynos chipsets and will be entirely replaced by the Snapdragon chipsets. Qualcomm CFO Akash Palkhiwala confirmed the presence of the chipset on the Samsung flagships while announcing the Q4 2022 financial reports. Breaking all the odds, the new flagship smartphone will launch with the same chipset across the globe.

Qualcomm expects to register strong growth in Q1 2023 with the launch of new devices using the next flagship chipset. Moreover, the dates coincide with the Galaxy S23 launch pushing stronger sales. In a statement, Akash Palkhiwala said, “So from a March quarter perspective, you’re right, the benefit from the Samsung launch for the new phone would be in the in kind of the second half of the March quarter. So it comes in towards the end of the quarter, but that will be an advantage, whereas our share from 75% in G S22 goes up to global share in G S23. – Akash Palkhiwala (Qualcomm CFO)”

In addition, the reports call even confirmed the new multiyear agreement for the use of Qualcomm chipsets on Samsung’s premium segment phones.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Specifications (Expected)

Additionally, Samsung Galaxy S23 series is all set for release by February 2023 with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. All three models – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 Ultra even surfaced on Geekbench revealing some prominent specifications, especially the chipset, consisting of 1+2+2+3 cores configuration and up to 3.36GHz clocking speed.

Previous leaks confirm that the Samsung Galaxy S23 will feature a 6.1-inch sAMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, meanwhile, the Galaxy S23+ houses a 6.6-inch sAMOLED display. There will be a 50MP primary sensor with OIS, a 12MP ultrawide lens and a 10MP telephoto lens. A 12MP sensor will be present on the front.

Alike the Galaxy S22 series, the base Galaxy S23 will house 25W rapid charging with a slight increase in battery capacity.

Samsung is gearing up to soon launch its highly anticipated Galaxy S23 series of flagship smartphones. However, prior to any official announcement, a new leak has hinted that the upcoming high end device will offer better endurance and battery life without a bigger battery size.

For those unaware, the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ models are not expected to offer major changes in battery sizes over their predecessors. Similarly, the top end Galaxy S23 Ultra is also rumored to feature the same battery pack as the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But despite no major change in the battery pack itself, the endurance on the next gen models will reportedly see an improvement. The news arrives from a known tipster Ice Universe, who shared the information on Twitter.

He claimed that the Galaxy S23 lineup will arrive with a new and improved low power mode. This will reportedly reduce power consumption significantly, which in turn would raise the battery life of the new smartphones. However, the low power mode comes with a notable trade off, since users will have to bring down the refresh rate and even sacrifice their device’s performance as well. The tipster shared an image of the settings, which revealed that it will be called the light performance mode.

Based on what we know so far, the South Korean tech giant’s Galaxy S23+ will feature a 4,700mAh battery pack. This is larger than the 4,500mAh battery pack in the Galaxy S22+. However, in the past few days, the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra have been certified by the 3C regulatory body in China, which indicates that these devices may debut soon. In addition, recent reports have also revealed the design of the Galaxy S23 series through CAD renders.

According to ET News, the Galaxy S23 series’ early release is a strategy to secure the premium smartphone market share by narrowing the duration between the iPhone 14 lineup, which went official earlier this month. The report claims that Samsung Electronics’ Mobile Experience division has decided to announce the Galaxy S23 lineup earlier than its predecessor. It has even shared a roadmap with its partners. Furthermore, Samsung Electronics has placed orders for Galaxy S23 series components earlier than before.

The South Korean tech giant is yet to decide on a launch date, but rumors are rife that the S23 series may break cover in time for the year-end shopping season. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus was recently spotted with the Galaxy S23 in the database of China’s 3C certification site. Publication SmartPrix has teamed up with reliable tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka. OnLeaks) to release the CAD renders of the Galaxy S23+. The images show that there will be some design changes on the successor edition of the Galaxy S22+.

Samsung Galaxy S23+ design

The Galaxy S23+ renders show that the device will feature a punch-hole display on the front. Its back panel has a vertical triple camera unit at the upper-left corner. There is no separate camera island as it was seen on the Galaxy S22. Each camera has protruding rings like the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

The volume buttons and the power key are on the right side of the Galaxy S23+. Its bottom edge has a USB-C port and a speaker grille. While the SIM card slot is not visible in the renders, it appears that it will also be available on the bottom edge.

The report further states that the Galaxy S23+ measures 157.7 x 76.1 x 7.6mm and houses a 6.6-inch display. The S22+ also housed a same-sized screen but measured 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.6mm. The report has no other information on the specifications of the device.

Rumors surrounding the Galaxy S23 Plus have claimed that it will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It appears that the inclusion of the new chipset could be the only major change of the S23+ as compared to its predecessor. The reason behind it is that tipster Ice Universe recently claimed that the S23+ will have the same internals that is available on the S22+. Hence, the S23+ may not be a major upgrade over its predecessor.

As Samsung is done with its biggest smartphone launches of 2022, details about the next year’s lineup have started emerging. The latest leak sheds some information on the display of the upcoming Galaxy S23 series. It also mentions the dimensions of the phones.

According to tipster Ice Universe on Weibo (via SamMobile), the forthcoming Galaxy S23 series will retain the display size and screen resolution of the current-gen Galaxy S22 series. He also says that the new phones will also be almost identical to the old models in terms of dimensions.

The leaker claims that Samsung will equip the Galaxy S23 series with the following displays.

• Galaxy S23: 6.1-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels)
• Galaxy S23 Plus: 6.6-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels)
• Galaxy S23 Ultra: 6.8-inch (3088 x 1440 pixels)

As you can see from the data, these are the same displays found on the Galaxy S22 lineup. Perhaps, the panel could have better specs, like support for a higher peak brightness level, lower power consumption, and others.

Further, as per the leaker, the Galaxy S23 family will have the following dimensions.

• Galaxy S23: 146.3 × 70.9 × 7.6mm
• Galaxy S23 Plus: 157.8 × 76.2 × 7.6mm
• Galaxy S23 Ultra: 163.4×78.1×8.9 mm

Going by the data, the upcoming handsets will be slightly longer and wider than the existing models. However, they will have the same thickness.

A few weeks back, the same tipster said that the Galaxy S23 Ultra will retain the design of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. He also disclosed that the new model will house the same 5,000mAh battery from its predecessor.

Samsung is known for offering its flagship phones in Snapdragon and Exynos variants depending on the market. Countries like the US and China have been receiving the Snapdragon variant, while the European countries have been treated to the Exynos edition. When the Snapdragon and Exynos versions of Samsung’s flagship phones were put side by side, it was clear that Exynos was less powerful than Qualcomm’s chip. A new leak from well-known supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shows that there won’t be an Exynos version of the Galaxy S23 line.

According to Kuo, the Galaxy S23’s sole chipset supplier could be Qualcomm. It will be equipped with the next flagship chipset that has an SM8550 part number. It will be built with TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. It is most likely to carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 marketing name.

While Samsung could be working on the 4nm Exynos 2300, the Galaxy S23 may not adopt the SoC. Kuo claims the reason behind it is that the Exynos 2300 cannot compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in all aspects. According to the analyst, the US-based chip maker has designed the SD8G2 to meet the design guidelines of TSMC.

The SD8G2 is expected to offer better computing power and power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. Kuo added that Qualcomm “will gain more market share in the high-end market in 2023.” Since the recession does not affect the high-end market much, Qualcomm and TSMC will significantly benefit from the market share.

In April, Samsung Mobile President TM Roh said that the company is working on a unique processor for Galaxy smartphones. It is unclear how different it will be from the company’s in-house Exynos chipsets.

Soon after the launch of the Galaxy S22 series, a report revealed that Samsung had started working on Galaxy S23 series under ‘Project Diamond’. Now, months later, more information about the company’s next-gen flagship smartphones emerges.

According to a report by GalaxyClub, Samsung will finally upgrade the selfie camera of the vanilla and plus models of the upcoming Galaxy S series phones. For the unaware, the firm has been using the same front-facing camera since 2019.

All the Galaxy S series handsets (excluding Ultra models) from the Galaxy S10 series to the Galaxy S22 series feature the same 10MP selfie camera. This is said to finally change with the next generation.

The report states that Samsung will use a 12MP front-facing camera for the Galaxy S23 and the Galaxy S23 Plus. It does not mention anything about the selfie camera of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. So far, Ultra models have been using a 40MP front-facing camera.

As of now, it is not known whether the 12MP selfie camera on the Galaxy S23 series will be placed under the display or will nest inside a punch-hole. Since the smartphones are almost a year away from their launch, we expect to learn more details about them in the coming months.
