Samsung’s One UI 8 Brings New Features to Galaxy S24 Series and 2024 Foldables

Talking about the 2024 flagship smartphones first, the South Korean tech giant is bringing the stable build of the major One UI 8 update to the Galaxy S24 lineup. The company just rolled out the Android 16 OS based software update for the latest Galaxy S25 series, with a recent sighting also confirming One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Now, Samsung’s Korean community forums confirmed that the One UI 8 update is arriving for non-beta users in the brand’s home market. The build numbers for these updates are S928NKSU4CYI7, S926NKSU9CYI7. S921NKSU9CYI7. Furthermore, Tipster Tarun Vats revealed in a recent tweet that Samsung is bringing the One UI 8 stable build to the 2024 premium foldables.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is receiving the F956NKSU2CYI7, F956NOKR2CYI7, and F956NKSU2CYHC builds, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is receiving the F741NKSU2CYI6, F741NOKR2CYI6, and F741NKSU2CYHC versions. Similar to the Galaxy S24 series, the foldables are receiving the major software update in South Korea. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Might Just Be the Flip 6 in Disguise

In a report from TechManiacs, the key specs and features of the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE model were revealed. Looking at these specs, it seems like the new budget foldable phone might be just a lazy rebrand of last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 6. The report claims that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, just like the Flip 6. This processor is rumored to be paired with 12GB of RAM.

The main display is a flexible 6.7-inch AMOLED display, while the cover panel is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED screen. In recent leaked renders, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE looks eerily similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, even down to the shape of the cover screen. That’s not all, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is expected to launch with a 50MP (Main) + 12MP (Ultra Wide) dual camera setup on the rear and a 10MP selfie shooter.

So this might be the exact same camera system that was featured on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Another aspect shared between the last gen and new Samsung flip phones is the battery capacity. The new FE model could offer a 4,000 mAh battery cell, which supports 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging. All of these points to the Z Flip 7 FE being a Flip 6 in disguise. Keep in mind that this is still just an unconfirmed report, so take this disappointing news with a pinch of salt for now.

Samsung has finally started rolling out the One UI 7 update. The Galaxy S24 series got the first bite, but that’s not the only device getting the treat today. The update is also rolling out to some Galaxy foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (also known as Galaxy Z Fold SE).

Galaxy Z Fold 6 One UI 7 update details

Samsung is rolling out the stable One UI 7 update to Galaxy Z Fold 6 in Korea. However, it won’t be long before it expands to other parts of the world. Users in Korea can identify the update by the firmware version F956NKSU2BYCK.

The update is rolling out to both beta and non-beta users. For non-beta users, the update has a download size of around 5.2GB. However, beta users only need to download a 400MB update package. That’s because they have already received major changes and new features. The update changes the beta state to stable and might include minor improvements and some fixes.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 getting One UI 7 update details

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is also getting the One UI 7 update in Korea. The update is tagged with firmware version F741NKSU2BYCJ and has a download size of around 5.1GB. Since it’s a pretty big update package,  I recommend downloading it over a stable and fast Wi-Fi connection instead of using mobile data. For beta users, the update only weighs around 400MB.

Galaxy Z Fold SE One UI 7 update details

Surprisingly, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is also getting the stable One UI 7 update today. Samsung had already announced the One UI 7 release date for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, but the Galaxy Z Fold SE was not a part of the announcement. It’s good to see such surprises from Samsung, but not the kind of surprises it has given in the last few months.

Like the other Galaxy foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold SE, too, is getting the update in Korea. It comes with the firmware version F958NKSU2BYCK and has a download size of around 5GB. Besides a major UI overhaul, new features, smoother animations, new icons, and plenty of customizations, the latest brings the April 2025 security patch for additional protection against dozens of vulnerabilities found in the previous software version.

If you have a Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, or Galaxy Z Fold SE in Korea, the One UI 7 update should be ready for installation. Simply go to Settings > Software updates and hit the Download and install button. Even if you live outside Korea, the wait shouldn’t be too long as Samsung is usually quick to expand the update’s availability to more markets. Before installing the update, follow these five steps for a smooth transition to One UI 7.

Samsung’s latest One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 comes with a notable fix: the Now Bar pill finally shows up for media playback, which isn’t the case for the Galaxy S25 and S24 series. While the update for the latest foldables doesn’t introduce major changes, it resolves the Now Bar functionality, which makes this development worth a headline.

For those unfamiliar, the pill-shaped Now Bar widget displays ongoing activities like timers, music playback, and food delivery tracking as a pill-shaped widget in the status bar and on the lock screen.

However, on devices like the Galaxy S25 series and some A-series phones running One UI 7, the Now Bar pill for media playback does not show up on the status bar. This bug also affects the Galaxy S24 series running the One UI 7 beta, where the media playback widget doesn’t even appear in the notifications shade. Not to mention, users of the series using the beta update have no other option but to access it through the expanded quick panel.

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 running One UI 7 beta have no such limitations. On these foldables, the Now Bar and media playback widget function as intended and offer easy access to media controls. This improvement is a welcome change, and we expect the S25 series to get the necessary fixes soon.

According to the source, some of the new Galaxy AI features seen on the Galaxy S25 series are absent from this update on the 6th generation foldables. Some of the new AI features will remain exclusive to the latest models? Well, it’s still in beta, and only time will tell if the previous speculations were right. These users now have a chance to explore the One UI 7.0 features and enhancements ahead of the stable release next month. This is a pretty significant update that brings tons of visual upgrades and enhancements, as well as many exciting features.

Zooming in and out just got easier. For people who have difficulty using pinch zoom, you can now activate 1-finger zoom from the Assistant menu, Swipe up or right to zoom in. Swipe down or left to zoom out.

The Assistant menu now does even more to help you control the screen. You can now double tap and touch and hold just by tapping a single button. New scroling controls let you move around the screen a specific distance by tapping the start and end points on the screen.

Customize your touch interactions

Get help choosing the settings that are most comfortable for you. New tests are available for the Touch and hold delay, Tap duration, and Ignore repeated touches settings. The test can tell you if your current settings are appropriate or need adjustments.

In Video Player, a button will appear at the end of each video that lets you start the video over again from the beginning.

Improved contacts list

For a more consistent experience, the same contact list now appears in both the Phone app and Contacts app. Menus and options are the same in both locations so you can always find what you're looking for. When searching for contacts, contacts you've searched for frequently appear at the top of the search results, helping you find the right person quickly.

Quickly add boarding passes to Samsung Wallet

When you view a supported airline or travel webpage that includes a boarding pass in Samsung Internet, a button will appear so you can add it to Samsung Wallet quickly and easily.

Activity forecasts

It's now easy to check if the weather is suitable for outdoor activities such as running, gardening, camping, and more. You can choose up to 3 activities to show in the Weather app.

Custom place labels

It's easier to keep track of different locations in the Weather app. You can now set custom labels to the locations you add, such as Home, Office, School, or any other place where you want to check the weather.

Game Booster's in-game panel has been redesigned, making it easier to change settings quickly without leaving the action.

Samsung’s upcoming foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip 7, might not be a major overhaul, but a new leak suggests at least one meaningful upgrade — a refined hinge mechanism that could make the display crease less visible.

A tipster going by the name @PandaFlashPro on X claims that Samsung has improved the hinge design on its next clamshell which should reduce the crease that runs across the middle of the foldable screen. 

While it’s not the first time we’ve heard about hinge refinements, any improvement in this area is welcome—especially since the crease remains one of the biggest pain points of foldable phones. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has already made some progress in this area, and if this rumor holds up, the Z Flip 7 might push things even further.

That’s pretty much it

That said, not all the leaks surrounding Samsung’s upcoming flip have been promising. For one, it might not bring a major upgrade in terms of performance. 

The Z Flip 7 is rumored to launch with an in-house Exynos 2500 chip instead of Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon. We will have to wait to see how it stacks up against the competition, but given Samsung’s mixed track record with Exynos chips, there’s reason to be cautious.

Moreover, it is also said to retain the same 25W wired charging speed as its predecessor, which feels a bit outdated compared to some of the faster-charging foldables on the market. The design may also stay largely the same, aside from a potentially slimmer profile.

Of course, AI-powered features will likely be a big part of the experience, just as they were with Samsung’s recent flagship devices. Whether these will be genuinely useful or just more of the same remains to be seen.

With Samsung’s Summer Unpacked still months away, there’s plenty of time for more leaks and details to surface. But based on what we know so far, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 looks to be yet another incremental upgrade rather than a major upgrade. Hopefully, Samsung has a few surprises up its sleeve.

Motorola Razr 50 Ultra: Runner Up

Motorola launched the Razr 50 Ultra just before the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and it currently sells for just Rs 79,999 with Amazon bundling it with Moto Buds+. At this price, it can rival affordable flagships. While it is the runner up, the Razr is a great alternative to the Z Flip 6. The flip phone has a taller primary and cover display. The device sports a 6.9-inch main pOLED (165Hz, FHD+, 3000nits) and a 4-inch pOLED cover panel (165Hz, 2400nits).

Unlike the Z Flip 6, it is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip that also powers various flagship killer models. While Samsung still dominates the foldable smartphone market, it doesn’t hold the market as it used to a few years ago. And no, the foldable market isn’t dropping. Instead, it is increasing by 20% year-on-year. The reason is solid offerings from Motorola and other brands at a competitive price.

The Razr 2023 from last year got Motorola an impressive showing in the foldable smartphone space, and now we have the more improved Motorola Razr Plus (2024), here to eat the market share of Galaxy Z Flip 6. Both are attractive clamshell handsets with their own pros and cons. In this comparison, we’ll dive deep into key aspects to see which one has the edge.

Motorola Razr Plus (2024) vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Pricing & availability

The Motorola’s Razr Plus (2024) landed on July 17 in the US and Australia, on July 20 in India, and on July 25 in the UK. Outside the US, it’s sold under a different name — Razr 50 Ultra. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 arrived a week later on July 24 in the US, UK, and India, and on July 31 in Australia.

The Razr Plus only comes in a single 12GB/256GB variant for $749, down from a launch price of $1219. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is offered in multiple storage options, with the 256GB model currently priced at $800 and the 512GB model at $912.

Durability plays a crucial role as well, with the Galaxy Z Flip 6 offering a better IP48 rating for dust and water resistance vs. IPX8 on the Razr Plus (2024), which lacks any dust protection rating.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 also has superior Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection for its cover display, whereas the Razr Plus (2024) has first-gen Gorilla Glass Victus. That means a more durable cover display on the Flip 6.

One of the biggest reasons for picking a Razr Plus over the Flip 6 would be great displays. The primary (inner) one on the Razr Plus measures 6.9 inches (vs. 6.7 inches on the Flip 6). Both are LTPO AMOLED panels, but Razr offers a higher refresh rate (for better smoothness) and peak brightness (for enhanced visibility outdoors).

The cover display on the Razr Plus is another solid reason to pick this device. It’s 4 inches (vs. 3.6 inches on the Flip 6). The more interesting thing to note here is that the Razr Plus 2024’s cover screen takes up the entire space (almost), while the Flip 6’s cover screen looks a little awkward and outdated.

The Razr Plus’ cover display has a higher refresh rate of 165Hz, whereas the Flip 6 only supports a 60Hz refresh rate. Scrolling and swiping are certainly smoother on the Motorola device.

This part of the comparison goes entirely to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, boasting a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The Razr Plus 2024 has a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is also a high-performance chip but not as good as the 8 Gen 3. (see the chip comparison here)

Both are excellent chips, though. You will have a lag-free experience on both devices with everyday tasks. The difference becomes visible only when playing high-end games or video editing.

Motorola Razr Plus (2024) vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Camera

Both clamshell foldable phones have a dual camera setup on the back, boasting an OIS-enabled 50MP primary camera. Paired with it is a 50MP telephoto camera on the Razr Plus 2024, whereas the Flip 6 opts for a 12MP ultrawide camera.

Both smartphones take excellent daylight shots using the primary camera. And even though the Galaxy Z Flip 6 lacks a periscope lens, the zoom shots are as good as Razr Plus’s. The ultrawide shots come out nicer on the Flip 6 to which the Razr Plus has no answer.

For selfies, the Razr Plus gets a 32MP snapper, while the Flip 6 has a 10MP shooter. Alternatively, you can use the rear cameras and the cover display in tandem to get much better selfies.

Both clamshell foldable smartphones have the same battery capacity of 4,000mAh, but the performance differs because of the chip’s efficiency and software optimizations. The Razr Plus lasts a few extra hours for web browsing and video streaming, while the Flip 6 offers a more extended gaming session on a single charge.

Overall, the Razr Plus 2024 has better battery efficiency, though the Flip 6 isn’t far behind.

Samsung is rolling out the first ever update for its latest foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 users in the brand’s home market of South Korea are getting the new update first. Although, a global release is expected to follow in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6 get August 2024 security patch

The latest update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 was rolled out in South Korea with the firmware version F741NKSU1AXH7. On the other hand, the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 6 is receiving the F956NKSU1AXH7 build. While these are the first software upgrades for the foldable phones, these are incremental updates with the only notable aspect being the August 2024 security patch.

For those unaware, the August 2024 security patch for Android fixes almost 50 security loopholes, which were discovered in the previous software version. The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s update is 408MB large (Via SamMobile), while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has received a 398MB update.

To recall, Samsung released the two foldable phones last month with the Android 14 OS based One UI 6.1.1 custom skin out of the box. So both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 had the newest software version and introduced the new Galaxy AI features with some minor improvements.

The update is expected to roll out to previous gen foldable phones from the brand next month. Once again, this update is only available to South Korean users at the moment. So if your device is eligible, you can check for the update by following these steps:

• Open ‘Settings’
• Head to the ‘Software update’
• Check if there’s an update
• If your device has received the update, you can go ahead and click ‘Download and install’

It is worth noting that you should update your smartphones with more than 30 percent battery.

The last time I used a flip phone was the Oppo Find N2 Flip, which debuted in 2022. I now possess the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, brimming with an array of AI features. It is the first flip phone to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. In India, the Galaxy Z Flip 6, currently has only one competitor, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra.

The Razr 50 Ultra features the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip and starts at Rs 99,999. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 starts at Rs 1,09,999. Here is a detailed review of the Z Flip 6 to help you decide if it is worth the premium price tag.

Design and Build

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 maintains the iconic clamshell design of its predecessors but introduces several enhancements that make it stand out. The phone features a sleek, compact form factor that easily fits in a pocket when folded yet opens to reveal a large 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display. On the other hand, the 3.4-inch cover screen continues to sport the folder-like design, which was introduced with the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The outer shell is crafted from a combination of glass and metal, giving it a sturdy yet elegant feel. The cover screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, enhancing its durability against scratches and drops. The edges of the phone are flat. The hinge and the frame of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 have improved armour aluminium frame. Therefore, it is designed to be more durable and offer a smoother folding and unfolding experience. The device can be closed or opened with just one hand. In my usage, I liked the fact that the hinge allows users to keep the device at different angles, which is not something new for Samsung’s Z-branded flip phones.

One of the standout features of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is its IP48 rating. This rating indicates that the phone is resistant to both dust and water. Specifically, the number ‘4’ in an IP rating signifies protection against solid objects larger than 1mm, while the IPX8 rating signifies that the device can withstand immersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for up to 30 minutes. It goes without saying that the Z Flip 6 has a premium appeal. The Z Flip 6 comes in six color options, such as Blue, Mint, Silver Shadow, Crafted Black, White, and Peach. The latter three are available exclusively through Samsung’s website. The retail box of the device includes the phone, a USB-C to USB-C cable, and some documents.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6’s main and cover displays remain largely unchanged from the previous generation. On the inside, it has a 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate; on the outside, it has a 3.4-inch cover screen with a 60Hz refresh rate. Nevertheless, for better visibility outdoors, the internal display now supports up to 2600 nits of peak brightness. The previous generation offered 1750 nits of maximum brightness. The cover screen allows for quick access to notifications, widgets, and even apps, significantly improving the usability of the phone when folded.

When it comes to streaming services, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 supports HDR10 and HD10R+ on the internal screen. However, there is no support for Dolby Vision. While the Z Flip 6 does not support all apps, it does support a wide range of widgets. When it comes to audio, one speaker is lodged in the earpiece, and the other is on the bottom edge for stereo output.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform for Galaxy, an overlocked edition of the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 powers the Galaxy Z Flip 6. The Z Flip 5 came with 8 GB of RAM, but the successor comes equipped with 12 GB of RAM. It comes to storage options, such as 256 GB and 512 GB.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has 300mAh bigger battery than the Galaxy Z Flip 5. While the battery size has been increased to 4,000mAh battery, the support charging speed remains. It offers up to 25W wired charging, which takes around 1:30 hours to achieve a full charge. The device also supports 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. As far as battery life, the Z Flip 6 can last for the entire day with normal use.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 runs on Android 14 and One UI 6.1.1. For Z Flip 6 users, Samsung has promised seven years of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. The Z Flip 6’s biggest attraction is that it comes with several new Galaxy AI features. Instead, it allows users to access widgets, such as Calculator, Calendar, Clock Contacts, Gallery, Global Goals, Google (finance watchlist), Phone, Reminder, SmartThings, Spotify, Voice Recorder, and Weather. In addition, users can install Good Lock’s app and its MultiStar app to access almost any app on the cover screen. The Galaxy AI features consist of the following:

1. Call Assist: Automatically transcribes and provides summaries of phone calls, making it easier to keep track of important conversations. This can be done using the “Live Translate” option while on a call. I did a test call wherein I spoke in English and my mom responded in Hindi. While the features are good, they aren’t very accurate all the time.

5. Transcript Assist: Converts voice recordings into text, allowing for simple documentation and reference. When you record a voice using the voice record, you can tap the Transcribe button to generate the text version of the recording. You can access the Summary and Translate options.
6. Browsing Assist: It works on Samsung’s built-in web browser, and it offers two features, such as Summarise and Translate.
7. Photo Assist: Uses generative AI to provide users with features to move, remove, and resize people and objects, and then uses AI to fill up empty areas. The Portrait Studio can also be used to transform pictures of people using a wide range of artistic styles.
8. Drawing Assist: It can turn drawings into images in the Samsung Notes app, Photo Editor, and the sidebar.
9. Photo Ambient Wallpaper: This feature available in the Wallpaper and Style section of Settings allows users to create dynamic wallpapers using AI to change a photo based on the time and weather.
10. Health Assist: Tracks health metrics and provides personalized insights and recommendations, integrating seamlessly with Samsung Health.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 features a new 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS support. The ultrawide and selfie cameras are the same ones that are available on the Galaxy Z Flip 5.

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 captures good shots in daylight, with consistent colors between the main and ultrawide cameras. In Portrait mode, the phone offers 1x and 2x zoom options. Skin tones appear natural, and color reproduction is impressive. The 10-megapixel front camera produces excellent selfies with a good dynamic range. However, you may prefer capturing selfies using the rear cameras, with the cover screen functioning as a viewfinder. Below are some of its samples.

The Auto Zoom feature is a new addition to the Flex Cam. When using the phone in its partially folded Flex Mode, it automatically adjusts the zoom level to ensure the perfect framing of your subject (people or pets) in your photo. It only works in the Photo mode, and not in other modes like Pro and Video.

When it comes to low-light photography, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 captures decent shots with reduced noise. Here are some camera samples taken in low-light conditions.

All three cameras are capable of shooting 4K videos at 60fps. OIS is available for 30fps Full HD and Quad HD video recordings.

It comes with support for a nano-SIM and eSIM and for security, it has the Samsung Knox and a side-facing fingerprint sensor.

Verdict

With a similar design onboard, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 may not seem like a major upgrade. However, the inclusion of the new chip, a higher amount of RAM, a big battery, a new primary camera, an improved build, longer software support, and plenty of AI features do show that it’s the biggest upgrade seen on a Flip series phone from Samsung. The only major competitor in most markets outside China is the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, which is priced at Rs 99,999 in India. In China, the phone faces competition from options like the Razr 50 Ultra, the Honor Magic V flip, and the Xiaomi Mix Flip. Certainly, one area to improve is the charging speed, which Samsung needs to upgrade on almost all its flagship devices.

Overall, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 stands out in the foldable phone market with its blend of performance, innovative AI features, and stylish design.

Xiaomi offers a 4.01-inch panel, while the internal panel has a 6.86-inch display. On the other hand, the Razr 50 Ultra sports a 6.9-inch primary screen and a 4-inch secondary display. So while all three models are quite comparable in the display department, Xiaomi and Motorola’s cover displays have a clear edge.

Flagship Chips

Xiaomi’s Mix Flip is a flagship grade foldable phone that is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. This is Qualcomm’s top end mobile processor that powers various ultra premium phones. Samsung also equips the same processor on its Galaxy Z Flip 6. In other words, the two devices have comparable performance. But this is where Motorola falls behind slightly. The Razr 50 Ultra is equipped with the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which is often seen in flagship killer/affordable flagship phones.

Camera

Both Xiaomi and Motorola again offer near-identical camera setup. The Razr 50 Ultra and the Mix Flip sport a 50-megapixel primary camera along with a 50-megapixel telephoto shooter on the rear, and a 32-megapixel selfie sensor on the front. Samsung did upgrade the rear camera on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with a 50-megapixel main camera, but this is paired with a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. Meanwhile, the front houses a 10-megapixel selfie shooter.

Battery Pack & Charging

Flip phones aren’t known to pack a big battery and this is one area where they are often lackluster. However, Xiaomi’s new Mix Flip has a robust 4,780mAh battery pack that supports 67W wired fast charging. This is noticeably larger than the 4,000mAh cell that powers both the Razr 50 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 6. Motorola brings a 45W wired fast charging, compared to the 25W on the Z Flip 6. Although, the Samsung phone has support for wireless charging as well.

Pricing

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6 is the most expensive foldable phone out of these three devices with a starting price tag of 1,099 US Dollars. At the same time, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra starts from 999 US Dollars, and the Xiaomi Mix Flip will reportedly cost 100 US Dollars less than the Galaxy Z Flip 6. This means that we can expect it to be around the 900 to 1000 US Dollar price range. With the Galaxy Z Flip 6 being its main rival, it offers competitive specs and a slightly more affordable price tag. If it does release in the global market like Europe and other Asian countries, then this could be a worthy flip phone to look out for.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 vs Razr 50 Ultra: Moto with the taller displays

On paper, Motorola appears to have a slight edge in the display department. The Razr 50 Ultra sports a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED primary display that offers Dolby Vision, FHD+ resolution, a 165Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 3000 nits of peak brightness. For its cover screen, you get a 4-inch LTPO AMOLED panel, with a 165Hz refresh rate, 2400 nits of peak brightness, Dolby Vision, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 6, on the other hand, features a slightly shorter 6.7-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X main display, FHD+ resolution, 2,600 nits of peak brightness, HDR10+, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The external panel is a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED display with 2,600 nits of peak brightness, 60Hz refresh rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. So Moto’s Rar 50 Ultra not only has taller screens, but brighter and smoother displays as well.

Design: Glass vs Leather

Sticking to the recent trend, Motorola released the Razr 50 Ultra with vegan leather on the back. Its screen is surrounded by an aluminum 6000 series material and a stainless steel hinge. The flip phone is rated IPX8 for water resistance.

Meanwhile, the South Korean tech giant retains the glass back on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 like its predecessor. This is surrounded by an enhanced armor aluminum frame that is tougher and more resistant to scratches. The Z Flip 6 is rated IP48 for both water and dust resistance.

Flagship Specs

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 is a premium foldable phone that is equipped with Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. In terms of performance, it is faster than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor which powers the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra. Both smartphones offer 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage.

Both devices are powered by a 4,000mAh battery pack. Although, Samsung’s latest flip phone only offers 25W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Razr 50 Ultra edges ahead with 45W wired fast charging, 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging support.

Camera

Samsung finally upgraded the camera on the Z Flip series with the rear now featuring a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and a 12-megapixel ultra wide angle lens. The front, however, still features the 10-megapixel camera.

Motorola also employs a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS but pairs it with a 50-megapixel telephoto shooter that offers 2x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, the front houses a 32-megapixel shooter.

Pricing

Being from its ultra-premium lineup, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has an exorbitant starting price tag of 109,999 INR for the 12GB + 256GB option, while the 12GB + 512GB variant costs 121,999 INR. It also comes in a Blue, Mint, and Silver Shadow variant.

Compared to this, Motorola made the Razr 50 Ultra quite affordable, with a 99,999 INR price tag for its lone 12GB + 512GB storage configuration. It is offered in Spring Green, Peach Fuzz, and Midnight Blue.

Samsung‘s latest foldable flagships, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, boast impressive specs and innovative features like on-device generative AI. However, these premium devices don’t seem to include a feature that’s become increasingly common on Android phones: seamless updates.

Introduced by Google nearly a decade ago, seamless updates allow Android phones to download and install updates in the background, minimizing downtime. Users can continue using their phones uninterrupted while the update installs on a separate system partition.

In contrast, traditional updates require a full reboot, locking users out of their devices for several minutes. While this might not be a dealbreaker for everyone, seamless updates offer a smoother experience, especially for those who frequently update their phones with security patches.

Samsung’s Galaxy A55, released earlier in 2024, was the first Samsung phone to adopt seamless updates, raising hopes that this feature would become standard across the company’s lineup. However, initial tests by SamMobile using developer tools suggest the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 lack this support.

Missing seamless updates from the factory likely means it won’t be added later. Implementing seamless updates requires a dual-partition system layout, and modifying this on existing devices can lead to stability issues – a risk Samsung likely won’t take.

The culprit behind this omission might be software size. Flagship Galaxy devices tend to have bloated software compared to mid-range counterparts. 

The A55’s firmware reportedly weighs in at around 8GB, while the Z Fold 5 and S24 Ultra have firmware sizes of 14GB and 16GB, respectively. This additional software may simply not leave enough space for a dedicated update partition on the Fold 6 and Flip 6.

With a commitment to seven years of software updates, users can expect numerous firmware downloads for the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. While these updates will bring security patches and bug fixes, they will unfortunately require the traditional reboot process, interrupting use for a few minutes each time.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 could be IP48 dust and water resistant

A new leak claims that dust resistance is coming to Galaxy foldables. Last week, a leak revealed almost everything about the 6th generation foldables, including images. However, there was a small detail that most of us probably missed. According to the leak, the 6th generation foldables could offer dust and water resistance. The phones are expected to come with an IP48 dust and water resistance rating.

The IP48 ingress protection rating means the phone will be able to protect itself from solid objects larger than 1mm. On the other side, it will be able to withstand immersion in water beyond 1 meter, just as we typically see with bar flagship phones.

While Samsung and many other companies have managed to make the hinge water-resistant, dust resistance is still a milestone to achieve. Protection against dust is especially important for foldable phones as they come with moving parts (the hinge components) that can wear and tear at a much faster rate if dust particles enter the hinge.

It’s important to note that Samsung has been using brush-like structures inside the hinge to prevent dust particles from entering. Although previous models are not officially rated for dust protection, rigorous testing has shown that they do offer some level of dust resistance. Nonetheless, we hope Samsung can overcome technological limitations to make this relatively new form factor even more reliable over time.

Razr 50 Ultra vs Galaxy Z Flip 6: Taller display on the Moto?

Since Samsung has yet to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 6, an accurate specs comparison can’t be made. But we’ve covered numerous rumors and reports that offer us a better idea regarding its specs and features. It is expected to sport a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X primary display with a Full HD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. For the cover screen, you get a smaller 3.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel which could also offer a 120Hz refresh rate.

On paper, Motorola may have an edge over Samsung’s new premium flip phone. Not only is the primary screen taller, but even the cover display is larger. The main screen is a 6.9-inch LTPO pOLED display with a 1-165Hz refresh rate, FHD+ resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, DCI-P3 color gamut, and 3000 nits of peak brightness. Its outer panel shares the same variable refresh rate with a 4-inch pOLED panel with FHD+ resolution. Both screens have Corning Gorilla Glass Victus for protection.

Samsung is a known display maker and would likely pack a bright panel on the Z Flip 6 as well. Incremental upgrades are also expected over its predecessor. But if you really need the screen real estate, Motorola won’t disappoint. Although, it remains to be seen what Samsung has in store for us.

Both brands trade blows in terms of hardware. Being high-end devices, you get top notch specifications on the two devices. Samsung is expected to edge out in performance with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on the Galaxy Z Flip 6. This processor is faster than the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on the Razr 50 Ultra, which is commonly found in flagship killers or affordable flagship phones.

The Galaxy Flip phones have faced criticism for their battery size, but the Z Flip 6 may bump the battery to 4,000mAh. This would make it on par with the Razr 50 Ultra. However, Motorola offers faster 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless fast charging. Samsung’s new Z Flip 6 would likely top out at 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging.

For optics, Samsung is rumored to have a 50MP + 12MP camera setup on the rear and a 10MP selfie shooter. The cameras on the Razr 50 Ultra packs higher resolution for the telephoto (50MP) and selfie shooter (32MP), but the main sensor matches it with a 50MP resolution.

Last year, Samsung released the Galaxy Z Flip 5 with a 109,999 INR price tag, which could be reflected in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 as well. We are unsure if the device would get a price hike. Reading the specs sheet, Motorola might seem like an obvious choice but Samsung is a veteran in the foldable phone segment. The overall experience also depends on the UI and more. Just a week before Samsung‘s next Galaxy Unpacked event, detailed specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been leaked. The leak comes courtesy of Evan Blass, a well-known tech leaker, who shared marketing images of both phones in his Substack newsletter.

The leaked information sheds light on some key improvements, including a brighter screen for the Fold 6 and a bigger battery, and better cooling for the Flip 6. There’s also good news on the durability front for both phones. 

Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 retains the same display sizes as its predecessor – a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch main foldable display. The main screen offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz variable refresh rate while the cover screen has 720 x 748 pixels resolution and runs at 60Hz.

The bigger news for the Flip 6 lies under the hood. It’s expected to pack a 4,000mAh battery, up from the 3,700mAh battery in the Z Flip 5. This should translate to improved battery life. Additionally, the Flip 6 will reportedly be the first phone in the series to feature a vapor chamber cooling system, which should help manage heat better during demanding tasks.

The camera setup on the Flip 6 sees an upgrade to a 50MP primary sensor, while the 12MP ultrawide sensor and the 10MP selfie camera remain unchanged.

Galaxy Z Fold 6

As for the Fold 6, it has a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main foldable display. Both displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, matching the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Fold 6 is expected to be slightly lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 239g compared to the Fold 5’s 253g and it will have the same 4,400mAh battery as its predecessor. 

The camera system remains unchanged as well, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. It also keeps the same dual front-facing cameras – a 10MP sensor on the cover screen and a 4MP sensor on the main display.

Shared Specs

In terms of durability, both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are expected to boast an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. While this isn’t quite as good as the IP68 rating found on many high-end smartphones, it’s a significant improvement over the IPX8 rating typically seen on foldable phones. The phones have frames made of Armor Aluminium and the display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Moreover, both foldable will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and offering storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The Fold 6 might also have a 1TB storage variant. 

They will run Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 on top which has Galaxy AI baked into it. Users will be able to use features like Circle to Search, Interpreter Mode, and Notes Summarization. But there’s no mention of any new AI features for foldables that were rumored earlier. 

Other shared features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, dual-SIM support, and connectivity options like 5G (sub-6GHz), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. However, Samsung DeX support is expected to be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

The ring around the rear camera modules on the Flip 6 appears thicker and more pronounced. The display borders also seem to have the same thickness.

An upgraded main sensor and a new chip

While the Galaxy Z Flip 6 looks similar to the predecessor from the outside, the internals reportedly offer some upgrades. The news comes from Ishan Agarwal who claims that the Z Flip 6 will be equipped with a 6.7-inch screen, same as the predecessor. It could be the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. Not to mention, it will offer a FHD+ resolution (1080 x 2640) and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Speaking of the cameras, the rear setup will likely include a 50MP main camera with an aperture of F1.8 and a 12MP ultrawide with an aperture of F2.2. The predecessor comes with a 12MP main sensor, so you can expect some improvements here. The front camera could also be upgraded from 10MP to 32MP this time for more detailed shots.

When it comes to performance, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, the same as the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The chipset will be paired with 12GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For reference, the Z Flip 5 comes with 8GB of RAM and the same storage type and options.

Surprisingly, the source claims that the phone could get slightly thicker at 7.4mm. For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is measured at 6.9mm. This could be due to the larger sensor or the slightly bigger battery. The phone will pack a 4000mAh battery, which is 300mAh higher than the predecessor’s. The phone will reportedly offer the same 25W charging speed as the predecessor.

Samsung is preparing to introduce new foldable smartphones. The Galaxy W25 and W25 Flip have passed the 3C certification and some claims have been made about the smartphones. MySmartPrice said that the Galaxy W25 will be the Chinese version of the Z Fold 6. But things are not as expected.

Many websites published false information about it. Here’s the real thing: the Galaxy W25 will be a rebranded version of the Z Fold 6 Slim or Z Fold 6 Ultra (the name is not certain) with the internal model number Q6A. When I contacted Ross Young, he had already confirmed this. I’m going to bring this information out again with our database, both on Android Headlines and now on Gizmochina.

This model number was revealed with the internal codename Q6A. Q6A belongs to a special foldable device that is expected to be the Z Fold 6 Ultra or Z Fold 6 Slim.

Ross Young said that he has a device with the internal codename Q6A and in addition, Young said that the new device is thinner than the Z Fold 6. That’s why everyone thought the device had the name Z Fold 6 Slim. Anyway, even if it has either the Ultra or Slim name, that’s not really the point.

Everyone on the internet is saying that the Galaxy W25 will be a rebranded version of the Z Fold6. This is completely wrong. The Galaxy W25 will have the same specifications as the Z Fold 6 Slim, not the Z Fold 6. The model number SM-W9025 belongs to the foldable smartphone with the internal codename Q6A. The Galaxy W25 will be a different smartphone than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Galaxy Z Fold6 Slim and Galaxy W25 will come with similar features. According to information from Ross Young, the foldable device with the internal codename Q6A is expected to be thinner and have a larger screen size.

As the name suggests, the phone will be an upgraded version of iQOO Neo 9 Pro. As per leaks, it will be not only faster but also arrive with a few useful features.

The device is tipped to offer a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, a 6.78-inch 1.5K flat OLED display, a 50MP + 50MP dual rear camera setup, a 16MP selfie camera, an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and a 5,500mAh battery.

Realme GT 6

Samsung has finally confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on July 10 globally.  The event will be held in Paris, France, and it will be livestreamed on Samsung’s website, Samsung Newsroom and Samsung’s YouTube channel at 3 p.m. CEST, 6 am. PDT, and 9am EDT.

The South Korean company has not confirmed the names of the devices to be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. However, it has been confirmed that the new Galaxy Z series will be announced, along with the integration of AI throughout the entire Galaxy ecosystem. As per reports, the brand will announce as many as seven new devices through the July 10 event.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6

As per the poster, the pre-reservation of these devices will kick off on June 26, 2024. Dutch e-commerce platform mobile.nl has reconfirmed that the Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on July 10, where the company will launch the 6th generation foldables. However, the European pricing of the Galaxy Z Flip6 has already been revealed ahead of the launch. The 256GB and 512GB versions of the phone will reportedly cost 1,340 euros (about 10,436 yuan) and 1,467 euros (about 11,425 yuan) respectively. According to a previous rumor, the phone will see a $100 price hike in the US as well.

For context, the same storage variants of the Galaxy Z Flip5 were priced at 1200 euros and 1320 euros respectively. Not to mention, this is a significant price hike.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 could offer upgraded internals with a similar design

In terms of the hardware, the Galaxy Z Flip6 has some notable upgrades. The phone will come with the more capable Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. The RAM is also upgraded from 8GB to 12GB which may help the device to run some on-device LLMs better for a better implementation of on-device AI features besides enabling more room for your apps.

In addition, the device will reportedly equip a 50MP main sensor, that is also used in the Galaxy S24 series. This is expected to offer improved picture quality as compared to the predecessor.

The Z Flip6 is also said to equip a 4000 mAh battery, which is significantly larger as compared to the 3700 mAh capacity of the predecessor.

However, the design appears to be similar to the predecessor with the same 3.4″ external screen and the same camera layout. The inner foldable panel also appears to be of the same size as the predecessor. As the phone sees a significant price hike, Samsung may see greater market challenges in certain regions.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 dummy images leaked. Thanks to 9to5Google’s collaboration with Sonny Dickson, we now have more photos of these devices. The foldable devices will be officially unveiled in Paris on July 10. A few weeks before the unveiling, prototype and dummy photos of the devices leaked, giving us important information about the devices.

The devices shown in the photos are prototypes or “dummy” models, indicating they will undergo extensive changes during the design process. These images might be showcasing a display with a more pronounced seam than what the final version will have, or they might use an older display just to highlight the phones’ silhouette and overall design. However, users are hopeful for a less prominent crease when the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are fully opened to 180 degrees.

Additionally, the photos display a black prototype variant with “Samsung” roughly stamped on the hinges. This could mean Samsung is considering replacing the etched logo seen on previous Fold and Flip models with a stamped logo, as seen here. The etched logo is generally preferred, as it adds a touch of sophistication to these $2,000 devices.

Another small detail to note is the possible flare in the hinge protection plate at the top and bottom of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This is somewhat challenging to confirm, and the lighting in the images might be misleading, but it looks like the hinge extends a few millimeters further from the main phone panels at the ends compared to the middle, where the Samsung logo is situated. There is no such visible detail for the Flip 6.

Two leaks earlier today shed light on the entire specs of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. In a new leak, we now have details on when these products will be launched as well.

Reliable tipster Evan Blass shared a GIF of the upcoming Samsung’s Unpacked banner at X (formerly Twitter). The banner, possibly from the Samsung Korea site, shows that the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked even shared GIFt will take place on July 10, 2024, starting at 10 PM Korea time (6 AM Pacific and 9 AM Eastern).

In the GIF, we can also see two shadows being projected from the rotating box on the right. One shadow forms the symbol for Galaxy AI that Galaxy AI will remain a significant focus in the new releases. The other shadow resembles the Eiffel Tower, adding weight to earlier rumors that the event will be held in Paris.

Other rumors also suggest that Samsung might hold its summer Unpacked events earlier this year, possibly to get its products out before the Olympics in Paris starting July 26.

Apart from the foldable, other possible announcements at the event include new Galaxy Watch smartwatches including an Ultra model and Galaxy Bfds wireless earbuds. Samsung earlier this year unveiled the Galaxy Ring at its January Unpacked event, and it is possible we might see more information about this wearable device during the July event as well.

However, these upgrades could result in higher pricing. This leak hints states that the upcoming flip phone will come in two storage configurations, namely 256GB and 512GB. Samsung is rumored to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 6 for a starting price tag of 1,099 US Dollars, while the 512GB variant may cost 1,219 US Dollars.

If this is true, we are getting a 100 US Dollar price hike over the previous gen Galaxy Z Flip 5. A previous leak had revealed the color options of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which include Mint, Silver Shadow, Yellow, and Blue. The new foldable phone could weigh 187 grams in weight. Galaxy Z Flip 6 details:

The listing of the phone (with model number SM-F741U) on the FCC database confirms the use of dual-cell batteries with EB-BF741ABY and EB-BF742ABY model numbers. On the other hand, the PSI listing confirms the battery capacities – 1097mAh and 2790mAh. So the total battery capacity is 3887mAh, which Samsung can market as a 4000mAh typical battery capacity.

For context, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 came with a 3591 mAh battery pack (971mAh + 2620mAh) which the company marketed as a 3700mAh battery.

Now we also know that the phone will support NFC and WiFi 6E, thanks to the FCC listing. Additionally, the UL Demko certification listing confirms that the Z Flip 6 will support the same 25W wired fast charging.

The phone will be powered by a Galaxy-branded Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset (with slightly different clock speeds) and will be paired with 8GB RAM.

According to the FCC listing, the Galaxy Ring (with the model number SM-Q503) will be available in sizes ranging from 5-12. 5-7 sizes will equip a 17 mAh battery, 8-11 will get an 18.5 mAh capacity, and the biggest one will equip a 22.5 mAh battery. The render shows a refreshed speaker grill design and bigger camera modules

Ahead of the event, design information of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has been revealed thanks to a leaked render of the phone with a third-party protective case. To be clear, the 6th generation flip phone will only offer a couple of minor design changes.

The Z Flip 6 render shows even sharper edges of the frame as compared to the Galaxy Z Flip 5. There is another design change that looks similar to the Galaxy S24 series – the speaker grill. Instead of the separate holes now it comes with a single wide one.

Additionally, the camera modules in the render are larger than the predecessor, and the space between the two modules has also been reduced.

You may also notice an additional hole in the frame at the top of the phone, whereas the Z Flip 5 only had one. However, this appears to be a mistake, as the Z Flip 5 has all the sensors that the Galaxy S24 Ultra has (1 below and 2 on top), with the same three similar holes. In contrast, the Z Flip 6 render shows four of them.

That being said, take things with a pinch of salt as this is still a leaked render of the phone and not an image of the actual product. We are still quite a few days away from the release and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

According to the Korean publication The Elec, Samsung won’t use its Exynos chips inside the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold6 and Z Flip6. Samsung has powered all of its foldable phones exclusively with Snapdragon chips, so fat. So it shouldn’t be a surprise that the company will use a Snapdragon chipset once again on the 6th generation foldables.

However, Samsung has improved both the performance and power efficiency of its in-house silicon in the last couple of generations and the goal is likely to have more control over its smartphone business while saving costs.

In fact, Exynos has a long history of performing slightly or considerably worse than its Snapdragon counterpart. Now it finally seems that Exynos is catching up with Qualcomm. A recent report suggests that the upcoming Exynos 2500 chipset will outperform the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 in terms of power efficiency. Nonetheless, the new chipset will likely debut with the S25 series and the current options for the 6th generation foldables are the Exynos 2400 and last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

Exynos 2400 is reportedly still not efficient enough to become a viable option

Despite all the achievements, according to the Korean publication, Samsung MX (the smartphone business unit) has decided to continue the partnership with Qualcomm when it comes it its foldable phones.

Reportedly, Samsung is avoiding using the currently available Exynos 2400 chipset due to it not meeting the power efficiency requirement. The fifth-generation flip phone from last year has a 3700mAh battery.

While there are rumors that Samsung has managed to pack a 3880mAh capacity inside the Z Flip 6, which it may advertise as a 4000mAh battery (which, if true, will be the same as the Galaxy S24), this is still not enough for a flagship chipset.

This could be a reason behind Samsung prioritizing power efficiency even if it’s not cost-effective for them.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 has already surfaced on Geekbench and the phone is expected to be launched somewhere around mid-July.
