Amazon is already rolling out some aggressive Samsung deals ahead of Prime Day, with notable discounts on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Watch 7.

The biggest savings are on the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The 512GB model, which normally sells for around $2,120, has dropped to as low as $1,705 on Amazon depending on the color option, while some listings are hovering closer to $1,770. The 256GB version is also seeing steep cuts, falling to roughly $1,536–$1,600.

Samsung is offering similar discounts through its own store. The company currently lists the 256GB model for $1,599 and the 512GB version for $1,799. The 1TB variant is available for $2,099, down from its usual $2,499 price tag.

The Fold 7 is Samsung’s latest book-style foldable, pairing a standard phone-sized outer screen with a large 8-inch display that unfolds into a tablet-like experience. It runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite “for Galaxy” chip and features a 200MP main camera, making it one of Samsung’s most feature-packed smartphones.

There’s also a deal on the Galaxy Watch 7. The 44mm model is currently available for around $200, down from its typical $280–$330 range depending on the retailer. That’s one of the lowest prices we’ve seen on Samsung’s latest smartwatch since launch.

The Watch 7 offers a 1.5-inch AMOLED display, health tracking features including sleep monitoring and heart-rate tracking, and Samsung’s latest Exynos W1000 processor. It’s also rated IP68 for dust and water resistance.

With Prime Day approaching, more Samsung discounts are expected to appear over the coming days. For now, though, the Fold 7 and Watch 7 are among the more notable deals already live.

Samsung’s next book-style foldable is already starting to show up in leaks. A new tip from a known source on X gives us an early look at what Samsung might be planning for its 2026 foldable refresh.

If the timeline holds, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to launch around July 2026, roughly a year after the Fold 7. The device is said to feature an 8-inch inner folding display paired with a 6.5-inch cover screen, both supporting 120Hz refresh rates. Samsung is also reportedly working on improving durability this time.

The main screen could use a dual-layer ultra-thin glass design, along with a laser-drilled metal support plate underneath. In simple terms, that should help with strength and possibly reduce the visibility of the crease. The design itself might get some attention too. Early details suggest the Fold 8 will be thinner and lighter than before.

On the performance side, Samsung is tipped to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset. Memory options could go up to 16GB RAM, with storage ranging from 256GB to 1TB. There’s also mention of a vapor chamber cooling system, something the Galaxy Z Fold 7 lacks. Paired with the new chipset, this should help improve sustained performance compared to the Fold 7.

Camera details are a bit mixed, but the latest leak points to a 200MP main sensor, backed by a 50MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto with 3x zoom. That setup sounds solid on paper, though it doesn’t fully line up with some earlier reports about a telephoto upgrade.

Battery life might see a noticeable boost. The Fold 8 is finally expected to move beyond the 4,400mAh mark and has also appeared in the 3C certification database, hinting at a charging upgrade.

Of course, these are still early leaks, so things can change. But if this direction holds, Samsung seems focused on refining the experience rather than reinventing it this year.

Oppo just unveiled its latest foldable flagship, the Find N6. And honestly, it might be the most exciting foldable to launch since the first-generation Galaxy Z Fold. At least to me. 

The Z Fold was the starting point. It proved that a smartphone could fold, juggle multiple screens, and adapt to how you want to use it.

The Find N6, on the other hand, is trying to solve the biggest problem every foldable has had so far: the crease. Yes, finally — a foldable that doesn’t constantly remind you of its hinge with a distracting crease after just a few days of use.

But how do Oppo’s and Samsung’s 2026 foldables stack up against each other? Let’s take a look. 

Design and build

Starting with the design, surprisingly, both the Oppo Find N6 and Galaxy Z Fold 7 measure 4.2mm thin when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded. Neither company can really claim a major advantage in thickness. However, where things diverge is in materials and durability. 

The Find N6 is one notch above in engineering, thanks to a titanium alloy hinge, aircraft-grade aluminum frame, and something it calls Nanocrystal Glass. 

There’s also IP58/IP59 certification, which goes beyond the typical water resistance by adding protection against dust and even high-pressure water jets. That’s still rare in foldables.

Samsung, meanwhile, sticks with its familiar Armor Aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2. The Z Fold 7 is 10 grams lighter than the Find N6 at 215 grams, but it’s unlikely to make a major difference. Its IP48 rating feels more conservative in comparison to Oppo, though.

The hinge is another subtle difference. Oppo says its “Zero-Feel Crease” has a complex four-axis structure and memory glass that can restore flatness over time. Samsung’s Armor FlexHinge is an evolution of what it has already been doing for years. 

Displays

Both phones are built around large inner displays. The Find N6 has an 8.12-inch inner screen, while the Z Fold 7 sticks with an 8.0-inch panel. On paper, that’s not a huge difference, but Oppo offers higher brightness numbers, hitting up to 2,500 nits on the inner display and 3,600 nits on the cover screen.

Samsung’s panel is still strong, with a peak brightness of 2,600 nits and its usual AMOLED tuning.

Resolution and sharpness are part of the story. But Oppo is trying to solve one of foldables’ biggest annoyances, the crease. Its “Zero-Feel” approach, backed by memory glass and a redesigned hinge, makes the crease less visible and less tactile over time.

Samsung, interestingly, took a different route by removing S Pen support. That decision allows it to use a slightly thicker ultra-thin glass layer to improve durability, but it also removes one of the Fold series’ more unique features.

Performance

Performance is where things get a bit more nuanced. The Oppo Find N6 runs on the newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, while the Z Fold 7 uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Both are built on a 3nm process, but Oppo’s chip is technically a generation ahead, with higher clock speeds and a newer GPU.

Practically, both phones should feel fast. But Oppo’s combination of newer silicon, LPDDR5X RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage could deliver slightly better efficiency and faster data handling. Samsung uses LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.

The Z Fold 7 also comes with One UI 8 with the promise of seven major Android updates. Meanwhile, the Find N6 offers ColorOS 16 with five years of OS updates and six years of security patches.

Cameras

Both phones now use 200MP main sensors, but the supporting cameras are a different story.

Oppo goes all-in with a more balanced setup: a 50MP ultrawide, a 50MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom, and Hasselblad color tuning. 

Samsung, on the other hand, pairs its 200MP main sensor with a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto. While the main camera is excellent and borrowed from its Ultra lineup, the secondary cameras feel less ambitious.

Video capabilities are strong on both sides, but Oppo also has Dolby Vision recording at up to 4K 120fps, while Samsung offers 8K recording at 30fps. 

Battery and charging

The Find N6 packs a 6,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which is significantly larger than Samsung’s 4,400mAh cell. This alone could translate to noticeably better endurance. But charging speeds widen the gap even further. 

The Find N6 supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, along with multiple fast-charging standards. Samsung offers 25W wired and 15W wireless charging.

Extras and features

There are a few other smaller differences that might matter depending on how you use your phone.

Oppo has stylus support on both screens, satellite connectivity on select models, and an infrared port, which is still useful in some regions. Samsung offers Ultra Wideband support and DeX, which can be more relevant if you’re already invested in its ecosystem.

Connectivity is largely similar with support for Wi-Fi 7 and modern positioning systems on both models. 

Verdict

With the Find N6, Oppo is pushing aggressively on hardware with a bigger battery, faster charging, brighter displays, and a more ambitious camera system. 

Samsung’s approach is more iterative. The Z Fold 7 refines the design, improves the hinge, and leans heavily on software longevity and ecosystem features.

If you’re looking at pure hardware, the Find N6 is hard to ignore. It pushes ahead in areas that matter daily, like battery life and charging. But if long-term software support, ecosystem integration, and a slightly lighter build matter more, the Z Fold 7 is still a good device.

As the Galaxy S26 series hits shelves, Samsung has shifted its focus back to the One UI 8.5 beta program, which began in December 2025. For a long time, it remained exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series, but that changed today, as the brand has just released the first One UI 8.5 beta for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

We knew it was coming. Earlier this week, One UI 8.5 beta builds for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were spotted on Samsung’s servers, and shortly after, Samsung created One UI 8.5 beta program sections for the devices on its community forum.

For the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, the first One UI 8.5 beta comes with a firmware version ending in ZZC5 (via) and a hefty download size of 4.2GB. As of writing this post, the beta has been spotted in India and South Korea. It will also expand to a few more regions, including the US, the UK, Poland, and Germany.

If you’re rocking either of these foldable phones, you may have a chance to get early access to the latest features and upgrades in One UI 8.5. For this, you’ll need to sign up for the One UI 8.5 beta program, as mentioned in the following section.

How to get One UI 8.5 beta on your Galaxy device

Keep in mind that beta builds may contain bugs and broken features. If you are okay with that, follow these steps to get the One UI 8.5 beta on your device.

First step: Enroll in the One UI 8.5 beta program

1. Open the Samsung Members app on your phone.
2. Make sure you’re signed in to the app with your Samsung account. 
3. Tap on the One UI Beta Program banner. If you don’t see this, the beta program isn’t currently available for your device.
4. After tapping on the beta banner, accept the terms and conditions to enroll in the beta program.

Second step: Download and install the update

1. Go to Settings > Software updates and tap Download and install.
2. Once the download is completed, tap Install now.

It’s a major upgrade, so the installation time may be longer. After upgrading to One UI 8.5, you may notice higher battery usage in the first few days. This is completely normal as the device undergoes background optimization after every feature upgrade.

The brand hasn’t even announced whether it will expand to more devices. Well, that could change soon, as preparation for the One UI 8.5 beta program has begun for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Earlier this week, One UI 8.5 firmware files for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 were spotted on Samsung’s servers, but they don’t guarantee a beta release. The same has been spotted for dozens of Galaxy devices in recent weeks. What further solidifies the arrival of the One UI 8.5 beta for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 is that the tech giant has created One UI 8.5 beta program sections for these two devices on its Community forum (via). This strongly suggests that Samsung is preparing to begin the One UI 8.5 beta program for these phones soon.

Once the beta program is live, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 owners will have a chance to get early access to the latest features and upgrades in One UI 8.5. Keep in mind that the seats are limited and fill up very quickly. So, you must apply for the beta program as soon as it opens. We’ll update you on the website when that happens.

While the One UI 8.5 release is yet to happen, Samsung is already laying the groundwork for its next major release, One UI 9. A few Galaxy devices have been spotted on Samsung’s test servers with new build versions pointing to One UI 9.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 were the first phones to show up on the server with One UI 9 test builds (1, 2). Both foldables will launch around July 2026 with One UI 9 right from the box.

Perhaps the most intriguing is the appearance of a mysterious third device with the modem number SM-F971U running the build version F971USQU0AZB1. This could mean Samsung might also launch a third foldable phone alongside the Fold 8 and Flip 8 in the second half. We don’t know what it would be called, but rumors say this could be the Galaxy Wide Fold.

Alongside these three upcoming foldable phones, the One UI 9 test build has also been spotted for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. This is kind of surprising, as the Galaxy Z Fold 7 hasn’t even received the One UI 8.5 update.

So, here’s a list of Samsung devices that are currently under One UI 9 testing:

The list is currently small, as Samsung began testing One UI 9 just recently. It will grow in the coming days, especially after the One UI 8.5 release, when more of the company’s focus will shift towards One UI 9.

It’s important to highlight that One UI 9 testing is happening internally, so you can’t download and test the firmware on your Galaxy device. The presence of such test builds on the server indicates that the company is testing the firmware behind closed doors to ensure a stable, smooth rollout in the future.

While Samsung has begun development of One UI 9 for its Galaxy devices, its primary focus will be the Galaxy S26 series, which is launching later this month with One UI 8.5. In late April, we might see One UI 8.5 rolling out to older Galaxy devices. You can check the list of eligible devices here.

The launch of Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold marks a major shake up in the foldable phones segment in years. While a tri-folding device isn’t new, the Galaxy Z TriFold brings the unique design to the mass market across the globe. It brings impressive specs and features despite its form factor, but does that make it a clear upgrade over the familiar Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7? Here’s a deeper look at how these two different foldables stack up against each other.

Display & Form Factor: More Screen, More Compromises

The biggest draw of the TriFold is its 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display that folds inward twice. This basically gives users a tablet sized experience in a pocketable form. When completely folded, the device has a 6.5-inch cover display, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the latter only offers an 8-inch main screen.

While this is a smaller display compared to the Galaxy Z TriFold, the Z Fold 7 is the slimmest foldable phone in the market, and it is also no heavier than a typical premium smartphone. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z TriFold weighs a heavier 309 grams and measures 12.9mm thick as well. So the trade off is quite clear: the TriFold brings a true tablet experience with a 4:3 aspect ratio that is better suited for multitasking, media consumption, and other tasks, but that comes at the cost of a bulkier and heavier phone.

Battery, Hardware & Performance

One of the biggest weaknesses of Samsung’s foldable phones was the battery life. Owing to the slim size and older battery Li-Po battery tech, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 houses a small 4,400mAh battery pack. Even the charging rate is mediocre, with 25W wired charging speeds and 15W wireless charging support.

On the other hand, TriFold is powered by a much larger 5600mAh three-cell battery. This larger phone also gets faster 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging speeds. In other words, the TriFold is better equipped for heavier workloads like multitasking, creative apps, media editing, and even gaming.

The larger screen does consume more battery, and the second hinge adds another point of risk for the design. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is easier to carry and has been touted as one of the best foldable phones by many. Being lighter and relatively simpler, the Z Fold 7 is easier to carry around as a “normal” device. Since both models feature Snapdragon 8 Elite, you’re getting a similar flagship level performance on these devices.

Use Case & Features

TriFold really shines if you treat your phone like a mini-tablet or pocket-PC. With its large screen, you can run multiple apps in parallel, use built-in DeX for a desktop-style experience without an external monitor, or split the display for work and entertainment. But it isn’t perfect. According to early reports, TriFold doesn’t offer “Flex Mode”, which is a staple for Fold/Split-format foldables that lets certain apps adjust UI dynamically when partially folded. This means some flexibility and convenience in casual folds are lost.

Downsides: Price, Durability & Practicality

The TriFold carries a premium price and complexity. Both hinges, three display panels, and extra weight add complexity in handling and increase the risk of damage. Some early impressions have also flagged concerns about the inner screen’s fragility under repeated folds. Also, while the large screen is enticing, it might be overkill if you rarely need tablet-level tasks. For many users, a lighter foldable or even a slab phone + tablet might still be more practical and cost-effective.

Big-ticket smartphone orders always come with a bit of excitement — and a bit of anxiety — but one Bengaluru buyer’s Diwali week surprise turned into something far stranger than anyone could have expected. What was supposed to be a brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 ended up being… a piece of floor tile. And the only reason the buyer isn’t out $2,000 today is because he recorded the unboxing from start to finish.

The incident came to light through NDTV journalist Deepak Bopanna, who shared details of the incident on X. According to the report, the customer, an engineer based in Bengaluru, had ordered the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and paid the full amount upfront via credit card. The Amazon parcel arrived with factory-style packaging intact. Even the Fold 7’s retail box appeared completely sealed.

But when he tore open the box — all while filming the unboxing — the phone-shaped package revealed nothing but a tile placed where the $2,000 smartphone should have been.

The footage turned out to be crucial. With an unboxing video as evidence, Amazon quickly issued a full refund and initiated a detailed investigation into the supply chain to figure out where the scam occurred. The buyer also filed a complaint with local police, who have begun their own probe into the matter.

It’s a rare case, but not unheard of — and it highlights the growing trend of high-value delivery scams, where fake or swapped products are slipped into authentic-looking packaging. Had the customer not recorded the unboxing, resolving the issue could have taken weeks or even months, with no guarantee of reimbursement.

The takeaway is simple: whenever you’re accepting an expensive delivery — whether it’s a phone, laptop, or luxury item — record the unboxing from the moment you receive the parcel.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 has just gone through a detailed teardown courtesy of JerryRigEverything’s Zack Nelson, and it’s given us a closer look at what $2000 gets you inside one of the most premium foldables on the market. The video confirms Samsung’s use of a titanium back plate under the display while also sparking debate over the phone’s thermal design. To test Samsung’s claims, Nelson used a gas torch to heat up the back plate to around 1800°C.

It resulted in a rainbow-like oxidation pattern, while the flexible mesh structure lit up with bright white sparks—both clear indicators of the metal Samsung is claiming to be using. These touches add strength and flexibility to Samsung’s foldable design. Not to mention, this is the first time the creator has successfully removed the inner folding screen while still functioning.

The different layers of the display are still fragile, which is why hard and sharp objects should still be kept away from the inner display.

Notably, this isn’t the first time Samsung has reinforced its foldables with extra support above the aluminum chassis. From the Z Fold 3 through the Z Fold 6, the company used Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). That material is lighter than titanium, but teardown videos show it was also a bit thicker, which may explain Samsung’s decision to switch.

Still, not everything in the Fold 7 impressed. Nelson highlighted a clear air gap between the aluminum mid-frame and the graphite cooling pad over the processor. Samsung did apply some thermal paste—enough for him to jokingly draw a smiley face—but the overall setup raises doubts about how well the phone can transfer heat from the chips. More surprising is that the aluminum chassis under the PCB doesn’t even include a vapor chamber, a feature that’s become standard on even mid-range phones costing a fraction of the price.

Overall, the teardown shows the Z Fold 7 as a mix of premium materials, improved repairability, and lingering concerns around cooling. With Samsung already teasing its first tri-fold, it’ll be interesting to see what that device hides inside.

There are a bunch of really good alternatives from Google, Honor, and Oppo, while even Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold 6 from last year is still relevant if you want something a little cheaper.  So here’s a breakdown of the best Galaxy Z Fold 7 alternatives you can buy in 2025.

Galaxy Z Fold 6

It might sound obvious, but the first real alternative to the Fold 7 is actually Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold 6. You can still get last year’s model through carriers and retailers for a couple of hundred dollars less. 

For the price, you’ll get a 7.6-inch AMOLED inner display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, and a 4400mAh battery. Its design is slightly chunkier at 239g, and the camera’s top out at 50 megapixels instead of 200, but for most people, these differences shouldn’t be deal-breakers.

If you’re not chasing the absolute best specs, the Fold 6 offers nearly the same multitasking chops and durability as the Fold 7. Plus, you still get support for the S-Pen that Samsung ditched on its successor. The Fold 6 is also immune to 7 years of software updates. 

Honor Magic V5

It shouldn’t come as a surprise if we say that Honor is building some of the most polished foldables out there. The Magic V5 is perhaps the strongest Galaxy Z Fold 7 rival right now.

It features a “Super Armored” inner screen rated at Mohs level 4, which should hold up better against scratches than Samsung’s softer plastic layer. The Magic V5 also has a brighter screen that can reach  5,000 nits peak brightness. 

On the camera front, the foldable gets a 50MP main, 64MP periscope telephoto with 3x zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide. 

Depending on the region, you also get either a 5820mAh or a 6100mAh cell, which is far bigger than Samsung’s 4400mAh pack. That means the Magic V5 should last noticeably longer than Samsung’s alternative. 

There are trade-offs, though. Honor’s MagicOS 9 skin isn’t as clean or polished as Samsung’s One UI, and the foldable is not available as widely as the Fold 7. But if you can get your hands on one, this is the foldable for people who want all-day battery life without compromise.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold

Google’s third-generation foldable, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, is here to do what Pixels do best: software magic.

At first glance, it matches the Z Fold 7 in size, an 8-inch foldable display with a 6.4-inch cover screen. But it’s heavier, tipping the scales at 258 g.

Its rear camera setup includes a 48MP main, 10.8MP 5x telephoto, and 10.5MP ultrawide. They may not sound as leading as Samsung’s 200MP shooter, but Google’s Ultra-HDR, Pixel Shift, and AI-assisted zoom make them feel flagship-level. 

The foldable also has a few other camera tricks like “Best Take” and “Zoom Enhance”. The Pixel 10 Pro Fold also brings unique extras like satellite SOS, a 5,015 mAh battery with bypass charging, and Qi2 wireless charging. Its Mohs level 5-rated inner display is tougher than Samsung’s, too.

Most importantly, the Pixel experience on a foldable feels like Android the way Google intended: fluid multitasking, smart split-screen, and seamless integration with AI features. If you care about software over hardware flex, this is the one.

Oppo Find N5

Oppo’s Find N5 is one of the most feature-rich foldables around, but it’s not widely available. It’s sold in China, parts of Southeast Asia, and Mexico, but there’s no US or European launch. If you can import one, though, it’s seriously impressive.

The Find N5 has one of the biggest batteries in a foldable (5,600 mAh) with 80W wired charging and 50W wireless. That’s way beyond Samsung’s conservative charging speeds. Its displays are also calibrated for creators, with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR Vivid support, plus stylus compatibility on both the inner and outer screens.

The rear camera setup on the Find N5 includes a 50MP main, 50MP telephoto, and 8MP ultrawide. The setup might not feel (or sound) as good as Samsung’s, but the company has partnered with Hasselblad for extra camera optimization. 

The hinge and build feel also premium as Oppo uses titanium alloy in the frame. There’s even satellite connectivity on some models.

The real downside of this device is its limited availability, and ColorOS might not be everyone’s favorite skin. Still, for people who want a stylus-ready foldable with pro-level media chops, the Find N5 is a hidden gem.

iFixit gave the Galaxy Z Fold7 a repairability score of just 3 out of 10. For starters, the combination of a slim design and strong adhesive makes it difficult to open the outer display or back panel for repairs. To help users get the most out of the device, Samsung recommends using it within a temperature range of 0°C to 35°C (32°F to 95°F) — the sweet spot where the display can perform at its best.

The update is expected to expand soon to other markets, including the US, Canada, and Europe.

What’s more telling is what this update doesn’t include. According to SamMobile’s hands-on, One UI 8 (based on Android 16) already feels polished, with smooth animations and AI-assisted multitasking — suggesting Samsung isn’t rushing to fix major bugs before launch.

According to a SamMobile report, breaking the flexible displays of either the Galaxy Z Fold 7 or Galaxy Z Flip 7 could set you back by hundreds of Dollars. The publication managed to get its hands on the repair cost list from a European supplier. If you break the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s main display, fixing it will cost you 761 Euros, or roughly about 884 US Dollars.

This makes it even more expensive than the Nothing Phone (3), which was a newly announced flagship phone. For this much money, you can even buy Samsung’s Galaxy S25, a compact flagship model. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s cover display is more affordable, with repairs costing 525 Euros (about 610 US Dollars).

It is worth noting that this price is just for the component parts and does not include labor costs. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s primary flexible display repairs cost 342 Euros (roughly 398 US Dollars), while the new FlexWindow cover display costs 207 Euros (roughly 241 US Dollars). Even swapping the smaller cover screen isn’t cheap at €525 (roughly $611). For the Galaxy Z Flip7, the foldable panel is priced at €342 ($400), while the 4.1-inch FlexWindow cover display costs €207 ($240). These prices don’t include labor charges for third-party repairs — meaning the final bill could be even higher.

Samsung’s regular warranty doesn’t cover accidental damage, which makes Samsung Care+ a tempting option. The Z Fold7’s Care+ plan costs $13 per month or $259 annually, while the Z Flip7’s plan is $10 per month or $169 per year. Both offer unlimited same-day repairs for screens or back glass with a $29 deductible per visit.

While Samsung touts durability upgrades, accidental drops and mishaps remain a real risk. Considering how quickly smartphones depreciate, paying out of pocket for screen repairs might even cost more than replacing the device.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 may look sleeker than last year’s model, but under the hood, it sticks to familiar specs — a 4,400mAh battery and 25W charging, just like the Galaxy Z Fold6. So, how does it actually perform when plugged in? A recent charging test puts both foldables head-to-head, and the results offer some interesting insights.

Tech YouTuber Ben from Lover of Tech put the Z Fold7, Z Fold6, and Galaxy S25 Ultra through a side-by-side charging test, using official Samsung chargers — 25W for the Folds and 45W for the Ultra. To keep things fair, all devices had batteries rated at 100% health. The test, shared on July 17, shows the Z Fold7 consistently edging ahead of its predecessor, though by small margins.

At the 15- and 30-minute marks, both Fold models were neck and neck — 29% and 54% respectively. But after 45 minutes, the Z Fold7 pulled slightly ahead at 74%, compared to the Fold6’s 70%, and maintained that lead through the end. The Fold7 reached 100% in 1 hour 26 minutes, finishing just four minutes faster than the Fold6.

But more notably, the Z Fold7 also ran cooler during charging, averaging around 2°C lower than the Fold6. This cooler performance likely comes down to Samsung’s improved heat management — possibly aided by the Fold7’s slimmer design and updated thermal system. While this lower temperature might seem like a minor upgrade, it can have a meaningful impact on long-term battery health.

As for the Galaxy S25 Ultra, with its larger 5,000mAh battery, took 1 hour 17 minutes to fully charge.

While Samsung hasn’t changed the charging hardware, subtle software tweaks — possibly tied to One UI 8 — seem to have given the Z Fold7 a slight edge over the Fold6 in both speed and temperature.

Are these few minutes’ difference and cooler operation enough to justify its $1,999 price tag? That’s up to buyers. But it’s clear Samsung’s latest foldable brings more to the table than just a design refresh.

This year, Samsung has made significant upgrades to its foldables rather than incremental changes like it did last year with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The newly announced Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a big step forward from its predecessor and easily one of the best book-style foldable phones you can buy right now. Here are the four biggest upgrades that make it a great choice.

1. Lighter, slimmer, and more durable

The Galaxy Z Fold 7, when folded, is only 8.9mm thick, that’s around 26% slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6’s 12.1mm (folded).  When unfolded, it’s just 4.2mm thick —  again, a 25% reduction, which is a big thing for foldables.

Not only slimmer, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is also lighter at 215g (versus Fold 6’s 239g). It’s lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, too. The Fold 7 is also more durable, thanks to an advanced Armor Aluminium frame, which is about 10% stronger and harder than Fold 6’s Armor Aluminium frame. It uses a restructed hinge branded Armor FlexHinge, which is both 23% thinner and 43% lighter. The front screen is now more powerful with Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2 protection.

2. Bigger and better screens

The primary screen has gone up from 7.6 inches to 8 inches, making it more usable than ever before. The cover screen now measures 6.62 inches, up from 6.3 inches. This puts Fold 7 in a much competitive spot against its Chinese rivals, such as Oppo Find N5 and Honor Magic V5, which have been eating up Samsung’s dominance in the foldable phone market.

Samsung has implemented a titanium plate layer in the main display, making it thinner, lighter, and stronger. The display specifications remain unchanged, except for a slight increase in resolution. The cover display now uses a more standard 21:9 aspect ratio, enhancing typing and one-handed experience. This also improves the visual experience as most apps and media content are optimized for this aspect ratio.

3. A more powerful chipset

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It’s the most powerful chipset for Android devices, promising to be about 45% faster and more power-efficient than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which powers the Fold 6. This means you’ll have a significantly better experience with resource-intensive tasks, such as gaming, multitasking, or video editing, on the newer book-style foldable, while also enjoying excellent battery efficiency.

4. Impressive camera upgrades

The Fold 7 comes with a significantly better camera setup. It uses a 200MP main camera — the same one used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. It’s paired with a 12MP ultrawide camera and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Samsung has skipped the under-display camera this time and opted for a punch-hole style with a 10MP resolution. There’s also a 10MP sensor for the cover display. All of its cameras can record up to 4K videos, while the main camera can record up to 8K videos.

The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, features a 50MP primary camera, paired with two 10MP sensors (ultrawide and telephoto). It also has a 10MP camera on the cover display, but only a 4MP camera (under the display) on the inner display, which doesn’t add much value to the overall camera setup.

Samsung’s latest book-style foldable — the Galaxy Z Fold7 — launched on July 9 for a starting price of $1,999 or ₹174999.00. To recall, the Fold6 and Flip6 started from $1,899. But the Samsung boss recently surprised, saying the brand is taking a hit on profit to keep the prices in check.

It’s a calculated risk. Samsung remains the leader in the foldable segment with a 45% market share, though that’s down from 54% in 2024, based on Canalys data. With competition heating up — particularly from Chinese brands like Huawei and Honor — and with Z Flip6 sales reportedly down 21% compared to its predecessor, a price hike could have hurt Samsung’s competitive edge even further.

The introduction of the Z Flip7 FE at $899 also plays into this strategy. Meanwhile, Samsung’s deep integration of Galaxy AI — built on Google’s Gemini and One UI 8 — continues to focus on smarter productivity and editing features, as the company pushes to make foldables a mainstream choice.

Vivo X Fold 5 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Design & Display

With the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung finally made major upgrades to the design. It is finally matching the foldables from Chinese competitors with a slim 4.2mm body when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded. This makes it even slimmer than the Vivo X Fold 5’s 9.2mm body (4.3mm unfolded). While this is a minor difference, the Galaxy Z Fold series doesn’t fall behind in this regard. So your decision here is based on personal preference. Notably, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 offers an IP48 rating for water and dust resistance, while the Vivo X Fold 7 brings an IP5X and IPX8 rating, which is slightly better.

On the display side, the Vivo X Fold 5 brings an 8.03-inch foldable QHD+ AMOLED inner screen and a 6.53-inch 1.5K AMOLED outer display. Both panels offer a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate, 4500 nits of peak brightness, and Dolby Vision. Meanwhile, Samsung offers a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, FHD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 for protection, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The primary screen is an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a QXGA+ resolution (2184 x 1968) and 120Hz refresh rate. So once again, you’re getting gorgeous displays on both models.

Performance

Vivo packs the X Fold 5 with last year’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC that offers high performance capable of handling gaming and everyday tasks with ease. But Samsung’s foldable flagship goes above and beyond with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. This custom version of the 8 Elite is more powerful, meaning, you’re getting the best Android chip on the market. Apart from a noticeable improvement in raw performance and graphics computing, this chip is also more power efficient. So if you want the best money has to offer, Samsung clearly has the edge here.

Camera

Vivo swings back in the photography department with its Zeiss camera lens and tuning on the X Fold 5. The 50MP (Main, Sony IMX921) + 50MP (Ultra Wide, Samsung JN5) + 50MP (telephoto, Sony IMX882, 3x) is a flagship grade camera setup that is also found on the Vivo X200. While Samsung did make an upgrade in the camera setup by bringing the S25 Ultra’s 200MP primary sensor, the rest of the kit (12MP ultra wide + 10MP telephoto) lags behind.

The main shooter is a true flagship camera, but the overall versatility with Zeiss modes and the other two sensors are just superior in my opinion. For selfies and video calls, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has 10MP cameras while the X Fold 5 has 20MP cameras.

Battery & Charging

Another area that Vivo dominates is in the battery and charging department. Thanks to its massive 6,000mAh cell, you can expect a much better battery life on the Vivo X Fold 5 compared to the Z Fold 7’s 4,400mAh battery. Samsung still offers the embarrassingly slow 25W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging speeds on its ultra premium phone, while Vivo offers a more respectable 80W wired and 40W wireless fast charging.

Pricing and Verdict

The Vivo X Fold 5 only arrives in a single 16GB + 512GB variant in India that costs 149,999 INR. On the other hand, the 12GB + 256GB base variant of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 costs 174,999 INR. The higher end 512GB model with 12GB RAM costs 186,999 INR. So Vivo is undercutting the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the global market.

Samsung has made great improvements in its latest foldable flagship, but the Vivo X Fold 5 is a better rounded foldable overall. But once you factor in aspects like the software, Samsung definitely has an edge. But for that much extra money, it’s still hard to recommend the Z Fold 7 to first-time buyers of a foldable phone or those outside of Samsung’s ecosystem.

Camera Enhancements

Previous iterations of the Galaxy Z Fold series had capable cameras, but these were still lacklustre compared to other ultra premium foldable and other flagships. However, the South Korean tech giant brings the S25 Ultra’s main 200MP camera to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

While the ultra wide angle lens and telephoto shooter have yet to receive the same love, the updated primary camera makes the device a lot better for photography as a whole. With the Z Fold 7, Samsung finally ditches the under-display camera on the main foldable screen with the same 10MP punch hole selfie camera on both the external and main display.

Improved Performance & Efficiency

Unfortunately, only the Galaxy Z Flip 7 got a bump in battery capacity this year. So the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is still stuck with a 4,400mAh cell. But thanks to Qualcomm’s powerful and efficient Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, Samsung is promising all-day use (official claims state 24 hours of video playback). This chip is also one of the most powerful processor that power Android flagships in the market, so you can expect top tier performance for regular use and intense tasks like mobile gaming.

Verdict

Samsung has built a robust ecosystem of its products and offers one of the best Android experiences with its One UI. The handy software features, Galaxy AI, customizability and a lot more have made the brand popular across the globe. So for those looking to remain in Samsung’s ecosystem, this is a great pick. There are plenty of Chinese competitors, but these aren’t as widely available either. With the Z Fold 7’s various improvements, it at least competes on a similar playing field now. I’d only suggest skipping the Z Fold 7 if you already have the Z Fold 6 or another recent foldable since the upgrades won’t feel substantial over a single generation.

Luxury brand Caviar has launched a new collection based on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. The new “Cosmic Cabubu” lineup transforms the latest Samsung foldables into high-end collectible art pieces, featuring 24K gold, meteorite fragments, natural diamonds, and intricate enamel detailing. Prices start at $8,910 and go up to $10,340, making this the most expensive Samsung-based series Caviar has ever created.

The collection draws inspiration from Labubu, a cult pop character created by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. Labubu gained global popularity in 2025, with appearances on social media by celebrities such as Rihanna and Dua Lipa. Caviar adapted the character into its own version called Cabubu and reimagined it as a cosmic traveler. The company has dedicated each phone in the series to a different planet, Venus and Mars, representing beauty and power respectively.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 “Cabubu on Mars” features a titanium body finished with Swiss PVD coating. The back showcases a 3D figure of Zimomo, the male version of Cabubu, detailed with 24K gold and jewelry-grade enamel. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is finally official, bringing refined hardware, improved durability, and better displays. However, many fans were quick to notice that the battery capacity remains nearly identical to its predecessor despite the advancements in battery technology. Now, Samsung has addressed the reason behind this decision.

Here’s why Samsung didn’t upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s battery

The South Korean tech giant shared a statement with SamMobile. They had reached out to Samsung to ask why only the Galaxy Z Flip 7 received a battery upgrade (from 4,000mAh to 4,300mAh). Samsung’s flagship Galaxy Z Fold series hasn’t seen a battery upgrade since the Galaxy Z Fold 3 from back in 2021. The brand addressed this by claiming that only Galaxy Z Flip users were asking for a bugger battery.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold fans had different demands. They prioritized different features like an improved camera system, a slimmer and lighter design, and a wider cover screen. So we can assume that making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 thinner was Samsung’s primary focus this year, which is why there was no notable battery change. While this is still behind Chinese competitors with even thinner designs and massive batteries, Samsung is at least catching up in the design department.

The company would have to start using the newer silicon carbon anode batteries to pack higher density cells without increasing the thickness of their smartphones. So it remains to be seen when this shift actually happens, the next-gen flagships like the Galaxy S26 lineup could finally employ this technology. But details on that are still scarce, so take this with a grain of salt for now.

But with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has finally gone bold again. This is not just another annual refresh. It’s a design rethink, a spec overhaul, and a full-on reintroduction of the Fold series into the flagship spotlight.

The Fold That Finally Feels Complete

The most obvious improvement is the form factor. The Z Fold 7 is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest Fold ever, measuring just 4.2mm when open and 8.9mm folded, and weighing 215g, even lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra. That difference is tangible. The Fold 7 no longer feels like two phones sandwiched together. It feels like one coherent device.

And it’s not just about being lighter. The cover screen has grown to 6.5 inches with a taller 21:9 aspect ratio, addressing long-standing complaints about the Fold series’ narrow outer display. The main display is now a full 8 inches, 11% larger than before, and yes, both displays peak at a stunning 2600 nits, matching the Fold 6 but offering better usability in bright environments.

Crucially, the inside under-display camera (UDC) is gone. That hazy 4MP compromise has been replaced by a clean 10MP shooter. It’s still not flagship-quality, but at least it doesn’t get in the way.

Big Camera Moves

Speaking of cameras, Samsung finally gave the Fold the upgrade it deserved. The Fold 7 swaps the long-running 50MP sensor for a massive 200MP camera, the same one that impressed on the S24 Ultra. It still pairs with a 12MP ultra-wide and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens, but image quality, especially detail in well-lit scenes, takes a meaningful step forward.

If you were waiting for a Fold that could double as a true flagship camera phone, this is it.

More Power, More AI, Less Compromise

The Fold 7 is also the first Samsung phone to use Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, replacing the Gen 3 for Galaxy found in the Fold 6. It’s built on a more efficient 3nm node and delivers slightly higher peak CPU and GPU speeds, but it’s what Samsung’s doing with that power that stands out.

One UI 8 (based on Android 16) adds a slate of AI features built for big screens. You get enhanced photo editing with “Suggest Erases,” AI-powered background noise removal in videos, multimodal Gemini Live for contextual queries, and tools like “Drag & Drop” AI content generation.

For creative professionals, Drawing Assist and Writing Assist actually make good use of the expansive screen real estate, even without the S Pen, which is gone, by the way, in favor of a thinner chassis.

Built to Last, Actually

Durability has always been the Fold’s Achilles heel, but Samsung has clearly learned from earlier iterations. The Z Fold 7 introduces Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the cover screen, a new material with embedded crystals for better crack resistance, and keeps Victus 2 on the back.

The hinge is now slimmer and sturdier thanks to a redesigned multi-rail structure, and the display adds a titanium plate and 50% thicker Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG). The crease has also been refined; it’s shallower and less noticeable, both visually and to the touch, thanks to a more relaxed folding arc. The phone still has an IP48 rating, a notable improvement over the IPX8 of the Fold 5.

That combination makes this the most robust Fold yet, with fewer trade-offs than ever before.

What’s Not New

Some things haven’t changed. The 4400mAh battery, 25W wired charging, and 15W wireless charging setup remains unchanged since the Fold 4. That’s fine, but it’s becoming a little outdated in a world of 45W+ fast charging and 5000mAh+ foldables.

And while Samsung made huge strides with AI and design, multitasking hasn’t gotten a dramatic overhaul; the taskbar and split-screen features are refined but not radically different from last year.

Pricing and Verdict

The Fold 7 starts at $1999.99, keeping in line with Samsung’s ultra-premium pricing strategy. That makes it pricier than the Fold 6 at launch, which started at $1899. But you’re getting a reworked design, upgraded internals, significantly better cameras, and a smarter software experience. It’s the first Fold in years that actually feels like a new generation, not just a polished rerun.

Compared to the Fold 5 and Fold 6, the Fold 7 is thinner, lighter, faster, smarter, and more camera-capable. In short, it’s the best Fold Samsung has ever made. The only real question now is whether that’s enough to make foldables mainstream, or if the category will remain a premium niche chasing perfection.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Honor Magic V5 are part of a new wave of foldables that push the boundaries of how thin, light, and powerful a foldable phone can be. 

Both arrive with top-tier specs, large folding displays, and premium builds, but each takes a slightly different approach to the foldable concept. The differences may seem minor at first glance, but for anyone looking to spend nearly $2,000 on a phone, those small details matter.

Let’s break it down.

Design and Build

Samsung’s Z Fold 7 takes its usual book-style design and slims it down even further. Folded, it’s just 8.9mm thick; impressively close to the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 8.2mm. 

Unfolded, the Fold 7 is only 4.2mm, making it the thinnest foldable Samsung has ever made. Also, the phone is incredibly light at 215 grams. There’s an aluminum frame, Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 2 on the front and back, and a flexible interior screen protected by a new titanium plate layer.

Honor’s Magic V5 goes even slimmer, at least on paper. The Ivory White model of the foldable is just 8.8mm when folded and 4.1mm unfolded. This is technically slimmer than Samsung’s Fold 7. However, other color variants of the V5 are slightly thicker at 9.0mm. At 217g or 222g, depending on finish, it’s also a touch heavier.

Both phones feel light for their size and come with side-mounted fingerprint sensors, IP ratings for water and dust resistance (IP48 for Samsung, IP58/IP59 for Honor), and stylus support. However, Samsung has dropped S Pen compatibility due to space constraints in its thinner frame.

Displays

Samsung has upgraded the cover screen to 6.5 inches with a 21:9 aspect ratio, making it look and feel more like a traditional smartphone when folded. The inner display is now a full 8 inches, matching the iPad mini in size. Both screens are AMOLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10+ support.

Honor’s Magic V5 flaunts a 6.43-inch cover display and a 7.95-inch inner screen. Both are LTPO OLEDs with 120Hz refresh rates and have a much brighter peak brightness at 5000 nits, compared to Samsung’s 2600 nits.

The Fold 7 also has a new 10MP ultrawide camera on the main screen. It comes in place of the under-display pixel cluster seen on older models. On the flip side, the crease on the Z Fold 7 is still visible in certain lighting. Honor’s crease is no less noticeable, but its “Super Armored” inner screen may offer better scratch resistance.

Cameras

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 finally gets the flagship camera treatment. It features a 200MP main camera, the same sensor as the S25 Ultra. It’s joined by a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens. Likewise, both the inner and outer screen has 10MP cameras. The camera setup supports 8K video and up to 960fps slow motion.

Honor doesn’t chase megapixel numbers, but instead offers a more balanced setup. The V5 has a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide, and a 64MP periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. It also supports 4K video and includes laser autofocus.

Despite Samsung’s 200MP sensor, the Z Fold 7 lacks a periscope lens, likely due to the device’s thin profile. That limits optical zoom. Honor, on the other hand, manages to include one, giving it a slight edge in versatility.

Performance and Software

Both phones are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, with Honor using the AB variant and Samsung the AC variant. The differences between the two chips are minimal, but Samsung’s version may be slightly better optimized for heat and performance. Both use the same Adreno 830 GPU.

Samsung ships the Z Fold 7 with Android 16 and promises seven years of software support. It runs One UI 8, which integrates deeply with Google’s Gemini AI. That includes features like Gemini Live and an improved Circle to Search that works in games and multitasking.

Honor ships the V5 with Android 15 under MagicOS 9. It also includes Circle to Search but doesn’t yet match Samsung’s AI integration or long-term software guarantees.

Battery and Charging

Despite its slim body, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 houses a 4,400mAh battery. Samsung claims it can deliver 24 hours of video playback. Charging speeds are relatively modest: 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse.

Honor’s Magic V5 outpaces it with a much larger 5,820mAh battery. It supports 66W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wired charging. That’s a clear step up, especially for power users.

Pricing and Availability

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 starts at $1,999.99 in the US and £1,799 in the UK. It’s available in three standard colors—Blue Shadow, Silver Shadow, Jet Black—and one exclusive Mint color from Samsung’s online store.

Honor hasn’t confirmed pricing for global markets yet, but based on Chinese pricing and past models, it’s likely to undercut Samsung by a few hundred dollars. It will launch globally in Black, Dawn Gold, Reddish Brown, and Ivory White. 

Final Thoughts

Both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Honor Magic V5 are among the best foldable phones you can buy in 2025. This year, Samsung has made its most significant update yet to its foldable lineup since its introduction. Meanwhile, Honor focuses on offering better hardware overall, with a larger battery and a periscope lens.

If you’re already in the Samsung ecosystem or want the longest Android support window available, the Z Fold 7 makes more sense. But if you’re looking for better battery life, brighter screens, and a slightly lower price, the Honor Magic V5 is hard to ignore.
