The update was primarily focused on bug fixes. On August 25, Garmin started rolling out beta version 15.12 for the same devices.

Change log:

Added the Gaming activity

Connect IQ bug fixes and improvements

Restores missing Tennis or Pickleball activities

Change to help preserve battery life throughout the lifespan of the product.

Gaming Activity

The Gaming activity (health) feature lets you connect your device to your PC, and it will keep an eye on your biometrics, like your stress levels and heart rate. The Gaming Activity will put up a personalized display on your PC screen. This display will show how stressed you are and your heart rate. The idea is to help you play games better by telling you when to play hard and when to take it easy.

Connect IQ bug fixes and improvements

With this update, Garmin has fixed numerous bugs regarding the Connect IQ store, an all-in-one source for personalizing your Garmin devices with free downloadable apps, widgets, watch faces, and music streaming services.

Restore Tennis or Pickleball Activities

For those unaware, Tennis and Pickleball are pre-installed activities on your smartwatch. They were not visible to some users. With this update, Garmin has tried to fix this issue, and hopefully, the users will now be able to see these activities.

Change to help preserve battery life throughout the lifespan of the product

This update is focused on preserving the long-term health of your battery. In simpler terms, it means your battery should age more slowly, ensuring it can offer good performance even after extended use over time.

One thing to note is that your device will automatically check for the update once every 24 hours. If it is available, the watch will prompt you about the update. It may take several hours for the update to finish transferring and be available on your watch to install. Additionally, you can go to the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update to download it manually.

US-based company Garmin, better known for its GPS and fitness tracking technology, has launched a clinically-proven electrocardiogram (ECG) app for its top smartwatch, the Venu 2 Plus. The app, which has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), aims to help users more closely monitor their heart health by utilizing existing sensors on the watch to record the electric signals produced by users’ hearts.

ECG capabilities have been available on consumer wearables for some time, but the approval process for these tools can be challenging. Garmin’s app, however, has been clinically validated, making it a major addition to the company’s already powerful platform. Eligible users can access the app immediately and record on-demand ECG readings right on the wrist. After thirty seconds, the app will display the heart rhythm results.

The app is capable of analyzing users’ results for potential health concerns such as early signs of atrial fibrillation (AFib). If synced with Garmin Connect, the app will also provide users with a history of their ECG readings, which can then be shared with medical professionals via the smartphone app.

At the moment, the ECG app is only available to users in the US and is only accessible on Venu 2 Plus. However, Garmin has stated that it plans to continue expanding the launch to additional products in the future. Furthermore, the app will be made available to more users as the company meets the necessary regulatory approval in additional regions.

It is important for users to ensure that their device is utilizing the latest version of Garmin Connect to access the ECG app on their Venu 2 Plus. With the ECG app, users can now have more control over their heart health and can easily share their results with medical professionals, making it a valuable tool for those who want to keep a close eye on their heart health.

Its price of Rs. 46,990 ($631) places it on the premium grade in the Indian smart wearables market.

Let us now see whether its specs justify its current price. The Garmin Venu 2 Plus is the company’s first smartwatch integrated with a voice calling function and hands-free voice assistant support. It was introduced during CES 2022 about two weeks ago and joins the growing Garmin lineup in India, following the 2021 launch of the Venu 2S and Venu 2S GPS.

Its 1.3” AMOLED screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, as well as stainless steel bezel. The voice calling function will enable users to make phone calls from their wrist conveniently via Bluetooth. Users can also respond to notifications via the voice assistant function without needing to actually type the text or press a button. The voice control in the Garmin Venu 2 Plus is compatible with smart home devices like Siri, Bixby, and other applications.

The Garmin Venu 2 Plus is a health and fitness smart wearable device, so users can tap from the robust suite of health and fitness features available in the device. Users can log a 2-minute session to record an array of health indicators including heart rate, heart rate variability, pulse Ox3, stress, and breathing pattern. A detailed report of the session can then be generated via the Garmin Connect app. This provides an overview of the health status of the user, as per the recorded health and vital statistics. The smartwatch has 25 active sports modes, thus offering a variety of options for exercise and fitness. There are over 75 preset animated workouts that provide an excellent approach to form and technique. The smartwatch is also compatible with Garmin Coach’s free adaptive training plans.

The smartwatch has 5ATM water resistance and offers music downloads of up to 650 songs. It offers up to 9 days of battery life when in smartwatch mode, but this reduces to just a day when in GPS mode and about 8 hours when in GPS with music mode. The innovative features available in the Garmin Venu 2 Plus may justify its price tag, but the coming days and weeks will determine how the Indian market has welcomed the new smartwatch.

The company has launched new smartwatches, including the Venu 2 Plus and the Vivomove Sport.

Venu 2 Plus

During the event, the American brand unveiled the latest addition to the Venu 2 series, which have finally received two crucial features. This includes the ability to take phone calls and support for voice assistant controls. The Venu 2 Plus sports a 1.3 inch AMOLED display that has a 416 x 416 pixels resolution, Always On mode, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 for protection. It is available in a single 43mm case size and arrives with a 20mm replaceable silicone strap.

The new smartwatch also arrives with the usual fitness related features, allowing it to track indoor and outdoor physical activities. It even arrives with an automatic incident detection feature that alerts emergency contacts with the user’s location. Garmin states that the Venu 2 Plus can last for up to 9 days on a single full charge and up to 8 days with GPS and music mode enabled. The smartwatch supports fast charging, which adds a day worth of use in just 10 minutes of charging.

Vivomove Sport

The Vivomove Sport from the company is a hybrid watch, which joins the existing Vivomove series. It adopts a small analog design with a hidden touchscreen display in the bottom half of the case. When the user interacts with the display, the physical hands move away to offer a clear view. Furthermore, this screen displays crucial information like incoming calls, text messages, along with important health related trackers like heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep tracking, and step mapping.

The new smartwatch also arrives with sports tracking as well and can pair with a smartphone for its GPS to track the distance traveled. This hybrid watch can last for up to 5 days when it is in smartwatch mode and up to 6 days in its Watch mode.

The new leaks were shared by WinFuture and showcases the upcoming smartwatches in all their glory. Talking about the Fenix 7 series first, it consists of the standard Fenix 7, Fenix 7S, and Fenix 7X, all of which will reportedly adopt a plastic and stainless body. Notably, one of these variants will even house a built in solar panel as well. Although, the exact specifications and details were not shared in the WinFuture report.

Furthermore, the Epix Gen2 is likely the successor to the Epix smartwatch that was first launched back in 2015. The new edition will sport a circular watch face and appears to support built in GPS, along with the usual biometric tracking feature like blood oxygen, heart rate, and even sleep mapping as well. The third smartwatch lineup consists of the Instinct 2 and Instinct 2S, which retain their original rugged design, similar to the original Instinct that launched back in 2018.

These watches reportedly feature an e-ink display that enables a longer battery life and also comes with features like heart rate, step, and sleep tracking as well. One version of the new Instinct even appears to support an integrated solar panel as well. Lastly, Garmin appears to also be working on a new Venu 2 Plus smartwatch, which is expected to launch in a white and black variant. These models will reportedly feature an OLED panel as well and are set to be released sometime in 2022. With the CES 2022 event being just around the corner, Garmin might just unveil these wearables at the conference.
