Microsoft has added two new Fallout-themed models to its controller lineup: the Xbox Wireless Controller Fallout Pip-Boy and the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 Fallout Pip-Boy. Both are built around the look and feel of the Pip-Boy device from the Fallout games, shifting the focus from earlier Vault Boy themed designs to something closer to what players use in the wasteland.

The controllers use the same warm green color seen on the Pip-Boy screen, along with Fallout style HUD icons. The Xbox Wireless Controller Fallout Pip-Boy features a green metallic D-Pad and a custom Fallout top case designed to highlight the series’ familiar look and details. It is available for preorder for a limited time through the Microsoft Store.

Players who want to design their own version can use Xbox Design Lab. Sony has announced a new special edition DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5. The Icon Blue Special Edition draws inspiration from the iconic blue lighting associated with the PlayStation brand since the PS4 era. It features layered shades of blue across the grips and lower shell, along with a glossy pattern of the PlayStation symbols on the touchpad.

The controller launches on October 20 in the United States and Canada, followed by a release on October 28 in Mexico and Chile. Sony has set the retail price at $84.99 USD, CA$109.99, MXN $1,899, and CLP $93,490. The Icon Blue model will be available exclusively through Walmart stores and Walmart’s official website in the respective regions.

Sony added Katakana characters on the back of the controller that spell “PlayStation” in Japanese. The company said this detail pays homage to the brand’s roots. According to Leo Cardoso from Sony’s Color, Material and Finish design team, the controller captures the feeling of anticipation and immersion that begins the moment the console powers on and the signature blue light appears.

The Icon Blue edition maintains all the features of the standard DualSense controller. It supports haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, motion controls, a built-in microphone, and a USB-C port. The G8+ has a one-button wake-up feature for the switch console

The G8+ features an asymmetrical design with a button layout reminiscent of an Xbox controller. It utilizes Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless connectivity and is compatible with a wide range of devices including PC, Switch, Android, Hongmeng, and iOS (version 13 and above).

For the Switch console, the G8+ boasts a one-button wake-up function for added convenience. It also includes a built-in six-axis gyroscope for motion control and is compatible with devices measuring up to 215mm in length, making it suitable for use with tablets like the Y700 and iPad mini.

Starting in October, Steam will make it easier for you to know if a game supports Sony’s DualSense or DualShock controllers. The update comes from Valve, the company behind Steam, as they aim to make the platform more controller-friendly.

Steam is also making some games more friendly for PlayStation controllers

Developers will now fill out a survey in Steamworks, a set of tools provided by Valve. This lets them say if their game works well with different types of controllers, including Xbox and Sony’s DualShock and DualSense. When you’re shopping for a new game, you’ll be able to see this info right on the Steam store.

The move comes as more people are using Sony controllers on Steam. In 2018, just 11% of all gaming sessions on Steam used a Sony controller. That number is now up to 27%. Overall, 87 million Steam users have played a game using some sort of controller since 2017. Most used Xbox controllers, but a good number also used PlayStation controllers and others.

This update is the first in a series aimed at making Steam more friendly for different controllers. The goal is to make it easier for you to pick games that you know will work well with the gear you already have.

In a shocking turn of events, an OceanGate Expeditions tourist submarine, named Titan, went missing with five individuals on board during an expedition to explore the historic wreck of the Titanic. As the search and rescue operations intensify, troubling details have emerged regarding the sub’s non-standard design and its utilization of a Logitech F710 wireless PC game controller from 2010 for steering.

Using a $30 controller for a deep-sea trip of around 3 miles raises questions

The crew of the missing vessel includes Hamish Harding, a British billionaire and adventure enthusiast, as well as Stockton Rush, the founder and CEO of OceanGate. The submarine vanished in the North Atlantic, approximately 900 miles east of Cape Cod, shortly after commencing their dive. Contact with the Polar Prince research ship was lost about 1 hour and 45 minutes into the expedition.

One concerning aspect is that the entire sub is sealed shut from the outside, making it impossible for the occupants to escape without external assistance. Even if the vessel resurfaces, the crew members could face suffocation within the capsule. During a previous expedition last summer, the submersible temporarily went astray, albeit while maintaining communication with the surface. The current situation, however, is far more dire, with all contact severed and rescue operations being the primary focus.

As the search continues, authorities have deployed various resources, including sonar buoys and aircraft equipped with underwater detection capabilities. Time is of the essence, as estimates suggest the crew may have limited oxygen reserves remaining. Once the submarine and its occupants are located, a thorough investigation will be initiated to determine the cause of this incident.
