According to him, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/30/rumor-samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-to-cost-same-as-z-fold2/">third-gen Galaxy Z Fold</a> will have a smaller display than the predecessor but the Z Flip 3 will grow slightly bigger.</p>
<figure id="attachment_341780" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-341780" style="width: 4000px" class="wp-caption aligncenter"><img loading="lazy" class="wp-image-341780 size-full" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear.jpg?x10805" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 Mystic Bronze Front Rear" width="4000" height="2375" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear.jpg 4000w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-768x456.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-1024x608.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-696x413.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-1068x634.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-707x420.jpg 707w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-2-Mystic-Bronze-Front-Rear-1920x1140.jpg 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 4000px) 100vw, 4000px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-341780" class="wp-caption-text">Representative image: Galaxy Z Fold2</figcaption></figure>
<p>Precisely, he <a href="https://twitter.com/DSCCRoss/status/1342116007171784705">says</a>(via <a href="https://www.gsmarena.com/galaxy_z_fold3s_screens_to_shrink_xiaomi_working_on_three_different_foldables-news-46904.php">GSMArena</a>) the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-fold-3">Galaxy Z Fold 3</a>&#8216;s main display(Inner Display) will get smaller than 7.59-inch on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold2-5g/">Z Fold2</a>. Accordingly, Samsung will go ahead with a 7.55-inch main display and also shrink the cover display to 6.21-inches. He adds that the resolution of main display would be around 2208&#215;1768 pixels with 5:4 aspect ratio and 375 PPI.</p>
<p>Previously, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/05/galaxy-z-fold-2-arrives-with-bigger-displays-rest-of-the-specs-under-wraps/">Galaxy Z Fold2 that got announced back in August</a> has a 6.23-inch Cover display. Ross says that a smaller size on the front is to accommodate the S-Pen inside the chassis. If we recall, a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/30/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-with-an-s-pen-report/">previous patent indicated</a> that Samsung will finally introduce the stylus on Foldable devices.</p>
<p>With this, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will reportedly be the first foldable with a UTG display to use a Stylus. If you recall, Lenovo already has a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/22/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-fold-china-launch-price-specs-features/">similar device with stylus support</a> Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold but it uses a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/CPI">CPI</a> screen. To quickly brush you up, CPI(Colorless Polyimide) is a Plastic film but <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/UTG">UTG</a>(Ultra-Thin Glass) is stronger. Anyway, the Z Fold 3 is likely to sport an improved UTG display with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/23/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-to-adopter-aes-digitizer-thicker-utg-for-s-pen-support/">AES digitizer support</a> and an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/06/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-3-with-under-display-camera-likely-to-offer-full-screen-experience/">under-display camera</a>.</p>
<p>That said, Ross also opens the possibility of a &#8220;W22&#8221; foldable which according to him would be like a Z Fold3 Ultra and will be limited in quantities. Next, we have leaks on the next clamshell devices as well. Both the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-flip-3">Z Flip3</a>, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-flip-lite">Z Flip Lite</a> will get a bigger 6.70-inch display. This is a 0.03-inches up from the predecessor. Also, the cover display is 1.81-inches on the Z Flip 3 so far.</p>
<p>Among this, the Z Flip 3 will feature an <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/LTPO">LTPO</a> display with a 120Hz refresh rate. That&#8217;s it for now and we will have to wait for more details in the future. In any case, Samsung is expected to launch 4 foldable devices next year across different price points.</p>

<p>The info comes from Ross Young, the founder and lead analyst at Display Search and DSCC. In a tweet posted earlier today, he revealed that the second half of the coming year is going to be an exciting one for the foldable smartphone market. He said Samsung will announce at least three models, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/oppo">OPPO</a>, <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/vivo">Vivo</a>, and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/xiaomi">Xiaomi</a> will announce four models between them, and <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/google">Google</a> will also announce one model.</p>

<p lang="en" dir="ltr">Second half of 2021 is going to be really exciting for foldable smartphones. At least 3 models from Samsung, 4 models from Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi and 1 model from Google&#8230;BTW, no Z Fold Lite &#8211; Z Flip Lite. Specs for all are in our latest Foldable Report.</p>

<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>We already know Samsung will announce the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-fold-3">Galaxy Z Fold 3</a> and the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-flip-3">Galaxy Z Flip 3</a> in the third quarter of the year from leaks from the past couple of weeks but Ross&#8217;s tweet says there will be at least three models. In the same tweet, he says there will be no Galaxy Z Fold Lite but there will be a Galaxy Z Flip Lite.</p>
<p>The <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/12/03/leak-reveals-2021-galaxy-z-fold-series-screen-size-and-launch-dates/">Galaxy Z Fold Lite was reported to be scheduled for a Q1 2021 release</a> but not only is it not launching in the first quarter but it won&#8217;t even launch at all according to Ross Young. We already heard of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/18/samsung-likely-working-on-galaxy-z-flip-lite/">lite version of the Galaxy Z Flip</a> last month, so it is not a surprise.</p>

<p></strong></p>
<p>Moving on from Samsung, the three big Chinese players, OPPO, Vivo, and Xiaomi will also launch their first foldable smartphones next year. What makes it even more exciting is that one of them will launch two models. Of all three, only <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/03/27/xiaomis-foldable-smartphone-features-in-official-video-teaser/">Xiaomi has demonstrated a working prototype</a> but all three of them have filed patents for various foldable smartphone designs. Recently, an <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/10/05/oppo-utility-patent-clamshell-foldable-smartphone-hinge/">OPPO patent revealed a phone with a design similar to that of the Galaxy Z Flip</a>.</p>

<p>Google is also on the list of manufacturers announcing a foldable smartphone in 2021. More than a year ago, Google <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2019/05/08/google-working-foldable-smartphone-prototypes/">confirmed it was working on foldable smartphone prototypes</a> and in August of this year, an internal document revealed that <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/06/google-pixel-5a-pixel-foldable-phone-and-pixel-6-could-be-pixel-devices-arriving-in-2020/">a foldable phone codenamed “passport”</a> may be among the <a href="http://gizmochina.com/tag/pixel">Pixel</a> devices launching next year.</p>
<p>With all these devices lined up for launch, 2021 is going to be an exciting year for the foldable smartphone category and mobile tech in general</p>

<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-321153" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold.jpg?x10805" alt="Galaxy Z Flip Mirror Gold" width="1233" height="743" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold.jpg 1233w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-300x181.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-768x463.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-1024x617.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-696x419.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-1068x644.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Galaxy-Z-Flip-Mirror-Gold-697x420.jpg 697w" sizes="(max-width: 1233px) 100vw, 1233px" /></p>
<p>According to the <a href="http://www.thelec.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=9037">report</a>, <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/samsung">Samsung</a> will focus on popularizing the foldable after the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-s21">Galaxy S21</a> launch. It apparently sensed the attraction of foldable devices. Similarly, a DSCC report recently predicted <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/09/16/dscc-samsung-will-lead-the-foldable-smartphone-market-with-over-80-share-by-year-end/">Galaxy Z Flip as the top-selling foldable</a> for 2020. All this means that Samsung can&#8217;t afford to lose one eye for another. The company began the year with a vision of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/11/samsungs-second-foldable-device-arrives-as-the-1380-galaxy-z-flip/">spearheading</a> the foldable devices market individually.</p>
<p>However, the S series got over-shadowed by the Galaxy Z Flip. This was evident with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/05/27/samsung-galaxy-s20-lineup-sales-q1-2020/">poor sales</a> of Samsung Galaxy S20 in Q1. Add to this, the S20 Ultra&#8217;s Exynos version had various issues like <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/04/13/galaxy-s20-ultra-users-are-facing-autofocus-performance-heating-and-battery-issues/">throttling in Performance, Camera</a>, and Battery life. And now, with the report saying that Samsung has already limited the initial production of Galaxy S21 to 6 million units, it just can&#8217;t repeat the mistake again.</p>
<p>Accordingly, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/03/samsung-galaxy-s21-series-launch-and-pre-order-dates-revealed/">Galaxy S21 series is likely to launch</a> a month earlier. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 2 is reportedly going to be one of the five foldable models next year. Citing industry insiders, the report says that successors of Galaxy Z Flip(likely <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/Galaxy-Z-Flip-2">Z Flip2</a>) and Z Fold(likely <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/23/samsung-reportedly-confirms-galaxy-z-fold-3-launch-in-june-2021-and-galaxy-note-line-discontinuation/">Z Fold3</a>) will launch next year.</p>
<p>Additionally, three new foldable smartphones are under development. And we feel that one of them could very well be the affordable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/18/samsung-likely-working-on-galaxy-z-flip-lite/">Galaxy Z Flip Lite</a> that is said to come with a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/UTG">UTG</a> display. Anyhow, the Galaxy Z Flip2 itself hasn&#8217;t appeared much on the radar of leaks.</p>
<p>It is likely to darn a display larger than the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip">Z Flip</a>(1.1-inch) but smaller than the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/motorola-razr-2019/">Motorola Razr</a>. Considering, it&#8217;s coming in June 2021, we can expect features like <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/snapdragon-875">Snapdragon 875</a> SoC, 5G, fast charging, and more.</p>

Now, a tip suggests that the company could also be working to get the foldable devices affordable to the masses.</p>
<p><img loading="lazy" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-305003" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b.png?x10805" alt="Galaxy Z Flip featured" width="769" height="483" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b.png 769w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-300x188.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-768x482.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-696x437.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Galaxy-Z-Flip-featured-b-669x420.png 669w" sizes="(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px" /></p>
<p>The latest tip comes from DSCC&#8217;s Ross Young who says(via <a href="https://www.androidheadlines.com/2020/11/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-cheaper-variant.html">AH</a>) that there&#8217;s no information regarding <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-fold-lite">Galaxy Z Fold Lite</a> anymore. This is in response to an older tweet that said Samsung could be working on multiple foldables <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/26/samsung-is-working-on-three-foldables-including-a-model-with-support-for-s-pen/">including a Fold &#8216;Lite&#8217; version</a>. However, Ross says that he is hearing info about a <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/galaxy-z-flip-lite">Galaxy Z Flip Lite</a> smartphone.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s surprising considering early rumors didn&#8217;t spoil anything about a &#8216;Lite&#8217; version of the clamshell phone. But emphasized more on the Z Fold Lite. In fact, the latter was even mentioned in the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/15/list-of-2021-samsung-flagships-includes-galaxy-z-fold-fe-but-omits-galaxy-note-series/">recent rumors</a> under the naming Galaxy Z Fold FE. Anyway, Ross goes on to say that the Galaxy Z Flip Lite will adopt the UTG(Ultra-Thin-Glass) like the predecessor.</p>
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-width="550" data-dnt="true">
<p lang="en" dir="ltr">We don&#39;t hear about Z Fold Lite anymore but we are hearing about Z Flip Lite with UTG&#8230;</p>
<p>&mdash; Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) <a href="https://twitter.com/DSCCRoss/status/1328909346240155648?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 18, 2020</a></p></blockquote>
<p><script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p>
<p>If we recall, Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/02/11/samsungs-second-foldable-device-arrives-as-the-1380-galaxy-z-flip/">introduced the UTG technology</a> with the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip">Galaxy Z Flip</a> back in February. Accordingly, it replaces the CPI(Colorless Polyimide) and promises more durability and scratch resistance. After this, Samsung has never looked back at the cost-cutting CPI solution. In fact, it has included the extra UTG layer on the <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-2">Z Fold 2</a> as well. That said, it is very appreciative of Samsung not to compromise a cheaper foldable phone.</p>
<p>This is because Ross has replied to the user on Twitter agreeing that the Galaxy Z Flip Lite will be a cheaper <a href="http://www.gizmochina.com/tag/foldable-smartphone">foldable smartphone</a>. And apparently, Samsung will make many of them to drive sales. Having said that, there is no information on the specs and launch date of the device.</p>
<p>Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Samsung brings both the affordable <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/08/29/galaxy-z-fold-lites-official-support-page-launch-could-be-near/">Z Fold Lite</a> or just the Z Flip Lite to the masses. In any case, if previous reports are true, we won&#8217;t see a &#8216;Lite&#8217; version of the Z Flip anytime soon as the Z Flip 2 itself is likely <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2020/11/03/new-info-says-galaxy-z-flip-2-launch-now-scheduled-for-summer-2021/">postponed to Summer 2021</a>.</p>
