Samsung’s One UI 8 Brings New Features to Galaxy S24 Series and 2024 Foldables

Talking about the 2024 flagship smartphones first, the South Korean tech giant is bringing the stable build of the major One UI 8 update to the Galaxy S24 lineup. The company just rolled out the Android 16 OS based software update for the latest Galaxy S25 series, with a recent sighting also confirming One UI 8.5 on the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Now, Samsung’s Korean community forums confirmed that the One UI 8 update is arriving for non-beta users in the brand’s home market. The build numbers for these updates are S928NKSU4CYI7, S926NKSU9CYI7. S921NKSU9CYI7. Furthermore, Tipster Tarun Vats revealed in a recent tweet that Samsung is bringing the One UI 8 stable build to the 2024 premium foldables.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is receiving the F956NKSU2CYI7, F956NOKR2CYI7, and F956NKSU2CYHC builds, while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 is receiving the F741NKSU2CYI6, F741NOKR2CYI6, and F741NKSU2CYHC versions. Similar to the Galaxy S24 series, the foldables are receiving the major software update in South Korea. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 may look sleeker than last year’s model, but under the hood, it sticks to familiar specs — a 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging, just like the Galaxy Z Fold6. So, how does it actually perform when plugged in? A recent charging test puts both foldables head-to-head, and the results offer some interesting insights.

Tech YouTuber Ben from Lover of Tech put the Z Fold7, Z Fold6, and Galaxy S25 Ultra through a side-by-side charging test, using official Samsung chargers — 25W for the Folds and 45W for the Ultra. To keep things fair, all devices had batteries rated at 100% health. The test, shared on July 17, shows the Z Fold7 consistently edging ahead of its predecessor, though by small margins.

At the 15- and 30-minute marks, both Fold models were neck and neck — 29% and 54% respectively. But after 45 minutes, the Z Fold7 pulled slightly ahead at 74%, compared to the Fold6’s 70%, and maintained that lead through the end. The Fold7 reached 100% in 1 hour 26 minutes, finishing just four minutes faster than the Fold6.

But more notably, the Z Fold7 also ran cooler during charging, averaging around 2°C lower than the Fold6. This cooler performance likely comes down to Samsung’s improved heat management — possibly aided by the Fold7’s slimmer design and updated thermal system. While this lower temperature might seem like a minor upgrade, it can have a meaningful impact on long-term battery health.

As for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with its larger 5,000mAh battery, took 1 hour 17 minutes to fully charge.

While Samsung hasn’t changed the charging hardware, subtle software tweaks — possibly tied to One UI 8 — seem to have given the Z Fold7 a slight edge over the Fold6 in both speed and temperature.

Are these few minutes’ difference and cooler operation enough to justify its $1,999 price tag? That’s up to buyers. But it’s clear Samsung’s latest foldable brings more to the table than just a design refresh.

Thanks to Smartprix, here’s a first look at One UI 8 in its Alpha stage, installed on a Galaxy Z Fold 6.

Initial hands-on images reveal One UI 8 as a near-twin to its predecessor. Rather than a radical overhaul, One UI 8 appears as an optimized evolution, which addresses lingering issues from One UI 7 while integrating Android 16’s latest features. The leak’s timing might surprise users, but it likely reflects Samsung’s intent to avoid past delays.

Notable changes are subtle but promising

The File Manager app sports a refreshed “Categories” section with a cleaner, more organized layout, while the Gallery app hints at minor interface tweaks. So we can say Samsung is focusing on refining the core apps for an improved user experience in One UI 8. One UI 8’s primary goal seems to be to smooth out One UI 7’s rough edges, with more significant changes likely to emerge as development progresses.

A highlight is the expansion of the “Now Brief” feature, previously exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, now set to reach older flagships like the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. For those unfamiliar, it analyzes daily routines for personalized suggestions, broadening its appeal. While the current implementation of the S25 series doesn’t help much, it could become better as Samsung’s AI gets smarter and more capable of analyzing daily events.

With the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 expected to launch with One UI 8 within three months, Samsung is reportedly aiming for a polished release, blending One UI 7’s foundation with Android 16’s new features.

Samsung has finally started rolling out the One UI 7 update. The Galaxy S24 series got the first bite, but that’s not the only device getting the treat today. The update is also rolling out to some Galaxy foldables, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, and Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition (also known as Galaxy Z Fold SE).

Galaxy Z Fold 6 One UI 7 update details

Samsung is rolling out the stable One UI 7 update to Galaxy Z Fold 6 in Korea. However, it won’t be long before it expands to other parts of the world. Users in Korea can identify the update by the firmware version F956NKSU2BYCK.

The update is rolling out to both beta and non-beta users. For non-beta users, the update has a download size of around 5.2GB. However, beta users only need to download a 400MB update package. That’s because they have already received major changes and new features. The update changes the beta state to stable and might include minor improvements and some fixes.

Galaxy Z Flip 6 getting One UI 7 update details

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is also getting the One UI 7 update in Korea. The update is tagged with firmware version F741NKSU2BYCJ and has a download size of around 5.1GB. Since it’s a pretty big update package,  I recommend downloading it over a stable and fast Wi-Fi connection instead of using mobile data. For beta users, the update only weighs around 400MB.

Galaxy Z Fold SE One UI 7 update details

Surprisingly, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is also getting the stable One UI 7 update today. Samsung had already announced the One UI 7 release date for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, but the Galaxy Z Fold SE was not a part of the announcement. It’s good to see such surprises from Samsung, but not the kind of surprises it has given in the last few months.

Like the other Galaxy foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold SE, too, is getting the update in Korea. It comes with the firmware version F958NKSU2BYCK and has a download size of around 5GB. Besides a major UI overhaul, new features, smoother animations, new icons, and plenty of customizations, the latest brings the April 2025 security patch for additional protection against dozens of vulnerabilities found in the previous software version.

If you have a Galaxy Z Fold 6, Galaxy Z Flip 6, or Galaxy Z Fold SE in Korea, the One UI 7 update should be ready for installation. Simply go to Settings > Software updates and hit the Download and install button. Even if you live outside Korea, the wait shouldn’t be too long as Samsung is usually quick to expand the update’s availability to more markets. Before installing the update, follow these five steps for a smooth transition to One UI 7.

Samsung is pulling out all the stops to encourage owners of older Galaxy Z Fold models to upgrade to the latest Galaxy Z Fold 6. One of them is offering enhanced trade-in values that make the transition more appealing. The South Korean giant is providing significant discounts for previous-generation foldables, which includes the Z Fold 3 as well.

Up to $1000 trade-in credit for the users of the Z Fold 5 and Fold 4

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 are eligible for a $1,000 trade−in credit, while the Galaxy Z Fold3, released in 2021, isn’t far behind with a $900 trade-in offer. Even owners of the original Galaxy Fold from 2019 can trade in their device for a $300 discount, and Galaxy Z Fold 2 users can receive a $600 price cut toward the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

For the users of those older foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 is a powerhouse, which features the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. It boasts a 5.6mm (unfolded) slim design, and an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance (up from Z Fold 5’s IPX8).

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is already being tested for One UI 7, with a stable release expected soon. The stable rollout is confirmed to begin on April 7, and Z Fold 6 is expected to be one of the first devices to get the update.

Aside from the trade-in credits, Samsung is also reportedly keeping at least two of One UI 7’s AI features exclusive exclusive to the newer models, which, again, seems to be intended to motivate users in upgrading to the newer models.

For those unfamiliar, the pill-shaped Now Bar widget displays ongoing activities like timers, music playback, and food delivery tracking as a pill-shaped widget in the status bar and on the lock screen.

However, on devices like the Galaxy S25 series and some A-series phones running One UI 7, the Now Bar pill for media playback does not show up on the status bar. This bug also affects the Galaxy S24 series running the One UI 7 beta, where the media playback widget doesn’t even appear in the notifications shade. Not to mention, users of the series using the beta update have no other option but to access it through the expanded quick panel.

In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 running One UI 7 beta have no such limitations. On these foldables, the Now Bar and media playback widget function as intended and offer easy access to media controls. This improvement is a welcome change, and we expect the S25 series to get the necessary fixes soon.

According to the source, some of the new Galaxy AI features seen on the Galaxy S25 series are absent from this update on the 6th generation foldables. Some of the new AI features will remain exclusive to the latest models? Well, it’s still in beta, and only time will tell if the previous speculations were right. A bit later than usual, Samsung announced the One UI 7 beta program in early December 2024. To no one’s surprise, the Galaxy S24 series was the first in line to receive the early treat, followed by a few betas in the same month. Months went by, but Samsung didn’t bring it to any other device until today — until now. The One UI 7 beta is finally reaching more Galaxy devices.

The Samsung devices in question are the Galaxy Z fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The beta program for these foldables has been spotted in India, Korea, and the US. However, it will also be available for the users in the UK any time now.

The One UI 7 beta update for the Galaxy Z Fold 6 users in the US comes with firmware version F956U1UEU2ZYBJ. In India, the beta update carries the firmware version F956BXXU2ZYBJ. For the Galaxy Z Flip 6 users in South Korea, the update is tagged with firmware version F741NKSU2ZYBJ. It’s a major upgrade, so the update package is also bulky, weighing around 5GB in size. In addition to One UI 7 features and enhancements, the update includes the March 2025 security patch. You can read the full changelog here.

The One UI 7 beta program gives you an early taste of the major release, but there are also some risks associated with it. The beta builds generally have bugs and broken features. So, it’s better if you install such builds on your non-primary device. And make sure you have backed up all your data because there’s always a risk of update failure.

The first step is to ensure that the One UI 7 beta program is available for your Galaxy device in your region (eligible countries include India, Korea, the UK, and the US). How would you know this? Open the Samsung Members app and look for the One UI 7 beta program banner. If you can’t find this, check back again later.

Once you see the One UI 7 beta program banner, click the Enroll button and fill in the required details to complete the process. Then, open the Settings app, tap Software update, and hit the Download and install button.

Samsung is seemingly joining the race for slimness. The brand experimented with the South Korea-exclusive Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition—removed the S Pen. And now it seems that Samsung is following the same route for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which is expected to launch in July or August this year.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be less than 4.2mm in thickness

According to X tipster @kro_roe, the Z Fold 7 will be the slimmest foldable of its time, which is a bold claim for sure. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 measures 5.6 mm when unfolded, which is much thicker than its Chinese competitors, such as the 4.35 mm Honor Magic V3. The upcoming Oppo Find N5 (or the OnePlus Open 2), which is scheduled to launch on February 20, is even thinner when unfolded—4.2mm.

As revealed by real-life images, the phone is almost the same thick as the USB-C port. As an Oppo exec commented, the charging port becomes the limiting factor in how slim they can make it. Something like 4.18mm will still be slimmer than the 4.2, so you cannot rule out the possibility entirely.

The tipster claims that the Z Fold 7 will lack some S Pen features, although he didn’t mention which specific features the stylus will lack. The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen lacks Bluetooth connectivity and the features it enabled in the past, and people aren’t happy about it. We will need to see how the mass market accepts this change given the fact that the large screen foldables are even more focused on multitasking and the S Pen is a key part of a lot of the functionalities.

Another aspect I’m personally interested to see in action is the crease. While its competitors have been using a different hinge mechanism that solves the issue, Samsung has made very little progress here. It remains to be seen how the crease on the Z Fold 7 evolves, especially with the phone becoming even slimmer.

Having used this device quite a bit, I was pretty impressed by the overall package. It has a hefty Rs 159,999 (roughly 1,885 US Dollars) for the 512GB option. It measures an ultra thin 5.2mm when unfolded (11.2mm when closed) and weighs 236 grams. This is pretty heavy but this isn’t surprising for its form factor.

The Chinese brand made impressive upgrades to the design with a carbon fiber hinge, reasonable width and heft, and a premium feel. Vivo X Fold 3 Pro’s primary screen is a tall 8.03-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, 2K+ resolution, and more, while the cover panel is a 6.53-inch has similar specs but with a 1.5K resolution. Under the hood, it packs the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for flagship performance and a massive 5,700mAh battery pack for great battery life. You also get 100W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support.

So even if you take away the folding design, Vivo still offers true flagship grade hardware. While foldable smartphones bring a unique design, they are not well known for battery life or cameras. But the Vivo X Fold 3 Pro has a decent battery life and the same camera setup as the Vivo X100 series. To recall, the X100 lineup is the brand’s last gen flagship phone. So the camera setup can hold its own against most devices in the market.

Samsung is the runner up in this category with its Galaxy Z Fold 6. The South Korean tech giant is a veteran in this category and is the most popular brand for foldable phones. Based on Samsung’s track record of foldable phones, the premium tri-fold will likely use the latest Qualcomm flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

For those curious about the multitasking capabilities, key advancements in the Snapdragon 8 Elite include a 40% boost in GPU performance and a 35% enhancement in ray tracing capabilities as compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of the existing Galaxy Z Fold 6. These improvements, coupled with a 44% increase in power efficiency, make the chipset ideal for demanding tasks like gaming and multitasking, ensuring a reasonable performance upgrade for the upcoming Samsung tri-fold.

The chipset features an upgraded NPU (45% improvement in AI capabilities), ensuring more complex Galaxy AI features for the tri-fold phone.

However, the tri-fold will also likely need to be slimmer than the existing Galaxy Z Fold 6, so no larger camera sensors are expected inside as well. This makes them a bit more versatile than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which features a 50MP (main) + 12MP (ultra wide angle) + 10MP (telephoto) setup. Even the selfie cameras are two 32MP shooters on the main the cover screen, while Samsung has a 10MP shooter on the external panel and a 4MP under display sensor on the bigger display. In the official statement, the brand claimed that the issues with Galaxy Z Fold 6’s paint job are due to third party chargers. Samsung claims that the high speed on these unofficial chargers causes this issue since they are not properly grounded. This can affect the anodized finish of the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which delaminates the paint.

Samsung adds that the current leak when holding the phone while using third party chargers is the problem, not the foldable phone’s build quality. Furthermore, it claims that the EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) massagers powered by a phone can lead to paint related issues as well. This is demonstrated in diagrams on the official website.

Samsung is rolling out the first ever update for its latest foldable smartphones. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 users in the brand’s home market of South Korea are getting the new update first. Although, a global release is expected to follow in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 & Galaxy Z Flip 6 get August 2024 security patch

The latest update for the Galaxy Z Flip 6 was rolled out in South Korea with the firmware version F741NKSU1AXH7. On the other hand, the more expensive Galaxy Z Fold 6 is receiving the F956NKSU1AXH7 build. While these are the first software upgrades for the foldable phones, these are incremental updates with the only notable aspect being the August 2024 security patch.

For those unaware, the August 2024 security patch for Android fixes almost 50 security loopholes, which were discovered in the previous software version. The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s update is 408MB large (Via SamMobile), while the Galaxy Z Flip 6 has received a 398MB update.

To recall, Samsung released the two foldable phones last month with the Android 14 OS based One UI 6.1.1 custom skin out of the box. So both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 had the newest software version and introduced the new Galaxy AI features with some minor improvements.

The update is expected to roll out to previous gen foldable phones from the brand next month. Once again, this update is only available to South Korean users at the moment. So if your device is eligible, you can check for the update by following these steps:

Magic V3 with the taller displays

Honor first launched the Magic V3 in its home market of China last month. It sported a 6.43-inch OLED cover display with curved edges, FHD+ resolution, Dolby Vision, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 5000 nits of peak brightness. Meanwhile, its main screen is an 7.92-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with Dolby Vision, a 120Hz refresh rate, 2156 x 2344 resolution, and 1,800 nits of peak brightness.

Sasmung, on the other hand, offers an LTPO AMOLED 2X panel on both cover and main screens. However, the external screen is a 6.3-inch display with 968 x 2376 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and 2,600 nits of peak brightness. The primary screen is a 7.6-inch panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, 1856 x 2160 resolution, and 2600 nits of peak brightness. So apart from both screens being taller, the external one on the Magic V3 isn’t simply a secondary display and maintains higher resolution and brightness.

On the hardware front, both phones are quite competitive. The two foldable phones are equipped with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. You can max out the Magic V3’s memory with 16GB + 1TB. Samsung only offers 12GB + 1TB on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Although, this shouldn’t make a major difference in daily use.

Samsung‘s latest foldable flagships, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, boast impressive specs and innovative features like on-device generative AI. However, these premium devices don’t seem to include a feature that’s become increasingly common on Android phones: seamless updates.

Introduced by Google nearly a decade ago, seamless updates allow Android phones to download and install updates in the background, minimizing downtime. Users can continue using their phones uninterrupted while the update installs on a separate system partition.

In contrast, traditional updates require a full reboot, locking users out of their devices for several minutes. While this might not be a dealbreaker for everyone, seamless updates offer a smoother experience, especially for those who frequently update their phones with security patches.

Samsung’s Galaxy A55, released earlier in 2024, was the first Samsung phone to adopt seamless updates, raising hopes that this feature would become standard across the company’s lineup. However, initial tests by SamMobile using developer tools suggest the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 lack this support.

Missing seamless updates from the factory likely means it won’t be added later. Implementing seamless updates requires a dual-partition system layout, and modifying this on existing devices can lead to stability issues – a risk Samsung likely won’t take.

The culprit behind this omission might be software size. Flagship Galaxy devices tend to have bloated software compared to mid-range counterparts. 

The A55’s firmware reportedly weighs in at around 8GB, while the Z Fold 5 and S24 Ultra have firmware sizes of 14GB and 16GB, respectively. This additional software may simply not leave enough space for a dedicated update partition on the Fold 6 and Flip 6.

With a commitment to seven years of software updates, users can expect numerous firmware downloads for the Z Fold 6 and Flip 6. While these updates will bring security patches and bug fixes, they will unfortunately require the traditional reboot process, interrupting use for a few minutes each time.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 could be IP48 dust and water resistant

A new leak claims that dust resistance is coming to Galaxy foldables. Last week, a leak revealed almost everything about the 6th generation foldables, including images. However, there was a small detail that most of us probably missed. According to the leak, the 6th generation foldables could offer dust and water resistance. The phones are expected to come with an IP48 dust and water resistance rating.

The IP48 ingress protection rating means the phone will be able to protect itself from solid objects larger than 1mm. On the other side, it will be able to withstand immersion in water beyond 1 meter, just as we typically see with bar flagship phones.

While Samsung and many other companies have managed to make the hinge water-resistant, dust resistance is still a milestone to achieve. Protection against dust is especially important for foldable phones as they come with moving parts (the hinge components) that can wear and tear at a much faster rate if dust particles enter the hinge.

It’s important to note that Samsung has been using brush-like structures inside the hinge to prevent dust particles from entering. Although previous models are not officially rated for dust protection, rigorous testing has shown that they do offer some level of dust resistance. Nonetheless, we hope Samsung can overcome technological limitations to make this relatively new form factor even more reliable over time.

The Chinese Realme GT 6 will be the brand’s proper flagship smartphone in a long time. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and feature a metal frame.

The handset will arrive with a 6.78-inch 1.5K 144Hz OLED display, a 5,800mAh battery, 120W wired charging support, a 50MP + 8MP dual camera system, and a 16MP selfie camera.

Lava Blaze X

The Lava Blaze X is set to launch in India on July 10 (Wednesday). The budget smartphone is expected to come with a MediaTek Dimensity 7050 SoC and a curved display.

The phone will be offered in violet and gray color options. It will be available in 128GB and 256GB storage variants paired with up to 8GB RAM.

The product is expected to be priced below ₹20,000 in the country.

Motorola Moto G85

The Motorola Moto G85 will go official in India on July 10 (Wednesday). The device is already official in several regions, and hence, everything about is already known.

Just a week before Samsung‘s next Galaxy Unpacked event, detailed specifications of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 have been leaked. The leak comes courtesy of Evan Blass, a well-known tech leaker, who shared marketing images of both phones in his Substack newsletter.

The leaked information sheds light on some key improvements, including a brighter screen for the Fold 6 and a bigger battery, and better cooling for the Flip 6. There’s also good news on the durability front for both phones. 

Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Galaxy Z Flip 6 retains the same display sizes as its predecessor – a 3.4-inch cover screen and a 6.7-inch main foldable display. The main screen offers Full HD+ resolution and 120Hz variable refresh rate while the cover screen has 720 x 748 pixels resolution and runs at 60Hz.

The bigger news for the Flip 6 lies under the hood. It’s expected to pack a 4,000mAh battery, up from the 3,700mAh battery in the Z Flip 5. This should translate to improved battery life. Additionally, the Flip 6 will reportedly be the first phone in the series to feature a vapor chamber cooling system, which should help manage heat better during demanding tasks.

The camera setup on the Flip 6 sees an upgrade to a 50MP primary sensor, while the 12MP ultrawide sensor and the 10MP selfie camera remain unchanged.

Galaxy Z Fold 6

As for the Fold 6, it has a 6.3-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch main foldable display. Both displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, matching the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The Fold 6 is expected to be slightly lighter than its predecessor, weighing in at 239g compared to the Fold 5’s 253g and it will have the same 4,400mAh battery as its predecessor. 

The camera system remains unchanged as well, with a 50MP primary sensor, a 12MP ultrawide sensor, and a 10MP telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. It also keeps the same dual front-facing cameras – a 10MP sensor on the cover screen and a 4MP sensor on the main display.

Shared Specs

In terms of durability, both the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 are expected to boast an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. While this isn’t quite as good as the IP68 rating found on many high-end smartphones, it’s a significant improvement over the IPX8 rating typically seen on foldable phones. The phones have frames made of Armor Aluminium and the display will be protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

Moreover, both foldable will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, paired with 12GB of RAM and offering storage options of 256GB and 512GB. The Fold 6 might also have a 1TB storage variant. 

They will run Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1.1 on top which has Galaxy AI baked into it. Users will be able to use features like Circle to Search, Interpreter Mode, and Notes Summarization. But there’s no mention of any new AI features for foldables that were rumored earlier. 

Other shared features include a side-mounted fingerprint reader, stereo speakers, dual-SIM support, and connectivity options like 5G (sub-6GHz), Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. However, Samsung DeX support is expected to be exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 6.

CMF Phone 1

CMF, the sub-brand of CMF, has scheduled an event for July 8. The company will unveil its inaugural smartphone at this conference called CMF Phone 1.

This device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 SoC. It will be the first handset in India to feature this chip.

We already know quite a few things about the upcoming foldables thanks to numerous leaks, rumors, and appearances on certification listings. The phone will come with a slightly wider screen and will have sharper corners somewhat similar to the design language of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. According to a previous rumor from tipster Ice Universe, the width of the Galaxy Z Fold6’s outer screen is 60.2 mm, while the width of the Galaxy Z Fold5 is 57.4 mm, an increase of 5%.

Galaxy Z Fold6 renders have emerged in three different colors

Now the latest news is that the book-style foldable will have a pink color option. Passionategeekz has shared renderings of the phone in three different colors – pink, blue, and silver. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold6 could be the first Galaxy foldable with a pink color variant. In addition to the above colors, tipster Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy Z Fold6 will also come with black and white colors in the online market.

The Galaxy Z Fold6 will boast a 7.6″ inner screen, which is the same as the Galaxy Z Fold5. However, the schematic of the phone shows a wider 8:6.9 aspect ratio as compared to the predecessor. The phone will be 132.6mm and 153.5mm in width and length respectively. For context, the width and length of the Z Fold5 in the unfolded position are 129.9mm and 154.9mm respectively. In addition to that, previously leaked image of the phone have revealed a slimmer top and bottom bezel on the outer screen.

On the inside, the phone will boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

If the renders are accurate, the camera module protrusion might be slightly increased compared to its predecessor. However, tipster Ice Universe has previously claimed that the phone will feature the exact same cameras as its predecessor. Thus, we will have to wait and see if Samsung has indeed kept the camera system unchanged.

Samsung has finally confirmed that its next Galaxy Unpacked event will be held on July 10 globally.  The event will be held in Paris, France, and it will be livestreamed on Samsung’s website, Samsung Newsroom and Samsung’s YouTube channel at 3 p.m. CEST, 6 am. PDT, and 9am EDT.

The South Korean company has not confirmed the names of the devices to be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. However, it has been confirmed that the new Galaxy Z series will be announced, along with the integration of AI throughout the entire Galaxy ecosystem. As per reports, the brand will announce as many as seven new devices through the July 10 event.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6

The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 are most likely to be the star of the Galaxy Unpacked event. Both devices are expected to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset. Samsung plans to host the next Galaxy Unpacked event on June 10. At the event, the brand is expected to launch its next generation of foldable smartphones likely called the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Ahead of the launch, Tarun Vats on X (formerly Twitter) has shared a screenshot revealing the reservation date of these smartphones.

As per the poster, the pre-reservation of these devices will kick off on June 26, 2024. Tarun has added that this pre-reservation date is for the Indian region, so we are currently unsure of the reservation windows in other regions. It was recently confirmed via a Geekbench listing that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 unlocked US model will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. The tipster also spotted a Galaxy Z Flip 6 Indian model on Geekbench equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. Keep reading to learn more about these smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 specs:

As per leaks so far, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature a 7.6-inch internal Dynamic AMOLED 2X display and a 6.3-inch external Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, both with a 120Hz refresh rate. The internal screen will have a resolution of 2160 x 1856 pixels, while the external screen will offer 2376 x 968 pixels. The outer display will have a 10MP selfie camera in a punch-hole cutout, and the interior display will include a 4MP sensor.

Under the hood, it will house a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. It is said to feature a 4,400mAh battery with 25W charging speed. For cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 will include a 50MP f/1.8 main OIS sensor capable of 8K video recording, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a 10MP telephoto unit with 3x zoom. Connectivity options will likely include a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, Wi-Fi6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, UWB, and 5G.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 specs:

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 will have a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2640 x 1080 and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It also features a 3.4-inch cover display with a resolution of 720 x 748. Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy chipset, it shares the same clock speeds as the Galaxy S24 series, with cores running at 3.39 GHz, 3.1 GHz, 2.9 GHz, and 2.2 GHz. Storage options are 256 GB and 512 GB.

The camera setup includes a 50 MP f/1.8 main camera, a 12 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 10 MP front-facing camera without autofocus. Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 dummy images leaked. Thanks to 9to5Google’s collaboration with Sonny Dickson, we now have more photos of these devices. The foldable devices will be officially unveiled in Paris on July 10. A few weeks before the unveiling, prototype and dummy photos of the devices leaked, giving us important information about the devices.

The devices shown in the photos are prototypes or “dummy” models, indicating they will undergo extensive changes during the design process. These images might be showcasing a display with a more pronounced seam than what the final version will have, or they might use an older display just to highlight the phones’ silhouette and overall design. However, users are hopeful for a less prominent crease when the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip are fully opened to 180 degrees.

Additionally, the photos display a black prototype variant with “Samsung” roughly stamped on the hinges. This could mean Samsung is considering replacing the etched logo seen on previous Fold and Flip models with a stamped logo, as seen here. The etched logo is generally preferred, as it adds a touch of sophistication to these $2,000 devices.

Another small detail to note is the possible flare in the hinge protection plate at the top and bottom of the Galaxy Z Fold 6. This is somewhat challenging to confirm, and the lighting in the images might be misleading, but it looks like the hinge extends a few millimeters further from the main phone panels at the ends compared to the middle, where the Samsung logo is situated. There is no such visible detail for the Flip 6.

Despite these minor observations, Samsung’s design improvements are evident in these prototype units. Both phones appear to have a smaller bezel around the internal display, and their overall footprint looks slightly more refined compared to last year’s models.

We are inching closer to the launch of the sixth-generation Galaxy foldables. Some previous rumors claimed that the phone will have a wider cover display, which many people wanted since the beginning.

Book-style foldables (like the Z Fold devices) are meant to act like a mainstream smartphone when closed, while they hold a larger display inside. However, Samsung‘s taller aspect ratio on the inner display makes the outer one significantly narrow so that the phone does not feel as convenient as a bar phone while closed.

Devices with a wider aspect ratio such as the Pixel Fold, or even the OnePlus Open emphasized the difference. So a wider outer display on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 will offer a significantly improved user experience compared to the previous Galaxy foldables and strengthen its position in the market.

Case manufacturer Thinborne has shared an image of their Galaxy Z Fold 6 case

However, a recently revealed image of a protective case of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 shows an aspect ratio very similar to the Z Flip 5. US-based case manufacturer Thinborne shared the image on X (formerly Twitter) from their official account. You can see the image below.

A previously leaked image hinted that the cover display will only be a couple of millimeters wider and will also come with sharper corners. The notable change is that the display borders will be close to symmetrical this time.

Speaking of the inner display, it will be a 7.6″ foldable AMOLED panel. Although the display size remains the same, the aspect ratio will be different (slightly wider). So the phone will be slightly shorter and wider. The phone will also reportedly be 15 g lighter than its predecessor.

However, the OneUI 6.1.1 itself is projected to be a major upgrade with additional AI features and camera optimization. The news comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe. He claims that the build will be released to the Galaxy S24 series in August. However, he didn’t mention an exact date for that.

Galaxy Z Fold 6 will get new AI features with OneUI 6.1.1

The tipster also adds that Samsung will include a new graffiti generation AI-powered tool in the upcoming One UI 6.1.1 release. According to him, the feature makes “very good use of S Pen and imagination.” The feature could enable users to turn whatever they write using the S Pen into graffiti using AI.

Notably, the AI features that are available in OneUI 6.1 don’t take advantage of the S Pen. Samsung is likely trying to make the most out of the hardware it already offers with Galaxy AI. Samsung could also improve the system animations with the new release.

Samsung typically begins testing the new Android versions around July or August. The company releases a stable build with the latest Android version around October just after the public release of the new Android version. However, according to the tipster, Samsung could delay the release of the Android 15-based OneUI 7. He says “One UI 7 will not arrive very early, because there are special circumstances this year.”

Since the launch, the Galaxy S24 series has yet to receive a significant firmware update. Ice Universe claims that the OneUI 6.1.1 build, which will be rolled out to the series in August, could also bring camera optimizations and address many image processing issues.

Two leaks earlier today shed light on the entire specs of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. In a new leak, we now have details on when these products will be launched as well.

Reliable tipster Evan Blass shared a GIF of the upcoming Samsung’s Unpacked banner at X (formerly Twitter). The banner, possibly from the Samsung Korea site, shows that the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked even shared GIFt will take place on July 10, 2024, starting at 10 PM Korea time (6 AM Pacific and 9 AM Eastern).

In the GIF, we can also see two shadows being projected from the rotating box on the right. One shadow forms the symbol for Galaxy AI that Galaxy AI will remain a significant focus in the new releases. The other shadow resembles the Eiffel Tower, adding weight to earlier rumors that the event will be held in Paris.

Other rumors also suggest that Samsung might hold its summer Unpacked events earlier this year, possibly to get its products out before the Olympics in Paris starting July 26.

Apart from the foldable, other possible announcements at the event include new Galaxy Watch smartwatches including an Ultra model and Galaxy Bfds wireless earbuds.
