The Garmin Edge 540 and Edge 840 Series cycling computers are available with integrated solar cells, albeit with an extra charge. The regular Edge 540 and 840 models can last up to 26 hours while the solar option offers up to 32 hours of battery life on a full charge. This can be extended to up to 60 hours on battery saver mode.

The Edge 540 and 840 are essentially the same in terms of functionality but the latter comes with a touchscreen. Both units get a 2.6-inch display with a resolution of 246 x 322 pixels, as well as GNSS and GPS modules. Moreover, the Edge 540 and Edge 840 come with 16 GB and 32 GB of storage, respectively.

These cycling accessories are equipped with advanced training metrics and navigational tools that are powered by Firstbeat Analytics. They allow users to track metrics such as VO2 max, training status, training load, and recovery time.

In addition, you can pair the computers with a compatible Garmin smartwatch to also receive data on your overall health and wellness. Furthermore, the Edge 540 and Edge 840 are compatible with e-bikes and Varia radar systems. They can provide in-ride notifications about when to refuel or rehydrate, along with insights into how the rider’s body is adapting to different environments. Garmin has unveiled two new bike computers – the Garmin Edge 540 and Garmin Edge 840. The models come in several variants including solar options and electric bike compatibility. The two models are generally compatible with regular bikes.

Garmin has continued to offer several products outside its traditional forte of smartwatches. It offers a range of cycling accessories and the new Edge 540/ 840 models follow that trajectory. The Garmin Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S smartwatches were just released a few days back. The two new Garmin bike computers have several similarities and the higher model sports a touchscreen. The two products are available with integrated solar cells at an extra cost of $100. The regular Edge 540/ 840 models offer up to 26 hours of battery life while the solar option yields up to 32 hours on a full charge.

The more versatile Edge 840 model has 32GB of storage while the Edge 840 has only 16GB. They both come with 2.6-inch displays and 246 x 322 pixels resolution. Both GNSS and GPS modules are present in the two Garmin Edge models. They are also compatible with Varia radar systems. The Garmin Edge 540 has a retail launch price of $349.99 while the Garmin Edge 840 launches at $449.99. The solar models are priced higher by $100 but they lack sensor bundles.
