Samsung’s user interface has undergone two major changes in less than 5 years. It originally started as TouchWiz before transforming into Samsung Experience and has now evolved into One UI. New Samsung phones now launch with One UI and older phones getting updated to Android Pie also get the new user interface. Interestingly, Samsung is now rolling out the new interface to its smartwatches too.

There are reports that the Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and the Gear Sport are receiving a new update that brings One UI. The update not only brings a new user interface but also new watch features too.

There are new watch faces, a Quick Panel, support for downloading new designs of watch faces, battery optimizations, faster workout tracking, support for outdoor swimming tracking, and more. In addition, you can now wake up your watch by touching the screen and you get a notification if your heart rate crosses the set limit.

If you own any of these watches, do check the Galaxy Wearable app for the update which is about 100MB in size. If it hasn’t arrived on your device yet, you may have to wait since the update is rolling out gradually.

One UI for wearables actually debuted on the Galaxy Watch Active which launched alongside the Galaxy S10 series earlier this year.

Plenty of details of the Gear Fit 2 Pro in the past few weeks and today Samsung has officially unveiled it at the IFA 2017. The original Gear Fit wearable was officially introduced in April 2014. In June 2016, Samsung had announced the Gear Fit 2 and now the company has launched its improved version that is dubbed as Gear Fit 2 Pro alongside another wearable called the Samsung Gear Sport and Samsung Gear IconX wireless earphones.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro Specs, Features and Pricing

The Gear Fit 2 Pro has an improved design when compared to the Gear Fit 2. The newer device offers new strap options such full black band with striped pattern and the other one is black and red elegant band with 3D geometric pattern. Both the straps are equipped with buckle that promises better hold compared to the previous models.

As the rumor mill had revealed the Gear Fit 2 Pro offers better water resistance as it carries support for up to 5 ATM which means that it can be submerged in waters with a depth of up to 50 meters. This will allow users to track swimming related activities with ease. The device also comes with a dedicated app for swim tracking from Speedo.

As far as specs are concerned, the Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro comes with a 1.5-inch S-AMOLED curved display and it is running on the latest Tizen OS 3.0 that supports both Android and iOS devices. It includes a 200mAh battery and is also equipped with GPS.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro pre-orders will begin from Aug. 31 on Samsung’s official site, Amazon, Best Buy, B&H and Macy’s. It will be available with a pricing of $199 which is $20 more than the original model.

Samsung Gear IconX (2018) Wireless Earphones

The original Gear IconX earphones came with manifold features but it was criticized for its dismal battery life. The 2018 edition of Gear IconX has arrived to deliver improved battery life. Samsung claims that the Gear IconX (2018) will allow users to listen to music stored on the 4 GB internal storage for up to 6 hours.

It comes with a case that can be used as a charger and a battery power bank. It supports fast charging through its USB-C port. Samsung has removed the heart rate sensor feature on the Gear IconX (2018) probably to make space for a bigger battery. It is equipped with inbuilt coaching features and gives access to Bixby. Like the previous model, the new IconX allows users to playback music and control volume through gestures like swiping and tapping.

The pricing of the Gear IconX (2018) is not known yet. Samsung has not even revealed its release date. It will be coming in colors like Black, Gray and Pink.

The Galaxy Note 8 has been unveiled by Samsung. The South Korean company was also rumored to debut the Gear Fit 2 Pro fitness band at the Note 8 launch event. However, it was not unveiled. Samsung would be showcasing the Galaxy Note 8 at the IFA 2017 show. Speculations are rife that the Gear Fit 2 Pro will be also unveiled at the upcoming tech trade exhibition. It appears that the company may also debut a new smartwatch on Aug. 30

Soon after the unveiling of the Galaxy Note 8, the Gear Fit 2 Pro appeared on the Spanish and Malaysian edition of Samsung’s website. It appears that the fitness band had accidentally appeared on Samsung’s sites as there was no official announcement for it. The listings have been taken down, but the product pages had revealed plenty of information on the fitness band.

The Gear Fit 2 Pro seems to be a slight upgrade over the Gear Fit 2. As far as the design Fit 2 Pro, it appears very similar to the Gear Fit 2 as it also features a curved display. One of the USPs of the Gear Fit 2 Pro will be that it will be coming with 5 ATM support which means it can be used safely underwater up to a depth of 50 meters. This will allow users to track swimming related activities. It will be running on Tizen OS and will compatible with iOS and Android devices. And it will be packed with a 200mAh battery. In related news, Samsung has confirmed that it will be holding pre-IFA press conference on Aug. 30 in Berlin, Germany. DJ Koh, the president of Samsung Mobile has told CNBC that the company would be launching a new Gear S smartwatch. He has neither revealed its moniker nor any information on its specs and features. Speculations are rife that the device could be either arrive as Gear S3 Pro or Gear S4. It is likely that the aforementioned Gear Fit 2 Pro will be unveiled through the same press conference.

In related news, Samsung is also rumored to working on a new hybrid smartwatch that is expected to launch as Gear Sport. The device has already received FCC and Wi-Fi Alliance certification which suggests that it may debut soon. The Samsung Gear Sport could be the first smartwatch from the company to run on Tizen 3.0 OS.

Koh had said that, “If we can put in place properly a smartwatch that can monitor everything for your health and provide information, then the market will grow. Today’s sensor do not look like enough.” This suggests that the smartwatch is expected to launch on Aug. 30 will have some health-centric features. The Gear Sport is also rumored to be a hybrid of a smartwatch and a fitness tracker.

Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro has recently been certified by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the U.S. and the fitness tracker with model number SM-365 has also appeared on the official Samsung site in the past weekend. Now fresh images of the Gear Fit 2 Pro have appeared along with its features.

The Samsung Gear Fit 2 has a model number of SM-R360 and this new SM-R365 Gear Fit 2 Pro seems to be its upgraded version. The new Gear Fit 2 Pro appears a lot like the Gear Fit 2. Like the predecessor, the Gear Fit 2 Pro is running on Tizen OS. It will be compatible with iOS and Android O smartphones.

It features a curved display like the predecessor model. The curved display of the original Gear Fit 2 has some thick bezels at its top and bottom. However, the Gear Fit 2 Pro’s curved screen seems to cover the entire front glass. The appearance of the Gear Fit 2 Pro is not very different from its predecessor.

The Gear Fit 2 Pro will come with 5 ATM water resistance that will make it usable under the water for tracking swimming related activities. The predecessor model came with IP68 rating that did not allow users to submerge it under water for longer duration. It will be coming with inbuilt GPS and a watch-like clasp.

The FCC listing of the wearable fitness tracker had revealed that it would be coming with v4.2 LE Bluetooth and single band Wi-Fi b/g/n. The Speed On app can be used for syncing on Gear Fit 2 Pro.

The Gear Fit 2 Pro will also allow users to listen to offline music through Spotify. Customers who purchase the Gear Fit 2 Pro will get one-year subscription of Under Armour’s premium digital services.  The pricing of the Gear Fit 2 Pro is under the wraps.

Samsung is also rumored to be working on a smartwatch fitness tracker hybrid device called Gear Sport. Speculations have it that the Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear Sport will be unveiled at the upcoming IFA 2017 event that will run between Sept. 1 to 6 in Berlin, Germany. It is likely to be available for buying sometime in the next month. There is no confirmation on whether the Gear Fit 2 Pro will replace the Gear Fit 2 or sell alongside it.
