<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a> is reportedly preparing to wind down one of its more experimental foldables just months after introducing it. The company’s first tri-fold device, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-tri-fold/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</a>, is expected to be discontinued following a final round of restocks in its home market of South Korea.</p>

<p>To be honest, the TriFold was never positioned as a mainstream device. Samsung wanted to test whether such a device could gain traction, which explains why it was limited to just a few markets.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="553" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1024x553.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold images" class="wp-image-718264" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1024x553.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-300x162.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-768x415.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1536x829.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-696x376.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1068x577.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-778x420.png 778w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images.png 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>According to reports, Samsung will restock one last batch of the Galaxy Z TriFold before discontinuing it. We haven’t heard from leaks or rumors about any immediate plans for a follow-up model either.</p>

<h2><strong>What the Galaxy Z TriFold offers</strong></h2>

<p>The Galaxy Z TriFold uses a G-shaped folding mechanism, unlike the S-shaped mechanism of the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-xts/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei Mate XTs</a>. Samsung’s mechanism folds the display inward on both sides, protecting the inner display while offering a larger usable screen when fully opened.</p>

<p>It has a 6.5-inch external display for regular phone use and a much larger 10-inch internal screen that turns the device into something closer to a tablet when unfolded.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="580" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1024x580.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold how is it different" class="wp-image-717654" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1024x580.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-300x170.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-768x435.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1536x870.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-696x394.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1068x605.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-741x420.jpg 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different.jpg 1610w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>Under the hood, the phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite platform and supports dual SIM functionality. It also packs a 5600mAh battery. Despite that complexity, Samsung has managed to keep the weight at 309 grams.</p>

<p>The physical design is arguably the most impressive part. The device measures just 4.2mm thick when unfolded and 12.9mm when folded, which is thin considering the multiple layers of folding components inside.</p>

<p>Even so, the TriFold’s use cases were fairly narrow. You either used it fully opened for a large-screen experience or relied on the outer display when closed. There wasn’t much middle ground, which may have limited its appeal beyond enthusiasts and early adopters.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="568" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-1024x568.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-729464" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-1024x568.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-300x166.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-768x426.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-1536x852.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-696x385.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-1068x592.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909-758x420.png 758w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-122909.png 1919w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>That’s essentially what YouTuber Scotty Allen attempted in his latest project. Allen, best known for the Strange Parts channel and its ambitious repair experiments, decided to see what would happen if he replaced the battery inside <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/brand/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s tri-fold phone with a high-energy-density silicon-carbon battery pack taken from a rival device.</p>

<p>Samsung&#8217;s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-tri-fold/">Galaxy Z TriFold</a> ships with a three-cell battery pack with a total capacity of 5,600mAh. <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/03/01/honor-magic-v6-launched/">Honor&#8217;s latest book-style foldable</a>, in comparison, manages a battery capacity of around 6,660mAh. Allen’s idea was simple in theory: take those high-density battery cells and retrofit them into Samsung’s device.</p>

<p>In practice, it turned into a far more complicated job. The Honor Magic V6&#8217;s battery cells are slightly larger than the spaces available inside the TriFold, so Allen had to physically modify the phone to make them fit. That meant CNC-milling parts of the chassis, grinding down hinge components, and even removing the bottom speaker to free up room.</p>

<p>There was also the matter of battery electronics. Allen replaced Honor’s battery management system with Samsung’s to ensure the phone could properly recognize and manage the new cells.</p>

<p>The end result, at least on paper, was a 9,600mAh battery pack inside the TriFold. That’s about 71% more capacity than the original 5,600mAh configuration.</p>

<p>The modified phone actually powers on and runs. But the surgery didn’t come without consequences. A visible white line now runs across the display, likely the result of stress during disassembly or reassembly.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="569" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-1024x569.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-729467" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-1024x569.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-300x167.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-768x427.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-1536x854.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-696x387.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-1068x594.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646-755x420.png 755w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Screenshot-2026-03-04-130646.png 1919w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Still, the experiment makes an interesting point. Being able to squeeze significantly more capacity into the same physical volume could dramatically improve endurance for these devices.</p>

<p>Samsung, for its part, has been cautious about adopting the technology. After past battery incidents, the company has tended to prioritize reliability over aggressive capacity jumps.</p>

<p>But a recent report suggests Samsung <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2026/02/26/samsung-preparing-a-phone-with-silicon-carbon-battery-finally-joining-rivals/">may finally be preparing</a> to use silicon-carbon batteries in future Galaxy phones, possibly starting with slim devices like the rumored Galaxy S26 Edge.</p>

<p>The TriFold, which unfolds into a roughly 10-inch tablet-sized screen, launched in the US on January 30, 2026, at $2,899. Demand was reportedly strong at release. Now, multiple posts on Reddit are raising concerns about reliability.</p>

<p>In one case, a user said their device suddenly flashed green before the inner display went black. A restart brought it back temporarily, but the issue reportedly returned the next day. The owner <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyZTriFold/comments/1r68em0/trifold_inner_screen_blacked_out_and_unresponsive/">claimed</a> the phone had not been dropped or exposed to unusual stress.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-video"><video controls src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-dead-inner-display-case-1.mp4"></video></figure>

<p>Another user described ghost touch inputs appearing just days after purchase. By the following morning, the display allegedly turned completely white and stopped responding to touch. That same post mentioned a faint popping sound during folding, along with what looked like a small bubble under the display layer.</p>

<p>At this point, it’s difficult to determine whether these are isolated defects or early signs of a broader issue.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-video"><video controls src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-dead-inner-display-case-2.mp4"></video></figure>

<h2>The complexity of a Tri-Fold design</h2>

<p>Foldables have always carried additional durability challenges compared to traditional smartphones. A tri-fold design introduces even more moving parts and stress points than standard book-style foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series.</p>

<p>Flexible OLED panels, ultra-thin glass layers, adhesives, and hinge assemblies all need to work together under repeated bending. Even minor manufacturing variances can show up quickly once devices are in real-world use.</p>

<p>Samsung has made <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/24/galaxy-z-fold-7-shows-impressive-toughness-in-real-world-durability-test/">steady improvements</a> in hinge design and protective layers over the years, but entirely new form factors often reveal issues only after launch.</p>

<p>For now, the number of confirmed cases appears limited. Still, given the TriFold’s premium price and experimental design, even a few failures can attract attention.</p>

<p>It may take a few more weeks and more user data to determine whether these incidents are simply early-unit defects or something more systemic.</p>

<p>With two hinges and a screen that folds in three sections, Galaxy Z TriFold pushes <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s foldable design further than ever. But with that ambition comes a big question: how long will dual dual-hinge foldable actually last?</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="580" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1024x580.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold how is it different" class="wp-image-717654" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1024x580.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-300x170.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-768x435.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1536x870.jpg 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-696x394.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-1068x605.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different-741x420.jpg 741w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-how-is-it-different.jpg 1610w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>A South Korean YouTube channel, Omokgyo Electronics Shopping Mall, recently tried to find out. In a multi-day livestream, the team ran the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/02/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-launched-price-specifications/">Galaxy Z TriFold</a> through a relentless folding test, opening and closing the device around the clock to see where it would give in.</p>

<p>Samsung officially rates the phone for 200,000 folds, a figure meant to reflect years of regular use. The test, however, was anything but regular. Three hosts took turns continuously folding and unfolding the device with almost no breaks.</p>

<h2>Did it survive?</h2>

<p>Early warning signs appeared after 61,000 folds, when one hinge began making faint creaking noises. The second hinge followed at around 121,000 cycles. By roughly 144,000 folds, the hinges had lost much of their tension. The phone could still open, but it no longer stayed fully flat on its own.</p>

<p>Notably, the display itself never failed. Despite the stress placed on the hinges, the large foldable screen remained fully functional until the end of the test.</p>

<p>That final number falls short of Samsung’s stated durability rating, but the context matters. Non-stop mechanical folding isn’t how people use their phones, and the fold-counting sensors attached during the test may have affected hinge movement. In everyday use, the TriFold could still come much closer to Samsung’s claim.</p>

<p>For reference, Samsung rates the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/30/how-many-times-you-can-unfold-z-fold-7-depends-on-where-you-live/">up to 500,000 folds</a>, highlighting how much more demanding the tri-fold design is. As with any first-generation product, improvements are likely in future models.</p>

<p>For now, the test suggests potential buyers of the Galaxy Z TriFold should not worry about the durability and reliability of the device, though there’s still room for refinement as the form factor matures.</p>

<p>The Galaxy Z TriFold <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/02/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-launched-price-specifications/">launched</a> last month as Samsung’s boldest foldable yet, introducing a complex tri-folding screen that expands into a tablet-like canvas. Interest has been intense: the device reportedly sold out within minutes of becoming available, despite extremely limited stock. But that flexible inner screen comes with a downside if anything goes wrong.</p>

<p>According to a recent report, replacing the outer display will cost between KRW 137,000 and KRW 226,000 (roughly $90–$150), which is broadly in line with the Z Fold 7. The real shock comes from the inner tri-folding panel. Replacing that display could set owners back anywhere from KRW 1,657,500 to KRW 1,834,500 (about $1,120–$1,240), depending on the extent of the repair.</p>

<p>To put that into perspective, Samsung’s own <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-s25-ultra/">Galaxy S25 Ultra</a>—the company’s top-tier bar-style flagship—currently retails in South Korea for around KRW 1,673,100. In other words, repairing the TriFold’s main screen could cost as much as, or even more than, buying an entirely new S25 Ultra.</p>

<p>The report also notes that availability is extremely limited. Samsung is said to be stocking just 15 to 30 units per major store in South Korea, with only around 700 units available nationwide so far. Total sales are reportedly expected to reach between 2,500 and 5,000 units by early next year, suggesting this is very much a controlled, experimental release.</p>

<p>It’s worth stressing that these details come from an unverified blog report, so final pricing could change. Still, if accurate, they underline a familiar truth about foldables—especially bleeding-edge ones. The Galaxy Z TriFold may represent the future of smartphones, but repairing that future won’t come cheap.</p>

<p>The launch of <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/12/02/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-launched-price-specifications/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold </a>marks a major shake up in the foldable phones segment in years. While a tri-folding device isn&#8217;t new, the Galaxy Z TriFold brings the unique design to the mass market across the globe. It brings impressive specs and features despite its form factor, but does that make it a clear upgrade over the familiar<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7</a>? Here’s a deeper look at how these two different foldables stack up against each other.</p>

<h3>Display &amp; Form Factor: More Screen, More Compromises</h3>

<p>The biggest draw of the TriFold is its 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display that folds inward twice. This basically gives users a tablet sized experience in a pocketable form. When completely folded, the device has a 6.5-inch cover display, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the latter only offers an 8-inch main screen.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--1024x683.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold" class="wp-image-717441" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold--630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>While this is a smaller display compared to the Galaxy Z TriFold, the Z Fold 7 is the slimmest foldable phone in the market, and it is also no heavier than a typical premium smartphone. On the other hand, the Galaxy Z TriFold weighs a heavier 309 grams and measures 12.9mm thick as well. So the trade off is quite clear: the TriFold brings a true tablet experience with a 4:3 aspect ratio that is better suited for multitasking, media consumption, and other tasks, but that comes at the cost of a bulkier and heavier phone.</p>

<h3>Battery, Hardware &amp; Performance</h3>

<p>One of the biggest weaknesses of Samsung&#8217;s foldable phones was the battery life. Owing to the slim size and older battery Li-Po battery tech, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 houses a small 4,400mAh battery pack. Even the charging rate is mediocre, with 25W wired charging speeds and 15W wireless charging support.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1024x683.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7" class="wp-image-697081" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1024x683.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-300x200.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-768x512.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-696x464.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1068x712.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-630x420.png 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>On the other hand, TriFold is powered by a much larger 5600mAh three-cell battery. This larger phone also gets faster 45W wired fast charging and 15W wireless charging speeds. In other words, the TriFold is better equipped for heavier workloads like multitasking, creative apps, media editing, and even gaming. </p>

<p>The larger screen does consume more battery, and the second hinge adds another point of risk for the design. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is easier to carry and has been touted as one of the best foldable phones by many. Being lighter and relatively simpler, the Z Fold 7 is easier to carry around as a &#8220;normal&#8221; device. Since both models feature Snapdragon 8 Elite, you&#8217;re getting a similar flagship level performance on these devices.</p>

<h3>Use Case &amp; Features</h3>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="553" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1024x553.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold images" class="wp-image-718264" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1024x553.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-300x162.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-768x415.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1536x829.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-696x376.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-1068x577.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images-778x420.png 778w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-images.png 1600w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>TriFold really shines if you treat your phone like a mini-tablet or pocket-PC. With its large screen, you can run multiple apps in parallel, use built-in DeX for a desktop-style experience without an external monitor, or split the display for work and entertainment. But it isn’t perfect. According to early reports, TriFold doesn’t offer “Flex Mode”, which is a staple for Fold/Split-format foldables that lets certain apps adjust UI dynamically when partially folded. This means some flexibility and convenience in casual folds are lost.</p>

<h3>Downsides: Price, Durability &amp; Practicality</h3>

<p>The TriFold carries a premium price and complexity. Both hinges, three display panels, and extra weight add complexity in handling and increase the risk of damage. Some early impressions have also flagged concerns about the inner screen&#8217;s fragility under repeated folds. Also, while the large screen is enticing, it might be overkill if you rarely need tablet-level tasks. For many users, a lighter foldable or even a slab phone + tablet might still be more practical and cost-effective.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a>’s tri-fold phone is more closer as the days go by. It’s expected to launch as early as December first week. Ahead of the launch, a new leak from South Korea suggests that the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold could arrive with a lower-than-expected price tag.</p>

<p>According to information shared by the Korean blogger yeux1122, Samsung is considering a starting price of around 3.6 million won, roughly $2,447, in its home market. That’s notably lower than earlier estimates that suggest a starting price of<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/13/samsungs-tri-fold-tipped-to-launch-next-month-with-5600mah-battery-and-a-3000-price-tag/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> around $3000</a>.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" /></figure></div>

<p>It also puts Samsung in direct pricing competition with <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/04/huaweis-mate-xts-is-the-only-tri-fold-phone-you-can-actually-buy-in-2025/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Huawei’s Mate XTs</a>, currently the only commercially available trifold device. Huawei sells the XTs for roughly $2,520 after dropping the price from the first-gen model.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Expected specifications</strong></h2>

<p>As a tri-fold, it&#8217;s obvious that the device uses two hinges. One of the hinges is expected to have a tighter bend so the displays can stack neatly when folded in.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Galaxy Z Trifold is also expected to feature a G-shaped inward-folding design to protect the sensitive inner OLED panel. This method doesn’t expose the main screen, while Huawei uses a Z-format mechanism, revealing the bending edge of the panel outside. </p>

<p>Once opened, the TriFold spreads into a 10-inch OLED workspace with a 6.5-inch outer screen for normal phone use. The bezels reportedly remain thicker than most recent flagships, but the rest of the hardware is a 2025 flagship.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It will have a 200-megapixel main camera with up to 100x zoom, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto, and a titanium frame.</p>

<p>Inside, Samsung is said to be using three batteries, possibly silicon-carbon cells. And this will power the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite series chipset for top-tier performance.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s long-awaited tri-fold is finally shaping up. Reliable leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has confirmed the official name — Galaxy Z TriFold — along with some key specs such as screen size, battery capacity, and thickness.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-1024x683.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715138" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-696x464.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-1068x712.jpg 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-630x420.jpg 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Galaxy-Z-TriFold.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Samsung is reportedly sticking with the Z-series branding, keeping the TriFold tied to its foldable heritage rather than spinning it off into a new “Galaxy G Fold” category.</p>

<p>According to the tipster, the TriFold will run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. While the leak didn&#8217;t mention a specific chipset and there has been some confusion between the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/27/snapdragon-8-elite-gen-5-vs-snapdragon-8-elite-benchmarks-and-specs/">Snapdragon 8 Elite and 8 Elite Gen 5</a>, the latter seems more likely given the larger display, focus on multitasking, and a higher price tag than the upcoming Z Fold8, which is also expected to use the 8 Elite Gen 5.</p>

<p>The Z TriFold is also rumored to pack a 200MP main camera, similar to the Fold7. The rated battery capacity, according to this leak, is 5,437mAh. While this number is lower than a <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/11/13/samsungs-tri-fold-tipped-to-launch-next-month-with-5600mah-battery-and-a-3000-price-tag/">recently leaked spec sheet</a> listing 5,600mAh, that figure likely refers to the typical capacity. For those unfamiliar, the rated capacity is a minimum performance guarantee — ensuring the battery will always meet or exceed that number — while typical capacity represents the more common, slightly higher value seen in real-world use.</p>

<p>The cover display is said to measure 6.5 inches with 2,600 nits of peak brightness, while the main 10-inch AMOLED panel inside reportedly hits 1,600 nits. The device is expected to measure between 3.9mm and 4.2mm thick when unfolded. For comparison, Huawei&#8217;s Mate XT Ultimate ranges between 3.6mm and 4.8mm.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="453" height="265" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot-2025-11-14-030119-1.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715135" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot-2025-11-14-030119-1.png 453w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Screenshot-2025-11-14-030119-1-300x175.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 453px) 100vw, 453px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to previous leaks, Samsung is planning a limited launch, with 20,000 to 30,000 units heading to Korea and select Asian markets first. No word yet on a global release.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s foldable lineup might be about to get a third fold — and a serious price bump. The long-rumored Galaxy Z TriFold is reportedly set to launch on December 5, bringing a massive 10-inch display, a beefier 5,600mAh battery, and a jaw-dropping $3,000 price tag. That makes it nearly twice as expensive as the Z Fold7 — and possibly the boldest (and bulkiest) experiment Samsung’s ever shipped.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715056" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Alleged-Galaxy-Z-Tri-Fold.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>According to the leak, Samsung will produce just 20,000 to 30,000 units, focusing sales in Korea and select Asian markets, including China. No plans for the US or Europe yet, which makes sense — this one looks more like a concept turned collectible than a mass-market product.</p>

<p>When folded, the TriFold reportedly resembles the Z Fold7, complete with a 6.5-inch outer screen. Unfold both sides, though, and you get a 10-inch tablet-like canvas (vs. 8 inches on the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/">Z Fold 7</a>) for improved multitasking or entertainment. Power comes from a 5,600mAh battery — about 27% larger than the Fold7’s (4,400mAh unit) — to handle the triple-hinge setup and all that extra screen real estate.</p>

<p>At 14 mm thick when folded, it’s definitely no slim pocket companion — around 60% thicker than the Fold7 and still chunkier than <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/10/huawei-mate-xt-ultimate-design-tri-fold-specs-price/">Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate</a>, which measures 12.8mm and weighs 298g. But that’s the trade-off Samsung seems willing to make in pursuit of the ultimate foldable showcase that also protects the softer foldable display when not in use.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="616" height="736" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/samsung-tri-fold-specs-price-launch-date-leaks.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-715054" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/samsung-tri-fold-specs-price-launch-date-leaks.jpg 616w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/samsung-tri-fold-specs-price-launch-date-leaks-251x300.jpg 251w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/samsung-tri-fold-specs-price-launch-date-leaks-352x420.jpg 352w" sizes="(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px" /></figure></div>

<p>The TriFold is shaping up to be less of a mainstream launch and more of a tech statement — a proof of concept for Samsung’s next phase in foldables. Whether that $3,000 price tag buys you innovation or just bragging rights, we’ll find out soon enough when the curtain lifts on December 5.</p>

<p>We finally have the first official glimpse of the long rumored <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-tri-fold/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</a>. This device has surfaced in various leaks and rumors, and now, the brand has officially offered a preview that showcases its massive screen real estate. So let&#8217;s check it out.</p>

<h2>Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold Preview</h2>

<p>During the K-Tech Showcase, the South Korean tech giant had the tri folding phone showcased behind glass, mounting it as a showpiece. This was the real deal, but there were no teaser videos or render images shared during this event. But Samsung wasn&#8217;t too keen on revealing everything just yet, as journalists and other attendees weren&#8217;t allowed to hold the phone or use it, which is typical in a tech event. </p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="700" height="381" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold.jpg?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold" class="wp-image-712891" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold.jpg 700w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-300x163.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-696x379.jpg 696w" sizes="(max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px" /><figcaption>Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold</figcaption></figure></div>

<p>Furthermore, we can only see the two Galaxy Z TriFold from the front. One is completely folded and appears like a regular smartphone, but the other is completely unfurled to show off the massive display size. While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 impressed with its super thin design, Samsung&#8217;s first dual hinge smartphone will likely be bulky. Based on what we know so far, the premium foldable will sport a 6.49-inch cover display, while the fully unfolded main screen could reach nearly 10 inches (9.96&#8243;). </p>

<p>It is expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, with support for NFC, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Samsung is reportedly planning on <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/03/samsung-galaxy-z-trifold-october-launch/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">manufacturing only around 50,000 units</a> of the Galaxy Z TriFold, with its launch being right around the corner. This is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s latest foldable, the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/">Z Fold7</a>, has impressed with its slim yet durable build. It also boasts a big camera upgrade—a 200MP main sensor that can capture a good amount of detail when there’s sufficient light. But it is still far from the much cheaper bar flagship, the S25 Ultra, when it comes to zoom. That could be changing with Samsung&#8217;s upcoming Galaxy Z TriFold.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-708731" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Galaxy-Z-TriFold-100x-zoom.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The leak, spotted on X by tipsters @TechHighest and @evowizz, shows a series of animations highlighting the TriFold’s interface. While much of it covers multitasking features—like dragging apps across panels and DeX support for desktop-style use—the standout detail is in the camera app. One animation reveals a zoom option going all the way up to 100x, something no Samsung foldable has offered to date.</p>

<p>If true, this would be a significant step forward. Since the original Galaxy Z Fold in 2019, Samsung’s foldables have been limited to a modest 3x telephoto zoom, while the company’s Galaxy S Ultra series boasts an additional periscope telephoto (5x on the S25 Ultra) and can zoom up to 100x. Unfortunately, the leak didn’t reveal the resolution or focal length of the periscope module. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see a dual telephoto setup on Samsung&#8217;s first-generation tri-fold, which must remain slim to avoid becoming too bulky when folded.</p>

<p>The TriFold is also rumored to feature a 200MP main sensor, similar to the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which further suggests Samsung could finally bring its foldable lineup closer to its camera-centric flagships.</p>

<p>Of course, it’s worth stressing that this is still an unconfirmed leak. Samsung hasn’t revealed any official details, and with the TriFold likely to cost over $2,000 (the Z Fold7 starts at $1,999), expectations will be sky-high. Still, if the 100x zoom makes it to the final product, it could mark a turning point—making foldables not just about flexible displays, but about uncompromised flagship experiences across the board.</p>

<p>Rumors point to <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/20/samsungs-tri-fold-phone-reportedly-delayed/">a November launch event</a>, where Samsung may finally lift the curtain on its first tri-fold phone. Until then, the leaks have already set high expectations, especially for smartphone photography fans.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s long-rumored tri-fold phone is edging closer to reality, and a new leak gives us a clearer idea of how the company plans to set it apart. Unlike Huawei’s <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2024/09/10/hands-on-with-huawei-mate-xt-the-worlds-first-tri-folding-smartphone/">Mate XT</a> or the recently launched <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/09/04/huaweis-mate-xts-is-the-only-tri-fold-phone-you-can-actually-buy-in-2025/">Mate XTs</a>, which go for a Z-style layout, Samsung seems to be trying something different with its first triple-folding device.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-1024x576.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-705853" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-1024x576.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-300x169.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-768x432.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-1536x864.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-696x392.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-1068x601.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043-747x420.png 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/Screenshot-2025-09-08-194043.png 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>Shared by leaker @TechHighest on X, official-looking One UI animations show the Galaxy Tri-Fold folding around a central cover display. That means when the device is shut, the usable front screen sits in the middle section instead of on the outermost panel. It’s a departure from expectations, but one that could have some practical benefits—like making it easier to use the main cameras for selfies, since they sit just to the side of the cover screen.</p>

<p>This central positioning could improve ergonomics, letting users hold the folded device by the inactive panels while avoiding smudges on the cover screen. For those wondering, the wireless and reverse wireless charging coil is placed below the camera module, meaning the phone can be used much like a regular bar phone while charging wirelessly or sharing power. It looks like Samsung has put some thought into making the tri-fold practical in everyday use.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-video"><video controls src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/KEZvwoivtsekbNch-1.mp4"></video></figure>

<p>The main display size isn’t confirmed, though earlier reports suggest something close to 10 inches when fully unfolded. That would put it in the same ballpark as Huawei’s Mate XTs. Samsung is also expected to keep its traditional Fold lineup going, so the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/">Galaxy Z Fold7</a> remains an option for buyers who prefer the classic two-panel design.</p>

<p>The leaked One UI animations suggest Samsung isn’t just following Huawei’s lead but carving out its own identity in the tri-fold space. The company has already <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/10/samsungs-galaxy-ai-is-coming-to-400-million-devices-by-end-of-2025-including-wearables-xr-and-the-tri-fold/">confirmed</a> that the ‘Galaxy Z TriFold’ will debut before 2026, with a recent leak pointing to an October launch.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s next big experiment in foldable tech is <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/10/samsungs-galaxy-ai-is-coming-to-400-million-devices-by-end-of-2025-including-wearables-xr-and-the-tri-fold/">confirmed</a> for a Q3 launch, and the date may be closer than expected. Fresh leaks now suggest the company is adding features that could make the device more practical than its prototype predecessors.</p>

<h2>Wireless charging, reverse charging, and NFC</h2>

<p>Tipster @TechHighest shared three animations on X that appear to come from Samsung’s One UI 8 software. The clips highlight key functions of the upcoming tri-folding device, including wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and NFC payments.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="602" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-1024x602.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-704228" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-1024x602.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-300x176.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-768x452.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-1536x904.png 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-696x409.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-1068x628.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855-714x420.png 714w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141855.png 1552w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>One animation shows the TriFold resting on a wireless charging pad, with charging coils located on the rightmost panel when folded. Another demonstrates reverse wireless charging, allowing the phone to top up accessories like earbuds. The third clip confirms NFC payments will work even when the phone is fully unfolded.</p>

<p>The TriFold is expected to use a triple-fold design with two inward hinges forming a “G” shape, similar to Samsung’s Flex G concept shown at MWC 2025. Leaks point to a 10.1-inch inner display, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and a 200MP main camera. On the software side, One UI 8 may introduce a new <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/08/22/samsungs-galaxy-z-trifold-leak-teases-multitasking-focused-design/">“Split Trio” mode</a> for multitasking across the large screen.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped">
<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="521" height="320" data-id="704225" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141632.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-704225" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141632.png 521w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141632-300x184.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141632-356x220.png 356w" sizes="(max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px" /></figure>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="491" height="328" data-id="704224" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141715.png?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-704224" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141715.png 491w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Screenshot-2025-08-30-141715-300x200.png 300w" sizes="(max-width: 491px) 100vw, 491px" /></figure>
</figure>

<p>Pricing hasn’t been confirmed, but early estimates put it between $3,000 and $3,499. Samsung could share more at its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/08/28/samsungs-galaxy-event-sneak-peek/">IFA 2025 press event on September 4</a>.</p>

<p>If the leaks are accurate, the Galaxy Z TriFold will mark Samsung’s boldest move yet in foldable technology. By combining wireless charging, reverse charging, and NFC with a slim tri-fold form factor, it could offer a mix of innovation and everyday convenience. Positioned against rivals like Huawei’s Mate XTs, the device might reshape what a foldable can do for power users and early adopters.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/">Samsung</a>’s first tri-folding phone is starting to take shape, with new leaks hinting at how the company plans to push foldables into new territory. Expected to arrive by late 2025, the device looks set to focus heavily on multitasking and productivity.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="606" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1.jpg?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-702970" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1.jpg 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1-300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1-768x455.jpg 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1-696x412.jpg 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-tri-fold-1024x606-1-710x420.jpg 710w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>According to UI design leaks (via Sammobile), the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/10/samsung-has-its-tri-fold-ready-but-thinks-the-world-isnt-ready-for-it/">Galaxy Z TriFold</a> will feature a new multitasking tool called “Split Trio.” Unlike the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/">Galaxy Z Fold7</a>, which forces two apps to share a quarter of the screen, Split Trio lets users run three full-sized app windows side by side, each behaving like its own phone display.</p>

<p>Another addition is the ability to mirror the cover screen’s three home screens onto the larger display. This means widgets and apps can carry over seamlessly, though users can also choose independent layouts, similar to Samsung’s current foldables.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="576" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-1024x576.webp?x44794" alt="" class="wp-image-702971" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-1024x576.webp 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-300x169.webp 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-768x432.webp 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-1536x864.webp 1536w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-696x392.webp 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-1068x601.webp 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring-747x420.webp 747w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-TriFold-Cover-Screen-Mirroring.webp 1920w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p>The TriFold is expected to ship with Android 16 and run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite processor. Leaks also suggest a triple-camera setup similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, a slim build with a bigger battery, and Samsung’s seven-year update promise for OS and security patches. Pricing hasn’t been confirmed but could fall between $2,500 and $3,000, putting it up against Huawei’s Mate XT in the ultra-premium foldable space.</p>

<p>Samsung is likely to showcase the Galaxy Z TriFold at its late-2025 Unpacked event, or possibly early 2026. If the leaks hold up, the device could mark a major step forward for foldables, offering a blend of portability and multitasking that we haven’t seen before.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/category/samsung/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Samsung</a>’s upcoming tri-fold is making headlines lately, and for good reason. The company’s first triple-display foldable seems closer than ever to launch, and it has recently been revealed to carry the <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/2025/07/17/samsungs-tri-fold-wont-be-called-galaxy-g-fold-trademark-hints-at-a-different-name/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">name Galaxy Z TriFold</a>. Now, a new beta version of Samsung’s One UI 8 software may have just confirmed what’s powering it.</p>

<p>According to a report from<em> <a href="https://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-z-trifold-chip-3578603/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Android Authority</a></em>, a code string found in the latest One UI 8 beta includes a snippet “siop_q7mq_sm8750.” The “q7mq” part is believed to reference the Z TriFold itself, while SM8750 is the model number for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite.</p>

<h2><strong>We are not surprised</strong></h2>

<p>That lines up with expectations. Samsung already uses the same flagship chip in its <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-fold-7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Galaxy Z Fold 7</a> and <a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/samsung-galaxy-z-flip-7/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Flip 7</a>, so it’s no surprise the tri-fold would follow suit. But it’s still a solid confirmation that Samsung isn’t holding back on performance for its most ambitious foldable yet.</p>

<div class="wp-block-image"><figure class="aligncenter size-large"><img loading="lazy" width="1024" height="683" src="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1024x683.png?x44794" alt="Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7" class="wp-image-697081" srcset="https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1024x683.png 1024w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-300x200.png 300w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-768x512.png 768w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-696x464.png 696w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-1068x712.png 1068w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2-630x420.png 630w, https://www.gizmochina.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Samsung-Galaxy-Z-Fold-7-2.png 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure></div>

<p>If true, the Snapdragon 8 Elite could give the Z TriFold a major edge over<a href="https://www.gizmochina.com/product/huawei-mate-xt-ultimate/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> Huawei’s Mate XT</a> in terms of performance. It is powered by a 7nm Kirin 9010 chip, which operates at a maximum frequency of just 2.3GHz. By comparison, Qualcomm’s latest flagship reaches up to 4.47GHz on its prime core. It’s not even close.</p>

<p>Huawei is reportedly prepping a second-gen tri-fold for late 2025, likely powered by the Kirin 9020. But with a max clock speed of just 2.5GHz, even the updated chip may struggle to keep up with Qualcomm’s silicon.</p>

<p>Of course, hardware is only half the story. A seamless tri-fold experience will require software that knows how to make use of three screens, not just stretch apps across them.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Huawei has made strides on that front with its in-house HarmonyOS Next system. Now it’ll be interesting to see how Samsung plans to take advantage of the three displays on the Z TriFold.</p>
