The iQOO Z11 5G and Redmi Note 15 Pro+ bring flagship-style features to the upper mid-range segment, but they take very different approaches. The iQOO focuses on massive battery life and gaming performance, while the Redmi pushes a more premium experience with stronger cameras and multimedia features. For buyers in this range, this comparison is far more competitive than it first appears

Design and Display

Build and Feel

The iQOO Z11 5G focuses more on practicality with a durable IP68/IP69-rated body, a clean matte-style finish, and a display tuned for fluidity. The overall design feels gaming-oriented and performance-focused rather than premium. The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ takes a more polished approach with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, eco-leather or glass-style finishes, and stronger durability claims, including improved drop resistance. It simply looks and feels a bit more flagship-like in daily use.

Both devices are protected against water and dust, but Redmi’s extra durability layers make it feel more reassuring for long-term use. The iQOO, however, has a slightly more aggressive and youthful appeal that suits gamers well.

Display Quality

Both phones use large AMOLED panels with excellent sharpness and HDR support, but the experience differs. The iQOO Z11 offers a smoother 144Hz refresh rate and an incredible 5000 nits peak brightness, making scrolling and gaming feel exceptionally fluid. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ counters with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, higher PWM dimming, and richer color depth that feels more cinematic during media playback.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ delivers a more premium and refined display experience overall, especially for entertainment lovers. The iQOO Z11 feels faster and smoother for gaming-focused users.

Specifications Including Battery

Performance

Both smartphones run on the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset paired with the Adreno 810 GPU, so raw performance is very close. Daily multitasking, gaming, and app handling feel smooth on both devices. The iQOO Z11 gains an advantage with UFS 3.1 storage, which helps with faster app loading, quicker installs, and slightly better gaming responsiveness. The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ still performs well, but its UFS 2.2 storage feels less future-ready at this price point.

Software philosophy also differs. iQOO’s Origin OS feels performance-driven and optimized for speed, while HyperOS 2 on Redmi focuses more on polish and ecosystem features. Gamers may naturally lean toward the iQOO because it feels more aggressive under heavy load.

Battery and Charging

This is where the iQOO Z11 becomes extremely hard to ignore. Its massive 9020mAh silicon-carbon battery is one of the largest in the segment and comfortably outclasses the Redmi’s 6500mAh cell in endurance. Even with heavy gaming or long streaming sessions, the iQOO should last noticeably longer.

The Redmi counters with faster 100W charging compared to iQOO’s 90W solution, but the difference in real-world charging speed is not dramatic.

Verdict

The iQOO Z11 wins this section because of its exceptional battery life and faster storage performance. The Redmi remains balanced, but the iQOO feels more power-user friendly.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ clearly targets camera-focused buyers with its 200MP main sensor, OIS support, and dedicated ultrawide camera. Photos should offer better detail retention, stronger dynamic range, and more versatility in different shooting situations. The addition of Dolby Vision-style display tuning also helps photos and videos appear richer during playback.

The iQOO Z11 uses a simpler dual-camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor and an auxiliary lens. While the main camera should still perform well in daylight and casual photography, the absence of an ultrawide camera limits flexibility. Its camera system feels more functional than ambitious.

Video recording is solid on both devices with 4K support, but Redmi’s stabilization and higher frame-rate options provide more creative flexibility.

Selfie Camera

Both phones feature 32MP front cameras, but the iQOO gains an advantage by supporting 4K selfie video recording. Content creators and vlog users may appreciate this extra capability.

Verdict

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ is the stronger overall camera phone thanks to its superior main sensor and ultrawide lens. The iQOO only pulls ahead slightly for selfie video recording.

Pricing

The iQOO Z11 is priced at around $300 or ₹31,000, while the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ costs roughly $360 or ₹34,500. The difference is not massive, but it changes the value equation significantly.

At its price, the iQOO Z11 offers an unusually large battery, flagship-level display smoothness, and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It feels aggressively priced for gamers and heavy users who prioritize endurance and performance over camera versatility. Few phones in this range deliver such massive battery capacity without major compromises elsewhere.

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ justifies its higher price through a more premium build, better durability, stronger camera hardware, Dolby Vision support, and richer multimedia features. It feels like a more complete all-rounder rather than a specialist device.

Verdict

The iQOO Z11 delivers stronger raw value for money, especially for gaming and battery-focused buyers. The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ feels worth the premium for users who care more about cameras, display refinement, and premium design.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, launch timing, and applicable taxes. Always check whether the listed price is for a China unit or a global/international variant when purchasing.

Conclusion

The iQOO Z11 stands out mainly because of its enormous 9020mAh battery, 144Hz AMOLED display, bypass charging support, and faster UFS 3.1 storage. It feels purpose-built for gamers, travelers, and users who simply hate charging their phones frequently. The performance-focused tuning gives it a slightly more enthusiast-friendly personality.

The Redmi Note 15 Pro+ focuses on balance and refinement. Its 200MP camera, Dolby Vision display, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection, ultrawide lens, and polished software experience make it feel closer to a premium flagship-lite smartphone. It handles nearly every category well without obvious weaknesses.

Verdict

Overall, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ feels like the better all-round smartphone thanks to its more premium design, stronger camera setup, richer multimedia experience, and longer software support. The iQOO Z11 5G still stands out with its massive battery and gaming-focused performance, but for most users looking for a balanced daily flagship-style experience, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ is the smarter choice.

Disclaimer: This comparison is based on the specifications provided and is intended for general informational purposes. Actual performance, camera results, battery life, and overall experience may vary depending on real-world usage, software updates, and individual preferences.

The mid-range smartphone segment is becoming more competitive than ever, and the iQOO Z11 5G and Poco X8 Pro are two strong examples of that shift. One focuses heavily on battery life and gaming endurance, while the other aims for a more premium all-around experience with stronger performance and multimedia features. With both phones offering flagship-inspired specs at relatively aggressive prices, this comparison highlights which one actually delivers the better value depending on different types of users.

Design and Display

Build and Feel

The iQOO Z11 5G focuses heavily on endurance and practicality. Its clean design, IP68/IP69 protection, and large battery-oriented chassis make it feel like a device built for long gaming sessions and heavy outdoor usage. The plastic frame and back help keep durability concerns low, though it does not feel as premium in hand as the Poco X8 Pro.

The Poco X8 Pro takes a more refined approach with an aluminum frame and Gorilla Glass 7i protection. It looks and feels more polished, while features like Dolby Vision and stronger multimedia tuning give it a flagship-inspired touch. The compact feel compared to the iQOO also makes daily handling slightly more comfortable.

Display Quality

The iQOO Z11 5G offers a larger 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and extremely high 5000-nit peak brightness. Scrolling and gaming feel exceptionally fluid, and the bigger screen suits content consumption well.

The Poco X8 Pro counters with a sharper AMOLED display supporting Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and 3840Hz PWM dimming. Colors appear richer and more cinematic, especially while streaming movies or HDR videos. The lower 120Hz refresh rate is barely noticeable in daily use.

Verdict

The iQOO Z11 5G feels more gaming-focused with its massive display and ultra-smooth refresh rate. However, the Poco X8 Pro delivers a more premium overall visual experience thanks to better display calibration, stronger materials, and enhanced multimedia features. Users prioritizing entertainment and design may lean toward Poco, while gamers and power users could prefer the iQOO approach.

Specifications Including Battery

Performance

The iQOO Z11 5G uses the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 paired with UFS 3.1 storage. Performance is stable and efficient for gaming, multitasking, and long-term sustained workloads. Origin OS 6 also appears optimized for smooth responsiveness, especially during extended sessions.

The Poco X8 Pro pushes harder with the Dimensity 8500 Ultra and faster UFS 4.1 storage. App loading speeds are noticeably quicker, gaming performance is stronger, and high-end titles can sustain better frame consistency. The chipset positioning clearly places the Poco closer to upper mid-range flagship territory.

Battery and Charging

Battery life is where the iQOO Z11 5G becomes extremely difficult to ignore. The enormous 9020mAh battery is easily among the biggest in the segment and can comfortably last beyond a full day of heavy use. The 90W charging support still keeps refill times reasonable despite the huge capacity.

The Poco X8 Pro uses a smaller 6500mAh battery but compensates with faster 100W charging and better charging standards support. It feels more balanced for users who value speed over outright endurance.

Verdict

The Poco X8 Pro wins pure performance with its faster chipset and storage setup, but the iQOO Z11 5G dominates battery life in a way very few smartphones currently can. Users wanting maximum longevity and gaming endurance may find the iQOO more practical, while the Poco feels faster and more future-ready overall.

Camera

Main and Secondary Lenses

The iQOO Z11 5G keeps things simple with a 50MP OIS primary camera and an auxiliary sensor. Daylight shots are expected to look clean with balanced colors and reliable sharpness, while OIS should help with low-light stability. However, the lack of an ultrawide lens limits versatility, especially for landscape and group photography.

The Poco X8 Pro delivers a more complete setup with a 50MP OIS main sensor and an 8MP ultrawide camera. Video capabilities are also stronger with support for 4K 60fps, HDR10+, and extensive slow-motion modes. The camera experience feels more polished and feature-rich overall.

Selfie Camera

The iQOO Z11 5G gains an advantage with its 32MP selfie camera capable of 4K video recording. Content creators and video callers may appreciate the sharper front camera output.

The Poco X8 Pro uses a smaller 20MP sensor limited to 1080p recording. Selfies should still appear decent, but it lacks the premium front-camera flexibility offered by the iQOO.

Verdict

The Poco X8 Pro is the stronger all-around camera phone thanks to its ultrawide lens, superior video capabilities, and more versatile imaging package. Still, the iQOO Z11 5G offers a surprisingly strong selfie experience, making it attractive for users focused on social media and front-camera content.

Pricing

The iQOO Z11 5G is priced at around $300 or ₹31,000, while the Poco X8 Pro sits higher at approximately $375 or ₹35,000. The difference may not seem massive on paper, but it places the Poco in a more premium category where expectations naturally increase.

At its price, the iQOO Z11 5G offers tremendous battery value. A massive 9020mAh battery, 144Hz AMOLED display, IP68/IP69 protection, and 32MP 4K selfie camera make it feel aggressively positioned for gamers and heavy users. It delivers standout hardware without crossing flagship pricing territory.

The Poco X8 Pro justifies its higher cost with better materials, stronger performance hardware, faster storage, improved multimedia features, and a more versatile camera system. The overall package feels more refined and balanced rather than specialized.

Verdict

The iQOO Z11 5G offers better value for buyers prioritizing battery life and gaming endurance on a tighter budget. Meanwhile, the Poco X8 Pro feels worth the extra money for users wanting a more premium, complete smartphone experience with stronger cameras and flagship-style performance.

Disclaimer:
Prices are approximate and may vary based on country, region, launch timing, and applicable taxes. Always check whether the listed price is for a China unit or a global/international variant when purchasing.

Conclusion

The iQOO Z11 5G stands out primarily because of its enormous 9020mAh battery, which completely changes day-to-day usability. Long gaming sessions, travel, streaming, and multitasking become far less stressful when battery anxiety is nearly removed. The 144Hz AMOLED panel and 32MP 4K selfie camera also give it a distinctive edge in specific areas.

The Poco X8 Pro feels more balanced and premium overall. Features like UFS 4.1 storage, Dolby Vision support, aluminum frame, ultrawide camera, and advanced video recording capabilities create a more flagship-inspired experience. It may not dominate a single category as aggressively as the iQOO, but it performs strongly across nearly every department.

Verdict

iQOO Z11 5G is the better choice for battery-focused power users, gamers, and buyers wanting maximum hardware value at a lower price. Poco X8 Pro, however, feels like the more complete smartphone overall with stronger performance, better cameras, and a more polished multimedia experience. The final choice depends on whether endurance or refinement matters more.

Actual performance, camera results, battery life, and overall experience may vary depending on real-world usage, software updates, and individual preferences.

These devices won’t be the already available gaming phones, rather the tipster reveals these phones to be the upcoming devices like the Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, Red Magic 7 series, Lenovo Legion Y90, and Black Shark 5 series.

We can expect a release for all of these gaming phones to occur by February or March. Thus, we may see more than four gaming phones in the market. Now, the primary reason for these gaming phones to compete will be the power-house Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

All of these gaming phones will be powered by the aforementioned chipset and will have their own cooling system inside. These phones may have the fancy VC liquid cooling and copper pipe technology.

Other than this, it is evident that we’ll see high refresh rate screens, impressive vibration motors, and even RGB lights on some of these phones.

From the screenshots gathered, the Lenovo Legion Y90 has been running Genshin Impact for 25 minutes at ultra-high graphics settings at 60fps, and throughout testing, the Lenovo Legion Y90 maintained a steady performance, with a peak temperature of only 38.4 degrees Celsius, which is very cool compared to its competition where devices can exceed temperatures of 40 or even 50 degrees Celsius, which would make the mobile gaming experience very warm and uncomfortable.

Although the Lenovo Legion Y90 is being advertised to have a 144Hz refresh rate display, it did not seem to run Genshin Impact at 144fps, it ran the game under 60fps throughout Lenovo’s testing. So whether the phone will support 144fps on Genshin Impact, users would have to test it themselves after the phone’s official release.

Other highlighting features of the Lenovo Legion Y90 besides its 144Hz refresh rate display include a 720Hz touch response rate for shorter response times for a smoother software experience, a large 6.92” E4 AMOLED display provided by Samsung, HDR10 Enhanced support, and Legion’s custom display color profile tuning for gamers to provide the best gaming experience for gamers. As a gaming phone, the phone is not designed to have a punch-hole in the display to remove any blind spots during gaming.

Other details such as the chipset under the hood or the release date of the phone have not yet been officially announced by Lenovo, but leaks from insiders in China previously mentioned that the Legion Y90 is packing a Snapdragon 888 and the launch of the Lenovo Legion Y90 could happen on January 1, 2022.

Since the brands have already unveiled their flagship gaming phones for the first half of 2020, we decided to compare the two smartphones, side by side, to see which one comes out on top.

So let’s pit the Black Shark 3 Pro 5G vs Nubia Red Magic 5G to see which is a better gaming smartphone in the 2020 market.

To make things simple, we have divided this comparison into five parts – display, game operation, gaming performance, cooling system, and battery endurance.

Black Shark 3 Pro vs Red Magic 5G: Display

The reason why we have put the display part first is because the display is the most important hardware for a gamer. A high-resolution screen with a high-quality touch panel will ensure smooth and accurate gameplay. Also, gamers have to stare at the screen for hours when playing games – so it needs to be eye-friendly too.

Gaming phones‘ display is generally larger than most regular smartphones. The Red Magic 5G features a 6.65-inch 1080P display with an impressive 144Hz refresh rate, while the Black Shark 3 Pro features a 7.1-inch 2K display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Know that the Nintendo switch only features a 720P 6.2-inch display. But the reason why Switch is dominant in the mobile-console market is because it has ‘excellent games’, which is missing in the mobile phones’ platform.

Both gaming phones have a pretty efficient pixel arrangement, which is really similar to Samsung display’s arrangement, the top AMOLED pixel arrangement. And due to a higher resolution, the Black Shark 3 Pro has more crowded pixels. Meanwhile, they both feature super high sampling rates. For Red Magic 5G, the figure is 240Hz, and for Black Shark, it amazingly reaches 270Hz. But in actual gaming tests, it’s really hard to perceive the difference. However, the touch response did feel a bit faster than regular flagships.

Considering the lower priority of color presentation in E-sport devices, we did not test its color accuracy and coverage. But according to the Black Shark 3 Pro, under the standard mode, the delta E is as low as 1, while so far there is no information about the Red Magic 5G. But both of them support the wider DCI-P3 color gamut. So accordingly, we can say that they both have no big color problem as e-sport gaming phones. If you guys want more tests on the color accuracy their displays, please leave a comment below and we may do a separate test on it.

Black Shark 3 Pro vs Red Magic 5G: Gaming

Now let’s look at their effort on improving gameplay. For the Red Magic 5G, it features two touch buttons on the frame as other 2019 gaming phones did. And for these two buttons, the touch buttons have a 300Hz sampling rate, which provides a faster response than the operation on its display. So, we also suggest that it’s better to assign important operations to the buttons, like shooting and aiming, if you are going to play games on it.

The biggest surprise of the Black Shark 3 Pro is the tactile buttons! It dramatically boosted the gameplay and experience. The true physical feedback created a totally new experience in smartphone gaming, and it also gives it a professional mobile console look. So gamers are definitely in for a treat. In addition to this, the Black shark model doesn’t abandon its pressure touch buttons.

As we combined these two types of buttons into gaming, it’s not easy to get used to it. Anyway, in FPS gaming, these two models are the best choices, and if you want to experience new operation feedback on mobile gaming, my choice is definitely the Black Shark 3 Pro.

Black Shark 3 Pro vs Red Magic 5G: Specs

Both the models are equipped with Snapdragon 865, UFS3.0 storage, and LPDDR5 memory. So performance is going to be more or less the same. We selected the 3D-Mark benchmark to give you a better idea about their theoretical performance. Well, what’s fun is that the Red Magic 5G in my hand defeated 100% of the tested phones, including all the Red Magic 5G models. Although the Black Shark 3 Pro was unable to beat the Red Magic 5G, its score of 7249 still defeated 99% of tested models.

About their gaming performance, we did frame-rate tests on 6 games, which were PUBG mobile, Call of Duty mobile, Honkai Impact 3, Asphalt 9, NBA 2K20 and the final stress test, Nimian Legends.

In PUBG Mobile, we broke the graphics limit of 120fps, and did the test on HDR graphics. For Black Shark 3 Pro, the frame rate stably maintained at 89.56fps, almost the best result for its 90Hz display. As for the Red Magic 5G, thanks to the 144Hz display, the frame rate was up to another level, at around 116fps.

In Call of duty, due to the limited framerate, we got very similar results on these two models. One is 59.97fps, the other one is 59.99fps.

In Honkai Impact 3, both models fared differently. Again, due to the differences of the display, their max framerates just matched their display refresh rates. But the gap between average framerates was quite strange. We thought the reason here is their gaming resolution. On the Black Shark 3 Pro, probably the game was running under a 2K resolution as the display supported, while the Red Magic 5G only had a 1080P-resolution condition.

The result of NBA 2K20 was also strange. It seems that the NBA 2K20 was running under limited 60fps on the Black Shark 3 Pro, but the game was able to run up to a 144Hz framerate. So, the gap between these two models was quite large.

Next one is Asphalt 9, the frame rate advantage of the Red Magic 5G was gone due to the game frame limitation of 30fps. In addition, the 2k display of the Black Shark 3 Pro turned into a pro as it could provide a better image quality with the larger display.

In the final stress test of the Nimian Legends, we try to control all the variables about the display with the build-in graphic settings. Under the highest 1080P graphic settings, the Red Magic 5G took the lead with a significant framerate gap. It ran at an average of 51.66fps, while the framerate of Black Shark 3 Pro was only 36.3fps.

So in conclusion, the 144Hz display no doubt brings a better gaming fluency and performance on the Red Magic 5G. On the other hand, if you want more detailed image quality, the Black Shark 3 Pro with 2K display would be a better choice. In addition, you can also switch the display resolution to 1080P on the Black Shark 3 Pro to have a better gaming fluency and longer battery life.

Another important feature of the gaming phone is its cooling system. PC-game enthusiasts probably have a better picture of the significance of an effective cooling system. Overheating problem could lead to an uncomfortable holding feeling, and affects gaming performance as well. So, great hardware without effective cooling won’t really get your money’s worth.

Red Magic was known as the only brand to integrate active air cooling and liquid cooling together. It’s not strange in the PC, but it’s a huge deal for a smartphone due to its space limitations. On the other hand, the cooling system of the Black Shark 3 Pro is more conservative. A sandwich structure is applied inside to build up a ‘dual-liquid-cooling system’. Anyway, no matter what language they used in their advertisements, we prefer to judge their cooling performance with actual gaming temperature.

The way we tested it is to play PUBG in HDR and 90 fps settings for 40 mins. And the room temperature is 27℃.

The central logo of the Black Shark 3 Pro peaked at 43℃ while both the hand-holding area reached up to 38℃. Well, for the Red Magic 5G, it was a bit disappointing. The heat was mainly concentrated on the left side and peaked at 43.3℃. Because the heated area was close to the cameras, in the final 10 mins, my colleague found it too hot to hold the phone even for shooting. It’s comforting though that they both cooled down in just few minutes.

As a gaming phone, the Red Magic 5G has an excellent cooling system but as gamers, we also hope that the phone can deal with the heated issue in a smarter way, which doesn’t affect your ability to hold the device.

The heat generated inside the Black Shark 3 Pro may even be higher than the Red Magic 5G model, but the phone deals it with a better solution without affecting gameplay. And there was no underclocking of the CPUs of these two models.

So it’s safe to say that the Black Shark 3 Pro has a better cooling system.

Black Shark 3 Pro vs Red Magic 5G: Battery & Charging

As e-sport gaming phones, both of them offer a large battery and super-fast charging. The Black Shark 3 Pro is equipped with a 5000mAh battery with a 65W fast-charger. The smaller Red Magic 5G has a 4500mAh one with a 55W fast-charger.

In the actual charging test, the Black Shark 3 Pro only took 22 mins to charge the power from 0 to 70%, and eventually took 44 mins to complete the test of full-charging. For the Red Magic 5G, 15 mins charging can top up 50% of the power, and the full-charging test took us 42 mins. And then we started playing PUBG Mobile for 40 mins with the highest fresh rate and the highest HDR graphic settings they could access to. Both of them consumed 19% of the power.

So from the tests we did, their battery performance was very similar to each other. So no need to be confused about the battery life if you are going to pick one of them.

So that’s it for this Black Shark 3 Pro vs Red Magic 5G comparison. Both are excellent gaming phones.

While the Red Magic 5G more deserves the name of the ultimate E-sports phone in terms of sheer performance, the Black Shark 3 Pro provided better gaming operation and better cooling experience. Both brands have also developed a lot of accessories for these two models, which may somehow make up for the gaps in the gaming experience.

So which one do you prefer? The Red Magic 5G with its ultimate screen and performance or the well rounded Black Shark 3 Pro?

Back in 2003, Nokia was basically the Samsung of today, selling more phones than any other manufacturer. So, the Finnish phone giant thought this was a good time to experiment. Well, we have seen Nokia experiment before and some of them have been crazy (take the lipstick phone for example), but this time, the company wanted to fancy its chances in the gaming market.

Remember that back in 2003, phones were not gaming devices. Snake was probably the most popular game back then. So, launching a gaming smartphone hybrid wasn’t a mainstream idea. But Nokia was the largest phone manufacturer in the world and it could afford to make mistakes. This led to the birth of the legendary N-Gage lineup.

N-Gage was no ordinary phone and you could tell that just by looking at its design. The phone had a 2.1-inch display, which is really small by today’s standard, that was flanked by D-pad and several quick keys on the left and an alphanumeric keypad and other quick buttons on the right. If not for the buttons on the right, you would have easily mistaken it as an handheld gaming console.

Yet, the Nokia N-Gage was a true phone. You could make calls, send and receive texts, and even access calendar and other media applications. Further, you had Bluetooth and a WAP browser! So, it was a pretty decent phone for its time. One thing that was a bit awkward was the way you had to make/receive calls. Because the speaker was located on the side, when talking on the phone, you had to keep it sideways. Well, I’m sure not a lot of people were eager to talk on this device!

If you somehow could ignore this design aspect, the N-Gage offered some really good features on the gaming side. First, big names such as Sega, EA, and Ubisoft brought their popular titles to the N-Gage platform. Games like Call of Duty, FIFA, Sonic, and Tomb Raider were available to play on the phone. All you had to do is insert the gaming cartridge in the device and you were set for your gaming session. To top it off, the N-Gage supported Bluetooth wireless multiplayer and came with an onboard mp3 and video player too which was a big deal in its time!

Editor’s Pick: Xiaomi’s new AutoFull gaming chair is inspired by a Basketball

However, despite the popular titles available on the phone, it didn’t garner enough sales. One big reason could have been its expensive price tag of $299. In contrast, the Gameboy was cheaper! Another reason could have been its design and usability issues. I mean, you had to switch off the phone and remove the battery every single time to replace the gaming cartridge.

No wonder PC Mag described the N-Gage in these words — “a poorly implemented great idea.”

Despite the criticisms it received, the concept of a gaming phone, as we know it today, was established by the N-Gage. So when you see flagship smartphones like the ASUS ROG, Nubia Red Magic, or even the Xiaomi Blackshark, do remember the legendary Nokia N-Gage which conceptualized this idea!

Both these variants of the new Nubia gaming flagship will be up for reservations starting from May 13 at 10:00 local time, in China. We are talking about the most expensive memory configuration of the gaming phone: the one with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. In the Chinese market, the Camouflage and Blue editions of the Nubia Red Magic 3 will carry a price tag of 4299 Yuan, that is equivalent to about €560/$630 at the current exchange rate.

While waiting for the official availability of the handset, we think it is worth reminding you of the main specs and key features of the new gaming-centric flagship. The Nubia Red Magic 3 comes with a very aggressive design boasting an RGB light strip on the back. The display is of 6.65 inches, with 90 Hz refresh ratio and a Full HD+ resolution with 1080 x 2340 pixels. Despite having an AMOLED panel, it doesn’t have an in-display fingerprint scanner. Instead, the biometric sensor is placed on the rear side, under the single rear camera coming with a 48 MP resolution, an f/1.7 focal aperture and 8K video recording (as well as 4K at 60 fps).

Nubia Red Magic 3 is powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset and it has a very advanced cooling system with a real fan running at 14k rpm. Besides the above-mentioned memory configuration, there are two more configurations which come with a more affordable price tag. The cheapest one comes with 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage, while the midrange one is 8/128 GB. The battery has a huge capacity of 5000 mAh and it can be charged very quickly thanks to its 27W fast charging technology.

After Razer, Xiaomi, Nubia and ASUS, even Huawei is planning the release of a phone dedicated to gamers. The President of the company’s Consumer Business Jim Xu has just revealed it in an interview, and he has also confirmed that the phone will be officially unveiled in the second half of this year. He did not reveal anything about its specs sheet, but we think it will surely be something different from the Honor Play, especially for the aesthetics which should look different from a typical phone, just like the Xiaomi Black Shark and ASUS ROG Phone.

We only know one thing about this device: it will be equipped with the GPU Turbo technology. In case you have never heard about it, GPU Turbo is a technology which is able to improve graphics performance by up to 60 percent via software. Further, it can reduce energy consumption by up to 30 percent. These are great advantages when it comes to games as they are the most resource-demanding activities you can do on a phone (alongside multi-tasking). Given that it will be a gaming phone, we expect the upcoming Huawei device to pack the most powerful Huawei SoC.

We are referring to the octa-core Kirin 970 or even the upcoming Kirin 980 which is expected to debut on the Mate 20 series. Another element which could be present on the flagship is a wide display with a Full HD+ resolution and a high refresh rate. And, obviously, we expect to see a big amount of RAM and much internal storage. We will probably learn more about the upcoming gaming smartphone in the following weeks and we will keep you updated.
