Garmin is rolling out support for ECG for a number of its smartwatch models. The company announced the Marq Carbon Collection of premium smartwatches a couple of days ago and has now released Garmin’s electrocardiogram (ECG) app for its existing wearable models.

Garmin ECG app launched for Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro, and more

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cleared the brand’s electrocardiogram application, which brings support for the feature on Garmin smartwatches that were recently announced. The FDA approval now expands the app’s usage to the Fenix 7 Pro, Epix 2 Pro, Venu 3, and even the Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition. So now, it is possible to record heart rhythms with these smartwatches to check for signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib).

This feature doesn’t require any add on. In an official announcement, Garmin added that the software records 30 second ECGs. Notably, the ECG app will be offered to Epix 2 Pro, Fenix 7 Pro, Tactix 7 AMOLED Edition, and Venu 3 series of watches that are paired to smartphones that have Garmin’s latest software. Users can view this on any of the smartwatches listed above or from the Garmin Connect smartphone app.

However, it is worth noting that the feature is only being rolled out in certain regions at the moment. As of right now, the smart wearable maker has released this support in Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the US. Furthermore, Garmin has made the ECG app for users who are at least 22 years old. In other words, the ECG feature support isn’t rolling out globally.

Garmin is back with an upgraded Tactix 7 series of smartwatches, more than a year and a half after its initial release. The original Tactix 7 series all shared a transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display. The new smartwatch in the series features an AMOLED display. Keep reading to know more about this model.

Garmin Tactix 7 AMOLED smartwatch specs & features

The new addition to the Tactix 7 series, the Tactix 7 AMOLED, lives up to its name by swapping the MIP technology for an AMOLED display. This change brings a more vibrant and versatile display, boasting a native resolution of 454 x 454 pixels, in contrast to the 280 x 280 pixels of the previous models.

One standout feature of the Tactix 7 AMOLED is its support for an always-on display (AOD) mode, a common feature in modern smartwatches. However, enabling this mode reduces the battery life from 31 days to 11 days. If you opt to keep both AOD and GPS active, the estimated runtime drops further to 58 hours.

While the display has seen an upgrade, other key features remain unchanged. These include 10 ATM water resistance, access to Garmin’s smartwatch software suite, and a sapphire display lens paired with a titanium body. Notably, the Tactix 7 series continues to feature a 51 mm case size.

The Tactix 7 AMOLED is now available for purchase in various markets, including the US, with a retail price of $1,399.99 (Amazon).
