Late last week, the HUAWEI x GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear II (2) leaked in low quality renders. Today, at the HUAWEI MateBook X 2020 launch event, the company surprised everyone by unveiling it officially. No one expected it today as the first generation product and its refreshed designs debuted at P30 and P40 series events respectively. Hence, we expected it to launch alongside the Mate40 series.

HUAWEI x GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear II Specifications

The newly launched Huawei Eyewear 2 features the same technology as its predecessor. The only difference is that it sports a new design and comes with a redesigned carrying case.

The frame of these smart glasses is made of titanium alloy and has an opening and closing range of 12-degree. Whereas, the temple of the glasses features speakers with custom 128mm² diaphragm on either side to provide stereo sound effects. The company claims a maximum output of only 12dB so that only the wearer could listen to the audio.

The temple can be also used to control music playback, accept/decline calls, and access voice assistant via touch gestures just like the original Huawei Eyewear. Further, the charging case is now rectangular in size and the placement of USB Type-C port as well as the LED indicator has been moved to the centre.

Last but not least, it comes in the following four designs.

HUAWEI x GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear II Price and Availability

The Huawei Eyewear 2 will be available in China for pre-order starting September 1 and will go on sale from September 10 for the following prices.

There’s no word on international availability. But since the original Huawei Eyewear was available in some countries, this one may also debut in those regions.

At the HUAWEI P30 series launch event in Paris in early 2019, the Chinese telecom giant surprised everyone by unveiling HUAWEI Eyewear, a smart glasses in collaboration with South Korea’s popular fashion firm GENTLE MONSTER. Now, after more than a year later, the second generation of this product called HUAWEI Eyewear II leaks in renders.

The renders of Huawei Eyewear 2 (HUAWEI Eyewear II) were first shared by a blogger called 长安数码君 (Changan Digital King) on Weibo. Going by the pictures, the new model will be smaller and probably even lighter than the previous generation.

Another notable difference will be the shape of the carrying case (pouch) as well as the positioning of the USB Type-C port and LED indicators. That said, the details about the official launch and availability of this product are bleak.

Unlike Huawei smartphone and laptops, the HUAWEI x GENTLE MONSTER Eyewear was made available in limited quantities. The company fused technology and fashion with this product. 

Although they looked like traditional glasses, they came with speakers as well as microphones for calls and music. It was similar to BOSE Frames and different from Snapchat Spectacles, which features cameras.

Earlier this year at the HUAWEI P40 series launch event, the firm even introduced new models to the first generation product as part of the Spring and Summer 2020 collection. But none of them is available for purchase at the moment.

Huawei, the known electronics brand, is collaborating with Gentle Monster to bring a new pair of smart glasses. The announcement for the new wearables arrived during the flagship Huawei P40 series launch yesterday (26th March 2020) and should serve as a unique peripheral to the series as well.

The new pair of smart glasses with Gentle Monster marks the first major upgrade after the company launched a similar product last year. For those unaware, Huawei had previously collaborated with the sunglasses maker last year as well, with the announcement arriving during the launch of the P30 Pro. Gentle Monster is a known luxury brand from South Korea and had launched the GENTLE MONSTER X HUAWEI smartwatch alongside 2 sunglasses and 3 optical glasses in March 2019.

Now, the Spring and Summer 2020 collection for eyewear has been launched, with two new styles. The first is the Smart MY MA 01 and Smart HER 01, the former features round glasses while the latter has a large square share. The new smart glasses adopt the new FLATBA lens inlay technology with the new frame and edge lens fitting perfectly together in order to achieve a stylish look.

Apart from offering UV protection, the smartglasses also support taking and ending calls. They can play and pause music as well with dual speakers and a microphone which is assisted by an AI powered speech noise reduction technology. In other words, this makes it a worthy upgrade over the smart glass launched back in 2019. This might become a new annual tradition for Huawei, but we will have to wait another year to know for sure.

While unveiling the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro flagship smartphones in China earlier this year, tech giant Huawei had announced its first smart glasses in collaboration with well-known South Korean eyewear firm Gentle Monster.

At that time, the company had only revealed the features of the smart glasses and were expected to be available for purchase in June or July. A bit later than expected, the Gentle Monster Huawei Smart Glasses are now available for purchase in China.

The product comes in five models — Smart East Moon 01, Smart Jack Blue 01, Smart South Side 01, Smart Alio 01, and Smart Alio C1. While the South Side 01 model is priced at 1,999 Yuan, roughly $282, the other four models are priced at 2,499 Yuan which roughly converts to $353.

The company says that the Gentle Monster Huawei Smart Glasses are designed with the concept of minimal design and there are no physical buttons. The antenna, charging module, dual microphone, chipset, speaker and battery are integrated in the temple, and the frame and lens can be replaced by the user.

It features stereo speakers that are positioned above the ears and tapping on the temple activates the voice assistant. To answer a phone call, users need to simply tap on the temple of the eyewear. For improved call quality, the eyewear has built-in AI Bluetooth noise reduction technology.

The smart glasses comes with an IP67 certified dust-proof and water-resistant body. The eyewear can be charged through its USB-C port and can also be charged wirelessly by placing the glasses inside its leather case. With 2,200mAh battery, the company is promising 20 hours of stand-by time.

The images of each model show that Huawei has put a lot of emphasis on fashion. At the unveil event, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Yu Richard had claimed at the event that Huawei Gentle Monster smart glasses is the latest fusion of fashion and technology.

The Huawei x Gentle Monster smart glasses is a device allow users to talk on the paired smartphone without putting anything in the ears. It is more like a replacement for earbuds. The device does not feature a camera and there are no buttons on it. To answer a phone call, users need to simply tap on the temple of the eyewear.
