On the top of the list is a new Fall Detection feature, designed to identify hard falls when a wearer is moving. The new update will enable an option to adjust the sensitivity for the same. You can even choose to detect a fall when you are standing still. Once the watch detects a fall, it sends an SOS notification to selected contacts to ensure that the wearer gets assistance as soon as possible. The feature will be coming to the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3.

Next in line is Group Challenge that enables one to add friends or family to a workout challenge, boosting the incentive to stay fit. All of it can be managed from the watch itself and the feature will also let you track your own place in the competition or see how you’re performing as a team.

Samsung Health Monitor app has also arrived on the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch3. It allows the user to track their heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep, and stress. It is currently available in a total of 42 markets.

Moving on to the customization part, you can enjoy 10 additional watch faces that first launched with the Galaxy Watch4. There are new bold Big Number and Active watch faces along with a more minimal-looking Classic one. Some of these have additional personalization features and support taps to switch between various looks.

While there is a lot to look forward to with the new OS, Samsung also revealed key info about older smartwatches, one that is a mix of good and bad news.

It was revealed that users with Tizen-based smartwatches will receive software updates and Galaxy Store support for up to 3 years from launch. While this is good news, it also indirectly confirms that these watches will not get updated to the new operating system.

A small text at the bottom of the screen adds that software updates will be available to the following devices:

Galaxy Watch

Galaxy Watch Active

This means the Galaxy Watch which was announced in 2018 will have its software support come to an end this year. The Galaxy Watch Active and Galaxy Watch Active2 both announced in 2019 still have one more year of updates while the Galaxy Watch3 has two years of software support left.

Yesterday, Samsung announced that its Galaxy Watch series will now be able to measure blood pressure. However, users will actually need a sphygmomanometer to calibrate the watch.

The nearly minute-long video released by the official Samsung Newsroom YouTube channel walks users through the process. First, you have to ensure that your watch is tightly fitted to your non-dominant wrist. Then wear the cuff of the blood pressure monitor on the arm of your other hand. Just as you begin measuring with the monitor, your watch also begins to measure your blood pressure automatically.

When the watch is done measuring, you enter the reading from the monitor on your phone. You will be required to take two more measurements before calibration is completed after which you will then be able to use your watch to measure your blood pressure with the watch anytime. The press release advises users to calibrate their watch every four weeks to ensure accuracy.

With the health app on your phone, you will be able to monitor your different blood pressure readings over a period of time as recorded measurements will be synced to the device.

Samsung said the Health Monitor app will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active2 in Q3 2020 and then roll out to upcoming models. So if you own the original Watch Active, you will not be able to make use of this feature.

While the pictures of the Galaxy Watch Active2 were leaked earlier, now some of the device’s specs and features have surfaced online.

Samsung’s smartwatches have this attractive rotating bezel for navigation but the South Korean giant ditched it with the launch of Galaxy Watch Active earlier this year. But if the latest reports are to be believed, then Samsung will bring a similar feature with its successor — Galaxy Watch Active2.

As per the report from SamMobile, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Active2 will use a touch sensor around the bezel of the display to simulate that rotating bezel. When the user slides his/her finger around the screen, the software would accept the input just like the physical rotating bezel used to.

Along with this, some specifications of this upcoming wearable device have also leaked online. The report adds that the Galaxy Watch Active2 will come in two models — 44mm and 40mm. The 44mm Active2 will have a 1.4-inch display while the 40mm variant will see a 1.2-inch display. Both the devices will come with 360×360 AMOLED panels with DX+ glass. It also adds that the case will be built to MIL-STD-810G durability standards.
