Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has partnered with Natural Cycles to bring advanced temperature-based menstrual cycle tracking capabilities to the Galaxy Watch5 series. The partnership marks the first time Natural Cycles’ fertility algorithm has been adapted for a smartwatch. The combination of Samsung’s superior sensor technology and Natural Cycles’ innovative fertility technology offers users a more detailed insight into their menstrual cycle.

Through the Cycle Tracking feature, Galaxy Watch5 users will have access to advanced cycle tracking. The feature has been recently approved by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of the Republic of Korea and has been registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It complies with CE Marking requirements.

Co-founder and co-CEO of Natural Cycles, Dr. Raoul Scherwitzl, highlighted the company’s commitment towards delivering an experience that caters to women’s health. He further stated this partnership will allow Samsung to leverage their fertility technology to offer temperature-based cycle tracking through a smartwatch for the first time.”

Natural Cycles’ innovative fertility technology uses body temperature and other key fertility indicators to determine a user’s unique fertility status. Utilizing its technology and algorithm to power the Cycle Tracking feature Health app, the Galaxy Watch5 series will prove to be greatly useful for charting menstrual cycles. This will enable the Galaxy Watch 5 series to go up against the Apple Watch series, which is undoubtedly the most popular smartwatch in the market right now.

Samsung’s advanced sensor technology includes the ground-breaking BioActive Sensor, ushering the next era of digital health monitoring. The new infrared temperature sensor tracks skin temperature changes as well as the menstrual cycle, offering a more detailed overview. The temperature sensor uses infrared technology for more accurate readings, even if there is a temperature change in the user’s surroundings or they move while sleeping.

The skin temperature-based cycle tracking capabilities will be available through the Samsung Health app on the Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro within the second quarter in 32 markets. This is another demonstration of Samsung’s open collaboration philosophy with other industry leaders to create better health experiences, states Hon Pak, Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics.

The latest update of the Samsung health app has provided some clarity on the naming pattern of the Galaxy Watch 5 series. The update which could point to an imminent launch of the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro models, also indicates the absence of the classic model in the Watch 5 lineup.

The Galaxy Watch 4 beta update for the Samsung Health app has added support for the Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. The Galaxy Watch 4 beta update does not provide any significant changes to its features. There was no mention of the Galaxy Watch 5 Classic in the health update. It is most probable that the classic model will not be part of the new Watch 5 series. There’s a precedent because Samsung acted similarly before the launch of the Galaxy Watch 4 series.

Rumors around the Galaxy Watch 5 have been rife before now. Some tipsters have commented that the Watch 5 Pro will not have a rotating bezel. Samsung is also rumored to have used durable materials like sapphire glass and titanium to offer improved protection. The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is certainly the higher of the two models and it has a premium look.

There are no specifics yet on the rollout of the Galaxy Watch 5 series. In the case of the Galaxy Watch 4, the health app update preceded the launch by a month.

However, a new report from SamMobile reveals that the company will scrap the Classic model.

Last year, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic were great smartwatches targeted at two different sets of audiences. The Watch 4 was more appealing to the younger crowd of the group, while the Watch 4 Classic was for the users on the other side of the spectrum. Now, unfortunately, the Classic is moving out from Samsung’s portfolio to give space to the Pro model.

So this year, we’ll only see the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. We know that the Pro will come in only one size, which will be bigger than the vanilla Watch 5. The vanilla Watch 5 is expected to have two dial sizes – 40mm and 44mm. There’s no confirmation if there will be a rotatable bezel on the forthcoming watches.

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro will carry the model number SM-R925 and have a big 572mAh battery as opposed to the 361mh cell present inside the Galaxy Watch 4. The vanilla Watch 5 with a 40mm dial is expected to pack a smaller 276mAh cell, whereas, the 44mm version will get a 361mAh cell.

Apart from the battery, a recent report revealed that the Watch 5 series will have a circular OLED display and will come with features like GPS and a heart rate monitor. The Watch is also expected to come with a body composition sensor, the same as the Galaxy Watch 4. Both the Watch 5 models will boot on One UI Watch on top of Wear OS 3.
